Sherin Johnson Editorial

In secular terms, the quality of being morally righteous is called righteousness. no man can ever earn righteousness by his deeds The Bible says “He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,” (Titus 3:5).

Righteousness is ultimately a gift of God Lord Jesus Christ is the ultimate gift of God for righteousness to all human beings. God made Him an atonement who knew no sin The Bible says “He became a sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Hence, righteousness is counted not according to any of our conduct, rather on the measure of our faith in Jesus Christ. It is a free gift for everyone who believes in Jesus Christ.

kingdom Perspectives I www kpm org uk 06

Now once we have the revelation of righteousness as a free gift in Jesus Christ we can lean on Him. Satan will come and tell you that you have no right to be blessed, healed, filled with the Holy Spirit or to minister to others etc. But believe that you have been given the free gift of righteousness Trust in His word for your righteousness. The Bible says God reconciled the world to Himself on His great atonement in the cross of Calvary. “that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting people’s sins against them [but canceling them]. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation [that is, restoration to favor with God]” (2 Corinthians 5:18-20). When you come across rough spots in life; instead of plodding under them, you need to stand firm and triumph over them. As you are the righteousness of God, you will come out victorious May the good Lord bless you to triumph in life by leaning on him

"

R ighteousness by faith”

“For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.” Romans 9:15-16 is the kingdom principle. God intends that we shall live by the righteousness merited to us by God the Father, in and through Jesus Christ when we believed in Him. When we were unworthy of a righteous life, God in His great grace counted us worthy. Apostle Paul proves this grace of God through three different examples in Romans 9. The first example is Abraham’s faith. When He believed in God, God counted him righteous. The Bible says, “Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness” (Genesis 15:6).

kingdom Perspectives I www kpm org uk 12

Abraham is a person who consistently received messages from God by different spiritual means such as vision, angelic visitation, dreams and theophony etc. “After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward” (Genesis 15:1).” That is the speciality of our God. He will not leave anyone who has heard a promise from God , until they receive a confirmation about that promise. Today God wants to affirm to you that “He is going to be your shield and reward as He has selected you with a divine promise and you are part of God’s eternal plan. When God becomes our shield, all the unnecessary things will not enter into your tent. When God Almighty Himself is your reward, you will find the resources open and operated for all your needs everywhere you go.

That's exactly what God was reassuring Abraham. However, Abraham is asking God about two doubts in his empty reality of life.

13 kingdom Perspectives I www kpm org uk

Firstly, He is asking what can you give me since I remain childless? Secondly, how can I know that I will gain possession of it? (Genesis 15:2 &7). God knew his questions beforehand. That is the reason God reassured him with the promises. Our God knows your situation even before you remind Him about it and He already has a solution for it. Let’s lean on to His great grace. The resolution of God for Abraham is very interesting to note. God brought him out of his house and asked him to look at God’s abundance in creation - the stars of heaven. God sometimes takes us out of our comfort zones and changes our directions. He asks us to look around His nature to understand His ability available for you and me. Since God is such a powerful creator, He has to be acknowledged for who He is in order to see His wonders happen in our life. He will initiate something good for you from this year since His mercy and grace for you is great. As years go by and the days are nearing to His coming, God has a great determination to prosper and use His called ones extensively in a higher realm. God inspired me in my prayer room and said this year-2023 is going to be a year of grace. Due to His grace you will be blessed, delivered and used according to His longsuffering over your life.

kingdom Perspectives I www kpm org uk 14

I would like to reassure you that the same God who promised Abraham, who then reaffirmed it and after a while fulfilled the promises to Abraham, will surely show His grace to you and bless you.

Apostle Paul proves the grace of God through the second example in God’s selection of the chosen one - Jacob, from Rebekah’s twin children. The Bible says God loved Jacob and hated Esau even before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad. God is very different from any human being. He selected and showed His grace upon you not according to any of your works. God rejected many and selected you for a great purpose. Therefore, a special grace of God is already upon you. It will reflect and influence your life just like what God has done to Jacob. It will automatically lead you forward in life, into success and prosperity. You are chosen before the creation of the world for good works. Just lean on to His great grace.

A first born holds a lot of rights in a Jewish family. Esau sold his birthright and neglected his position in the lineage as a firstborn. God is not unrighteous, rather God knew about Esau and his intentions. God even knew Esau’s determination to reject his birthright.

