‘space-time continuity’ Hauser & Wirth Zurich, Bahnhofstrasse 1 16 December 2021 – 22 January 2022

Hauser & Wirth’s new space on Zurich’s high street, Bahnhofstrasse 1 presents ‘space-time continuity’ exhibition that examines the dialogue between Max Bill, artist, designer, theorist, writer, curator and pedagogue, and a group of his contemporaries who explored similar territory to his own art and ideas. Many of the works on display are from Bill’s private collection, showing how he was at the very centre of the conversation to develop a radical new art. The artists featured in this exhibition alongside Max Bill include Josef Albers, Hans Arp, László Moholy-Nagy, Kurt Schwitters, Fritz Glarner and Sophie Taeuber-Arp amongst others.

The art in question can, perhaps, best be defined as the building up of significant patterns from the ever-changing relations, rhythms and proportions of abstract forms, each one of which, having its own causality, is tantamount to a law unto itself. As such, it presents some analogy to mathematics…" – Max Bill (1949) and three-dimensional works spanning from the 1940s to the 1970s. The exhibition offers a way to understand Bill’s own consistent journey as an artist in the context of an ongoing aesthetic conversation and exploration of form.

Art and the Continuum The title ‘space-time continuity’ refers to Bill’s as well as Vantongerloo’s engagement with mathematics, logic and physics, and with the crucial impact of Albert Einstein on their work, in particular Einstein’s Theory of Relativity (1915), which

explored the link between space and time. Building on his teacher Hermann Minkowski’s geometric interpretation of relativity, Einstein united the three spatial dimensions and the fourth dimension of time and introduced the idea of the spacetime continuum. Such a continuum was expressed by Bill and by Vantongerloo in a variety of materials, as they explored the possibilities of topological form and ideas of continuity and infinity in their work hauserwirth.com.

Max Bill’s contribution stems from the way we define and describe the art on view: the precise manner he approached the use of terms such as abstract, concrete, construction, non-objective; and the relationship between art, geometry, and mathematics. At the centre of the exhibition is an extraordinary, white marble sculpture by Bill, titled ‘konstruktion aus einem kreisring’ (Construction from a Ring) (1942), which is shown alongside twoTop right: Max Bill, acht flächen gleicher grösse (Eight Fields of Equal Surface), 1970-1971, oil on canvas, 120 x 120 cm, image: Georges Vantongerloo. ©2021 ProLitteris.

Until the 20th century, colour in Western, art was chiefly subordinated to line and form. Its emancipation in modern art came with the advent of movements such as impressionism, pointillism, fauvism, or the aptly named Blue Rider.

THE MOROZOV COLLECTION ICONS OF MODERN ART The Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris/online 22 September 2021 - 22 February 2022 Can’t visit the Fondation Louis Vuitton? The Fondation will come to you!

The highly anticipated exhibition, which is the second in the Icons of Modern Art series, has been delayed earlier. The length and impressive size of the exhibit are not impacted, however, by counting 200 master-pieces of modern French and Russian art, never before presented outside of Russia. It is an extraordinary event, even for the Fondation Louis Vuitton. Its Icons of Modern Art series debuted with the Shchukin Collection in 2016, which had nearly 1.3 million visitors.

art collection privately owned by Mikhaïl Abramovich Morozov (1870-1903) and his brother Ivan Abramovich Morozov (18711921), who dominated Moscow’s cultural life at the turn of the 20th century, in a competition to secure the most splendid artworks and names, in much the same way as the Tretyakovs, Mamontovs, Riabouchinskys and Shchukins did, on the advice of Parisian leading art dealers; Paul Durand-Ruel, Ambroise Vollard, Georges Bernheim, Eugène Druet, Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler - their art acquisitions led to the international reputation of modern French painters.

This time, the Foundation invites visitors to Paris and online to discover the invaluable universe of old master painters of the 19th and 20th centuries, led by Manet, Rodin, Monet, Pissarro, Lautrec, Renoir, Sisley, Cézanne, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Matisse, and Picasso. From the Russian art masters, the names of Repin, Vrubel, Korovin, Golovin, Serov, Larionov, and more, augment the sublimely refined

Creativity and competition Mikhaïl and Ivan Morozov's enviable collection of the world's greatest painters, that the brothers established during the radical movements in late 19th-century art, catalogues some of the period's most important artworks, such as Henri Matisse's, Still life with The Dance, (1909), where the artist cleverly inserts his signature painting motive as a background to the painting's central motive. This iconic masterwork was preceded by Matisse’s two earlier famous works; Dance which was already commissioned with its matching painting Music by the influential Russian collector Sergei Shchukin in 1909. Characterised by its simplicity and energy, this ecstatic bacchanalia left a lasting mark on 20th-century art. Dance was painted at the height of the Fauvism aesthetic and embodies the emancipation from Western art’s traditional conventions of representation.

Live Tours online with Louis Vuitton Given the public’s enthusiastic response to the Morozov Collection exhibition, since it opened on 22 September 2021, the Fondation offers even greater access to one of the world’s foremost collections of Impressionist and Modern art. The Fondation now offers live tours (a 360° online tour platform with real-time

commentary) of the exhibition and the iconic Frank Gehry-designed building in which it’s installed.

