Welcome to Issue #25! For this issue, we dive into a joyful celebration of the world’s most incredible island destinations. From the most luxurious escapes in the Maldives to a round-up of private islands with over-thetop luxury, we are optimistic that if you have ever dreamt of living the castaway life, these addresses are bound to impress. Whether you’re looking for a reclusive escape, an indulgent experience or just barefoot luxury, turn to page 163. From thatched roofs to modern architectural designs, there truly is an island to suit everyone!

Elsewhere in the issue, we have all the tips and inspiration you’ll need to curate a classic wardrobe that transcends your destination. If you’re anything like me, after so many months spent at home due to the pandemic, packing is now feeling oddly foreign. Trying to recall my approach to airport dressing has been tough enough, let alone remembering how to pack for multi-destinations or even going from the city to the beach. We have enlisted tips from our favourite jetsetters to bring you the fashion trends and staples for every itinerary. It is a fine art to look stylish while getting on and off a plane, so whatever your plans, we have you covered. If you’ve ever wondered how to pack for a vacation like a beauty editor, we also have expert skincare and beauty tips that will keep your post-vacation glow.

For this issue, we have also travelled to Miami to meet our favourite event stylist and star of The Real Housewives of Miami, Guerdy Abraira. Born on the island of Haiti, Guerdy moved to Paris and is now based out of Miami and New York, which has expanded her palette of various global cultures. When asked “Where are you based?” her answer is “out of an aeroplane!” Turn to page 132 for more with the destination wedding planner and tune into the new series of RHOM for a behind-the-scenes look at her Retreat cover shoot!

Enjoy!

If you could jump on a plane tomorrow, where would you go?

I’ve been doing a lot of travelling lately, anywhere tropical is always top of the list, Seychelles looks INCREDIBLE and is next on the list, but I’m also heading to Hawaii in a few weeks!

Best island getaway?

Galápagos Islands with Retreat last month was honestly the best experience I’ve ever had—what a place.

Travel bag?

Camera gear, bathers, bathers and camera gear and of course all my skincare.

Vacation style?

If you could jump on a plane tomorrow, where would you go?

Aruba! I have been there 25+ times— my parents bought a little timeshare apartment before I was born, so we go every year. It’s my happy place.

Best island getaway?

I recently went to Oahu and Maui and loved it! But I’d like to go to Bora Bora and Maldives at some point.

Travel bag?

TRAVELPRO by far! It’s what many pilots use. Those bags literally can roll themselves!

Vacation style?

I love adventure! So any place I can assimilate with the culture. I love places with vibrant colours and unique streets, like Positano, Italy.

Hotel room routine?

Unpopular opinion—turn the heat UP, not down! I can only sleep if the rooms are warmer than 73F° (I am spoiled by the California weather!) I like to properly unpack and put the suitcase away and out of site so it feels like I’m temporarily living in the place I’m visiting!

Depends where; in NYC I felt the need to be as fashionable as I could be with stacked loafers and oversized blazers but anywhere tropical or beachy, I am comfort all the way, with loose dresses and sarongs!

If you could jump on a plane tomorrow, where would you go? To the Ukraine to assist in aid work.

Travel bag? Does an Ikea tote count?!

Vacation style?

Bohemian meets Hyacinth Bucket.

Hotel room routine?

A long, hot shower accompanied by my favourite Aura Cacia aromatherapy oils and Spanish guitar playing low in the background on Spotify.

If you could jump on a plane tomorrow, where would you go? I would go to Australia and be reunited with my No.1—my mother Catherine.

Best island getaway?

I have been to many, but my favourite would have to be the Island of Hawai’i, “The Big Island”—paradise like no other.

Vacation style?

I am a look kinda guy. So I pre-plan with a day-to-night aesthetic and something fun for a swim from my favourite designer Todd Sandfield.

Hotel room routine?

I roll with my sidekick Mama (my CEO of happiness pup), so we set her corner up for the duration, then unpack our outfits and then off we go.

If you could jump on a plane tomorrow, where would you go? I would go to Morocco. It is such a historic place, and the architecture looks beautiful.

Best island getaway?

Hawaii! You can see a lava lake, jagged coasts and jungle waterfalls all in one place. The people are also really kind and welcoming.

Vacation style?

It depends on who I’m with. Hiking or any outdoor activity is fun, but so is exploring pretty towns and going to museums.

Hotel room routine?

Getting to your room after a long day can be such a nice feeling. I usually walk in, drop off my stuff, shower and then get all cozy in bed.

If you could jump on a plane tomorrow, where would you go?

I would go to Bali! It’s one of my dream trips.

Best island getaway?

Santorini!

Travel bag?

My go-to travel bag is a tote that can carry the essentials like my sunglasses, headphones and SPF.

Vacation style?

I typically shoot for comfortable shoes with a flowy dress for long days of travel. Most of my vacations are near the beach, so I’m always layering my bikinis.

If you could jump on a plane tomorrow, where would you go?

