We wouldn’t have anyone else looking after our boys now and would be lost without Julie.

Knowing that Julie would not just feed our cat and go, but give him some much needed play time and also turn lights on and pull curtains.

Note from the Editor... Dear Neighbours, As I'm writing my note, always the final page to complete before I go to print, it's raining outside, the Summer Solstice is on the horizon and I'm planning a short break to Normandy with a group of friends to visit the historic battle sites, made even more poignant as we have just commemorated 75 years since the D-Day landings. I hope the weather improves as we are all travelling by motorbike! As always, I have been out and about in and around our town attending events and enjoying our wonderful and vibrant community. I enjoyed an evening at the theatre (aka the WI Hall in Edenbridge), entertained by our very talented amateur dramatics group, The Edenbridge Players, for their interpretation of 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' , one of my favourite Sherlock Holmes stories. The cast and crew did a sterling job as usual and Andrew Robinson and Peter Stevens performed the roles of Holmes and Watson with conviction. May saw the opening of a new venue in town, the Matt Cox Community Pavilion, in Blossoms Park (Mill Hill). Not only does Edenbridge Cricket Club have wonderful new modernised facilities but we also have another venue available for hire. The official opening was celebrated with some cricket matches during the day and entertainment and food in the evening. There was a huge turnout to mark the occasion. The event even made the BBC News! Regular readers might recall that I'm rather partial to attending local art exhibitions and I was delighted when I received an invitation to the opening of local artist Terry Carter's exhibition which was on display in BRIDGES for the month. If you missed the exhibition you can view more of his work online at www.terrycarter.co.uk. It's certainly worth popping into BRIDGES (40-42 High Street, TN8 5AJ) as they change the art exhibitions monthly. You can enjoy a cuppa and cake from their café while you peruse the local art. I've had a rather unusual turn of events since signing off for print with the last issue. Not only was I informed of the cancellation of the Hospital Fête at the beginning of June but I also received notification that the Big O Vintage Festival due to take place on the 6/7 July has also 16 | www.edenbridge-magazine.co.uk • info@edenbridge-magazine.co.uk • 01732 864 878

The Edenbridge Magazine • July/August 2019 been cancelled! Not so good as I know many people were looking forward to it and they were also giving away tickets for the Prize Crossword as well :-( Thankfully the Eden Valley Chamber of Commerce have stepped in and are giving the winner a family ticket to attend the 'Edenbridge Motor Show & Music Festival' taking place on Sunday 8th September 2019. This event is my joint favourite (Bonfire being my other favourite) and not just because I get to be the MC on stage for the day but because I love the vehicle displays and all the super musical entertainment. It is a huge event for the local Chamber of Commerce to organise but the team do an amazing job and there are always thousands of people turning out to enjoy the day. Make a note in your diaries NOW! *Name that brew* As part of the Edenbridge Motor Show, Godstone Brewers are creating a special Edenbridge Motor Show brew and the Chamber of Commerce are inviting people to come up with a name for the new brew. The winning name will be chosen before the show and the winner will receive a prize package which will include free tickets and some of the beer. If you'd like to enter, please email your name suggestions to info@edenbridgemotorshow.co.uk. Finally, as I do like to put this together in chronological order, I'd like to also say well done to the Forge Singers for their latest production, Musical Mayhem, which has just made it into this issue. As always, the costumes, dance routines and of course the singing made for another enjoyable date night with Joe. We both enjoyed a fun sing-a-long to many of the songs we recognised. As always, please do mention ‘The Edenbridge Magazine’ if you are responding to anything you’ve seen in this publication as it helps to secure it’s future and I hope you enjoy this issue as much as I have putting it together. The next deadline is Friday 2nd August for the September/October issue which will be distributed during the last week of August.

Date night with Joe at the WI Hall :-)

Until next time...

The Edenbridge Magazine • July/August 2019

Why advertise in The Edenbridge Magazine Why advertise your business in The Edenbridge Magazine? Quite simply, it works for the majority of businesses you see featured each issue, many of who have been advertising for years! If you want to build your local customer base, increase your profits and make sure the local community knows about your business, advertising in this magazine can really help. The Edenbridge Magazine attracts both large and small businesses who want to promote their services locally, with costs kept low to offer excellent value advertising. Smaller businesses, especially those without a ‘shop front’, can promote their services in a quality publication to the people who want to use them.

There are some great reasons to give it a go! Targeted audience: The magazine is delivered to 6,300 homes and businesses in the TN8 area by Royal Mail every other month. Great value: Prices are kept low so that small businesses can make the most of their advertising budget and appear over a number of issues. It’s a fact that a sustained campaign works better at increasing sales than a one-off advert. All advertisers featured in each issue are listed on the magazine’s website - www.edenbridge-magazine.co.uk - giving your business even more exposure. Good Service: From your initial enquiry, we will help you choose the best advertising package for your business according to your budget. We will make sure you have an eye-catching advert with a clear message about your business. Results: We want your advertising to work for you and we will do our best to make sure you get the most out of your campaign. About 80% of the businesses featured in this magazine are repeat advertisers! A good read: The magazine contains interesting local articles, useful information and listings of local events alongside the business advertising. Residents hold onto the magazines until the next issue arrives so that your advert is seen again and again. It’s been around since 2005 and is a well established part of every household.

May/June 2019 Crossword Winner May/June 2019 Solution Congratulations to Jane Moseley of Edenbridge who is the winner of the final prize crossword. Unfortunately the event organiser who donated tickets for the last issue's prize had to cancel the event shortly after we went to print :-( In place of this, organisers of the Edenbridge Motor Show & Music Festival, the Eden Valley Chamber of Commerce, have stepped in and donated a family ticket to the winner to their SPECTACULAR event on Sunday 8th September 2019, an event not to be missed! You can read more about the show on page 40 or visit www.edenbridgemotorshow.co.uk.

Being a loser makes Wendy a winner! Being the best at losing wouldn’t normally help you to scoop an award - yet one woman from Edenbridge has done just that after being named the town’s ‘Greatest Loser’ 2019. That’s because Wendy has lost a life-changing 11½ stone to take the title, which is awarded to the member of the Edenbridge Slimming World group who has lost the most weight, and feels great as a result. Wendy says: “There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being a loser when it feels this good! I feel like a new woman since losing weight – in fact, I look so different that people who I haven’t seen for a while often can’t believe I’m the same person. For me though it’s the change on the inside that’s been the greatest – I’m happier, healthier and much more confident now.” Wendy joined the Edenbridge group, run by Sue Whittington. She says: “My weight impacted on so many aspects of my life, from struggling to find clothes that I like to fit to not being able to do simple everyday tasks without feeling tired and out of breath. Before I lost the weight I hated having my photo taken and whenever I saw pictures of myself I knew that my smile wasn’t real – yet now I’m beaming!” 34 | www.edenbridge-magazine.co.uk • info@edenbridge-magazine.co.uk • 01732 864 878
