Mediterranean tradition and contemporaneity

En el centro de la ciudad y del Distrito del Eixample, en el eje comercial del Paseo de Gracia, se diseña la nueva sede corporativa de Carner Barcelona, una marca local de perfumes exquisitos, intensos e innovadores de Barcelona. Esta boutique se ubica en un edificio catalogado que conserva los elementos constructivos originales propios de la tradición catalana. La sobriedad y autenticidad de los espacios diseñados permite destacar los valores y la filosofía de la marca, contextualizados en la mediterraneidad y la artesanía local. Asimismo, el color blanco permite destacar el producto.

In the center of the city and the Eixample District, on the commercial axis of Paseo de Gracia, the new corporate headquarters of Carner Barcelona is designed. A local brand of exquisite, intense and innovative perfumes in Barcelona. It is located in a building that preserves its original and typical construction elements of the Catalan architecture. The sobriety and authenticity of the designed spaces allow the values and philosophy of the brand to emerge. It is contextualized in the Mediterranean and local crafts. Likewise, the resulting homogeneous white color makes the product stand out. The strategies are focus in the search of a timeless project that links tradition with cosmopolitan contemporaneity, which tunes with the identity of the company.

Estas estrategias de proyecto, se enmarcan en la búsqueda de un proyecto atemporal que enlaza la tradición con la contemporaneidad cosmopolita, en sintonía con la identidad de la compañía. Se proyecta un área de showroom y tienda con zonas de oficina. Los espacios diáfanos, establecen una continuidad visual y material manteniendo la privacidad necesaria según cada espacio. Los materiales, combinados armónicamente entre ellos, se han escogido para alcanzar una propuesta genuina. Son de origen local y utilizados en coherencia con el proyecto, teniendo en cuenta sus características, sensaciones al tacto y comportamiento con la luz natural. Se priorizan los de bajo impacto ambiental, como la madera para amoblamiento y piso cerfiticada de bosques gestionados de manera adecuada y respetuosa con el medio ambiente. Pinturas minerales y de lima que regulan la humedad ofrecen espacios saludables y confortables. La ausencia de paredes favorece la ventilación cruzada desde el patio posterior a la calle. El paisajismo del patio mejora integralmente la calidad y la temperatura del aire, el bienestar de las personas y nos trae más cerca de la naturaleza.

A showroom and store area with office areas is planned. The spaces are diaphanous, establishing a visual and material continuity maintaining the necessary privacy according to the requirements. Few materials have been used, combined with each other and chosen to achieve a genuine proposal. They are of local origin and used in coherence with the project. Taking into account their characteristics, sensations to the touch and behavior with natural light. Those with low environmental impact are prioritized, such as wood for furniture and flooring. Certified from forests managed appropriately and respectfully with the environment. Lime and breathable mineral paints that regulate humidity, offering healthy and comfortable spaces. The lack of walls favors natural cross ventilation from the back patio to the street. The patio landscaping in plenty in a way that improves the quality and temperature of the air, the well-being of people and brings us closer to nature.

“To highlight the brand and its gorgeous packaging, Jofre Roca applies a radical strategy: eliminate competition from the surrounding architecture and paint it white. Oasis en Escudellers Gremios medievales y tradiciones modernistas en un pequeño apartamento en Barcelona En la renovación de un pequeño apartamento en el centro del barrio gótico de Barcelona se incrustan artefactos que remontan a la cultura medieval de los gremios y a las tradiciones modernistas de la ciudad. Los materiales son de proximidad, como la piedra de la Garrotxa, que contribuye al color y a la luz interior. El nuevo plan se organiza en torno a la ubicación original de los mosaicos hidráulicos. Es un oasis de calma. Los nuevos detalles son elaboradas reinterpretaciones que actualizan la cultura artesanal en el siglo 21.

An oasis on escudellers Medieval guild and modernist traditions in a small apartment in Barcelona The renovation of a small apartment in the center of Barcelona’s gothic quarter is imbedded with artifacts that harken to medieval guild culture and modernist traditions of the city. Materials are locally sourced, including Garrotxa stone which contributes color and light within. The new plan is organized around the original location of the concrete hydraulic tiles. It is an oasis of calm. New details are thoughtful reinterpretations that bring the artisanal culture into the 21st century.

