La Dolce Lingua The second edition of La Dolce Lingua is dedicated to our sweet Eve Luik, who has been with us more than 10 years. She is like a true cinderella, who can be sweet, sad, tender and rigid at the same time. Soon it's her birthday - so keepin mind that she loves birthday surprises!

loves Hammock In summer you cannot meet me in town. I try to be somewhere by sea – for example visiting my friends in Saaremaa or somewhere in nature. I spend most of the time in my hometown Elva. It’s got fresh, healthy pine air. Behind my house, there’s a small pine forest and this spring I put a hammock there. With a book, I hide myself in the hammock and enjoy the scents of pine, moss and cones. A gaze into the sky. The pine branches are strangely all in one direction, into the south.

Done! Two days before an exam all the material had to be learned, it gave one spare day to revise some topics. You are always short of one day! Till now I fix a date for myself which is not the right due date of a project. It is usually a couple of days earlier. I try very hard to observe this date. In a way, I’m fooling myself.

Volleyball Why did I become a teacher, not, for example, an athlete? My coach called me Flower because I don’t have this passionate desire to fight which is needed for an athlete. I did just as much as was needed in the game and not more and the coach used to say that I petted the opponent although I was able to do more. I’m not an athlete of individual sports. I prefer to be a member of a team which has a common aim. Books In the spring mu friend went to the Literary Festival HeadRead and told me about William Boyd. I saw an interview with him on ETV 2 and that inspired me to read his books. Now I’m reading his book “Ordinary Thunderstorms” and on a table there’s another book waiting its turn – it’s ''The Blue Fox'' by an Icelandic writer Sjón. This book has been translated into Estonian as well but I prefer to read it in English. In winter I’ve got more work and then I cannot read so much. During the day I communicate with a lot of people so that in the evening I’m not able to take in more information.

Birthday in August I like when a birthday is turning out without great plans. I like when friends call me and wish a happy birthday and ask what I am doing this day … and then come to visit me. Spontaneity ensures enjoyable and free atmosphere. Teaching In the beginning I thought that everyone has to understand me in the same way. But in fact, I have to adapt myself according to a student. You learn to know a person and learn together – of course different things. This is the cooperation between a teacher and a student, or creating. It’s nice to have positive feedback, and sometimes this happens unexpectedly. High spirits purchases There is a store Frida&Lonni in Rüütli Street, Tartu. I sometimes pop in the store when I want to make a high spirits purchase – for example a scented candle or another small lovely thing.

Idleness I am conscience-stricken when I’m idling away. But, one has to idle away and do nothing. I become alarmed ... I want to meet people ... go and do something! Still, sometimes one has to do nothing. I think that all people feel similarly, a person cannot remain idle for a long time. Eating My body sometimes tells me that it doesn’t want unhealthy food. I have sudden desires to eat something special. I may not eat chocolate for a long time. Several months. But then one night I have such a desire for chocolate that I can eat the whole bar. And then it’s OK. But if I don’t have cheese in the fridge, I don’t have anything to eat. I can never give up cheese! My special favourite is frying cheese and ciabatta. Music Emeli Sande

Grasping with eyes One film that always cheers me up is ''A Good Year'' (2006). Such an enjoyable film. I watch it again and again. The latest pleasant experience was a three-part English serial Parade's End which I saw on TV. I enjoyed the acting of Benedict Cumberbatch and Rebecca Hall – I really liked it. For the whole week I was waiting for a sequel. I certainly love British crime films, both the actors and the language. I’d like to study myself ... When I teach at Studio Lingua in Tartu, I quite often look through glass walls into another classroom and ... would like to be the one who is sitting and listening to the teacher. Till now I unfortunately haven’t had an opportunity. I think Russian is the language I need to learn. Finland In Form 11 I was an exchange student in Finland. I didn’t know the Finnish language, I had only learned a bit at school. The aim was to make a speech for the whole school at the end of the school year. It was rather motivating! Surely it was hard time. I was homesick. But I remember the aromas ... you see, it was the year 1992 when there were no huge supermarkets in Estonia.

Travel Soon I’ll go to Madrid to visit my friend. It’s not the trip of dreams but I’d like to explore the city. But Asia is a place where I don’t want to go. Everybody is visiting Thailand and other Asian countries ... but evidently I’m not a fan of Asia.