I would head to an island off the coast of Greece!

Best island getaway?

The Dominican Republic is so beautiful and has the best food, beaches and people!

Vacation style?

I’m all for comfortable, easy and soft outfits on vacation! Right now I’m loving the ease and classic look of midi skirts and matching sets.

Hotel room routine?

As soon I get into a hotel room I like to unpack and organize everything to create a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

If you could jump on a plane tomorrow, where would you go?

I’ve been dreaming of going somewhere a bit left field like Istanbul and Cappadocia in Turkey. I’d also love to do something exotic like going on a safari in South Africa or Botswana.

Best island getaway?

The Maldives! It’s extraordinary.

Travel bag?

I’m practical; I always take a foldable backpack in my suitcase. I also take a small over-the-shoulder handbag for essentials when I want to look a bit nicer.

Vacation style?

Depends on where I go! I tend to go for practical but chic. Lots of layer-able items can be worn in different ways.

If you could jump on a plane tomorrow, where would you go?

For fun, Miami. I had the best time when I was there a couple of months ago. For relaxing, Hawaii. The beautiful beaches and warm waters are rejuvenating and healing. I love hiking and long walks on the beach. Whenever I return to Hawai’i, I always get reconnected with my local friends and they take me to places that no tourists go. Hidden caves and waterfalls— it’s the best. On my recent trip to the Hawaiian islands, I took a helicopter around the island of Kauai flying over a volcano and majestic waterfalls—it was breathtaking.

Best island getaway?

I was on Harbor Island with Elle Macpherson for a cover shoot and I fell in love with the island. Pink sand beaches. The people are warm and friendly. And I have never eaten so healthy in my life.

Travel bag?

If you could jump on a plane tomorrow, where would you go? South Korea! I enjoy the food and would love to visit a Korean spa someday.

Best island getaway?

I’d love to get away to an island in Japan at some point! It has so many interesting and beautiful places to visit!

Travel bag?

I’d have to say the Away Carry-On. The 360° wheels and charger ports are perfect for traversing any airport.

Vacation style?

I often try to keep my style cute but active, especially if my vacation involves a lot of walking or hiking. I love to dress up when I’m able to!

Whenever I prepare for a trip and I pull out my suitcases, my Frenchie pups, Mads and Gigi, think they’re coming too and jump into my case. It’s tough leaving them but my job requires me to travel at times. I am definitely an over-packer and I’ll pack like I’m leaving for three months, but once I get to my destination I usually only wear one to three outfits during the whole trip. I usually carry one huge Tumi suitcase and my Zuca backpack. It has my camera, laptop and all my in-flight essentials like EarPods, lip balm and my journal because I get my best ideas when I’m flying.

Vacation style?

I recently discovered a brand called Saint Perry. I like to stock up on comfortable and lightweight shirts for the evening and I’m in board shorts and flip-flops all day long.

Hotel room routine?

In Kauai, I stock my room up with water, unpack my suitcase and get into my swim trunks to hit the beach.

Hydration

CODEX BEAUTY LABS, Antu Refreshing Radiance Mist, $33

Staying hydrated is key to looking fresh. Drink lots of water and apply a hydrating face mist, a serum and hand cream. Then refresh each about every hour. Codex Beauty’s Antu Toning Radiance Mist invigorates tired, dehydrated skin in a relaxing veil of moisture to decrease the appearance of pores and freshen up throughout the flight by misting your face. I recommend keeping your makeup bare until landing, but it can be used over or under makeup. For extremely dry skin, a musthave is Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour® Cream Intensive Moisturizing Hand Treatment—I advise my clients to carry this on board with them to apply to their hands and even the elbows, which can get very dry and cracked.

Lips

Lips are always one of the first places to show signs of dehydration, so when you’re travelling long distances, packing a nourishing lip treatment in your carry-on will save you the pain of chapped, cracked lips when you arrive at your destination. Here are some amazing tinted lip balms that I highly recommend: DIOR Addict Lip Glow Oil (Model Ilona is wearing 015 Cherry), CLINIQUE Moisture Surge Pop Triple Lip Balm in Dragon Fruit (this multi-tasking balm hydrates, tints and adds shine) and Sara Happ’s Lip Slip.

DIOR, Addict Lip Glow Oil, $60

Concealer

DIOR, Backstage Face & Body Flash Perfector Concealer, $54

Falling asleep and waking up with raccoon eyes is never a good look. When you land, freshen up your makeup. It may be important to carry a concealer to cover any imperfections or discolouration and dark circles that you might have. I recommend DIOR Backstage Flash Perfector Concealer. This concealer is caffeine-infused and has a gorgeous natural glowing finish. It’s waterproof too, which is great if you’re stepping off into tropical humidity. Apply a couple of small dots and blend with your fingers. Perfect for spotting any skin imperfections, covering redness and dark spots, neutralising discolouration and lightening dark circles. Formulated with a clear base for no chalky undertones to remain virtually undetectable.