Still life with The Dance, does not only hold profound meaning in its composition, but it also demonstrates the context of its creation and how the artist surpasses himself for Ivan Morizov with a painting unlike any from his Dance series. The Morozovs and Russian art The Morozovs also collected a great deal of Russian art - nearly 400 paintings by the leading 19th-century painters such as the Realist, Symbolist, Impressionist, and Post-Impressionist movements such as Vrubel, Korovin, Golovin, Serov, Outkine,

as well as by Larionov, Mashkov, Konchalovsky, Saryan, and Konenkov. Artist Yusuke Akamatsu, all images all rights reserved.

Yusuke Akamatsu's universe adds colours to our hearts

Akamatsu, who was born in Japan, is passionate about addressing world challenges and social concerns so that we can think about them and take action.

In the presence of a culture, I combine it with inspiration that springs up, and I enjoy the works produced by that distance. It also means that the quality and content of the works will change from country to country. So for me, culture is a "palette". It is an essential item. MM: How is multiculturalism presented nowadays in art? Y. A.: I feel as if the current multiculturalism is being "tested". People should weed out the overflowing doctrines, to move on to the next step. Good things do change, they will remain for the posterity.

His painting "Dance of the Sun and Green" (right) will be donated to the Al Jalila Foundation, a non-profit healthcare organization esta-blished in Dubai dedicated to changing lives through medical education and research. MM: Being born in Japan, and today based in Paris, how much do different cultures influence your creating and artworks? Yusuke Akamatsu: I have been wandering around the world for the last 24 years. And in every country, I am part of the life of that country. This whyI feel close to its culture, even though I am a foreigner. And I only have very limited language skills, as I am a stranger. I constantly observe the culture of the country I live, and it inspires me. Once you get comfortable with a language, you start living as if you were in your own motherland. For me, it takes away the excitement. .

Yusuke Akamatsu,"Dance of the sun and green" (180 x 135 cm, Japanese paper).

Art is also a "dialogue". In that sense, like for other media, a new wave is taking place that is also "tested". Whether it is well expressed is a question for future generations to answer. MM: Your installations were displayed recently at the Saatchi Gallery in London. What are today's converging points in the contemporary art scene between London and Paris? Y. A.: Speaking of activities in 2021, I strongly felt that, in London, "expression is an interaction with entertainment". In Paris, I felt a “change within conservatism”, but was it “collapse?” or “birth?”. I believe Art is something unique and special, and it must be independent. In this sense, I see each as a “process of evolution." MM: You are the first filmmaker to produce a feature length movie entirely shot on an iPhone (‘Sheep That Cannot Sleep’ was released in 2011). What are the advantages of this medium and which other areas do you perceive of interest for you as an artist? Y. A.: I have created three artworks, of which some are experimental. I do everything by myself: director, scriptwriter, camera and editor. Using only an iPhone. I started this 10 years ago. At that time, no one recognized this as artwork, but now it is common practice.

Kazuo Nakamura, Nakamura Keith Haring Collection's Founder at Yamanashi (Japan), and Yusuke Akamatsu exchanging views.

MM: This year from the 23rd to the 24th January in Dubai, your art will be exhibited during the Royal Investment Summit, which is part of the global calendar of events titled Future Of Humanity. How is contemporary art linked to humanity today? Y. A.: I think art is a "mirror", a "dialogue partner", and "one of the ways" for human evolution. A work that we perceive full of life also gets the energy of the viewer, and it proves that life is shared between the works and their author. I think that people want to connect with art to feel their own vitality. Now, the world has an urge for such opportunity. Artists must be more vibrant to create and to connect with people. MM: How important is it for you as an artist to support philanthropic projects? Y. A.: For us artists, it is quite natural. We offer support for the sake of somebody or something, and this way we feel part of the world, and it is a good thing. www.yusukeakamatsu.com Yusuke Akamatsu's art exhibition takes place at The RitzCarlton, JBR, (UAE) during The Royal Investment Summit January 22-24, 2022.

Akamatsu draws with his fingers on the screen of his smartphone. Tokyo.

I will continue to create 'video' artworks using this method. Currently, I am working on two creations, which can be shown in museums and galleries. Another work will be screened in so-called movie theaters and distributed. The good point of this genre is that you can take advantage of the effects of time. And you can stage actors. My current interest is in the fusion of "my work" and "video".

I think art is a "mirror", a "dialogue partner", and "one of the ways" for human evolution."

Best watches in 2022 Part l

The MB&F's award-winning watch becomes bejewelled by Bulgari

The Bulgari Maison's fondnes for its love of cabochon-cut coloured gems, infuses the new models expressing Mediterranean warmth and exuberance. The new LM Flying T collection perfectly pairs the Roman exuberance with the Swiss radical design aesthetics that define MB&F's complex mechanical timepieces.

When MB&F first unveiled its Legacy Machine Flying T at Baselworld in 2019, the collection already had three models, ranging from the simplest with black lacquer dial plate, to the most opulent with an 18k white gold, case and dial plate fully set with diamonds.

