Hey there, I’m Troy Jensen, the beauty editor at Retreat, and I am so excited to share with you how I created Josie Canseco’s Brigitte Bardotinspired glam look for our latest cover shoot.

First and foremost, I wanted to achieve that iconic fresh and dewy skin that Bardot was known for. So, I started by applying Codex Labs Bia facial oil and serum from the Antu’ collection onto Josie’s face, neck, and body. This gave her that perfectly hydrated, luminous base that I was after.

Next, I reached for my go-to Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Contour Concealer to brighten up any areas that needed a little extra attention. But Josie’s gorgeous skin didn’t need any foundation, so I kept things light and natural.

To give her that warm, sunkissed look, I used Gucci Beauty’s Blush De Beauté in 04 on her cheeks. It’s the perfect shade for adding just the right amount of colour without looking too heavy or overdone.

For the classic Bardot eye, I used Gucci Beauty’s 03 Chocolat, Stylo Contour des Yeux Eyeliner to line Josie’s eyes, and then lightly blended it out with my Troy Jensen Pro Artist E10 Dense Shading Brush. I added a touch of shimmery pink eyeshadow in shade 12 Delicate Blush (Light Pink) from the Gucci Beauty Eye Palette Beauté Des Yeux Gorgeous Flora to create that perfect sultry, smoky eye. I finished off the eye look with a few coats of Gucci’s Mascara L’Obscur -in Eve Black for that full, voluminous lash effect.

Finally, for that sexy, pouty lip, I used Gucci Beauty’s Natural Beige 01 Crayon Contour des Lèvres Lip Liner Pencil and paired it with the perfect Bardot lipstick shade, Gucci 112 Sally Soft Honey Rouge De Beauté Brillant.

To keep Josie’s skin looking fresh and dewy throughout the shoot, I sprayed her with Codex Beauty Antu Refreshing Radiance Mist.

And there you have it, Josie Canseco’s Brigitte Bardot-inspired glam look, brought to you by yours truly.

Barb Paldus, the founder of Codex Beauty Labs, explains that the skin microbiome comprises countless tiny organisms, primarily bacteria, that inhabit different layers of our skin. This collection of microorganisms, also known

the gut microbiome, as many of the same microorganisms reside in both areas. However, researchers are still studying this relationship and its implications.

Barb Paldus has a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford and has been a serial entrepreneur for over 20 years. By the age of 34, she co-founded two Silicon Valley companies (Picarro and Finesse Solutions each of which has now reached over 100m in revenue) that, among many breakthroughs, helped pave the way for carbon cycle measurements, food integrity testing, gas pipeline leaks, accessible vaccines, personalized medicine and cell therapy. Many of the COVID-19 vaccines today are being manufactured in the equipment the Barb helped design.

What are your travel essentials?

I always travel with the Bia Cleansing oil to remove makeup and clean my skin. Additionally, I bring the Antu Serum, Antu Night Cream, and Bia Facial oil to treat dryness and irritation, as well of water the day before and wash my face at home before going to the airport. I apply serum, night cream, and facial oil at home to lock in as much hydration as possible, and then reapply as carry a pocket-sized Bia Skin superfood.

My skin gets dry and irritated when I travel. What would you recommend?

I always recommend using the Antu Serum, Antu Night Cream, and Bia Facial oil to treat dryness and irritation and help rehydrate the skin.

What products are best for beach vacations?

SPF 50 (I love Anthelios by LaRoche Posay) and the Antu Serum, Moisturizer, and Night cream is the best products for beach vacations. These allow for a great layer below mandatory SPF and recovery post-beach at night. I would also add Bia Superfood Facial oil for the occasional sunburn spot (like feet wearing strappy sandals).

Do any of Codex Labs’ products treat sunburn?

The Antu serum and moisturizer help treat sunburn if applied immediately after exposure. The serum especially helps cool the skin, rehydrate, and help recover from redness. The moisturizer

It’s recommended to start using skin barrier-supporting products that reduce oxidative stress after the age of 30-35 (depending on your level of stress and sun exposure). This is because your skin needs additional antioxidants to prevent future collagen to delay more invasive procedures.

What is the proper order to apply skincare?

The proper order of application is double cleanse (remove makeup then wash), serum, moisturizer, oil, SPF, and makeup.

Josie Canseco, daughter of former Major League Baseball player Jose Canseco and former model Jessica Canseco, is making a name for herself in the fashion industry. Here, Josie reveals her favourite luxury hotels, packing hacks, must-have beauty products, and fashion lessons learned while on the road. How do you balance comfort and style when travelling for work?