Eyes

GUCCI, Mascara Lobscur, $46

A way you can open up your eyes before putting any makeup on is using an eyelash curler. Then you can apply a few coats of black or brown mascara to wake up your eyes—but like I said, wait until you land to apply your makeup. Here are my recommendations for everything you need after your flight that will glam your eyes in minutes. Before landing, I recommend using a lash curler to apply mascara from root to tip and build with multiple coats until you reach your desired look. For best results, use with the Essential Lash Curler available at shoppilarbllac.com.

I love Too Faced Crystal Whips Shimmering Liquid Eye Shadow in Tap That. This shimmering, whipped eyeshadow formula, created with a unique blend of pigments and suspended multicolour pearls, can also be used to light up the face and lips for 12 hours of no-fuss wear. The lightweight, reflective sparkle goes on effortlessly for fool-proof appli cations and locks down with our innovative Lock & Seal Complex for a high-shine, dreamy glow that never feels sticky. Get ready to sparkle. Just swipe across your eyelids and blend. Top off with mascara and you’re ready to go!

Highlighter Skin

If you don’t need any full coverage face make-up, you can just apply Iconic London Radiance Booster in a warm shade like Bronze or Caramel Glow. This all-over liquid radiance leaves your skin prepped and perfected for makeup application and an ultra-dewy look. If you just want a sheer pop of colour on your cheeks, apply a liquid blush for a soft-focus, sheer, watercolour finish. Dab a few dots onto the apple of your cheeks and blend in with your fingers.

DIOR, Forever Couture Luminizer Highlighter, $90

Add some gleam and glow to your skin with Pat McGrath Labs Skin Fetish: Highlighter + Balm Duo, the iconic duo for ultimate illumination and runwayinspired radiance. On one side, the pearlescent Highlighter features a silky formulation that glides on effortlessly to impart a sheer, buildable hit of luminosity. On the opposite end, a transparent, gel-based Balm combines moisturising argan oils and hyaluronic acid to veil skin in dewy divinity. Use alone for a flash of lit-fromwithin. It doesn’t look overly sparkly or metallic; it just looks like gorgeous glowing skin. There isn’t a place on the body or the face that I don’t use this highlighter— dab a little bit on the arch of the brow, down the centre of the nose, into the cheekbones, along the jawline right above the bow of the lip and even onto the shoulders, the clavicle and the neck. It gives that instant charisma to the complexion.

If you love a highlighting powder, like I used on my model Ilona, try DIOR Forever Couture Luminizer in 02 Pink Glow, using my Troy Jensen Pro Artist Luxury Fan Brush to dust on for a spectacular iridescent finish that will boost your complexion’s radiance. I also recommend ICONIC London Prep-Set-Glow. This ingenious multitasking mist not only sets makeup but also refreshes skin, moisturises and contains light-reflecting particles that leave you with a gorgeous-looking glow. This mist contains extracts of cucumber and chamomile, as well as antioxidant vitamin E and caffeine. Refreshing and moisturising, the luscious fluid features subtle, lightreflecting particles that leave you with a gorgeous-looking gleam, whether you use it to prep skin for makeup, set a finished look or grant a stunning, glossy effect to a bare face. Use it before or after makeup, or all by itself for an enviably radiant, glossy finish. You’ll be disembarking your flight well-rested with a fresh-looking complexion and natural-looking makeup.

BEAUTY Sleeping

HOW TO OPTIMISE YOUR NIGHTTIME ROUTINE AND HABITS

Aside from getting in a few extra hours of sleep, which can seem impossible in our hectic lives, how else can we optimise our nighttime routine and habits to ensure healthy and glowing skin on waking each morning? We asked Dr Kate Jameson, founder and medical director of Youth Lab, Australia’s leading medical aesthetics clinic specialising in non-surgical aesthetics and skin rejuvenation, for an inside into the best way to master beauty sleep and how to wake feeling fresh and more youthful.

“Sleep is when our skin has the opportunity to recover and regenerate, after being exposed to the elements during the day such as pollutants, UV rays and occlusive makeup. Our cellular turnover increases, replenishing vital hormones and hyaluronic acid and boosting collagen synthesis. To put it simply, sleep is essential to maintain healthy skin, restore balance to the skin and aid in a glowing complexion.”

Read on for her tips for a glowing complexion!

HEALTH & BEAUTY

Develop a Skincare Routine

The first step in improving your nighttime beauty sleep is to develop a simple skincare routine that you know you will stick to. Start with a double cleanse with a calming and gentle cleanser to remove the debris of the day and ensure no makeup remains on the skin. Excess oils, pollutants and foundation can clog the pores leading to congestion, impaired barrier function and sensitivity.

Using your most active products at night can further aid in cellular renewal and skin rejuvenation while you sleep. Ideally, use high-potency retinol during nighttime to work its magic while you sleep. A firm favourite is Cosmedix Serum 16, which is not only retinol that targets the visible signs of ageing but also contains hydration to protect the skin’s moisture barrier and boost moisture without causing redness, dryness or irritation.

