RECEPTION TRIP TO LOOKOUT DISCOVERY CENTRE Reception had a wonderful day at the Lookout Discovery Centre in Bracknell this week! We started off in the building room, where we had to operated a pulley which took tiles up the to roof of a house, which we called the Three Little Pig's house! The walls of the house were crumbling down, so we realised that the Big Bad Wolf must have blown it down. We put on our yellow builder's hats and jackets, and drove our yellow heavy vehicles full of bricks to build up the house to the roof again. After it got to the top, we had an enormous surprise when the Big Bad Wolf (wearing a black cloak) appeared, who started huffing and puffing at our house. Fortunately we had built our walls so strong that the Big Bad Wolf was unable to blow them over! Somehow though, he did manage to chase several piggies and made a good attempt at gobbling them up... Many of the children thought that the Big Bad Wolf looked somewhat like Mrs Quinton, but I assured them that I had been away in the toilet when the whole event took place and I only rushed back in because I heard the excited screams from the children!

The rest of the day was spent exploring and investigating in all the many different parts of the building. We had a delicious lunch prepared by our lovely chef Carol, and then we all went to play in the adventure playground outdoors. The day was finished off with a wonderful show about water, bubbles and balloons. A huge thank you to our kind parents helpers who helped to make it such a enjoyable day for us all. Mrs Quinton and Mrs Hegarty

ANTI-BULLYING VIRTUAL REALITY WORKSHOP On Tuesday 25th April the upper phase children were lucky enough to experience a workshop about a topic very close to our hearts: anti bullying. Whilst the children engage in lots of activities on this theme across the school this particular workshop was delivered via virtual reality headsets, where the children got the opportunity to explore the story behind lots of the characters involved on the scenario. The format encouraged plenty of comment, question and debate between the children in their classes, and served well to reinforce the anti-bullying message the school is always sending out. It was a stand-out event that should live long in the children’s memory and encourage them to continue to monitor their own behaviour to make sure they are focussed on anti-bullying.

“I loved the antibullying virtual reality workshop because I liked how we could ask the characters in the video questions.”

“They showed us if you know someone’s story then you might not bully them.”

“I found it very fun and exciting by using the new technology!”

“It showed me what to do and what not to do about bullying.” “I enjoyed it immensely and found it taught me a lot. It was a very good way to teach I think.”

PRE SCHOOL NEWS This week in Pre-School we have been discussing the types of foods we eat and what is healthy and unhealthy food. The children did really well at grouping the food apart from they think sweets are healthy! We had the opportunity to make some adventurous smoothies containing carrots, spinach, banana, yogurt or mixed berries. Now I know some parents really enjoyed what your child made... (we had some interesting facial expressions). Next week we will be looking at our senses and Spring so start preparing those lovely show and tells. Have a great bank holiday weekend and will see you next Tuesday. From The Pre-School TeamÂ

Dear Mrs Chalmers, This is a note to thank you, Angela Sicurella and the children of Danesfield Manor School for your kind donation of ÂŁ150 for the children and young people of St. Michael's Centre in Kampala, Uganda. Please convey our special gratitude to the children and all who helped raise the money. The orphans of St. Michael's are already aware of the aware of the efforts of the children of Danesfield Manor to help them. They are always grateful to all who assist them, especially the help they receive from other children. Much of the money we send helps to provide the children with a good education which will give them hope for the future. Some of our young people have done well and one young man who graduated as a doctor three years ago will begin his training to be a surgeon later this year. The assistance from the young people of Danesfield Manor is really helping to change the lives of other young people. Thanking you once again for all your help. With all good wishes, Yours sincerely, The Revd. John Pearson Chairman of the Help Uganda Trust And Parish priest of St. Erconwald's

AWARD WALL

“School in a Bag” Biathlon & Mufti Day Thank you to all the children, parents and friends who invested so much of their time and money into the Charity Biathlon and mufti day in aid of the charity School in a Bag. As with last year’s event, it was enjoyed by the children who put a tremendous effort into the swimming and running to raise money to purchase school equipment for children in Africa. In the end, we raised a fantastic £1270, with some pupils contributing well over £100 each. Danesfield Manor School greatly appreciates the fabulous support and generosity of our pupils and parents in these events. We will be having a book sale later this which will be announced in due course. Well done to all who took part. Mr Potter
