JEWELS IN FOCUS: FENG. J HAUTE JOAILLERIE

Feng. J is world renown fine jewelry artist from mainland China, who creates exquisite high jewelry in a creative process similar to that of fine arts painter or sculptor, relying on strong synesthesia during the creative process: she is perceived by French jewelry experts as the “jeweler of the 21st century” and she is just in her early 30s. After having obtained the Master Degree of Jewelry Design at the University of the Arts London in 2012, Feng. J has worked for the jewelry department of Alexander McQueen in London, then went to Paris, at the legendary Haute école de Joaillerie, where she studied the traditional European jewelry craftsmanship. She acquired GIA (Gemmological Institute of America) G.G and the professional certificate of Gübelin Lab Academy in Switzerland.

Feng. J established her namesake Haute Joaillerie brand first in mainland China, Shanghai, and now in Paris with her studio at 16, Place Vendôme. She works with French atelier in Paris to create the exquisite one-of-a-kind high jewelry pieces. In October 2015, Feng. J's artistic jewelry piece "Soul of Viridity" has made the highest sold record of China jewelry designer's collection in POLY (Hong Kong) Auction House. FENG.J now splits her time between Paris and Shanghai, and her masterpieces are collected by lots of celebrities and reputable jewelry collectors between these two cities of lights and world-wide. Approaching her art with a distinctly East-meetsWest philosophy and aesthetic, she constantly breaks new ground in haute jewelry design. In an interview we learn more on the following pages about the Feng. J universe accompanied with the Feng. J latest Haute Joaillerie collection.

IN INTERVIEW WITH FENG.J THE FOUNDER AND DESIGNER OF FENG. J HAUTE JOAILLERIE IS WORLD RENOWN HAUTE JOAILLERIE ARTIST

Q: What prompted you to make a special book on inspirational process for the sapphire necklace set? FENG.J: "This sapphire necklace is a bespoke piece for a young client, who wants something special as birthday gift for for her beloved mother. And her mother is fond of roses and saphires, so I jumped out the idea of "Blue Rose" as a motif in a very sculptural form of art piece with a set of sapphires. When such big piece is done, I like to make a book to record the whole process of my creation, especially for bespoke clientele, it is very meaningful and artistic, as lots steps are all about carving and crafting." Q: How do you make sure that brands new creative projecs provide clients and collectors with a coherent and high-standard information about the brand? FENG.J: "I was born into a family with roots deeply founded in Chinese fine arts, which dates back almost one century. My great-grandfather was a court painter in later QING Dynasty. And now the world is in a new age. So I always try to expresses a style which combines eastern and western culture, but also in a chic and contemporary way. Arts of painting resides within me, and I consider my jewelry pieces to resemble an impressionist painting, with diverse colour combinations and enchanting light reflections, its my code and it also fulfills the information of the brand.

In the picture: (above) FENG . J HAUTE JOAILLERIE latest creation. All images FENG . J HAUTE JOAILLERIE, please do not reproduce.

Q: The lifestyle component of the new luxury collections seems to be key. For what special occasions do you create Haute Jewellery collections? How do you ensure that a wealthy Western collectors unfamiliar with the Asian art tradition have the same knowledge, experience or appreciation of Feng Haute Jewellery as wealthy Chinese clients and connoisseurs? FENG.J: "I create and design at lots of different occasions, such as traveling. reading and even sleeping, I likes to draw and write down all sparkles and inspirations at anytime. I believe that the aesthetic taste is universal, it could break the barrier of geography, language and human races, so what I do is to insist on my code and style of creation. "Creating jewelery is like painting with gemstones". I play with light, color and shadow of precious stones and metal to delivery a FENG. J piece to the world." Q: Speaking of expectations, the wealthy collectors are seemingly expecting to have the newest masterpiece and extraordinary product with rarest materials or highest quality of production, in the shortes possible time. How do you tackle this logistic ‘challenge’? FENG.J: "My clients and friends told me that I am the one who always has the attitude to say NO to clients if the schedule conflicts with the uncompromising standard of creations, as I consider my pieces as an art work, it takes time to craft.