Using a luxurious and thicker night cream after the active serums can also work to provide a spa-like experience when you perform your nightly skincare routine, lock in key ingredients and moisturise while you rest, meaning you wake up refreshed with soft and supple skin. For those who love a luxury product and also want results, PCA Skin Hydraluxe Overnight Mask is a rich and luxurious night cream that works to reduce the appearance of fine lines and deeply hydrates overnight.

Silk works to provide a softer and gentler sleep by reducing irritation to the skin for those with sensitive skin that cotton or other fabrics can cause. In addition, silk does not absorb the precious skincare you have applied before bed, meaning the products work their benefits into the skin, not into the pillowcase. This in turn keeps your skin hydrated overnight as silk also does not absorb excess moisture from the skin like cotton does.

A silk pillowcase also has the benefits of not creasing, which in turn can stop those stubborn sleep creases from forming on your skin when you sleep on your side or front. Combine a silk pillowcase with sleeping on your back and these stubborn creases will never get the chance to form.

A silk pillowcase coupled with a luxury silk eye mask is the ultimate combination for improving your beauty sleep. Not only do you get the skincare benefits but the complete blackout from wearing an eye mask will improve melatonin levels and improve the quantity and quality of your sleep, which in turn, yes you guessed it, help you feel refreshed and rested in the morning. My favourite silk combinations are from the Australian company SLIP, which stocks a variety of beautiful colours.

The Magic of Silk

Investing in a silk pillowcase is a must for those seeking an improvement in their sleep and skin. These pillowcases feel and look luxurious and not only provide a comfortable slumber but also work to help your skin overnight.

A Nighttime Ritual

Rituals are important when establishing positive habits, and a nighttime ritual can set you up for a restful night’s sleep. When preparing for a good night’s sleep, doing anything that boosts the sleep hormone melatonin will pay off. Not only does this hormone aid in improving the quality of sleep, it is a potent antioxidant that can work to improve skin quality.

RETREATMAG.COM | 27

Ensuring no screen time or blue light from your mobile phone at least one hour before bed is essential, as well as avoiding any stimulation or stress. Blue light has been proven to disrupt our circadian rhythm and, in turn, will cause a disrupted sleep cycle. Reading a book, meditating or simply relaxing are all important pre-bedtime rituals and can replace the mindless scrolling on your smartphone.

Adding a beautiful pillow spritz such as lavender or having a warm shower with soothing essential oils can also prepare the body for sleep. A nighttime ritual is a private affair; no matter what you choose to do, these positive habits will result in better quality sleep, allowing more time for your skin to benefit overnight.

At Home LED

We all know the benefits of an LED treatment when used professionally. LED, especially red light, works to stimulate collagen production, promote skin health and works to energise the cells and prevent oxidative stress. There are now “athome” options of professional LED treatments, working as a portable mask you can use whenever or wherever you want.

Adding a home LED treatment to your nightly routine, or even as a weekly at-home spa treatment, will not only give you professional skin benefits at home but the red light can even help to improve sleep quality. A double win for the skin!

The Deesse Pro Express light therapy mask is the world leader in at-home LED technology. This mask uses two clinically proven wavelengths of light (630nm red and 830nm yellow) to target the signs of ageing, provide skin rejuvenation, increase blood flow and oxygenate the skin cells. It is safe, pain-free and only takes 10 minutes, so there is no reason not to incorporate this little luxury into your daily routine.

CateLi RETREATMAG.COM | 120 STYLE

Abusiness-savvy entrepreneur and successful Chinese-American plus-size model, Catie Li began her career after graduating UC Santa Barbara and moving to LA to pursue a career in public relations. Now, she resides in LA with her fiancé Carlos and creates fashion, beauty, fitness and lifestyle content for her dedicated followers on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. On these platforms, Catie shares her influential fashion and travel tips, while also creating styling videos that promote confidence and inclusivity of all body types.

Through her modelling career, Catie hopes to inspire body positivity and encourage women to feel confident in their own skin no matter their size or ethnicity. Her radiant message and talent have landed her partnerships with global brands such as Athleta, Amazon Fashion, Good American and Supergoop.

What inspired you to pursue modelling?

Modelling happened by chance! Growing up I was told I was pretty but too big to become a model. It wasn’t until my path crossed another plus-size model while buying her sofa off Craigslist that I found out I could even become a model.

Have any plus-size models inspired you?

So many of my peers inspire me! I think it is so important that we all support each other. Some to follow are Bri Martinez, Hunter Mcgrady, Kayla Jane, Kamie Crawford, Ashourina and more!

What is the message that you hope inspires others by your social media presence?

Don’t take no for an answer and embrace your most authentic self.

What have been the biggest milestones in your modelling career?

