The Family Y is one of twenty social service programs supported by the United Way. The Family Y receives support for out of school time activities for youth. This includes School Age Child Care, Day Camp, Kid’s Days Off, Youth Sports and Swim Lessons

Bank Draft Information

Money is pulled from your checking account or credit card at 12:01 a.m. on the 10th of the month. Credit card bank draft members: If you have moved or your credit card has been compromised, let the business office know so that your card is not declined on the 10th of the month and to avoid service fees.

LOCKER & TOWEL SERVICE

For your convenience, a limited number of tall and kit lockers are available to rent on an annual basis. No more lugging your shoes, racquet, toiletries and towels. Kit and tall lockers as well as towel service available for a nominal fee. Adult Locker Rooms - only available to paying college or adult membership 18+yrs & out of high school. 16-18 year-olds may use adult locker rooms if they are accompanied by a parent.

Fifth and Seventh graders living in Freeborn County receive free memberships. This is sponsored locally. Stop in to fill out a membership card! Refund Policy The Albert Lea Family Y reserves the right to cancel programs due to low enrollment. Full refunds are given when this occurs. Persons withdrawing registrations must give 72 hours notice before the program starts to receive a full refund. No refunds are made after the 72-hours prior to the start of an activity unless due to medical or unavoidable circumstances.

Adult Sports/Senior Fitness Racquetball/Wallyball Courts

Courts can be reserved up to 24 hours in advance. Non-members must pay the daily admission fee to play.

Adult Pick-Up Pickleball

Pickleball equipment is available at the front desk for checkout. Two courts are also marked in the gym. Pick up games take place at various times. Common times of play are Mon, Wed, & Fri - 8:30-10:00 am

Pick-Up Soccer for All Ages

Open soccer for all ages will be Wednesday nights from 6:309:15 pm beginning in November.

SilverSneakers® Fitness Program

SilverSneakers is the nation’s leading older adult fitness program aiming to improve strength, endurance, flexibility, agility, and coordination. SilverSneakers memberships to the Family Y are provided with Humana, Medica and Ucare. Contact your insurance provider to see if you are eligible for a Y membership. For more information, contact the front desk. SilverSneakers classes are also offered.

Silver & Fit Fitness Program

The YMCA is a full participating Silver & Fit fitness center. This means that we partner with Blue Cross Blue Shield Platinum Blue, Senior Gold, Blue Essentials and HealthPartners insurance plans. Contact your insurance provider to see if you are eligible for a Y membership. For more information, contact the front desk.

Adult Racquetball League

Sign up for the A, B, or C League. Registration opens in November. League play will begins in December. The length of league play depends on the number of entrants (typically 12-15 weeks). Players’ scores throughout the season will be used to determine end-of-season tournament play.

Adult Football League

Adult Flag Football League 17 year of age of older can play. Co-Ed women are welcome to play but not needed for a team. Games will be 4 on 4 up to 7 on 7. Season will not start until at least 8 players are registered. Teams will change every game. We will play 2-3 games each week. Register at the Albert Lea Family YMCA.

Fountain Lake 5

(In conjunction with Southwest Tiger Trot) The Fountain Lake 5 is a five mile run, jog, or walk around Fountain Lake and takes place in April. Includes a dry-fit t-shirt & post-race refreshments. Awards are given to the top male and female and to the1st-3rd place finishers in each age group.

Livestrong Program at the YMCA

Co-sponsored by Clover Leaf Lions LIVESTRONG at the YMCA focuses on you—the whole person—not the disease. The free, 12-week program meets twice a week for 90 minutes, using traditional exercise methods to ease you back into fitness and help you maintain a healthy weight. You will focus on: building muscle mass and strength, increasing flexibility and endurance, and improving confidence and selfesteem. In addition, learn about wellness, stress reduction techniques and how to continue healthful habits after the program has ended. Just as important, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA encourages a warm spirit of community, creating a safe, comfortable place for you to build companionship with others affected by cancer and share stories and inspiration. Diabetes Prevention Program