He is involved in highest art and fashion circles; his reperoire in filmmaking and advertising spans across noble Parisian fashion houses like Louis Vuitton count among his many clients and brands, which seek his expertice for their brand's image campaings. Can you tell us about your latest projects? YT: "The most recent and I guess the most memorable project for me was filming for Influencers Award in Monaco. It was the first of its kind and it was the best place to meet creative and like-minded people, with such a positive and new outlook on life, art and the future. It is a completely different way of thinking from what we are used to. It was also an honour for me to personally meet the Princess Stephanie of Monaco. Image above: Yaro T. in Monte-Carlo, Monaco for Moralmoda Magazine

Yaro T., founder of the Yaro FIlms, the internationally sought film producer agreed to star in our second MonteCarlo issue for an in-depth interview about his film production and artistic work, and why he prefers Monaco.

MORALMODA MAGAZINE

Yaro is engaged in film and video production for some of world's top luxury brands. In an exclusive endof-the-year interview for Moralmoda Magazine we talk about his passion; the film-making in Monte-Carlo,

Yaro Films, founder on filming Monaco Yacht Show and meeting HSH Princess Stephanie of Monaco

cover story/ Yaro T. “The lifestyle of people in Cote d’Azur is unique, those vibes cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Here you get swept up by its own rhythm and lifestyle and you do not feel the notion of stress or have depressive thoughts. Everything about it clear blue sky, beaches, sea, small villages, nightlife and of course food creates a special sense of life that I adore.”

this a fascinating topic and am curious what the best use of this revolutionary technology will be. "Zoe And The Astronaut" is another film being released later this year. It's a heavy drama with sci-fi elements to it and I play a feisty Brazilian lady that adds some lighter colour to the film.

I also cannot forget filming for the Monaco Yacht Show, video of which you can soon see on my Instagram. Sea and water have always been my favourite element of nature and filming it and the superboats presented on that show brings me special pleasure." I wonder do you feel inspired in a certain way when you are in Monte-Carlo? YT: "The place I live it its own is a source of my everyday inspiration! For me, it is true beauty and the essence of luxury - I get inspired and motivated by it every day."

MORALMODA MAGAZINE

What is your number one inspiration here in Monaco? YT: "Sea. I can look at it for hours and it really inspires me. Beautiful people from all over the world words "style" and "chic" come to mind. Nature. Formula 1 races have an indescribable effect on me."

And how is it different when you do projects in London? YT: "I love London because of the amount of life that the city has. The variety of cultural events and art exhibitions that never fail to impress - whether it is good or bad it always leaves a mark on my imagination. Music and fashion industry takes a big part of the London scene - which is also a big part of the work that I do. I was lucky to have a chance to collaborate with a number of different and talented artists." Also it will be cool to know where you get ideas for amazing creative projects that you work on?` YT: "This is one is simple - travel. I cannot sit in one place for too long and need a movement in my life. I got really inspired by a village in Mexico called Tulum (a very famous place now) - it is an exceptional place with its peculiar lifestyle and architecture. This weekend I am visiting Marrakech. Different people and their languages, cultures, ways of life - all influence my work in a great way." Do you have a favourite art period or art form? YT: "I enjoy modern art, pop art specifically. Andy Warhol would be my favourite and a source of inspiration."

Moralmoda Magazine

How do you like to spend free time in Monaco? YT: "I enjoy a healthy lifestyle and spend my free time doing sports. Tennis is my favourite sport and I play it as often as I can. Training outside by the sea at the sunrise that is one great way to reset your mind and prepare yourself for what is about to come." Can you reveal what are your future projects? YT: "Right now I am working on music videos and we have recently finished filming a video with a young French hip-hop artist. The video will be on my Instagram page very soon. Looking further into the future there will be a few secret projects for the Cannes Festival of 2019."