I was in September Vogue twice for a Kerastase campaign, on a Times Square billboard for Forever 21 and was featured

in Women’s Health Magazine just recently! Honestly, every opportunity I have had has been a blessing, as I could never imagine that this would be in the cards for me.

What has given you confidence?

My audience! That I could help one person is more than enough, but to be able to help more people through my platform is a dream.

What has been the most memorable milestone in your modelling career?

The most memorable was probably the same as my biggest milestones! It was such an unreal experience.

How has the bodypositive movement influenced you?

It has inspired me to make a stand and tell my story. No sugar coating on how it is being plus. Not every day is positive, but striving to find ways we can embrace and love ourselves is so important.

What is next for you?

The sky is the limit, but I hope to do more designing and inspiring!

The 30-year-old daughter of two retired NYPD officers of Puerto Rican descent says that a driving factor for her aspirations is to continue in the footsteps of her idols like Jennifer Lopez and Rosie Perez and to bring a rising presence in TV and film to the Latino community.

At a very young age, Danielle started in print work and secured her first major commercial at only four years of age. During the next few years, Danielle continued as a child actress doing more commercials, advertisements and plays. An important milestone in Danielle’s young career, at the age of nine years old, was landing the starring role of Young Nala in Lion King on Broadway (2001). After her run, she was cast in a role for a skit on Saturday Night Live with Jimmy Fallon (2002) and hosted a season of commercial breaks for the Women’s National Basketball Association (2003).

At fifteen years old she, along with her mother, moved to Los Angeles, California to further pursue her goals and aspirations as an actress. As she continued with more roles, she moved into television, guest starring in an episode of ER (2006). Her next role was in Without a Trace (2009).

After a monumental hiatus to be a mother to her young son Benson, complete her Cosmetology License as well as a B.S in Psychology, Danielle returned to television with a recurring role on Vida (2020), guest spots on NCIS, Home Economics and Good Trouble. A great achievement of hers is co-starring alongside Melissa Joan Hart in the hit Christmas movie Mistletoe in Montana (2021).

Danielle is currently taking on the role of Paulina Calderon on the Bosch spin-off Bosch: Legacy in a recurring role and most recently recurred in the final season of NBC’s hit drama This Is Us, shining as Mandy Moore’s nurse Laila, who helps her with her dementia diagnosis and aids the family through this tough time (May 2022).

What inspired you to pursue acting?

The acting bug bit me at the early age of four. I remember watching the movie Selena and wanting to be her! I would tell my mom I want to be on the TV, and I would ask her to watch me practice how I would act in the mirror lol!

As an advocate for women’s empowerment, what issues are most important to you?

I would say the underrepresentation of women in these bigger rooms. We are as educated, talented and competent as our male counterparts. Let’s be treated, supported and paid as such. Secondly, a lot of my focus is on the next generation of girls growing up. I want their self-esteem to be through the roof, to feel supported and to see from my generation they can be anything they want to be in their lifetime!

Do you have advice for aspiring Latino actors?

Yes! I promise you, if you can dream it, you can achieve it! Don’t give up! There is only one YOU—trust yourself! The industry is waiting to see you! Lastly, being proactive in your career is a huge part that sometimes gets overlooked by actors. This is what moves the ball in your court. So, think of it as tennis! You do your admin work, which includes updating your reel and headshots, learning how to make your self-tapes look better and of course updating and creating your website. Then, working on your craft by going to acting class, working and improving camera techniques and taking the time necessary to submit really good auditions. That is your serve! Then you let the industry throw the ball back, like with a callback or positive feedback from a CD or a booking. When the ball is in their court that is when it is important to let go and trust that THE BALL WILL COME BACK!

I love using Instagram. You will find a peek inside my life and updates on any projects I am doing. I love to engage with my followers and uplift them as much as I can. As my followers support me, I make it a point to remind them, “Hey, I am supporting you too!” I also just started TikTok, and I am having a fun time attempting these challenges ha-ha. Both sites are @daniellelarracuente

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

I would have to say, first and foremost, being a mom to my beautiful son, Benson. Second, regarding the acting realm, I would say returning to pursue my passion for acting. I took about six years off of acting and, after having my son, I decided to jump back in. I had to start from scratch and I worked hard at learning everything I needed to work in the business again. I pursued acting classes, camera work and spiritual work and everything came together because I have a really strong faith and belief in myself as an actor.

Do you have any role models?

Listen to your gut! That is truly your inner compass! I promise, even if you feel “ah, maybe I’m just overreacting”, in the end, your gut is never wrong. You will live a happier life by just listening to your gut the first time.

What is your dream role?

I am manifesting a few roles that are on my list of accomplishments! Being a part of the Marvel team, bad guy or good, I am open to it! A period piece would be so monumental for me, as it is an area of my field that I thought I could never do. Now, as people of colour are getting opportunities to do these period pieces, it opened my mind as to what I never thought possible, can be possible! Since doing Lifetime movie Mistletoe in Montana last year in Montana, I am looking forward to country music and Yellowstone. I am dying to be on that show!