Co-Sponsored by Clover Leaf Lions - The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program helps adults at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes reduce their risk for developing the disease by taking steps that will improve their overall health and well-being. Research by the National Institutes of Health has shown that programs like the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program can reduce the number of new cases of type 2 diabetes by 58%, and 71% in adults over the age of 60. It is a one-year program (16 weekly sessions, then monthly sessions) in a small group, supportive environment. It is classroom based with learning about healthier eating and increasing physical activity to reduce risk. The goal is to reduce body weight by 7% and increase physical activity to 150 minutes per week. Qualifications include adults 18+, overweight (BMI>25)*, at risk for or have been diagnosed with prediabetes, a previous diagnosis of gestational diabetes (If a blood test is not available, a qualifying risk score based on a combination of risk factors - family history, age, etc.). TABATA

Exercise the way your body was designed to move (as one unit) and become more athletic, regardless of where you begin. Enjoy a variety of exciting methods (i.e.: Pilates, break dancing, quadruped, and Olympic movements). Boot Camp Advanced is for the Intermediate/ Advanced Exerciser. Get an incredible full-body workout with Cardio Kickboxing! Have fun while building strength and burning lots of calories with a mix of aerobics, boxing, and martial arts. Cardio kickboxing is a total-body workout with a plethora of health benefits.

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and ease of daily living. Dumbbells, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.

Is constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity.

That very short interval isn’t enough to allow you to fully recover, which is one reason it’s great for building endurance and getting you in shape. The Tabata Protocol Format: 20 seconds of a very high-intensity exercise (e.g., sprints, burpees, squat jumps, etc.) 10 seconds of rest Repeat 8 times for a total of 4 minutes* Participants are strongly encouraged to sign-up for these classes to reserve their spot. Hand wraps, gloves, and boxing bags are limited.

Cross Training

Group cycling combined with segments of body weight and body bar strength training for a total body workout.

Fitness Vinyasa Yoga (Intermediate)

An all levels “Cardio” yoga that focuses on the breath with movement. Strength and flexibility, focus, and deep stretching for the healthy body, mind, and spirit.

Combines Pilates and yoga in a Vinyasa style flow. Sure to get your heart rate up, build strength and flexibility while supporting your mind, body, and spirit for a total body workout. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat. All levels welcome, previous yoga experience is advised.

Vinyasa Yoga

Gentle Yoga

Yin yoga

Enjoy this all-level cardio flow-style class. Sun salutations form the foundation, core, strengthening, and energy of the class. The class includes balance poses to center the mind and improve focus; bends that relieve stress, depression and soothe back pain; twists to realign the spine and stimulate the internal organs: and stressreducing meditation. No yoga experience necessary. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat. All standing poses are done with bare feet for your safety.

Hatha yoga (easy)

Using vinyasa flow sequences to link movement with breath, this moderate paced class helps to build strength and flexibility. The practice includes pranayama (breathing techniques) as well as asanas (postures) and ends with a short meditation to bring peace to the mind, body, and spirit. All levels welcome. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat.

HIIT Bootcamp

Take your workout to the next level with High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). This class will build muscular strength and improve cardiovascular fitness through various exercises performed at specific intervals. You’ll never get bored with a mash-up of calisthenics, free weights, plyometrics, and another of equipment for a variety of exercises in each session.

Lean Body Training

Non-stop, total body strength training with some HIIT cardio intervals thrown into the mix. This class will help you get that strong, lean, healthier, and more powerful body you’re working for. Non-Members: $35 per session/one day a week.

Progressive Fitness Program Day 1,2,3,4

Personal Training type of class with data and individual achievement and tracking of progress. With many scientifically proven techniques uses to improve fitness, athletic ability, and decrease body fat.

Senior YogaFit®

These series of poses and methods will allow seniors to increase muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, and stamina. The class also promotes a deeper mind/body connection that will help mental acuity and stress reduction.

Silver & Fit

The class is designed to increase the participant’s flexibility, joint stability, dynamic balance, coordination, agility, reaction time, muscular strength, power and cardiovascular endurance.

class will be centered around a Vinyasa style yoga (flow). Vinyasa Yoga integrates movement and breath, builds strength, and increases flexibility. Modifications will be offered to provide an optimal level for all individuals. A slow-paced style of yoga with postures, or asanas, that are held for longer periods of time—for beginners, it may range from 45 seconds to two minutes; more advanced practitioners may stay in one asana for five minutes or more.

ZUMBA

This is a high energy cardio class that utilizes Latin music and dance to energize and strengthen your entire body.

Indoor Cycling Your instructor will simulate a group ride as you travel on flat roads, climb hills, chase the pack, or race to the finish line! All levels welcome.