Bulgari's bloom beneath MB&F's dome This unusual construction has a new case entirely redesigned by Bulgari, which should "give it a futuristic, UFOlike profile," according to the brand's notes, but this is difficult to judge from the images purely.

For each of the 20 + 20 timepieces composing the two rose and white gold limited editions, Bulgari’s jewellers have carefully selected tourmaline, tsavorite, rubellite, amethyst, tanzanite and topaz, in an exceptional composition forming a full circle around the movement. All images courtesy of MB&F, except leftimage © Bulgari, GPHG.

The new partner is Bulgari, who seems to have a difficult task, namely to improve MB&F's award-winning and first ever ladies' timepiece.

Legacy Machine Flying T The vertically-built movement—topped by a 60-second flying tourbillon—is designed in such a way that only its owner can read the time, with hours and minutes displayed at a 50-degree angle. The case-back reveals the sun-shaped oscillating weight, winding a barrel that ensures a generous 100-hour power reserve. A sapphire crystal dome tops it, beneath which one can admire the organic life of the movement.

Swiss-based horological concept laboratory and watchmaker MB&F unveils its second collaboration with fine jewellery house, and the first with Bulgari, after a successful project with Boucheron in 2010 - the so-called "JwlryMachine".

Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Anniversaire 5365 BREGUET, INVENTOR OF THE TOURBILLON celebrates 220th anniversary On June 26, 1801, Abraham-Louis Breguet secured a patent for his “watch compensating for all of the inequalities that may be found in the balance wheel and mainspring”. Breguet named his invention the “tourbillon” (or “whirlwind”) in line with the common practice at the time to use terms connected to astronomy. Exactly 220 years later, the House of Breguet is paying homage to its founder’s invention, in the form of the very limited Breguet Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Anniversaire 5365. This model available to 35 lucky collectors, the same number of tourbillon watches made during Abraham-Louis Breguet’s lifetime—is a heartfelt tribute to the timeless aesthetic and visionary genius of the master watchmaker. MAKE GLOBAL DEBUT AT VILLA D'ESTE

Following three years of research and development, RollsRoyce's utterly unique coach-built "Boat Tail" commission that integrates 100% bespoke BOVET timepieces made its global public debut at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on October 2, 2021 (Bovet models above). The accomplishment is something never realized before in either industry and was unveiled by Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, stating that "it is a truly historic moment for the marque. We are leading a modern coach-building movement that takes the wider luxury industry into an entirely different space, where hyper-personalisation and contemporary patronage provide essentially limitless possi-bilities." (left) Although it is not the first time cars and watches have joined forces, the collaboration required extraordinary engineering and coordination from both partners in order to integrate their components into a one-of-a-kind product. A long-time Rolls-Royce collector, Mr. Pascal Raffy, the owner of Bovet 1822, himself underlined his excitement "to have an opportunity to work on such a special bespoke project". Mr. Raffy’s connection to the motor world extends further, with the iconic Italian design house Pininfarina and the manufacturer, Automobili Pininfarina. In a post-pandemic world, we need to harness our values, embrace technology, build a resilient culture and way of thinking, and repurpose our wealth into sectors and changemakers that have the foresight for a stronger future. H. E. Sheikh Abdulaziz al Khalifa: We are witnessing a shift right now, with GCC Countries back on path to economic growth. We will list some trends here; we’ve seen an increased adoption of ESG policies, as we believe the Middle East is central to global ESG development. Corporates in the MENA region are ramping up their efforts to implement ESG frameworks and policies, and address their ESG impacts. In every part of the world, not just the GCC, there was an accelerated push of digital transformation in several sectors including retail and commerce, education, banking and financial services, and government office work which have shifted almost all their services to digital channels. We’ve also seen investments in the telecommunications frontier, which is a strategic investment sector for diversification. One prime example is Batelco; the leading integrated communications' provider establishing a presence in the FinTech world. MM: The Kingdom of Bahrain achieved becoming a digital economy and the region's FinTech hub. What led to this unique position? H. E. Sheikh Abdulaziz al Khalifa: The Kingdom's success within the FinTech ecosystem is due to having a forwardthinking and innovative financial regulator; the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB). The CBB has passed several key regulations in the country, including some like the open banking regulations, which became a requirement on 30 June 2019, the personal data protection law, investment limited partnership law, crowdfunding regulations in relation to equity-based, debt-based, and Shariah-based financing, and much more.