Permeabilidad “Los criterios de salud y bienestar de la arquitectura de Jofre Roca marcan una nueva tendencia en despachos que quieren retener talento” Arquitecta Sophia Gruzdys En esta intervención paisajística se incorporan criterios de biofília y de diseño según los estándares de la certificación Well, unos criterios pensados para mejorar la salud y el bienestar para conseguir empresas saludables y retener el talento. Se dignifica la entrada: el muro vegetal transcurre desde la fachada hacia el interior invitando al peatón a entrar en el edificio. Los paramentos de cristal posibilitan que el vestíbulo sea visible desde la calle. A partir de esta transparencia se potencia la permeabilidad de estos espacios.

Permeability “The health and well-being criteria at Jofre Roca mark a new trend in offices that want to retain talent” Architect Sophia Gruzdys This landscape intervention incorporates biophilia and design criteria according to the Well Certification Standards, a criterion designed to improve health and well-being in order to achieve healthy companies and retain talent. The entrance is dignified: the plant wall runs from the façade towards the interior, inviting the pedestrian to enter the building, whilst the glass walls allow the lobby to be visible from the street. From this transparency the permeability of these spaces is enhanced.

Natural thermal and acoustic insulation

El techo está integrado en la ladera natural de la montaña, minimizando el impacto visual en el paisaje y haciendo uso de un aislamiento térmico y acústico natural. La entrada a la casa parece la entrada a una cueva: unos pocos escalones introducen a un pasillo, que se abre a un patio a través del cual la luz fluye hacia la sala de estar. La alargada planta baja da al Sur, así que todas las habitaciones gozan de luz natural. Esto favorece la circulación del aire y ofrece espectaculares vistas de la costa Mediterránea. La casa, enterrándose parcialmente con techos verdes y paredes de concreto alcanza un ahorro energético significativo. La predominancia de líneas rectas en el plano de la casa solo se rompe con el diseño semicircular de una de las paredes, que alberga la sala de estar.

The roof is integrated into the natural slope of the hill, minimizing the visual impact on the landscape and making use of natural thermal and acoustic insulation. The entry to the house resembles the entrance to a cave: a few steps lead into the hall, which opens onto a courtyard through which the light floods into the living room. The elongated floor plan faces south, so all rooms enjoy natural light, encourages the circulation of air and offering spectacular views of the Mediterranean coast. The house, partially burying with green roofs and concrete walls achieves significant en ergy savings. The predominance of straight lines in the plan of the house is only broken by the semicircular design of one of the walls, which houses the living room.

Esta casa es uno de los primeros proyectos de Javier Barba y de hecho, su primer proyecto bioclimático. La condición del suelo, de pendiente pronunciada, con una movida carretera cruzando en la cima, la orientación y buenas vistas, llevaron la decisión de medio enterrar la vivienda.

This house is one of the first projects by Javier Barba and, indeed, the first bioclimatic project. The condition of the land, steep slope , with a busy road crossing on the top, the orientation and good views, led to the decision of half-burying the house.

Mímesis de pizarra La casa lineal, rectangular y con vistas panorámicas a la bahía, encaja con le forma de de las colinas alrededor de la bahía de Cadaqués. Esta casa está integrada y desaparece en el paisaje gracias a la piedra pizarra, material protagonista de este proyecto. Una patio, parcialmente cubierto por una pérgola, es el enlace entre la casa principal, la casa de huéspedes y la zona de sombras. Enfrentando esta zona, encontramos una gran piscina infinita. La vegetación nativa se incorpora alternativamente en diferentes partes del terreno. La atmósfera dentro de la casa es sobria y cálida. Algunos muebles están empotrados en la cocina, los baños y la biblioteca del líving.

Slate stone mimesis The lineal house, rectangular and with panoramic views to the bay, fits with the shape of land in the hills around the Cadaqués Bay This house is integrated and disappears in the landscape because of the slate stone, protagonist material of this project. A courtyard, partially covered by a pergola, is the link between the main house and the guests’ area and the shade area. Facing this, there is a large infinity pool. The native vegetation is incorporated alternately in several parts of the land. The atmosphere inside the house is sober and warm and, some of the furniture are built in, the kitchen, the bathrooms and the library of the living room.

