Tips for a Safe and Fun Halloween

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that Halloween is consistently one of the top three days for pedestrian injuries and fatalities. Children in dark costumes are harder to see at night, posing an additional potential road hazard. Here are some tips from the Windsor Police Department to keep everyone safe this Halloween.

Motorists

• Be especially alert during trick-or-treating hours, which are typically between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.

• Slow down in residential areas and look for children crossing the street at intersections and between vehicles.

• Turn your headlights on so children can see your vehicle more easily.

Parents

• Make sure children under 12 years old are supervised by a responsible adult or older sibling.

• Instruct children to travel only in familiar areas and along established routes.

• Teach children to stop only at well-lit houses and to never enter a stranger’s home or garage.

• Establish a time for children to return home.

• Remind children to stay on sidewalks, watch for vehicles and only cross streets at the corner.

With these tips in mind, everyone can have a safe and fun Halloween.

Water Utility Customers Eligible for Rebate when Recycling Yard Waste Responsibly

Windsor residents are encouraged to take advantage of the town’s yard waste rebate program, where eligible Windsor Utility (water, sewer and stormwater) customers can receive a one-time annual rebate of up to $10 for the recycling of organic yard waste materials such as grass, leaves, branches and brush.

Utility customers have the option of recycling yard waste with businesses such as A1 Organics in Eaton or Ewing’s in Fort Collins. Residents must have proof of residency, purchase and organic material must be recycled with a legitimate organic yard waste center to qualify for the rebate.

Completed applications can be dropped off during regular business hours or mailed to Windsor Town Hall located at 301 Walnut St. For more information and to download the rebate application, visit windsorgov.com/YardWasteRebate