Deep Water Workout

Because this class is done in the deep water, zero impact is experienced by the joints. I good workout for people with joint pain. Intermediate and advanced levels. No swimming experience is needed, a float belt may be worn.

Joints in Motion 2

This class is the advanced more intense version of the Joints in Motion class. Class includes range of movement exercises, low and high impact movements, intensity intervals, and strength training. Keep your body moving and healthy!

Rusty Hinges

This water exercise class is for any age male or female that experiences mobility issues such as arthritis, MS, or injuries. The low impact movements and range of motion exercises will keep your body healthy and your joints moving. (Formerly known as Rusty Hinges).

Swimnastics

Enjoy a refreshing workout as you tone and strengthen muscles and increase flexibility. This shallow water class enables you to exercise with less strain and impact on joints.

Flag Football

K-1st Grade Kids will meet one day a week to develop their skills through a variety of age appropriate skill drills and team-building exercises. The seven-week session kicks off with a focus on skill development and advances to teamwork concepts which may include light scrimmaging and positive competition. Boys and girls from all schools will practice at the same time but will be divided into four teams for practice and games. These teams can and will change from week to week. The goal is for each player’s skills to improve and for each player to have fun. Teams will have equal amount of players and equal skill level. Flag Football is typically offered late August, all of September and into October. 2nd-3rd Grade Kids will meet two days a week to develop their skills through a variety of age appropriate skill drills and team-building exercises. The seven-week session kicks off with a focus on skill development and advances to teamwork concepts which may include light scrimmaging and positive competition. Boys and girls from all schools will practice at the same time but will be divided into four teams for practice and games. These teams can and will change from week to week. Volleyball is typically offered March - April.

Youth Basketball

K-5th Grade Kids will meet two days a week to develop their skills through a variety of age appropriate skill drills and team-building exercises. The seven-week session kicks off with a focus on skill development and advances to teamwork concepts which may include light scrimmaging and positive competition. All players will learn how to dribble, pass, shoot, defend and work as a team. Boys and girls will be divided by age and ability level for practice and games. These teams can and will change from week to week. The goal is for each player’s skills to improve and for each player to have fun. Teams will have equal amount of players and equal skill level each game. Basketball is typically offered late October, November and December.

Youth Floor Hockey

K-5th Grade Kids will meet weekly to develop their skills through a variety of age appropriate skill drills and team-building exercises. The six-week session kicks off with a focus on skill development. All players will learn how to pass, shoot, defend and work as a team. Boys and girls will be divided by age. Floor Hockey is typically offered February and March.

Middle School Dodgeball

6th-7th Grade Kids will meet weekly for six weeks to take part in the Y’s Dodgeball League! Pick-up games will be played. Boys and girls will be divided by age for and games. Dodgeball is typically offered late January - February.

K-5th Grade Kids will meet weekly for six weeks to take part in the Y’s Dodgeball League! Pick-up games will be played. Boys and girls will be divided by age for and games. Dodgeball is typically offered late January - February.

NEW Middle School Sports/Fitness Gym Area

In the fall of 2018, the Albert Lea Family Y will convert a racquetball court into an active gym area for Middle School Students. The room will consist of a traverse-climbing wall, an interactive touch wall and a heavy ball exergame. The Y will staff/schedule the room for groups during out-of-school times and special events.

K-6 Boys and girls will learn about and compete in track running events 100, 200, 400 meters, field events including; long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put and discus at Hammer Field Complex. Our coaches have over 100 years of combined track and field experience. Boys and girls will be divided by age. Track and Field is typically offered late May - June.

Preschool Basketball

Led by Dak Sorenson. Young kids learn fundamentals of basketball. Preschool Basketball is typically offered December-January.

Youth Outdoor Soccer

Ages 3-12 -Kids will meet weekly to develop their skills through a variety of age appropriate skill drills and teambuilding exercises. The six-week session kicks off with a focus on skill development and advances to teamwork concepts which may include light scrimmaging and positive competition. All players will learn how to pass, shoot, defend and working as a team. Boys and girls will be divided by age and ability level for practice and games. These teams can and will change from week to week. The goal is for each player’s skills to improve and for each player to have fun. Teams will have equal amount of players and equal skill level each game. Soccer is typically offered June - July.