I don’t think it needs to be a choice! comfort and style are now the DNA and backbone of so many of my favourite designers and labels. I do love a sweatsuit when I’m commuting. But depending on the city I’m going to, I’ll try be.

What are your favourite luxury hotels or resorts and what makes them stand out to you?

There are so many great hotels. I love modern but cozy places. A place that could feel like home.

How do you maintain your beauty routine while travelling for modelling assignments?

Self-care is extremely therapeutic and important so it’s never to follow through with my routine.

What’s your favourite packing hack that helps you stay

go through exactly what I need and even try things on before making sure it is coordinated with the weather and that I have everything I need.

What’s the most important fashion lesson you’ve learned from travelling for work? Be comfortable!

My go-to is either a sweatsuit with sneakers or leggings, a big peacoat, a hat and sneakers.

What are some must-have items you always pack for modelling assignments?

Nude bras and underwear, a razor, good hair and skin products, face masks, and a good book.

What are your tips for maintaining healthy skin while traveling frequently for work?

Hydration! Drinking plenty of water, eating as clean as possible, and making sure to never cut corners on your skincare routine. Often, I’ll even add a heavier serum before bed.

How do you stay active and energized while on the road for modelling assignments?

adventure for work so that naturally keeps me pretty uplifted and excited. If I want to exercise on the road I’ll do some simple workouts wherever I’m staying or go for a run.

How do you balance work and life?

Well if you get lucky enough to really love what you do, work and life all meshes into one. My life revolves around my work, and I love to have a structure and schedule every day to better that work. When it comes to my social life, I can count my closest friends on one hand. Those are the friendships I take time to nurture and maintain, other than that I like to be home with my dog Ron.

What’s your favourite destination for shopping while travelling?

I’m honestly not a huge shopper when I travel, but I’d have all within a few blocks in Soho and they have such a diverse collection of shops. From vintage boutique stores

I’ve been dying to visit Kyoto, Japan for a few years now. It looks like one of the most beautiful places on earth and I hope this year it works out to visit!

Meet the blonde bombshell from Atlanta, Georgia, Taylor Bisciotti! Taylor’s passion

between her brothers and cousins, football was the universal language of her closeknit family. With Sundays dedicated to watching games, it’s no surprise that Taylor pursued her dream career as a Sideline Reporter for the SEC Network and ESPN, and then as a Host for Sporting News.

But that’s not all - with her shining all-star talent, Taylor caught the eye of the NFL Network, who quickly recruited her as an Anchor/Reporter, making her not only a rare breed as a female leader in sports, but also the youngest on-air talent the NFL Network has ever hired. With her on-screen success, Taylor is paving the way to shut down the stigma of the male-dominated sport that females, fashion, and football don’t mix.

Now residing in the entertainment hub of Los Angeles, Taylor is tackling all sides of the industry as a fashionista and football fanatic. Her playbook is chock-full of formations between players and fans that stem from them.

In addition to promoting women’s empowerment, Taylor is also an advocate for healthy living, regularly showcasing her own love of hiking and healthy baking on her social media. And let’s not forget, this girl knows how to have fun - she preaches a balanced lifestyle and indulges in her guilty pleasure from time to time with a vanilla ice-cream cone from McDonald’s.

What inspired you to pursue a career in the sports this decision?

Oh gosh, you know how they say no two paths me! I was an accounting major (yes, I don’t even month of college before deciding on one of the to myself “why am I doing this?! I don’t even like accounting” In that class in April, I applied to every news. The 11 pm newscast. I knew I didn’t want to get myself in the door, I can try and immerse myself in the sports department as much as possible so that’s what I did. At the end of the internship, my parents said if you really want to do this you need to go back to school for broadcast journalism. Luckily, UGA has the most incredible journalism school so I started working for ESPNU campus connection network job after college.

I knew I loved sports---I grew up a die-hard football fan. Both NFL and College football. I went to an SEC school so every weekend consisted of college football on Saturdays and NFL football on Sundays. As a female leader in the male-dominated sports industry, what challenges have you faced, and how have you overcome them?

I grew up with an older brother so I have always been comfortable being around a lot of guys. I think any industry presents its challenges and you learn how to navigate them and most importantly, you learn what you let affect you. I learned pretty quickly to not care about things I can’t control. I work my hardest and come as prepared as possible because those are the things I CAN control.

How do you balance your love for fashion and entertainment with your passion for football and sports reporting?