Bahrain is home to several incubators, accelerators, seed investors, and supporting organizations in Bahrain, including Flat6Labs, Brinc, C5 Accelerator and more, with plans to set up. MM: What is the advantage of the Kingdom of Bahrain's unique geographical position in the region when it comes to trade, business, and investment? H. E. Sheikh Abdulaziz al Khalifa: Bahrain’s central location makes it the gateway to the Middle East. The Kingdom is 30 minutes from Saudi Arabia; the region’s largest economy, and has the easiest and most direct access to all of the GCC’s airport hubs, with 1-hour flights from Bahrain International Airport. Despite its central position, world-class infrastructure, and its highly skilled bilingual local workforce; Bahrain's operating costs remain amongst the lowest in the Gulf. In early 2016, Bahrain created an action plan towards becoming a digital economy and the region’s FinTech hub. Since then, the Kingdom launched the region’s first Regulatory Sandbox and has passed more forward-thinking regulations for corporates and startups than any other country in the GCC. It has been acknowledged as the GCC’s financial capital, comprising 367 local, regional and global institutions. The financial industry is the largest non-oil contributor to Bahrain’s real GDP. In terms of ICT and transportation, Bahrain has a highly developed network and system, with over USD 32 billion in infrastructure and real estate developments that are in progress, which will create wide-reaching future opportunities for investors across sectors as they approach completion. Other factors include a high quality of life (was ranked fourth in terms of the cost of living in the Middle East), excellent educational institutions, healthcare and shopping facilities, and much more. In terms of foreign investment, unlike in some countries, investors in Bahrain can benefit from 100% foreign ownership in most sectors with no need for a local partner. There is active participation of the private sector in industry activities, flexible financing mechanisms are available for projects; and much more.

After defeating the Persians, who had conquered these Arabian islands, in the Battle of Zubarah (in Qatar), July 23rd, In 1783, the Arabian Sheikh Ahmed bin Muhammad Al-Khalifa (1783–1795), born in Kuwait and known as Al Fateh, the Conqueror, founds his dynasty and begins to rule the country.

At present, the King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa (Emir from 1999 to 2002 and King since then) has managed to make Bahrain a prosperous, peaceful, and happy Kingdom, where modernity, international cultures and people from around the world have blended with Arabian traditions. All these framed in a diverse economy, that has developed, in addition to oil, other industries such as construction, tourism, finance and many others, attracting capital from all over the world. By Dr Ludwig Nolte-Blanque

Since then, the Al-Khalifa dynasty has ruled Bahrain, first as Hakim (lord or ruler) from 1783 to 1971, then as Emir (prince) from 1971 to 2002, and finally as King since 2002. In 1932, the archipelago’s economy, based mainly on pearl diving, was radically transformed to oil exploitation under the rule of Hakim Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa (1932–1942), the great grandfather of the current king.

The Lady Behind The Curtain,

an interview with Isabel Jiménez Chairwoman MVD Invest Group S.A. and Sr. Advisory Consultant at The Private Office of H.E. Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Duaij bin Khalifa al Khalifa

A low-key figure, Ms. Isabel Jiménez prefers to stay largely out of the spotlight, although she has received media attention and accolades over recent years thanks to her involvement in several trade and investment deals and philanthropic activities.

MoralModa: Low-key personalities are strong or not? Isabel Jiménez: This is due to the fact that we live in a society that increasingly prizes overconfidence and exuberance, and we can easily be confused. Maintaining a low profile does not intimidate people, and it can also be beneficial in the workplace. Being a private person has no negative connotations.

Isabel Jiménez

M.M.: How do you split your time between Panama City, Barcelona, and Monaco? I. J.: I’ve been in Monaco now for almost two years. Before that, I lived practically everywhere – I was in Spain for school, Geneva for university, back home to Barcelona for a bit, then went to France and Panama City, where I have resided for the past 12 years. I consider myself to be a true global citizen, and I enjoy traveling throughout the world. As with many of us, COVID-19 reminded me of what truly matters in life. In March of last year, I escaped to Monaco to be closer to my parents and sister, who live in Madrid. So now I spend summers in Monaco and split my time in the winter between Panama and the Caribbean. My life does not revolve around work, and I have the luxury of being able to take care of my business from wherever I am in the world.

M.M.: You've had a long and successful international career as an entrepreneur. What motivates you? I. J.: I founded my first company when I was 28, which was a translation agency specializing in finance and legal affairs. Thanks to all I did and learnt at SLS International, I was later able to join and invest in Milengo, a multilingual services provider with offices in 16 countries, which became one of the world’s top 100 language service providers. In parallel with this, I started investing in residential real estate in South America and am working on a few trade deals all over the world. I am involved in a few projects now. I have always had a very enterprising spirit, and I love learning. When you do what you love and you love what you do, it does not feel like work. And I have always surrounded myself with a great team and those whom I trust, and asked for advice or guidance when necessary. M.M.: What is your role in the Private Office of H. E. Sheikh Abdulaziz Bin Duaij Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa? I. J.: I represent the Pacific Rim Business Council (PRBC) in Europe, and the Pacific Rim Chamber of Commerce for the MENA region, which has led me to many key interactions. Last year, the Private Office got in touch with me to explore synergies between our organizations and H.E. told me about the upcoming Royal Investment Summit, taking place in Dubai from January 22-24, 2022. We realized that we share many values and principles, and I was offered the opportunity to collaborate as a Senior Advisory Consultant. It is a real pleasure and great honor to work on the upcoming Summit, and to accelerate the organization's presence in the GCC countries, especially in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the UAE. M.M.: You are often seen attending art events, supporting many different kinds of artists and musicians, organizing philanthropic events, I. J.: If I hadn’t conducted business, I would be an artist, a singer, or a dancer... a sort of Lady Gaga (smile). My love for art and music has been a huge part of my life. I have a very creative side, which is quite fulfilling and meaningful to me. And I love being surrounded by artists, watching the world through their eyes. When I am creative, I feel I am living more fully than I have during the rest of my life.