What would you suggest to first time visitor to Monaco or in London? YT: "Have a cup of coffee in Cafe de Paris and watch the people pass by. Walk up to the Fairmont Hotel and have a glass of chilled rose wine on the terrace overlooking the Formula 1. Take a trip to the Japanese Gardens. And in the evening have a drink in the American Bar and then Coya for dinner. London is different. You can never be bored of that city and there is just so much to do Visit one of its many museums, Saachi Gallery and Tate Modern always host interesting exhibitions that are worth seeing. If you come to London in October, definitely see the Frieze Art Show in Regents Park where you can see art from all over the world. Be very British and have a tea time in Ritz Hotel on Piccadilly or a more cool Sketch. Listen to jazz in a famous Ronnie Scotts or smaller 606 on Lots Road. If you are a foodie, you can choose one of many amazing London restaurants, such as Milos, Novikov, Peyote or Hakkasan, and food markets - Borough Market is the biggest and the most famous, but there are plenty of others all around London. Then finish (or start?) your night in Bagatelle."

"On the peak of success my company was evaluated at $250M. Everything that happened after led me to where and who I am now – helping those in need " Prada, Elie Saab to Loro Piana, she not only worked closely with top Italian fashion brands but also established close private relations and spent time with Gucci sisters and top fashion models that she has also discovered for Russian market including Eva Herzigova and Claudia Schiffer. Mila is a lady, always correct in her manners and civil, engaged in people and her many projects with great enthusiasm, not just because this consumes her time, but also because she genuinely has interest and emphaty towards others.

Hollywood film story/Mila MORALMODA MAGAZINE

Mila is the perfect example of a self-made businesswoman: she paved her way from a Russian girl with impeccable taste in the newlyborn Russia of 1990s that had just opened its doors to the international market to one of the most professional luxury fashion retail specialists in the world who produced the first runway shows in history of her homeland with such A-list models as Claudia Schiffer, Eva Herzigova and Linda Evangelista. The company she had founded in Saint Petersburg was called Vanity and it was the largest retail chain of luxury fashion in Russia. Mila achieved such success by being the first entrepreneur to sign exclusive deals on distribution with top fashion brands, and teaching the first waves of fashion buyers, boutique staff and of course by helping the new generation of Russians to learn how to dress with

style. She owned 13 luxury fashion boutique and 1 store – Vanity Opera – which was such a unique open concept that the media from Europe to Japan made reports about its opening, its interior and variety of brands represented. Since 2007 Mila Anufrieva lives and works in Milan where she founded a consulting agency called Lifestyle Atelier that focuses on luxury fashion and luxury retail, offering services in the fields of business development, communications and event marketing, as well as the development of personal branding and style. Cancer survivor The illness struck not long before her moving to Italy, as her business had reached the heights that her competitors could only dream of – Mila was diagnosed with stage III cancer and was guaranteed to die. She had to fight not only melanoma but the competitors who used the moment of weakness for their attack. While she was on the treatment, her fashion empire was hijacked with the help of the KGB. When she had won

over cancer there was a new battle to win – the battle for the company she had built from a scratch. Not to give her a single chance for victory the foes initiated a fake criminal case planning to jail her and get rid of her later. What they had not been waiting for is that one of them stepped up for Mila and helped her escape to safe haven in Italy. Official Ambassador of Made In Italy Staying persona non grata in Russia since then, in 2017 Mila became the first Russian woman in history to be elected as the official ambassador of the most famous fashion trademark in the world – Made In Italy. Mila for Africa – helping those in need Nowadays Mila’s first priority is charity: she helps over 170 orphaned children of Guinea Bissau, her efforts are noticed by the major Italian and international media of VOGUE level, and she personally visits the country as often as she can to control how the funds are spent and how the children are treated, educated and cared for.

