This issue is dedicated to extraordinary friends of art, philantrophy and nature. Dubai based Mr Wael Alteen prepared the cover-page of our special Tropical Travel Issue No 27, and we are very thankful that he helped us to make this cover-page possible and especially thanks to the responsible photographer, of the Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi resort that epitomize the spirit of this extraordinary place with its 10-million-year-old rainforest, while respecting the nature and its conditions. Nicole Warne is considered one of the leading digital influencers internationally, with an audience of over 2.3 million. Having established a successful e-commerce and digital business by the age of 20, Nicole has gone on to be one of the most sought after creatives in the digital space. Nicole has been recognized in the FORBES ‘30 Under 30’ and Business of Fashion’s ‘#BoF500: The People Shaping the Global Industry’ (2015, 2016, 2017). As a respected member of the global fashion community, Nicole was a guest judge for the inaugural Forbes ‘30 Under 30’ list (2019) and the Woolmark Prize (2017). She has also been the official presenter for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia twice, which was live- streamed globally, and made several television appearances, including Asia’s Next Top Model where she acted as a mentor and guest judge.

Nicole started her career as a fashion intern at Grazia and Harper’s Bazaar Australia whilst studying business at college and working full-time. After an inspiring trip toTokyo, she opened her e-bay store and blog, Gary Pepper Vintage, which sold vintage clothing and accessories and would be the stepping stones for her career trajectory. Nicole often cites her parents as her role models. Growing up with her two siblings, her parents would often start new businesses with a positive “What’s the worst that could happen?” attitude. This instilled in her a strong perseverance, independence and work ethic from an early age. When asked what inspires her she credits meeting her followers from around the world and being surrounded by nature. MAISON RAMI KADI HAUTE COUTURE Rami Kadi Couture Fall-Winter 2019-20 titled “The Temple Of Flora”, presented in Paris earlier this month during the Paris Hute Couture fashion week, is a masterfully executed collection of gowns and cocktail dresses, each hand crafted with an extreme degree of sharpness and a delicate savoir faire. Using paintbrush on floating organza to re-create the softens of petals and then ingeniously embellishing an accompanying bodice pieces with thousand of crystals, is reminiscent of the fresh dow that glistens on the flora in the early morning, Mr Rami’s couture collection is shining just as vibrantly emancipating women from the restraints of conventional associations with prettiness and delicacy.

Each piece all individually represents HU’s ongoing enthusiasm in music, culture, and nature, bringing the audience an eye-opening experience in art. M. Pascal Morand, Executive President of Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, also joined ANNA HU at the brand’s cocktail reception to congratulate her new collection and officially announce her as member of the Paris Haute Couture Committee.

Abu Dhabi based national airline of the United Arab Emirates - Etihad Airways, celebrated the deployment of its first Airbus A380 ‘Super Jumbo’ on its scheduled daily services to Seoul, South Korea, less than a year after upgrade to its state-of-the-art Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, in 2018. The occasion was marked with a spectacular ‘Abu Dhabi Night’ evening reception at The Shilla, Seoul’s most iconic landmark hotel, with the venue hosting a unique opportunity to showcase the two cultures, Korean and Emirati, coming together. The event was attended by leading figures from the local government, diplomats, media, corporate partners and the travel trade. To highlight the cosmopolitan nature of Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the UAE, and to promote cultural fusion between Emirati and Korean people, the evening featured a series of performances by Arabic and Korean artists, and also offered a tapestry of cuisines fusing the cultures together through taste. tihad Airways is preparing to launch seasonal flights between Abu Dhabi and the beautiful coastal city of Salalah, Southern Oman, in time for the region’s unique Khareef, or green season. Salalah is one of the few locations on the Arabian Peninsula that experiences a monsoon season, creating extensive vegetation growth and spectacular waterfalls throughout the coastal ranges, and delivering significantly lower temperatures than the rest of the Gulf Cooperation Council. Etihad will fly to Salalah four times per week between 2 July and 31 August, the peak of the green season. The flights, to be operated with two-class Airbus A320 aircraft, will depart Abu Dhabi at 8.05am each Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, arriving at 10.00am, and enabling guests to begin their break by early afternoon. Robin Kamark, Chief Commercial Officer, Etihad Aviation Group, said: “Salalah is one of the most soughtafter destinations in Oman, and Khareef is an amazing season in which to visit. The green mountains and flowing waterfalls are rare and beautiful in this region, and less than two hours flying time from Abu Dhabi. Our new seasonal flights provide a great opportunity to experience this extraordinary destination at one of the best times of the year, either for a short break or an extended period." The M.A.D.Gallery introduces “LINK”, a collection of powerful sculptures by Korean artist, Young-Deok Seo.

T

To reveal the complexities of the human character, Young-Deok shapes human figures through a meticulous and labo-rious process, using a very unconventional raw material: metal chain! According to the Seoul-based artist, connecting the harsh medium of metal chain with the softness of the human body conveys the power and fragility of man, during a time of chaotic industrialization. Depending on the size of the work, one sculpture takes months to complete, with the disassembling and reassembling of the chain and welding consuming the most time. The exhibition includes a line-up of five sculptures, each one expressing human emotions from peacefulness to perfect happiness: The thinker 300, Meditation 285, Anguish 23, Nirvana 37 and Meditation 130. Why is there a number in the title of each piece? That number is the length in meters of chain used to create the work. For example, The thinker 300 uses 300 metres of bike chain! MEDITATION 285 ANGUISH 23 NIRVANA 37 02 MEDITATION 130 Creation Process “One day, I came across a pile of metal chain dumped on the street,” Young-Deok describes the inspiration for his medium of choice, “It seemed a machine-like thing wriggling as if it had life. I felt like I was looking at a jerking human being lying on the street. At that moment, I thought I might make a human body with this chain, which might be the best material to describe entangled lives of contemporaries. So I started to learn welding techniques and tried to apply them to my artistic work.” In a workshop filled with welding equipment and plaster models, located in the suburbs of Seoul, Young-Deok and a team of ten dedicated artisans bring the sculptures to life. Imagine a noisy factory space with sparks cascading down from argon gas welding machines, with artisans binding chain together, cranes lifting larger than life sculptures, and equipment such as grinders, cutting tools, chemical products, and plaster throughout – this is a typical scene in the studio. “I enjoy to work alone at the workshop when everybody is gone for the day,” explains Young-Deok, “My artwork is more difficult with larger and more complex shapes and working alone I can solve the complexities easily.”