What is next for you?

Some very exciting stuff! My goal in my career is to always take on characters that are different from each other and challenge my growth as a woman and actress! So, there soon will be a lot more of that! Stay tuned!

Yes! I have many great role models in my life. One for sure is my mom; she is one of the most inspiring, strongest women I know. She is a retired NYPD officer now turned civil rights attorney in LA and fighting the good fight. She reminds me daily through her actions to keep rising and never stop moving forward!

Even though both my parents were in law enforcement (NYPD police officers), playing one gave me so much gratitude for what police officers do every day. I learned it is really hard work, being a cop. Putting yourself in scary situations and having to protect and serve makes you understand what is important. Also, that uniform with the belt is no joke! It is super heavy, and mine wasn’t even the real weight of what officers wear out in the field.

How do you use social media to connect with your fans?
What is the best advice that you have received?
What have you learned from playing your most recent role as a rookie police officer, Paulina Calderon, in Bosch: Legacy?

Danielle Larracuente’sHoliday Rules

Favourite vacation spot?

My motherland is Puerto Rico! Being there feels to me like paradise, yet a sense of home. I run there any chance I get.

The best part of travel?

The best part of travel for me is learning the culture of my destination. I am a huge history buff and love incorporating their foods and style into my life.

Top hotel?

I love a good view! A hotel that has good customer service, a view, bed and a good shower—your girl is sold!

Favourite spa?

I love a good day spa! I am dying to check out a blue lagoon in Iceland! It’s a total dream!

Packing tips?

I am the biggest over-packer, so I always lay out all of my outfits, then make it a rule to put three to four back. Then I put everything in a travel bottle. You save so much room!

Airport style?

I love going in workout clothes or lounge sets. I have to be comfy and still want to look cute.

Go-to luggage?

I am an all-black kind of girl because then your luggage looks so sleek and stays the cleanest, especially from all the banging around when checking in your bags.

Beauty kit essentials?

I have sensitive skin and have bouts with eczema and acne, which gives me polar opposites in skin type. I have dry skin, yet can’t use serums because I will break out! I swear by CeraVe! I use their face wash and face lotion. It keeps my skin hydrated to help with eczema, yet doesn’t clog my pores.

What do you read?

I am currently reading Viola Davis’s new book. Her story is so inspiring! I am a huge fan of her as an actress and as a person.

In-flight rituals?

I find I get in some good meditations during flights. I guess you don’t have many distractions flying, so I can focus. I also always have activities for myself, books, music and downloads on Netflix.

Power is not something that happens by accident. It arises when unique individuals born with special talents learn how to use their blessed skills to create an idyllic role on this planet. It’s a gift to be a boss. But only a real power player knows how to take this “it” factor to a whole new level.

Guerdy Abraira is one of the golden tribe members who are fine artists of persuasion. The royal figure makes it rain gold all the time. If you are in her presence, you are not just sprinkled with a little bit of dust. You get the whole glitter disco ball when it spins. It just keeps revolving around and around from her phenomenal, captivating energy. Her pure soul makes no qualms about her status. Now that is the definition of true power.

“My mother told me, ‘You are a diamond. Don’t let anybody think that you’re anything worth less than a diamond.’ So, in my mind, I’m a diamond—not in a pretentious way, but just knowing my value and my worth,” reflects the titan tastemaker.

The Making of a Titan Tastemaker

Guerdy is synonymous with the sizzling qualities that help create trends for the beautiful jetsetters and tastemakers of the world. The Peacock breakout star of The Real Housewives of Miami is stunning to look at and even more gorgeous when you carry on a conversation with her. She simply has an undeniable credence you want to hear. Her roaring motto is deeply reflective of an appealing central strand of shifting American dialogue.

The event producer turned television star was already on the radar of many loyal fans for her work in the wedding planning industry. Now, the ultimate woman in charge is adding a whole new chapter to her ever-evolving persona. Her knowledge and skills are making her a leader of admirable note as she is viewed as a sensational source of industry knowledge. No one shines as bright as Guerdy and it is why she is the guiding light for those looking for the most perfect wedding in the world to those who want to learn from the master who is the epicenter of entertainment. She stands on the pedestal of success as she takes center stage in the masterclass of planning.

She is a guru to many who come to her for events as much as teachings. Guerdy’s popularity has only now soared after her appearance on the network’s original Housewives series, which made a strong debut in 2022 on Peacock with exclusive runs that re-air on Bravo. The fourth season of the hit franchise showcased the enchanting life of the mother living in a Florida lakeside home with two darling boys and her loyal husband of 20 years, Russell. Talk about a perfect perception of a dream life.

Overseeing a business that creates million-dollar fantasy parties for the wealthy of Miami and New York City all while dressing the part herself, the royal entrepreneur certainly appears to audiences in new RHOM episodes to be the stuff that absolutely fits right into

a land of chic elegance. All the elite women in the reality universe are eye-catching as they navigate their lavish daily lives in sun-soaked cities and glistening mansions. But it’s the dignified manner of the newbie on the series that is captivating due to the meaningful messages her presence carries on the primetime circuit.