A Hollywood team is making 'The Last Empress Of Fashion' feature film that will show you the backstage of the world of luxury fashion retail.

Image above: Mila Anufrieva founded a Consulting Atelier with emphasis on fashion/luxury industry. Mila Anufrieva's Lifestyle Atelier is mainly focusing on Business development, Communications, Event marketing as well as the development of personal style and branding.

"I wanted to provide the possibilities for the small children because I had seen their potential, had seen how gifted many of them are and I got sure they could prove themselves on so many levels. This is my motivation to do something that would influence the lives not only of these specific children, but the lives of as many people in Africa as possible”. - Mila Anufrieva

Mila spends lot of her time in Italy with Italian fashion families such as Gucci (seen here and above). In 2017 she became the first Russian woman in history to be elected as the official ambassador of Made In Italy.

cover story/ Leona König

The team behind the film The Last Empress Of Fashion is directed by an awardwinning execustive producer and a documentary director with an international co-production experience – Gala Pawl, who says: “We all need more films about ‘women who made it’. In the times of MeToo and Time’s Up a lot of sad but inspiring stories are still untold. Mila’s life is the best example of men using power to take down a more talented, truly unique rival. It’s the story of a cancer survivor, one-of-us kind of woman who worked hard to make it from rags to riches. It’s the story of a woman who now spends all her time and money to give future to orphaned kids as if seeing her younger self in them and wishing them the best life. Mila’s story will give us all the chance to peek behind the curtains of luxury fashion retail and to understand what it’s worth – to be and stay Human. I am sure it will inspire girls, women, cancer survivors and… just every human being who has a heart”. With the help of a live action director Michael Vaynberg who won over 30 awards only for his last film, had taught directing course in New York Film Academy and now works on 2 feature films with A-list Hollywood actors, Gala plans to make Mila’s biopic the first film that shows the backstage not of the fashion world in general, but of the most important part of it – the luxury fashion retail, that makes the sole existence of all the luxury brands possible.

Image above Gala Pawl awardwinning Hollywood-based director

“Making this project we have several goals: the first one is to finish the feature, of course. The second one is to attract people’s attention to Mila’s charity that focuses on poverty and giving the opportunities to those who need it the most. That is why we ask people to support either the film or Mila’s projects directly, or both – because together we can do so much more!” – says Gala Pawl

The story is so unique and powerful that one of the best production designers in the world – Beth Kushnick – joined the project as a visual consultant. Beth is famous for her works on such CBS shows as The Good Wife, The Good Fight, with TV shows like Fringe, Braindead and Alist Hollywood features of Jumanji, Wanted and National Treasure level. The producing team includes such specialists as Pavel Shumov, an experienced story and post-production producer, Alexander Mercury, a London-based segment producer and Sasha Boot, a Moscow-based co-producer. Andrey and Marina Zhyla, marketing professionals from Los Angeles stepped up to help this project happen as well – so the team collected on this film is working literally from all over the world. “When shooting a story that took place in a whole number of countries it is very important to have team members who can cover their segments: it saves you the budget, makes you being able to react instantly when an A-list interviewee provides you a time slot – and guarantee the quality of the production fits the highest standards of the industry,” – comments Pavel Shumov. The Last Empress of Fashion is going to be a hit movie, and the most amazing thing about it is that producers give anyone the chance to participate in the project. They launched a campaign on igg.me/at/FilmAboutMila that makes it possible for you to get into the film or even become a part of the production team.

Painting with petroleum varnish is toxic, but your innovation is eliminating petroleum from paint, how is this possible? Salim: "This is my big challenge, to remove all the toxic substances from the varnish and chemical petroleum compounds. By doing some experiments I could prove that it can be possible, and by reading a lot of research papers to achieve the final result."

What is the next step for your research and results? Salim: "After two and work for three years for my project I hope to God to have sponsor to start my own business to help myself and help another artist also I have a lot of ideas I want to start as soon as possible and work on this idea with the research and get better and on top of my research field, and to research more and more about Omani gum.