There’s such a natural crossover between the two. For example, Travis Kelce just did an incredible job hosting SNL, players have fashion lines now, coming off the buses for gamedays. Look, fashion is a way to express yourself and get creative. I love to see the players leaning into that space. What advice would you give to young women who aspire to pursue a career in the sports industry?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Be prepared for a lot of rejection but don’t allow it to discourage you, use it as motivation to work harder and get better. “It doesn’t matter how many “no’s” preceded it, all you need is one “yes” to make your dreams come true”

In what ways do you use your platform to promote women’s empowerment and eliminate the stigma that women and football don’t mix?

There were so many women before me who paved the way and made it so it wasn’t abnormal to see a female host and reporter covering sports. I give them the credit for being pioneers and paving the way to make it possible for me to be in the position I am in today. Now, it’s up to ways to continue the growth because there is still progress to be made. I think the best way we can do that is by empowering one another. We need to stop thinking of other females in the business as competition and start outwardly supporting each other more. I love that we are starting to see more and more of that. There is room for all of us. When very competitive amongst females. You often feel like you’re pitted against each other. Now, you are starting to see more support from one another. I want to be someone that younger girls can come to for advice. I want to be an advocate and an ally for other females in the industry. We shouldn’t be each other’s competition — we should be outwardly supporting one another. I want to show that you can be successful while supporting and empowering one another. A win for one female is a win for all of us.

You are also an advocate for healthy living. How do you prioritize your health and well-being, and how do you encourage others to do the same?

Walking, eating clean (except for my enormous sweet tooth), and phone breaks. I always say the best part about living in LA is being close o the water. Nothing clears my head more than a long walk on the beach.

Can you share a particular moment in your career that was especially memorable or impactful for you?

was huge but there’s been a lot of “monumental steps” throughout. I got my own show about 2.5 years into working at NFL Network, “ICYMI all 32”, I could name several “moments” that stand out to me. Sometimes this business feels like you move one step forward and then two steps back but I think that’s what keeps you driven and working hard. I never feel “comfortable” or “complacent” I always feel like I’m working towards more goals.

How do you stay motivated and continue to grow

When you love what you do, I think you become obsessed with the challenge of getting better, ways to deliver content to your viewers. I always want to be one percent better than I was the day before.

Can you talk about your experience as the youngest on-air talent the NFL Network has ever hired and how it has impacted your career?

I’m no longer the youngest, I’ve been here for 7 years now but when it happened and still to this day I’m just so beyond grateful and appreciative of the opportunity. I don’t take it lightly. It’s taught me so many lessons. How to be creative and provide value. When I came in, I couldn’t compete with the incredible reporters and hosts who have 15 years of experience with me so I had to get creative and was really how I initially found my niche and way of making an impact.

What are your future goals and aspirations, both in your career and personal life?

Who knows! I’d love to continue growing in my career into bigger roles but also want to make it a priority to be content with where I am on the

With a mixed cultural background of half French and half Moroccan, Ines Tazi has always had a unique perspective on the different inequalities women face. At just 15 years old, she embarked on her

But Ines is more than just an actress. She is also a shows already under her belt. Her latest venture, Perfect Match, is set to air globally on Valentine’s Day 2023. Ines is a woman of many passions, from fashion and beauty to soccer and boxing. She is also a beauty-tech entrepreneur, an accredited facialist, and a jewellery designer.

Ines believes that women can wear many hats and a powerful advocate for breaking down traditional stereotypes and empowering women to pursue to expand her acting skills and engage more deeply with content creation.

What inspired you to pursue a career in activism and social work, particularly with single mothers in Morocco, at such a young age?

I try to combine all these passions and interests together as much as I can. I believe that everything is interconnected and that ultimately to create a change, action is often triggered by emotions rather than intellect. This is why working in mass media, and fashion but being political makes complete sense to me. It is not easy to navigate but having a higher purpose allows me to create that balance between those different universes. Ultimately I prioritise taking time to reconnect with the physical world and the present moment which to me, is the source of all my creativity and energy.

perspectives on feminism and activism, and how do you incorporate these perspectives into your work as a content creator and TV personality?

Having a mixed cultural background has allowed me to challenge the norms of my education. I have learnt early on that not everything is set in stone, and a lot of things are socially constructed. I have been pushed to be critical and to think critically about my own country, my own position in society and the place of women in society. I am a proud intersectional feminist who has the privilege to work alongside like-minded individuals through the organisation

and my passion for human rights on a digital platform is not easy and sensitive. It’s tough, but there are ways to make it work. I use articles, speaking engagements, and even humour and fashion to share my views with the world. I strive sexy, or serious.