El espíritu y la emoción del vino La familia Torres pidió crear un lugar para presentar los mejores vinos de sus viñedos El proyecto se divide en tres niveles, respetando la elevación natural del terreno. El primer nivel, bajo tierra, es donde las barricas de vino se preservan en reserva. El segundo se desarrolla como un claustro. Este es un espacio para meditación y reflexión que incluye una fuente en su centro. El fondo transparente de la fuente conecta el centro del patio con el centro de la plaza bajo tierra con un haz de luz, simbolizando la unión entre el interior y el exterior de la tierra. Finalmente, la casa del tercer nivel es una sala de degustación y un museo.

Spirit and emotion of wine The Torres family requested to create a place to present the best wines of their vineyard The project is divided into three levels, respecting the natural elevation of the land. The first underground level is where the barrels of wine are held in reserve. The second is developed as a cloister. This is a space for meditation and reflection that includes a fountain in the center. The transparent glass bottom of the fountain connects the center of the courtyard with the center of the underground plaza with a beam of light, symbolizing the union between the interior and exterior of the land. Finally, the third level houses a tasting room and museum.

The space was developed using a selection of small-leaved shrubs in differentiating shades of green, creating a space of serenity, through the use of chromatic uniformity and volume management. The spatial and visual integration of the garden with the architecture of the house and pool, brings coherence and depth, creating air and relaxation to this small space within the city.

In this home on the grounds of the Golf PGA de Caldes de Malavella we installed a photovoltaic system (8kW) to supplyenergy to the house. 1. Estructuras / Cerramientos Elemento clave para alcanzar el edificio passivo. Un edificio con estructura de madera permite reducir los puentes térmicos y acústicos, las emisiones de CO2 y es un recurso natural y sostenible. La velocidad de ejecución de la obra y el hecho de poder construir con producto de km0 son otras de las ventajas de este sistema constructivo. Construir con estructura ligera metálica, o steel fram, es otra opción óptima. Por otro lado, los cerramientos influyen considerablemente en el rendimiento global del consumo energético. Para cumplir con el estándar pasivo de baja demanda energética es necesario que se consiga la estanqueidad óptima y la durabilidad contrastada. Los mejores materiales para ello son la madera y el PVC.

Other advantages to this building system are speedy completion of building work and being able to build using Km0 materials. Building with a light metal frame or steel frame is another good option. To comply with the passive standard of low energetic demand, it is necessary to achieve optimum watertightness and proven durability. The best materials for this are wood and PVC.

En las últimas ediciones de las Ferias de Milán, Stocco presentó “Tailormade”, una serie de catálogos con colecciones orientadas al diseño. Hablamos de un producto atamente customizable, aquí el producto estándar no existe. Los proyectos son creados a medida, para cada requerimiento del interiorista. Estas colecciones son hechas a medida. Ofrecen la posibilidad de trabajar con las últimas tendencias en materiales como “ Fenix” o “ HPL”. Una novedad en la manufactura es la terminación y estructura del amoblamiento como una sola pieza. Es muy liviano, el material empleado es “ Fénix” uno de los elementos en tendencia en los últimos años. Esto nos permite tener una colección que podemos desarrollar con un solo color. Estas colecciones son características de la marca, lo cual otorga una fuerte identidad. De esta manera logramos integrar los frontales con madera termo tratada y podemos combinar las diferentes superficies.

La obra artística de Duván se integra en la larga historia de la capilla de Sant Martí de Besalú, enriqueciendo una atmósfera para la reflexión universal. Para esta expresión semántica han sido empleados diferentes soportes: pinturas al óleo, impresiones digitales, esculturas de hierro y metacrilato. Hay actividades programadas a lo largo del año, desde un ciclo de conciertos a presentaciones de arte y libros. La capilla puede ser visitada en horarios concertados. La rehabilitación fue impulsada por la Diputació de Girona y el ayuntamiento de Besalú. Decoraciones del siglo XV y XVI fueron identificadas, un testimonio abierto de la abundancia de elementos ornamentales en la Capilla. Las pinturas originales son de elaboración muy simple y su principal interés es que fueron hechas por artistas locales durante el período barroco. La restauración y el estudio de los restos pictóricos fue hecho por Oliver Mayer y Eulalia Solé.