“I don’t do basic. I do business,” proudly proclaims the CEO and Founder of Guerdy Design.

It’s her hallmark mission statement that is also a battle cry that makes her standout above all others. An ambassador for classy confidence, her essence comes from brilliant insight that didn’t just pop up overnight. Guerdy has been a work in progress for years and not having a silver spoon presented to her on a jewelencrusted platter makes her even more relatable.

“I’m not going to pretend I’m perfect or have a perfect life at all,” she says about the hard work she has done over the years to rise to the top of her industry. “It’s always challenging, always pivoting.”

A perfect party was simply always her thing. It made her mega famous and applauded in society circles around the globe. Booking her company has always meant you were buying her time and her style. A wedding produced under her always blossomed with her award-winning essence. Yet, it was also her fight to become a dynamic entrepreneur that made her strive even more to do things with top class actions.

Outspoken and energetic, she points out her Hattian heritage mixed with a Parisian hometown flare is the sparkling basis for her blazing work ethic. Growing up in a foreign country and moving to the states forced her not only to teach herself English but also how to learn to gain respect from her new peers. Her powerful cultural ties inspired her childhood as much as it still does the woman today.

“I realize that I am definitely not your average Jane Doe type of thing,” she says about shattering racial stereotypes. “I’m taking advantage of that because I really want to push the needle.”

America is watching Guerdy. The country is listening to what she has to say. A lot has changed in the ensuing decades of the Real Housewives, but the platform still creates a lot of buzz, especially when it comes to new groundbreaking characters. Guerdy openly discusses how her life has shifted from being the wedding planner to the stars to now being the in-demand brand ambassador for such products as INGILIZ, the popular handmade sustainable fashion shoe line.

A remarkable demonstration of hard work paying off, her career is well-regarded; she was even recognized in 2020 by Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue in 2021 as a top international wedding and event planner.

It took real confidence in herself as a leading entrepreneur and fashion figure to get her where she is today. The touchstone moment of her life right now is developing her into a titan. She is not just an influencer and certainly not another TikTok social media darling. Guerdy is an icon in the making.

I’m taking advantage of that because I really want to push the needle.

SMOKING OLD FASHIONED

Served at The Milestone Hotel and Residences The Stables Bar London, UK

Set in a Grade II-listed building, the bar’s signature cocktail, the Smoking Old Fashioned, follows the traditional New Orleans recipe, but rather than whisky straight from the bottle, it has been barrel-aged for 60 days in Canadian maple syrup and vodka. It’s then presented in a glass dome filled with shisha smoke, releasing hints of apple and orange when you lift the lid.

The Milestone uses their own Oleo Saccharum, an essential oil syrup made with orange peel, to give the cocktail an extra hint of citrus. The final step of creating this masterpiece involves the smoking. A glass dome is placed over the cocktail, which The Milestone places on a silver tray. The smoke gun is charged with wood chips coated in apple molasses, which creates a slightly sweet, fragrant smoke. When serving, lift the dome and allow the smoke to drift into the air, so that even before the first sip of the cocktail is taken, the senses are awakened.

INGREDIENTS:

1.5 oz whisky, rum or tequila

1 tsp Orange OleoSaccharum milestone bitters

1 Luxardo cocktail cherry for garnish

GLASSWARE: crystal tumbler

METHOD:

In a shaker glass, stir liquid ingredients together. Strain over an ice ball or large ice cube into a crystal tumbler. Garnish with Luxardo cherry.

To create smoke, smoke with wood chips coated with apple molasses per headnote.

TEQUILA SUNRISE

Served at The Arizona Biltmore Phoenix, Arizona, USA

It was circa late 1930s or early 1940s when a gentleman by the name of Gene Sulit came to work for The Arizona Biltmore, a resort that was then, and still is, considered Arizona’s Grand Dame and a playground for celebrities and the rich and famous. As the legend recalls, a loyal and long-time repeat guest had returned to The Arizona Biltmore for vacation to soak up the desert sunshine. Having met Gene on prior visits, the guest told Gene he loved tequila, but was looking for a refreshing beverage to enjoy poolside, and asked Gene to surprise him. And surprise him Gene did. By blending soda and tequila with Crème de Cassis and fresh lime juice, Gene created the foundation for what was to become an iconic cocktail made famous in songs, movies and American pop culture.

INGREDIENTS:

1.25 oz premium Blanco tequila

.75 oz Crème de Cassis soda water fresh lime lime wheel

GLASSWARE: glass of choice

METHOD: Fill chilled glass with cracked ice. Add tequila, Crème de Cassis and a squeeze of lime. Top with soda. Garnish with lime wheel.