Southwest Middle School Chess Club

Southwest Middle School students are invited to join an after school Chess Club at Southwest. All skill levels are welcome, from beginner to veteran. Chess Club meets on Tuesdays from October - March.

Swim Team

K-12th Grade Philosophy: A swimmer, be they a winner or not, gains a great deal by merely being a team member. Success means practice, fellowship, teamwork, exercise, and clean competition. Success as a competitor means meeting failure without being discouraged and then doing all you can to achieve your personal goals. Swimmer must be an annual Family Y member.

3:30 Fit Club

The 3:30 Fit Club is for 6th grade students that want to have fun and be active after school. Participating in this program will help students burn off extra energy, experience different avenues of fitness, and learn about living a healthy lifestyle. After completing a session of the 3:30 Fit Club, students receive a free membership to the Y for the remainder of the year! For more information contact the Y. Ask about transportation from Southwest Middle School to the Y after school. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:45 pm. Check with Southwest Middle School for start date.

Youth Weight Training Orientation

Orientations are for 12, 13, and 14 year olds who would like access to the SMB and free weight rooms. Staff will provide the knowledge needed to use the facility independently and responsibly. The orientation will highlight the correct use of equipment, proper lifting techniques, strength training principles, safety rules, and proper etiquette. A personalized fitness plan will be given to the student upon completion of the orientation. Pre-registration is required.


Youth & Family Rental of the Y

The Y is available for overnight lock-ins and other events. Call for more details 507-373-8228.

Birthday Parties

Fridays after 6:30pm & Saturday. Have your child’s next birthday party at the Y! Our birthday parties are an hour and half long with your choice of the gym, swimming or the Bounce Castle. You will also have access to our party room to finish up the party. Call the Family Y for more details.

Home School Gym & Swim (Family)

Minnesota Model U.N.

Model United Nations encourages youth to view issues through a total global perspective. Delegations of six students select a country of their choice; prepare issue papers, working papers, and topic research to be presented at the Model Assembly. The Assembly takes place March 28-30, 2019 and registration begins December 17, 2018. The program focuses its attention on the United Nations committee process. The fee includes Model U.N. Study Guide, Reference Guide, program supplies, conference portfolio, two nights lodging, a banquet, evening mixer activities, administration and transportation from the YMCA to and from conference.

The YMCA emphasizes development of spirit, mind and body in each program that is offered. This program allows homeschooled children & their families the opportunity to use the pool and gym. Tuesday & Thursday: Pool:10am-11:30am 1/2 Gym: 10am-11:45am

Family Time

Every Friday from 5 pm to close and Sunday from 2-4 pm during the 2018-2019 school year bring the entire family to enjoy the Y. Come and use the gym, racquetball courts, and swimming pool. Look for special Friday night family activities.

Parent & Toddler Stay-4-Play

Parent & Toddler Stay-4-Play is an opportunity for toddlers and preschoolers to be active with their parent(s) through games and activities in the gym. This is a parent run class, so come and enjoy some time away from home with your children. Balls, nets, a parachute and other equipment will be available for the children to play with. You may also bring your ride-on toys to use in the gym. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Call the Family Y for more information.

Youth in Government

The Albert Lea Family Y will again be offering the Youth in Government program. Albert Lea sends 25-50 youth annually to participate in the Youth in Government program. Over 1,000 youths take part statewide each year. The program is open for students in 8th through 12th grade. Find out what it is like to run the state government as either a legislator, court judge, lobbyist, page or a member of the news media. The Y sets up local delegations, gives training and assistance. The launch training is at Fridley High School October 27, 2018 and the model assembly is January 1013, 2019. All delegations meet in St. Paul to form and run a model state government, make new friends and have fun in the process. Meeting dates and times will be announced at your school in early September.

Child Care Playroom Service

The playroom child care service is for children ages 6 weeks to 8 years while their parents are at the Y. Monday-Friday: 8:30am-11:00am Monday, Wednesday, & Friday: 5:00pm-7:40pm Tuesday & Thursday: 4:15pm-7:40pm Saturday: 8:30am-11:45am Payment for playroom services is by playroom cards only. Cards can be purchased at the front desk and come in increments of $12 or $24.