15 kingdom Perspectives I www kpm org uk

The Bible says, “See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son” (Hebrews 12:6). His sin is counted as sexually immoral and godless. We should not be like Esau who compromised his rights for mere food. Do not dishonour our sonship in Christ Jesus and the righteousness God merited to us. Until our last breath, we need to be consistent in faith like Jacob. Let us not by any means of unbelief, dishonour the Spirit of Grace. The Bible says, “Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath despised the Spirit of grace?” (Hebrews 10:29).

Esau cried a lot to receive his rights and blessings back but he couldn't achieve it. The Bible says, “Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears, he could not change what he had done” (Hebrews 12:17). “When Esau heard his father’s words, he burst out with a loud and bitter cry and said to his father, “Bless me me too, my father!” (Genesis 27:34). On the other hand, the chosen one - Jacob got blessed in everything since the grace of God was upon him. We cannot question the choice of God. He chooses and gives sonship in His foreknowledge. God knew the personality of Esau and his heart beforehand. May God prosper and honor you just like God’s great grace towards Jacob. For His grace is so great. The same God is the one who called you. May you be multiplied in many numbers. The God who gave Jacob many escapes from problems and troubles in life will give you many escapes in life. The God of Jacob who gave many victories to His servant in His great mercy and grace, will give you a season of victory in life. if God is prospering you, It is to meet the needs of the poor, sick and and those that are in jail. Hence Jesus said "I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ (Matthew 25:36). Be ready to pour your blessings into the needy and the widows who don't have anyone to help.

Apostle Paul proves the grace of God through the third example of God’s grace which God showed on His servant Moses and the Israelites while they were in Egyptian slavery. The Bible says, “It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. For Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”

Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden” (Romans 9:16,17&18). There is time for everyone ' s life to be delivered no matter how strong your enemy is. In His determined time God came down for His people of Israel in Egypt. God showed His might and strength to the most powerful king of the timePharaoh. If God delivered Israel, a weak people who were slaves, from the hand of a mighty king,

how much more can He give you deliverance. Lean on to God’s grace If God has determined to show grace to you, surely it will reflect in your life. May God give you strength to live in full potential May His grace cover you just like God covered His servant Moses and His children Israel. The Israelites were covered in the wings of God when God judged Egypt The Bible says, “The only place it did not hail was the land of Goshen, where the Israelites were ” (Exodus 9:26).

May God give you a special covering from this year forward. Your responsibility is to take the yoke of God entrusted to you. His yoke is easy and his burden is light. “Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).

Be consistent in your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Follow the guidance of the Spirit of Grace for which you have been sealed for salvation. Do not boast on your own abilities anymore but lean on to God and give Him the credit. Trust in God. He will never leave you nor forsake you. All His promises for you will never change, they will come true. May God make your days more beautiful than ever before. Blessings!!!

ETYMOLOGY - RIGHTEOUSNESS

The Hebrew words tsadiyq, translated as righteous, and yashar, seen 3477 times in the OT, translated as upright, are paralleled many times in the Bible indicating that in the Hebrew mind they were similar in meaning. Upright is another abstract word but it is used in a concrete manner, such as in Jeremiah 31:9, where it means "straight" as in a straight path

The Greek word 'dikaiosune' appears 1343 times in the NT, meaning 'Righteousness'. The word “righteousness” is intrinsically associated with the concept of justice It stems from the Greek word dikaios meaning “equity of character

and action” where the stress on equity (impartiality, fairness) and action implies the concept of justice It is also associated with the noun dikastes, the word meaning “ a judge, arbitrator, umpire”.In other words, the Biblical equation for righteousness is: Righteousness = Character (Piety) + Action (Justice) However, the Pharisees cut off the second part of the equation and turned piety inwards: Righteousness = Piety

And without the justice element of the word, we lose the heart of our faith Focusing solely on rightness before God, it is too easy to assume that we ’ re absolved from our duty to others.

3 kingdom Perspectives I www.kpm.org.uk 20

Compassion becomes an optional extra because all that principally matters is personal piety.

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of God’s throne, that needs to be at the core of life as children of God.

If we want to live and possess what God offers we must pursue righteousness, because God the Father is righteous (just); Jesus Christ his Son is the Righteous (Just) One; the Father through the Son and in the Spirit gives the gift of righteousness (justice) to repentant sinners for salvation; such believing sinners are declared righteous (just) by the Father through the Son, are made righteous (just) by the Holy Spirit working in them, and will be wholly righteous (just) in the age to come They are and will be righteous because they are in a covenant relation with the living God, who is the God of all grace and mercy and who will bring to completion what he has begun in them by declaring them righteous for Christ's sake. Our righteousness as believers comes from the Lord Jesus Christ. When He died on the cross, He traded His righteousness for our sin and left us without the penalty of our sins Amen