Can you tell us more about your business Skulpt and how it aligns with your personal values and passions?

Skult’s launch was delayed due to unforeseen circumstances and we are now working on the last details. As such, I can’t reveal too much but Skult is my baby and a passion project which was born out of my love for beauty and self-care. My skin drastically changed after I moved to London and I then started to question my own self-care routine and rethink how I took care of my skin. Drawing inspiration from my Moroccan upbringing and a trip to Japan, where

As someone who is passionate about fashion and beauty, how do you think these industries can play a role in promoting environmental, social, and cultural issues?

The fashion and beauty industries have a core role to play here without a doubt! These industries undeniably have an impact on the environment as well as social implications. Corporations and individuals have to take responsibility to promote positive and sustainable change. I think that there is work to be done on transparency and supply chain accountability and I really value the brand that makes that effort. I also believe that there is a cultural challenge that we sometimes overlook, about putting more appreciation into what we consume. Vivienne Westwood summarised it perfectly very well ‘ Buy less, choose well, make it last’.

Your social media presence is known for its bold and creative content. How do you approach content creation and what are your goals for the messages you share with your audience?

I believe in using humour to provoke constructive thought and inspire my audience. I aim to create content that is bold, creative, and cheeky, yet impactful. I want to ensure that my social media content retains a human aspect, making it relatable and enjoyable for my audience. I view myself as the creative director of my social media platform, constantly asking myself how I can push myself out of my comfort zone while maintaining a sense of intimacy with my followers. My goal is to create content that adds value to my audience’s lives, inspires them, and uplifts them. I strive to strike a balance between being informative and entertaining, while also staying true to my personal brand. I draw inspiration from everything and everyone around me, and while there are moments where I feel like I may be pushing the envelope too far, stepping out of my comfort zone is something that I am getting better at because I know that I have learnt so much by doing so and that it can push people to try new things.

It is not every day that you get to date never thought my dating life would be so relatable and made me known to the American public which has been important for me and allowed me to meet so many incredible people since the show. But mostly to show that you can have a ‘main character energy’ by being yourself, a nuanced, proudly vulnerable person. Especially in the entertainment/ Reality TV industry, which can be pretty homogenous at times. I’m all about bringing a fresh perspective to the table and showing that there’s more than one way to do things.

What challenges have you faced as a woman with a mixed cultural background in your career, and how have you overcome them?

By owning my unique background and perspective, I have been able to overcome these challenges and carve out a successful career path for myself. I am not ashamed of celebrating what I consider my own little successes and who I am anymore.

Looking to the future, what are your plans for your personal and professional development, and what impact do you hope to make in the world?

From a young age, I’ve had the privilege of exploring different parts of the world and experiencing different cultures. My multicultural background has made me naturally curious about the world around me and eager to and for work, and I’ve come to realise that I’m quite comfortable with solitude. Travelling solo has taught me a lot about myself and given me a sense of independence that I wouldn’t have developed otherwise.

What are some of your favourite travel destinations?

When it comes to travel destinations, I have to say that the French and time again to places like Vendee and Iles de Ré, where I can soak in the serene atmosphere and take in the stunning scenery. And let’s not forget about the mouth-watering oysters! But what really draws me in is the opportunity to disconnect from the digital world and connect more deeply with myself and my loved ones. It’s something I crave at least once a year. As for my all-time favourite travel destination, it has to be Morocco. From the food to the diverse landscapes, the vibrant cities to the mystical south, there’s just so much to explore and discover. I may have grown up there, but there’s always something new to see and experience. Whether I’m wandering through the vibrant streets of Marrakech or looking at the eternal beauty of Akchour, I always feel at home yet simultaneously excited to discover more of the country’s cultural riches.

Why do you think travel is important?

Travelling helps me grow by allowing me to learn about myself. It’s also the opportunity to see the world’s paradoxes. Every place has its unique blend of contradictions and surprises, and it’s these paradoxes that make each destination so fascinating to me. Whether it’s the bustling energy of a city that coexists with pockets of serenity, or the ancient traditions that persist alongside modern innovations. I believe that travel is a transformative experience that opens our eyes to new perspectives, challenges our assumptions, and expands our horizons.

How do you share your travel experiences with your audience?