The Y’s School’s Out Program

Looking for a safe, fun place for your children to go after school? Why not try the Y’s School’s Out program? This program is for children grades K-5. The program starts when school is over and ends at 6:00pm. Kids will be bussed to the Y from their school. The program will run every day school is in session! The Y will provide a healthy after school snack to each child. After snack, they will have the choice to participate in many different activities. Activities include, group games, gym time, arts and crafts, cooking class, science and technology, swimming, and we also allow time to finish up any homework. We also take occasional field trips.

Kids Day Off/ Inclement Weather Days

Throughout the school year there are several days with no school for the kids. On those weekdays, the place for K-5 elementary school youth is at the Y! We offer games, crafts, group activities, science experiments, cooking class, field trips, swimming and lots of fun. Children can arrive as early as 7:00am and must be picked up by 6:00pm. The Y staff will lead & participate in all activities. Parents need to send a sack lunch, two snacks, water bottle, swimsuit and towel for their children. School’s Out Parents: Be sure to register your children for the day in advance. For children not enrolled in School’s Out Program, payment is required before your children participate. Attention Parents: You’re allowed to register the day of the program, but there will be an extra $5.00 charge per child. Pre-registration ensures we have the appropriate amount of staff and materials for projects. Sign up 24 hours prior for Kids Day Off. During winter months we experience many unexpected weather related school cancellations. The Y offers a safe and enjoyable environment for your child to go during these occurrences. We will be open 7:00am - 6:00pm during the days where school is closed. WE will also be open for child care when school is let out early. When school closings do occur, your child will need to bring 2 snacks, a sack lunch, water bottle, and a swimsuit and towel if they choose to swim. For early dismissals, a healthy snack will be provided for them.

Day Camp

Your child can enjoy the excitement of day camp all summer! You can provide your child with excellent care as well as an adventure in the great outdoors. Register for 1 to 13 weeks of camp. (Length of camp depends on school start date.) Ask about our Leaders In-Training program (L.I.T.) for 7th and 8th graders. Extended Day Pre & Post Camp program – Children may be dropped off as early as 7 a.m. The children will have a supervised area in which to play until camp begins. Children may be picked up as late as 6:00 p.m. at the end of the camp day. To sign up, please indicate on registration form. This cost is provided as part of the camp program. 2019 Camp Sessions – To be determined. Look for brochure in February. Financial assistance is available through Freeborn County and the Albert Lea Family Y. Some activity fees may not be covered. Pick up assistance forms at the Family YMCA. Extra Fee’s: There may be a small cover charge with field trips, cost pending. Only full year youth members receive member rates (one-year membership costs $132.) Registration – Child care programs are open to all boys and girls regardless of race, creed, disability, or national origin. Family Y memberships are not necessary to participate. Stage A (1&2 yr olds) Stage B (3&4 yr olds)

Parents/guardians are in the water with the child. This is an instructor led class intended to help young children become comfortable and safe in and around water. Techniques will be taught to help orient their children to the water and to supervise water activities in a safe manner. These classes involve both parent and child in the water. Parent and child will focus on floating and basic skills.

YMCA Swim Lessons

The Albert Lea Family Y’s curriculum offers different skill levels that emphasizes stroke mechanics, water games, personal safety, rescue skills and stamina. Please see the Y swim lessons flyer to see how the Y levels compare to Red Cross levels and to find out which level best suits your swimmer. Levels with fewer than two swimmers may be cancelled or combined with a group one level above or below. Levels: Stages A, B, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Private Swim Lessons—Youth & Adult

Private swim lessons allow you to work at your own pace with an instructor. Learn to swim for the first time or perfect certain strokes. Schedule your classes around your schedule. Contact the Y for scheduling information. Participants must fill out a registration form.

NEW - Safety Around Water

Beginning in September of 2018 the Albert Lea Family Y will offer a Safety Around Water swim lesson curriculum for any youth in Freeborn County who has not had a swim lesson. The class will be free and is a series of three one-hour lessons. Lessons take place after school on Monday Wednesday and Friday for 1 week during the school year. Signups will take place after school begins. This is open to youth in Kindergarten through 7th grade.

Red Cross Lifeguarding

For ages 15 and older. Red Cross Lifeguarding is a national certificate that is recognized by many organizations. Those who successfully complete this course will receive certification in lifeguarding, first aid and CPR/AED for the professional rescuer. Prerequisites include a minimum age of 15 and strong swimming ability. For more information, contact David Cheeks.