“When I am creative, I feel I am living more fully than during the rest of my life.”

Last year, during the first lockdown, I supported two Dutch musicians to promote a classical music CD that was distributed for free to care homes and hospitals. Now I am collaborating with a Japanese digital finger painter, Yusuke Akamatsu to spread his message and make his great artwork well-known all over the world. Yusuke is a very talented and humble artist and a very inspiring human being. Their Excellencies Sheikh Abdulaziz and Sheikha Emanuela are great supporters of arts and culture, and they have kindly allowed Mr. Akamatsu to exhibit his unparalleled artwork during the upcoming Royal Investment Summit, for which I am extremely grateful. M.M.: Your clear passion and contagious enthusiasm are inspiring as well. What other similar projects have you planned for 2022? I. J.: In 2022 I am quite excited about collaborating with the Future For Humanity Foundation (FFH). FFH is hosting a series of events internationally which will bring together the best of entertainment, music, media, sports, industry and impact with a focus on solving the world’s greatest

challenges and the UN’s Global Goals. Together with Melinda Woolf, the Foundation’s visionary and Founder, and an equally passionate team, we are going to bring together our network of celebrities, global leaders, ambassadors, top scientists, award winning recording artists and the brightest minds of our time with the goal of not just raising awareness, but also create the action as impact solutions. Our group is planning event in several cities and countries, including New York, California, Monaco, Bahrain, London, Ras al-Khaimah, etc. We are updating the FFH website at www.futureforhumanity.org with the latest news and event schedule. It's all about people and incorporating the culture into the vision of the event." - Neil Greene, CEO of JABOY Productions.

The JABOY Productions hosts ELITE Global Leader’s Conference

in Rome and Vatican, October 21-24 2021 The ELITE Global Leader’s Conference is a private forum exclusively organised by family offices for family offices, ultra elite private investors, prominent impact leaders and business owners as well as royal family members and international icons like artists and athletes. During the most recently held conference, JABOY Productions invited bussines leaders to some of the top destinations in the world; Mexico City, Beverly Hills, Panama, Montreal and now Rome and the Vatican. Neil Greene, CEO of JABOY Productions, said, "It's all about people and incorporating the culture into the vision of the event. We try to bring people together to the best places in the world." This exclusive event held at the Westin Excelsior Rome with a special session held at the Collegio Teutonico in the Vatican City named "The Code to the Metaverse" introduced guests and viewers connected online from China and the rest of the world,

David Fergusson is a corporate finance leader and an expert on the impact of technology on business, government and humankind. Mr. Moreira is a multi-award winning technology pioneer, an active leader and member of several institutions and organizations focused on the advancement of technological innovation and the preservation of human identity. This exclusive, invitation only event, hosted by Neil Greene, CEO and Chairman of JABOY Productions, headquartered in California, US, and part of the ELITE Global Leader’s Conference held in Rome, October 21-24, brought financial, philanthropic, spiritual and business leaders together in the Vatican to discuss The Code and the steps we must collectively take to create the future we most desire. The highlight of the Vatican part of the programme was the joint lecture by co-authors of the bestselling book and forthcoming CNBC TV series - “The transHuman Code” David A. Fergusson and Carlos Moreira (2019). Fergusson and Moreira explore in the book how to maintain the most harmonious relationship between technology and humanity for the advancement of social equality. Both authors are respected speakers; Fergusson is an expert on the subjects of financial services and corporate transformation and social innovation and speaker at prominent educational institutions including Cambridge, Columbia, Harvard.

into a dialogue around keeping the relationship between technology and humanity harmonious. The core of this forward-looking initiative led by co-authors of the book "The transHuman code" David A. Fergusson and Carlos Moreira, is that of maintaining the human species at the centre of technological evolution in a continuously changing world (image above). To do so, a code is needed, and bringing together leaders from different industries could only lead to establish an interactive dialogue and a collaborative approach to make sure the foundation is established. Both authors are respected speakers,

The Vatican day was just one of many highlights during the 4 day event that celebrated once again the savoir-faire and the culture of its host country and the eternal city, which in October set the stage for theRome International Film Festival and G20 Summit, too.

Culturally rich investment summit The Rome conference included sessions on risk management, family governance, opportunity zones, cyber security, philanthropy, and other investing and tax strategies. "The people who are included in this conference include those from private offices, sponsors like venture capitals, private equity, real estate

celebrities, professional athletes", added Neil Greene. Highlighting the Rome event's general theme 'Dolce Vita', and the continuity of family businesses, JABOY Productions has organised a range of private events with homegrown Italian brands like Bulgari, Armani, Valentino.

