Welcome from Deputy Director Parks, Recreation & Culture Tara Fotsch

Welcome to your 2023 Summer Activity Guide! If you are interested in getting fit, taking your kids to Chimney Park Pool, floating the Riverwalk at Eastman Park, enrolling in a nature program, taking in a free concert at Boardwalk Park or the Saturday Farmer’s Market, you will find it with Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture. With summer right around the corner, there is something for everyone in the family.

Come and make a splash with us at Chimney Park Pool and take advantage of the great pool pass options and swim lessons, rent a tube, and spend the day floating the Riverwalk Experience at Eastman Park or rent a paddleboard at Windsor Lake. If water isn’t for you, be sure to take part in the sounds of music with our Thursday night Concert Series, a movie in the park, our enhanced Farmer’s Market every Saturday at Boardwalk Park or enjoy one of our many Special Events as we stroll through summer.

Want to learn about Windsor’s history? Be sure to check out the Windsor History Museums and learn about our community’s past. Enjoy the Young at Art exhibition at the Art & Heritage Center or enjoy one of the mini exhibits coming to the Community Recreation Center. Don’t forget to sign up for one of the new Mini Camps hosted by the Museum Team - from cooking to nature programs there is something for everyone!

For sports enthusiasts, we have a great variety of programming for our Adults this summer with Backyard Games to 4 vs 4 Grass Volleyball Leagues and summer Basketball, Softball and Kickball Leagues. We will be offering a series of one day tournaments. Dust off your sneakers and come join us for some fun! If you’re one of our more seasoned residents, our Active Adult programs provide activities from pickleball to fitness classes to Mahjong in the Senior Activity Room to many great local travel opportunities. Make sure you sign up for a great meal with our Friendly Fork Café which is served Monday through Friday.

The hum of construction equipment will soon end as we gear up to cut the ribbon at Harmony Ridge Park early this summer. We hope that you will also find the time to stop by the new playgrounds at Boardwalk Park and Covenant Park.

Want to enjoy the beautiful outdoors? As you can see, the summer is packed with exciting options for everyone and that includes an amazing park and trail system for all to enjoy! Be sure to check out some of our 52 miles of paved trails and 5 miles of soft trails to ride, walk and explore along with one of our 27 parks that await for you to enjoy this summer.

Wherever this summer takes you, I hope our Parks, Recreation & Culture system can help you enrich your adventures and support the health and wellness of our community.

Catch a float at the Eastman Park River Experience!

Tube rentals are available for an affordable daily price. This outdoor experience features a dedicated float launch and take-out area, a scenic river plaza that provides river access for general water enjoyment, picturesque views of the Cache la Poudre River and Longs Peak, and an amazing hangout spot to picnic or soak in the sun.

COMMUNITY RECREATION CENTER 250 N. 11th St. 970-674-3500 | recreationliveshere.com/July4th | @windsorPRC

Ever wonder what it means to be a Tree City USA?

This award sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters is presented to cities and towns across the nation that emphasize the value of trees within their communities. Windsor achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: forming a tree board or department, creating a tree-care ordinance, having an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

The Mayor will proclaim April 21, 2023 as Arbor Day for the Town of Windsor. This will be Windsor’s 42nd consecutive year as a Tree City USA. Town of Windsor staff and the Windsor Tree Board will celebrate Arbor Day with students at Tozer Primary School, April 21, 2023 from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. On Saturday, April 22nd the annual tree sale will be held at the Public Service Facility where unique trees will be available for pick up from presale orders.

Trail Ridge Road and Granby Lunch

Covering the 48 miles between Estes Park on the park’s east side and Grand Lake on the west, Trail Ridge Road more than lives up to its advanced billing. Eleven miles of this high highway travel is above the tree line where the elevation is near 11,500 feet and the park’s evergreen forests come to a halt. As it winds across the tundra’s vastness to its high point at 12,183 feet elevation, Trail Ridge Road (U.S. 34) offers visitors thrilling views, wildlife sightings and spectacular alpine wildflower exhibitions, all from the comfort of their car. We’ll make a stop in Granby for lunch and a bit of window shopping before retracing the route home.

Leadville Train Ride

Originating in “the highest incorporated city in North America,” the LC&S takes passengers along the old Denver, South Park & Pacific and Colorado & Southern lines to the Continental Divide. But, as the old adage states, “It’s not the destination, but the journey that’s important.” This journey is full of breath-taking panoramas across the Arkansas River Valley and humorous narratives about Leadville’s colorful past. Mining and railroading were a large part of the local history, and passengers will find it easy to step back in time on the Leadville, Colorado & Southern. So, just sit back and enjoy the ride! Note: There will be a stop for lunch before the train ride.

Swim Lessons

World’s Largest Swim Lesson

The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™, created by the World Waterpark Association in 2010, is a global public relations event supported by aquatic facilities, waterparks, pools, swim schools, YMCA’s, among others. The 2023 World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ will take place on Thursday, June 22nd. This will be the 14th year for the global event and TEAM WLSL™ will continue with its goal of reaching more than one billion with the message Swimming Lesson Save Lives™. Come spend the afternoon creating art! This four-day art camp is taught by instructor Beth Hay, an art teacher for Weld RE-4. In this art camp, students will explore a variety of media, including: drawing, painting, watercolor, printmaking, clay, wire, pastels, and paper collage. Students will be able to create 2-3 art projects each day while learning a variety of art skills. This class is for all levels of artists. We will take a break halfway through the camp, so bring water and a snack! Come be creative and enjoy a week of making art and meeting new friends.