PRICKLY PEAR MARGARITA

Served at Amangiri Canyon Point, USA

Prickly pear is the fruit of the cactus plant and has been relied upon by the Native American tribes for centuries because of its medicinal characteristics. Research shows that the fruit has immune-boosting effects, a rich supply of antioxidants and compounds that help protect skin health and ward off free radical damage and inflammation.

INGREDIENTS:

1.5 oz Milagro silver tequila

.5 oz Cointreau 3 oz sour mix 1 oz prickly pear puree

GLASSWARE: Rocks glass

METHOD:

Rim a rocks glass with pink sea salt after wetting with lime. Combine all ingredients in a shaker. Shake vigorously. Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with a lime wheel.

ACLER

shopacler.com

When co-designers Kathryn Forth and Julia Ritorto first met to conceptualise Acler, their common goal was to rebel against cookie-cutter digital design and bring the design process back to its fundamentally tactile roots. Each Acler piece is developed over a process of 12 months and is subtly redrafted, and redraped along the way, allowing the design to take on its form naturally. The end result is a meticulously constructed piece, which has an organic sculptural shape and an ultimately refined minimalism.

Do you have any tips on how to travel eco-consciously?

Walking or biking over car or bus tours is a memorable and adventurous way to sightsee while being eco-friendly to the environment you’re visiting! Travelling with a reusable water bottle and utensils is a great way to avoid all of the plastic in airports.

How has travel inspired you to work alongside 4ocean?

The oceans make up the majority of our earth. Personally, it is a place I find to be powerful, full of healing energy, cleansing, calming and full of beautiful creatures. Simply from gazing out at sea, I feel a sense of ease and relief immediately. But as breathtaking as our oceans may be, there have been tons of trash poured into them. When I learned how the people behind 4ocean were making it their mission to undo the constant pollution that has been going on for years and taking action to clean up the oceans while saving the ocean life being affected by it, I had to get involved. Stopping to pick up trash on the sand or that has floated into the water, or throwing out or recycling your things while cleaning up from your time at the beach are the first baby steps to creating a cleaner beach and oceans!

Favourite vacation spot?

This is hard to choose! I love St Thomas as I have family there and explore the island the local way! I stay with my aunt whenever I visit and love exploring all of the island’s hidden spots from beaches to restaurants and shops. But lately I have visited Hawaii a couple of times and love the nature trails through the mountains, the waterfalls, botanical gardens, shaved ice, food trucks, beaches and the lookout points. I guess I love to vacation to islands that allow you to feel free out in the middle of the sea and allow you to ground and connect with nature all around!

Where do you stay?

Whenever I travel, my stays vary. I travel just about every week for work and fit in a vacation getaway when I can at least once a year! I have stayed everywhere from rental homes to five-star hotels, beach

shacks, all-inclusive resorts, small local hotels and high-altitude mountain homes just to name a few!

Favourite restaurant?

I love Cafe Habana in Malibu. As soon as we wrapped shooting this cover story, I celebrated with dinner there. My friends know that if they are with me for a day in Malibu, that is the go-to spot!

Best spa?

AIRE Ancient Baths in New York is truly an experience. When you step into the spa, you forget you’re in a big city. I recommend spending an hour experiencing all of the baths, from the cold plunges to the heated salt baths, followed by a massage.

Where do you shop and what do you bring home?

My mom always told me to shop at places I can’t shop at when you’re home! I love this tip because it allows you to explore and shop locally and find tangible memories to take with you or gift to someone you love. I love finding and buying locally made jewellery and shopping at local boutiques. Finding timeless pieces of clothing is my favourite.

Airport style?

Comfy Chic is my go-to. Whenever I travel, I like to be comfortable but put together. A lot of the time when I deplane I am grabbing my luggage, getting in a car and heading straight to set. An example of a typical travel outfit for me would be a pair of EB denim loose cargo pants paired with a white tee, faux

leather jacket, white sneakers and a ball cap. I always keep a sweatshirt rolled up in my carry-on to use as a little headrest or to wear to keep me cozy and warm if the plane is cold!

Beauty kit essentials?

A creamy blush that can be used on the cheeks and lips! My favourite is by Charlotte Tilbury in the colour pillow talk. For skin care, rosehip oil is my go-to face oil that I apply every morning and night, and then I sculpt my face with a jade Gua Sha. Finally, I use something in my hair called a sleepy tie. This is my hack to wake up with perfect hair.

What do you read?

I spend a lot of my time journalling. I carry a journal with me everywhere I go. I am always writing out my thoughts, my manifestations, what I did in the day and how I felt. I love dating each page and going back on my journal entries to see how I have grown out of certain feelings, how I might have overcome certain hard situations I was struggling with at the time and which goals came to fruition.

In-flight rituals?

Drinking water, listening to rain sounds in my headphones and journalling (when I’m not sleeping). If I have a long flight, I stay up the night before to sleep the flight away and wake up refreshed to wherever I am headed!

Top hotel?

Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Resort in St Lucia is a very memorable, scenic, breathtaking place between two mountains and surrounded by the ocean!
