Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture • Fall 2022 | 3

Welcome from Deputy Director Parks, Recreation & Culture

Tara Fotsch

Welcome to your 2022 Fall Activity Guide! We are excited to offer a full range of enriching programs and events for all Windsor residents and visitors this Fall. We invite you to try our new and returning activities, special events, sports leagues and more. This Fall, we plan to begin the construction of Harmony Ridge Park, located on Gosler Drive in the Harmony Ridge Neighborhood. Head out to the new and improved Archery Range located off of Hwy 257 and Poudre Trail Drive – you are going to love the new features that we have added. We will also be installing new playgrounds at Boardwalk Park and Covenant Park this Fall. We can’t wait for you to enjoy your new amenities. More than ever, we are aware of the health benefits of spending time outdoors in our beautiful parks, connecting with others and pursuing recreation activities that refresh and energize us. Here are a few suggestions from us for a few things to try out this Fall. · Take a walk on one of our many trails and catch the changing colors. · Head to the Halloween Carnival held at the Windsor History Museums · Take a Twilight tour of Lakeview Cemetery · Become a naturalist and join us for our Bio Blitz event at Eastman Park · Enroll in one of our many special interest classes held at the Community Recreation Center or the at the Museums. We look forward to continuing to build community and provide exceptional recreational experiences for you and your families. Tara Fotsch, CPRE Deputy Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture

Windsor’s Kodak Archery Range Colorado Parks and Wildlife awarded a $100,000 grant to Windsor’s Kodak Archery Range. These funds are being used to expand the existing range, establish a 3D archery course and provide additional parking and site improvements. We plan to continue to offer archery classes for youth and adults while also being able to expand in our offerings with league nights, clubs, and tournaments / events.

While the Civil War raged in the East, the U.S. Army continued to grapple with its oldest foe, the American Indians, in the West. Along the Oregon route in Wyoming in early 1862, Native American tribesmen, disturbed by the increasing presence of Euro-Americans and perhaps emboldened by a spatially dispersed enemy, stepped up their resistance. As a result, the mails as well as many wagon trains were detoured to a new road south. This tour outlines the military presence in the Cache la Poudre River valley and its significance to the Indian Wars and westward migration movement. Learn too, about Army life on the frontier and how this remote outpost named Camp Collins spawned the later foundation of its namesake town.

Boasting such classic songs as “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “The Rain in Spain,” “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” and “On the Street Where You Live,” My Fair Lady tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a young Cockney flower seller, and Henry Higgins, a linguistics professor who is determined to transform her into his idea of a “proper lady.” But who is really being transformed? Note: Dinner is on your own, Downtown Denver, before the show.

One of Denver’s most anticipated events, Zoo Lights, which is a great opportunity for folks of all ages to enjoy the holidays or kick off the New Year with family, friends and colleagues, is back and bigger than ever. Is your preschooler showing signs of artistic creativity? At Young Rembrandts Preschool Drawing, preschoolers will explore the world of drawing. This class will foster creativity and jumpstart art skills. This fall, your preschooler will fall in love with our lessons. Just like the rainbow, our youngest artists will create in the month of September; we will cover a colorful and patternrich spectrum of subjects. We’ll soak in the warm colors of the sun as we draw a radiating sun face and we’ll be careful not to get tangled up in our patterned spider web we draw in October! With the coming of the winter months, we will draw and celebrate with a nutcracker that takes his job very seriously. All these (and may more exciting lessons!) while we enhance our fine-motor skills, learn to stay on task and follow directions, and learn skills so critical in the classroom! Outdoor Education Flock-Watchers Birding Club - 345642

Preschool Open Gym

Come join the Town of Windsor Museums’ brand-new club, all about bird-watching! This fall, Flock-Watchers will provide the community with a chance to walk the trails and watch the skies for exciting sightings together. Our meetings will provide curious minds the opportunity to learn from experienced birders about identification, and hear about new citizen science projects available to help our feathered friends. It is also a chance to add to your species count and compare it with others who also have a passion for birding! Flock-Watchers is free and fun for all ages and experience levels, from those who have never been birding to those who have pursued this hobby for years! Binoculars are recommended, but we will provide field guides and identification materials. This program is free, but advance registration is required to ensure your spot.

Play with your child on gym mats, toss beanbags, play catch, and more. This is a drop-in program, no registration necessary. An adult must accompany every child or family of children. A ratio of at least one adult for every three children is required. Parent participation throughout the program is required.