The corporate world embraces impact investment Equally, the speakers have put an emphasis on the impact investment and the future and future generations. A topic that was emphasized at the Vatican part of the programme, where Princess Jahnavi Kumari Mewar, Executive Director of JPM Capital also participated. In a conversation with Moralmoda Magazine, Princess Mewar reflects that although her family office strategy doesn't fit the standard definition of impact investing, she still allows for thinking along the lines of common growth, (e.g. when it comes to investments focused in the real estate space), and would pair this with her Foundation work to invest in local schools and create opportunity for children. Another interesting case of investment that leads to long term impact is highlighted by Gary Bechtel, CEO of Red Oak Capital Holdings, (left) LLC, who said:

We operate a series of funds in the US, raising and deploying into loans of 1-2 years on income producing real estate, such as office buildings, shopping centers, multifamily complexes, industrial buildings, etc. These loans are generally made for the acquisition and rehabilitation of these properties. Because of their short-term, these loans are commonly referred to as bridge loans, and we are one of few national platforms that operate within the small balance space, i.e. loans of $1-15mio USD loan sizes. We have done a number of properties and projects with an emphasis on the social aspect in terms of rehabilitating properties, typically in multifamily, and those properties are then occupied by low income renters in underserved communities within the US. We have done a number of projects in the Washington D.C. and Chicago area, and we are working to continue to expand into other markets as well. We are in process of rolling out a program where for every loan that we fund, we would donate money to an organization in the US working with reforestation." adds Gary Bechtel (left), in an interview for Moralmoda, elaborating how his team is implementing Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) initiatives. Richard Stockton, CEO and President of Braemar Hotels (right), representing the hospitality industry emphasized that his properties take sustainable practices very seriously, and he provides examples energy saving steps that his properties implement. The focus is on everything that "has to do with smart technology, in guest rooms and staff areas." he added. The event reaffirmed a strong dedication at all levels and across all sectors to support growth that will lead to sustained practices. By Estelle Arielle Bouchet The Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, in collaboration with the Dallas Museum of Art, will display 'Cartier and Islamic Art: In Search of Modernity' from October 21st, 2021 through February 20th, 2022. This large exhibition shows the influence of Islamic Art on the high jewellery of Maison Cartier in its design of jewellery and precious objects from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. More than 500 pieces including jewellery and objects from the Cartier Collection, private and public loans, masterpieces of Islamic art, drawings, books, photographs and archival documents, trace the origins of the jeweller’s interest in Oriental motifs. The exhibition is part of a series of eighteen iconic exhibitions featuring the arts of Islam, across the country. As a result, the French Ministry of Culture hopes to emphasize the historical linkages between Judeo-Christianism and Islam throughout Europe through this program. A Saladin chandelier, an antique marble mausoleum from Algeria, and an ivory olefont from the eleventh century are among the items on display. Exhibitions across the country From Andalusian Islamic art to Mauresque influence in various French cities, the different exhibitions highlight the nec plus ultra of Islamic Arts in different variations and approaches to the subject. The following cities are planning exhibition events, Angoulême, Blois, ClermontFerrand, Dijon, Fiejac, La Réunion, Nancy, Marseille, Paris, Nantes, Narbonne, Rennes, Rilleux la Pape (Rhône near Lyon), Rouen, Saint Denis, Toulouse and Tourcoing.

Cartier's heritage and Islamic design Commenting on Cartier's important exhibition Francesca Cartier Brickell, author of The Cartiers (2020) stated, 'The Persian style,’ my grandfather Jean-Jacques Cartier once explained to me, ‘was the purest influence on the Cartier style.’ As a child, he had missed his parents on their many trips to India and the Middle East, but those long voyages abroad had given his father, Jacques, the seeds of inspiration to create a new style of jewellery. Gübelin Jewellery unveils spectacular Dancing Dunes haute joaillerie necklace

The iconic Swiss family-owned brand pairs aesthetic sophistication in design with ethical sophistication in the sourcing of gemstones. After the launch of the highly praised Aurora collection that was a homage to Sri Lanka with the exquisite and rare Padparadscha sapphires, Gübelin Jewellery turns to South America for inspiration with extraordinary Brazilian emeralds and a highlight gemstone of 4.11 ct (90.1 Gübelin Points) adorning the Dancing Dunes necklace.

From the Gübelin Jewellery Atelier in Lucerne Over 500 hours were spent by skilled goldsmiths, gem setters, and polishers on this High Jewellery necklace, which was created in the company's own Gübelin Jewellery atelier in Lucerne. The design of the Dancing Dunes is inspired by dunescapes in Lençóis Maranhenses.

Dancing Dunes is set with 460 individual gems in total; hereof 75 Brazilian emeralds totalling 21.18 ct, along with brilliant cut diamonds from RJC-certified sources weighing a combined 6.98 ct. A ruby (that adorns every piece from Gübelin Jewellery) originated in Greenland.

The sparkling emeralds in a clever combination of shapes unite the two rows of diamonds in the ring, which are set with 75 Brazilian emeralds (21.18 ct) and white brilliant cut diamonds weighing a total 6.98 ct. The cabochon-cut emeralds, step-cut emeralds, and round, faceted emeralds chosen for this necklace are amazingly varied, but share one thing in common: they were all sourced from the same mine in Brazil. The diamonds and precious metals are from RJC-certified sources too.

Gübelin's superior transparency Thanks to the Emerald Paternity Test, it can be determined that the 4.11 ct emerald was mined at Belmont in Itabira, Minas Gerais. While nanolabels invisible to optical microscopes have been applied to the emerald crystal in order to offer more transparency regarding its origin, gubelin.com.