Do you plan to collaborate with commerce? Salim: "Until now I don't have any plan to work with any company. But I want to start up my own company and my own brand." Is your method equally applicable for smallscale and mass stock industrial production? Salim: "Of course it can be produced and sold for long-term manufacture, because the resource which are used are available, and I'm on direction to make this a project on sale and products like it by using same method which I was using before." How does your method help artists painters? Salim: "My product will help all the artists working with paint, also it will support the artists to be relaxed with the work; it would help them because it will be safe and without any side effect to artist's health or body, because I use natural and organic material, and the smell is without any risk to get sick, it is free from dangerous compound on for the finishing like the finest we can use it what s the weather good smell. And easy to use I knew till be a better choice done with his cell and supermarket." What was difficult to solve in your method? Salim: "The difficult thing it is that I can't use the frankincense as much as I want due to cost, and different way also how I can prove of concepts of this product it can't be as the virus so the challenge make me with my project grow up after three years and it is happened finally."

What other chemical research did you work on? Salim:"When I was taking my study at my university my final project it is about what treatment by using activated carbon than eight months ago I start my new project witches drink water by test of Omani frankincense, so I think."

How should your project help in the future? Salim: "Finally, I hope that my project will be available to sell for anyone who needs this project, and who has big challenge and also his conventional petroleum-based painting because of toxic petroleum-method based paint products which are sold in the market today. I hope to help all the artist around the world."

Artists turns to science to develop World's first petroleum-free non-toxic paint Petroleum based varnish are used to protect oil paintings. It has been around for centuries; even the Ancient Egyptians used it. Without it, Mona Lisa’s smile wouldn’t be as polished as it still is. Today’s varnish however, is made up of toxic chemicals, and artists like Salim are no strangers to its harmful side-effects. Blinding headaches, drowsiness and trouble breathing are the price you pay to protect and embellish oil paintings. Being in constant contact with the liquid, Salim fell ill, “I was hospitalized due to breathing difficulties. After I recovered, I knew I had to eliminate the negative side of the one thing I love doing most, working on my art.” With a clear purpose on the horizon, Salim got to work. He wanted an environmentally friendly, organic, efficiently produced varnish. Twenty failed experiments later, he got his Eureka-moment. The solution? – “Our local treasure,” as he puts it, Oman’s world-famous frankincense; a scented gum resin used as incense, to neutralize the effects of varnish. Salim’s product defuses the toxic fumes produced by varnish, making it bearable. Impact: To manually produce frankincense-infused varnish would take days, so Salim developed a machine to make safe, organic varnish. Imbued with Omani frankincense in an efficient automated station, it saves time, effort, and assures quality control.

Where are you based and what is your academic background? Salim: “I am from Oman, I am optimistic man, I study art engineering college my garage around process operation on maintenance also I have study look Glasgow school of art and I have burst with a lot of samples you on around the world.”

Below: Salim presents on TV his ecofriendly machine for natural varnish.

Which is your new project and how did you start to work with this idea? Salim: "My project is to create an ecofriendly machine that will produce eco-friendly varnish for the artist to use in paintings. I started working on this idea two years ago in my house, because I got sick from conventional paints. Thus, I was under medication for two year. I started experimenting at my studio by doing first 20 experiments that failed. With my 21st experiment I got to the results, but it was still not good result, because I still had challenge to make this varnish to be 100% without any toxic or chemical substances."

My most recent inspirations I drew from the London’s Design Biennale this year. I was on the lookout for an original material to be included in one of my clients project and came across Jesper Eriksson’s Coal: Post Fuel installations where coal is presented as an organic material for architecture and interior design. The installation contains flooring, furniture among other objects in solid coal: some are left in the material’s raw state, others are processed into a finish similar to black marble which would blend well with my clients space.’’