Duvan’s art work integrates into the Sant Marti de Besalú chapel’s long history nurturing an atmosphere for universal reflection. Different supports have been employed in this semantic expression: oil paintings, digital prints, iron and methacrylate sculptures. There are cultural activities programmed throughout the year, from a concert cycle to book and art presentations. The chapel can be visited on an established time frame. The rehabilitation was made by the Diputació de Girona and the Besalú Town Hall XVth and XVIth century decorations have been identified, an open testimony of the abundance of ornamental elements in the chapel. The original paintings are very simple on their elaboration and their main interest is that they have been made by local artists during the baroque period. The restoration and the study of the pictorial rests was made by Oliver Mayer and Eulália Sole.

Gemma Nomen (Historiadora de Arte), lo define así: “Edgar Massegú sale de las cloacas para renacer, tal y como lo hacía el prisionero liberado de la caverna del mito de Platón. Sus piezas están atravesadaspor la luz y se convierten en un vehículo que nos proyecta las sombras, las cuales realizan su propio recorrido. Nos cuestiona cual es la obra original y cual es la copia, un juego que encontramos constantemente en su Casa Museo. Los trazados de las sombras devienen obras de la exposición, las cuales, condicionadas por a luz, tienen un carácter totalmente efímero metáfora de lo efímero de la vida. La colocación de las piezas, las bombillas y cada uno de los elementos que forman parte de su Casa Museo han estado calculados y pensados por el artista.

Gemma Nomen (Art Historian), defines it as follows: “Edgar Massegú emerges out of the sewers to be reborn, just like the prisoner freed from the cavern in Plato’s myth. His pieces are traversed by light, becoming a vehicle that projects shadows onto us, which then make their own journey. He asks us to question which is the original work and which is the copy, a game that we encounter constantly in his House Museum. The shadow’s traces become works in the exhibition, which, conditioned by the light, have a totally ephemeral character, a metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life. The placement of the pieces, the light bulbs and each of the elements that are part of his House Museum have been carefully planned and thought through by the artist.

Todas las piezas, de grandes dimensiones, están en la línea del “Arte Povera”, realizadas con materiales encontrados y reciclados y con conexiones con el arte urbano. Entre las influencias encontramos a Antonio Tàpies, con el uso de material de desecho y la mezcla de técnicas, de quien Edgar conserva una dedicatoria en la Casa Museo. Marcel Duchamp también está presente, con su afán por los juegos de palabras y por sacralizar objetos, tal y como lo hace Edgar, con cierto espíritu dadaísta, en el “Lunar System”, realizado con las tapas de ollas empleadas en su cocina. La alusión al universo es una constante en las piezas expuestas en su Casa Museo. Encontramos representación de satélites “ la gran chatarra que colocan en el cielo para controlarnos”. O bombillas que recrean una constelación inventada. Entre las piezas expuestas encontramos la ganadora del concurso internacional ” Miradas” 2021, Google Eye. Se trata de una simbólica cámara de vigilancia que nos define la actual época pandémica, donde corremos el peligro de ser más vigilados que nunca. La crítica al capitalismo y a la sociedad de consumo siempre están presentes, así como la reivindicación del medio ambiente, motivo por el cual también hace una crítica a la cacería, en la línea de la canción “L´Os Bru” de Pulpo Pop. La creación le sirve para manifestar injusticias y para mostrar aquello que más le indigna. Posiblemente este anhelo es uno de los motores que le conduce a producir a un ritmo tan frenético”. All large scale pieces are in the lineage of “Arte Povera”- made out of found and recycled materials, also connected to urban art. In his use of waste materials and a mixture of techniques, we see the influence of Antonio Tapies, a dedication from whom Edgar keeps in the House Museum. Marcel Duchamp is also present, with his eagerness for puns and for making objects sacred, as Edgar does, with a certain Dadaist spirit, in the “Lunar System”, made from the lids of pots used in his kitchen. An allusion to the universe forms a constant in the exhibited pieces in the House Museum. We find representations of satellites “the big junk that they place in the sky to control us”. Or light bulbs that recreate an invented constellation. Among the exhibited pieces we find Google Eye, the winner of the 2021 international competition “Miradas”. It’s a symbolic surveillance camera, a defining symbol of the current pandemic era, where we run the risk of being watched more than ever. A critique of capitalism and consumer society are ever present, as well as the reaffirmation of the environment, the reason for which he also criticizes hunting, along the lines of the song “L’Os Bru” by Pulpo Pop. Creativity enables him to reveal injustices and to show what outrages him the most. Perhaps this longing is one of the engines that drives him to produce at such a frenetic pace”.