VOLUPTUOUS BOREALIS CUFF WATCH 18K white gold cuff watch set with baguette-cut emeralds, baguette-cut diamonds and brilliant-cut diamonds. Diamond paved dial. Piaget manufacture 56P quartz movement. Unique creation.

Tourmaline has one of the widest colour ranges of any gem species, occurring in various shades of virtually every hue. Without equal, the combination of tone and saturation of green is particularly prized. Great care is needed during cutting to maximize both beauty and depth of colour. All of these characteristics, in addition to their impressive size, necessitate collaboration between nature and man, making the full suite of tourmalines utilized in the Glowing Lanterns jewels very remarkable. A 35.64 carat cushioncut diamond sits in the center of the necklace, while tourmalines are featured in the ring as a central cushion-cut stone surrounded by striking baguette cuts. The earrings have a matching pair of cushioncut diamonds, and the set includes marquise, baguette, and brilliant-cut white diamonds that are expertly matched with yellow diamonds. However, intrinsic to the design success of Glowing Lanterns is the unique combination of tourmaline with a second green gem, skillfully used in a sophisticated device of differing shades and diaphaneity. Perfectly contrasting the sharp, clean facets of the transparent tourmalines are the soft, translucent beads of chrysoprase, a chalcedony displaying striking apple-green hues. In its finest quality this material has proved increasingly difficult to source of late, particularly in matching sets, so the batch of beads used to complete the necklace and tassels featured in the necklace and earrings were challenging to find and collect. Just as in the creation of a pearl necklace, each bead is threaded on a strand of silk and individually knotted into place adding fluidity and suppleness to the whole.

A final, further feature of the Glowing Lanterns necklace sees the beauty of the tourmaline enhanced and enshrined in a case of custom-carved rock crystal. Completely surrounding it yet optically pure and entirely translucid, the dichroic colours of green within remain clear to see. They shift and change as the necklace moves, just as the light within a lantern would as it drifts skyward, its tassel swaying gently as it floats on air into the night. Every shape, shade and nuance of the necklace is meticulously conceived and crafted to stylize a lantern in miniature. Yet in one final twist comes the most audacious and creative element of all. Forever following the instruction of Valentin, grandson of the founder Georges-Edouard Piaget, to “do what has never been done before”, the Maison has pioneered a dramatic and unique jewellery first, conceiving an invisible switch system at the back of the rock crystal. This allows a light to be turned on from behind, internally illuminating the tourmaline and allowing it to glow - as a lantern would - from within.

GLOWING LANTERNS EARRINGS 18K white and yellow gold earrings set with 2 cushion-cut green tourmalines (approx. 3.76 cts), baguette-cut green tourmalines, marquise-cut yellow and white diamonds, baguette-cut diamonds, brilliant-cut diamonds and chrysoprase beads Unique creation

The Maison breaks the boundaries of what has gone before, extending what was previously thought possible in High Jewellery, and upholding the credo that the Maison still lives, and designs by today. The realization and accomplishment of such an ambitious construct for this necklace required more than 400 hours of careful planning and production by the dedicated craftsmen of the Piaget ateliers, piaget.com.

VOLUPTUOUS BOREALIS NECKLACE 18K white gold necklace set with 1 pear-shaped emerald from Zambia (approx. 10.29 cts), baguette-cut diamonds and brilliant-cut diamonds. Unique creation

The suite of Zambian emeralds featured throughout the Voluptuous Borealis jewels took more than two years to find and bring together as a coherent set. The most challenging was the necklace’s pearshaped gem, an ultra-clean stone with a bluishgreen colour more redolent of famed Columbian material. At 10.29 ct this magnificent stone is set off-centre in a placement of dynamic design, one which is mirrored in the earrings, ear cuff and cuff watch from the set, the asymmetric ring featuring a similar quality 5.31 carats emerald as its centre stone.

Geneva Magnificent Jewels sale breaks estimate record with historically significant royal collections

Christie's Geneva sale on 9 November had extremely rare royal jewellery owned by France's last Queen Marie Antoinette (top left) and Wallis Simpson the Duchess of Windsor (top right). Marie Antoinette's diamond bracelets were hidden once she was taken prisoner in Paris. Meanwhile, Wallis Simpson's bracelet reappears at auction for the first time since the 1987 'Jewels of the Duchess of Windsor' auction of her collection which fetched $50m, setting a new record at the time as the most pricey auction of a single-owner jewellery collection.

Collectors exceeded the highest estimate twice Two Marie Antoinette bracelets estimated to fetch between $2 million and $4 million in total, fetched almost twice as much. Meanwhile the Wallis Simpson diamond and ruby bracelet estimated to fetch between $1.1 million and $2.2 million, didn't. According to the historian, jewellery specialist Vincent Meylan and author of a forthcoming book on Marie Antoinette’s diamonds, the jewels were purchased from Boehmer for 250,000 livres — a sum that has been estimated as equivalent to around $4.6 million in today’s money. And went to Marie Antoinette’s sole surviving heir, MarieThérèse Charlotte of France, Madame Royale, later Duchess of Angoulême (1778-1851). After the auction, Tobias Kormind, managing director of Europe's largest online jeweller, the Mayfair headquartered 77 Diamonds, offered his expert comment: "This evening's auction was both shocking and fantastic. An amazing result for bracelets owned by Marie-Antoinette, who was confirmed as true royalty, while the Duchess of Windsor, who appeared more of an impostor royal, whose bracelet seemed to have lost its lustre, despite being fashioned from prized Burmese rubies and commissioned from jeweller to royalty Cartier.