I live for those secret travel gems that nobody talks about. My social media feeds are my holy grail of travel inspiration, and I strive to be that kind of source for others. I keep it real and share my honest thoughts and opinions, even if it means admitting that I didn’t quite “get” the appeal of a particular spot. I also make an effort to showcase local creators and cultural traditions. I always keep in mind what I would want to see on someone else’s feed while trying to share my travel journey. I usually do place and the little details that bring me daily small pleasures (which often involve coffee or olive oil!).

4-6 oz tonic water

1 lime wedge

Ice cubes

Fresh mint or cucumber (optional)

Fill a highball glass with ice cubes. Pour the gin over the ice.

BAILEYS DREAMY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE

200ml Baileys Original Irish Cream

2 medium eggs, separated

150g dark chocolate, chopped

1tsp unsalted butter

250ml double cream

White, milk and dark chocolate chips and shavings

Chocolate wafer sticks to decorate

Melt the chocolate, allow to cool slightly then beat in the egg yolks and butter.

Lightly whip the cream and Baileys. Then fold half into the chocolate.

Whisk the egg whites until just stiff, now fold with the chocolate mixture.

Spoon half the chocolate mousse into 4 glasses, followed by the chocolate chips and then half the cream.

Repeat the layers and top with the remaining chocolate chips and wafer sticks.

Leave to set for at least 3 hours.

Sammy Jaye, a New York City native, discovered her love for journalism early on while writing for her school newspaper in 7th grade. A chance interview with actor and musician Jordan Fisher landed her an opportunity to work with Radio Disney, and at just 17, Sammy became the youngest person to host her own podcast on iHeartRadio with “Let’s Be Real.” Now 19 and recently named to PopSugar’s 20-under-20 list, Sammy’s upcoming fourth season will feature interviews with Hollywood’s top talent, covering topics from pop culture to mental health and politics. When not hosting her podcast, Sammy enjoys practising yoga, hiking, and tap dancing. Passionate about mental health and political activism, Sammy has worked with the Child Mind Institute and Rock the Vote.

At 17, you launched “Let’s Be Real” making her the youngest person to host her podcast on iHeartRadio. Tell us about what inspired you to host a podcast. When I was a sophomore in High School my anxiety became really crippling and I started listening to podcasts as a distraction from my anxiety. I found that I couldn’t relate to the content out there. I just wanted to hear real and down-to-earth conversations about life from people that I looked up to in the public eye. So, I came up with the idea for “Let’s Be Real”, which is about having with celebrities, activists, athletes and be a positive distraction for people to hopefully feel less alone.

You are about to start on her 4th season of “Let’s Be Real” and are interviewing some of Hollywood’s top-tier talent including Jessica Alba, Madison Beer, Kesha, Liza Koshy, Justin Baldoni, Meghan Trainor, Lindsey Stirling, Rachel Platten, Dixie D’Amelio and many more. What can listeners look forward to this season? We just wrapped Season 4 and it was amazing!! Coming out of Covid, I got to in a couple of years and that alone made it super special. Because we all have been through so much in the past couple of years, my guests had a lot they wanted to talk about, as well as all the stuff they are looking forward to doing! We got a chance to talk about it all!

Season 4 has been a ton of fun for repeat guest. I’ve interviewed her 4-5 times now at various places so it was wonderful to catch up. Having Ashe on my podcast was also a highlight because I felt like I was connecting with someone I had known for years!

Your big break came after talking with a family friend who worked at iHeart, and they convinced you to do an interview. After that, you were introduced to the head of Radio Disney and began working with them shortly after. Tell us about this experience.

I started writing for my school newspaper in the 7th grade and found out that I loved interviewing people and hearing their stories! Soon after, when I was 13 years old, I got an amazing opportunity with iHeart to interview celebrities from a

For me, research is really important. I’ve learned over and over that if you truly listen to what your guest is saying and the meaning behind their words, the conversation can go to amazing places.

When not hosting your podcast, you practice yoga and enjoy hiking and tap dancing. How do you strive to achieve balance in all that you do?

To be honest, balance is something I’m hobbies like tap dancing because it’s been a great way to explore new activities, I never thought I would do. similar interests to mine.

I think it’s essential to speak out about what is important to you. Anxiety is something I deal with so it’s very personal for me. Mental health has become such for my generation and I want to help normalize the conversation so people don’t feel alone. In this crazy world that we live in, and in social media where everyone posts their ‘perfect’ world, it’s so easy to get down on yourself. I want people to feel positive and believe that life can be an amazing journey…and that we all have similar struggles.