Whichever way you look at it, being able to own a piece of history from someone you can read about in books is so powerful. The three regal bracelets which went on the block today once belonged to two of the most legendary and controversial royals in history, both self-proclaimed jewellery addicts. Marie Antoinette's pair of diamond bracelets boast a total of 112 diamonds, while the Duchess of Windsor's extravagant diamond and ruby Cartier bracelet, was a gift from the Duke of Windsor on their first wedding anniversary, and the rubies on this cuff bracelet are said to mark the passion, love and courage shared between these disgraced royals - it's shocking they didn't sell." Gemfields' largest high-quality emerald yet the Chipembele-is celebrated by Crash NFT series-Proof of Donation

G

emfields launches a series of NFTs to celebrate large emerald find, highlighting thus transparency and traceability via Proof of Donation, and gives back to charity. To celebrate the sale of Chipembele, Gemfields’ largest high-quality emerald to date, the company has once again led the way in innovation, partnering with Gübelin’s Provenance Proof to raise funds for conservation whilst enhancing transparency. The Gemfields NFT series, “the Chipembele Crash”, comprises six unique rhinoceros avatars. Each avatar features the characteristic emerald inclusions photographed inside the stone and avatars have been inspired by six real-life rhinos at the North Luangwa Conservation Programme (NLCP) in Zambia. An exclusive photo of each rhino is provided as unlockable content to the NFT.

The Chipembele emerald of 7,525 carats (1,505g), Chipembele – which means ‘rhino’ in the local indigenous dialect of Bemba – was discovered at the Kagem emerald mine in Zambia on July 2021, and has just gone under the hammer at Gemfields’ most recent emerald auction, with winning bids announced on 7 December. All images courtesy of Gemfields.

The Chipembele Crash, minted by Provenance Proof, will be sold via auction on OpenSea, the largest NFT marketplace, with viewing available from 8 December, auction opening on 13 December and bids closing 19 December. Funds raised from the sale of each member of the Chipembele Crash will go to the North Luangwa Conservation Programme to aid critical black rhinoceros conservation efforts, which will add to the donation Gemfields has already pledged from the sale of the Chipembele emerald. “We hope that the NFTs appeal to likeminded thinkers and secure meaningful donations to help even more black rhinos in Zambia,” said Sean Gilbertson, CEO of Gemfields. The winning bidder for Chipembele, Eshed – Gemstar, will benefit from the unique DNA nanoparticle tagging carried by Chipembele and developed by Provenance Proof.

Carl F. Bucherer funds manta research and conservation efforts of the northern

reaches of the Maldives

Commenting on his personal attitude towards this noble research, Sascha Moeri, Carl F. Bucherer’s CEO said, It’s an extraordinary honor for us to work with the Manta Trust. Our partnership has grown every year since 2013 and we’re delighted to see the impact of our collaboration through the results of this expedition as well as many other impactful projects which we have realized together in the past (...) We look forward to continuing our support of your mission in the years to come.”

The trust believes the Maldivian manta population is now stabilized, but that the global picture continues to be one of decline. Its work continues. Carl F. Bucherer is proud to support the trust and its mission to conserve the manta ray. All images courtesy of Carl F. Bucherer.

C

arl F. Bucherer's motto simultaneously incorporates the brand's corporate strategy–"Rooted in the heart of Switzerland but at home everywhere in the World"- with its sustainable aim, through dedicated support to protect animals and the environment even on the other side of the World.

Carl F. Bucherer has been supporting the Manta Trust since 2013 and its remarkable commitment to preserving endan-gered manta rays and the ecosystems and habitats they need to survive. Since 2017, the brand has produced Patravi ScubaTec watches in support of the trust’s activities, including most recently the 44.6 mm stainless-steel Patravi ScubaTec Maldives (above). A high-performance dive watch has been created to raise awareness of the Manta Trust. The funding raised by the watch manufacturer has helped raise awareness and enabled crucial research about the eco-systems in which mantas live. As a result, the Manta

Trust team of researchers and educators were given the

necessary support "to visit some of the country’s most remote coral reefs and islands, and to gain new insights into the regional populations of manta rays and connect with local communities,” says Guy Stevens, founder and chief executive of the Manta Trust, a British-based charity.

.

This ongoig support form the side of Carl F. Bucherer has culminated in the most recently completed research expedition, led by Stevens, consisting of an international team of 16 researchers, educators and journalists - the Manta Trust Far North Maldives Research Expedition, which concluded on the 17th of November 2021, after 17 nights at sea, 1400 kilometers, 200 manta ray sightings and 35 new manta IDs registered. The findings from the project, which was entirely funded by the luxury Swiss watch manufacturer Carl F. Bucherer, will support manta conservation efforts for years to come.
