A Night of Horror ?

Well it was supposed to be for the Halloween kids - then midnight came with the water Monday 31st October was the night of trick or treat - scary costumes, amazing make-up tricks and kids having fun in their neighbourhood. Whilst the rain stopped for the trick'n'treaters to enjoy their fun night - our friend La Nina had different ideas as day turned into dark with the wind howling and the Molong Creek reaching peak flood levels in what seemed to be no time at all. It wasn't long before the local rescue teams drove through the dark night ... lights flashing ... sirens sounding. "Creek's flooding" came the call as we jumped out of warm beds into the cold, dark night to start sandbagging. By 2.30 am the floodwaters peaked - and receded. The night of trick and treating came to an end.

The effects of the night for Kaye and Phillip of Bank Street's Wing Hang Chinese Restaurant - left them with cleaning, mopping, and the loss of their pretty new red carpet replaced in June after the floods of November 2021. The popular Molong residents were not the only ones who suffered - but their loss was indeed, significant. It's not only Molong that is on the flood radar ... every other Cabonne town has been affected in one way or the other. Neighbourhoods throughout Molong, and neighbouring Cabonne towns and villages have been suffering the invasion of endless surface water and mud entering their yards, sheds, garages and homes. Like in other places it seems like we have to learn to 'live with it'.

Barry (Baza) Porter of Molong lost his life in a motorcycle accident in Victoria last Friday afternoon. He was a beautiful man, husband, father, son, sonin-law, nephew, cousin, good friend to many. He lived his 50 short years helping people in need. He was there when needed, he gave when needed, he lifted the hope and spirits of many others when needed. P.13

Kylie Hall reports Molong Central School might be a small school but that didn't stop them from bringing home a State Hockey title this week. Compared to 1000+ students at other Public Schools in NSW, Molong Central has approximately 200 students in years K-6 with hockey being a powerhouse within the town. The local Molong Hockey Club is breeding an abundance of talented young players with the majority of these attending Molong Central School. This is great for the local public school as NSW runs state primary school knockout competitions for NSW public schools. Managed by the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association (NSWPSSA), opportunities are provided for primary students to participate in competitive sport at the state level and above. What's more, the NSW public education system (one of the biggest education systems in the world), has more than 823,000 students attending 2,220 public schools across NSW in 2022 alone with all NSW primary schools invited to nominate a team in a range of sports.

Being affiliated to the Western Schools Sports Association, Molong Central School kicked off their PSSA knockout campaign with a win against Clergate (8-0). They then went on to beat Orange Public School (14-0), Kelso Public School (3-0) and Parkes East (5-0) to be crowned Western Champions once again. In each of these games Molong Central were yet to field their 'best' team due to illness and State representative fulfilments. Being Western Champions meant Molong was then one of the best top eight teams in the State. A bye to the next round saw Molong Central progress to being in the top four teams in the State. An incredible achievement in itself! The State Championships were held in Newcastle on Tuesday 18th October. Molong Central played Bowral in their Semi-Final coming away with a 6-0 win which then put them in the top two teams in the State and saw them progress to the final against Grafton. The final started off with Molong Central scoring first, following with a second shortly after. Grafton hit back just before half time to make the score 2-1 at the break. The girls were cool, calm and collected at half time just as they had been all year - even with a few injury clouds both in the final and in the games leading up to it. Molong Central came out firing in the second half slotting two more goals to take the score to 4-1 at full time. Molong Central had won the PSSA State Championship Hockey Title! They are now the number one girls Primary School hockey team in NSW! A phenomenal achievement! The team - Charlotte McDouall (Year 6), Evie Ryan (Year 6), Milly Olsson (Year 6), Layne Mills (Year 6), Pheobe Lyons (Year 6), Lacey Olsson (Year 4), Rosie Quilty (Year 5), Indy Vandervelde (Year 6), Stella Mitchell (Year4), Ella Vandervelde (Year 4), Frankie Mitchell (Year 6), Aly Bliss (Year 6), Armani Smith (Year 5), Mackenzie Mitchell (Year 5) and Natalie Fowler (Year 5) are to be commended for their commitment, dedication, team work and enthusiasm throughout the year. Congratulations girls.

Long-time resident of Molong, Brian Dean never fails to notice where he may be of help to others. Tuesday morning Brian was in Bank Street - hosing floodwater off the footpaths in front of shops and businesses. We all appreciated your work Brian and that of whoever moved the sandbags etc from doorways. Noticed walking most mornings around town (early) and enjoying coffee (early) with others at local cafes - this delightful local is also seen during the NSW Working Dog Championships cleaning up around the kiosk area (also early morning). He then returns to help on the BBQ at lunchtime. A member of the Salvation Army team - Brian and his wife Margaret - are an enormous help around town. In fact, we can probably say that he does more than what we know about when it comes to helping others. Molong’s Quiet Achiever!

Gee: Regional Wrecking Ball Must Be Stopped as Government Axes Dixons Long Point

quietly into the night on this and other key projects, they should think again. “Our region makes an enormous contribution to the wealth and prosperity of our nation and we demand our fair share,” said Mr Gee. Dixons Long Point Facts The proposed river crossing, which would have slashed the distance between Orange and Mudgee, and linked the Central West with the Newcastle region, was supported with a $29.8 million grant by the former Coalition Government. An additional $5 million was promised through the Community Development Grants program. Following the October budget, the new government put an axe to the project, quietly revealing that all funding to build the bridge would be reclaimed.

Cancer Fund Raiser at The Molong Golf Club.

The new federal government has axed plans to construct a trailblazing bridge over the Macquarie River at Dixons Long Point and taken the existing project funds that were in the kitty without consultation. “I am truly shocked that the federal government is axing the Dixons Long Point project without any consultation with the communities who’ve been working so hard on it. This news is quite simply devastating. It is a disgraceful decision made by people who have made no effort to come out and see the project for themselves. To have come so far after 170 years of communities raising their voices and pushing for this crossing is heartbreaking,” said Mr Gee “Killing this game-changing project is a sad indictment on a government that is looking more city-centric every week. The lack of consultation is particularly galling. There wasn’t even the courtesy of a phone call to us before the government made this public. “While more money was needed for the project due to skyrocketing building costs, that’s the case with every building project in the country. If the government doesn’t want to put any more money in, there is actually still $27.8 million in unspent allocated funding sitting there in the kitty that could be used to carry out work on Dixons Long Point. “There are a number of different building options still available. $19 million of that funding could be used to build a bridge with 20-year flood immunity at the existing crossing site instead of the new one. $16.6 million gets you lower-level bridge or you could even put in a culvert crossing. The balance could be spent on the roads. All of this information has been provided to the government. “I call on the government to sit down with me and MidWestern Regional Council and discuss how the $27.8 million already allocated can be spent. If the government doesn’t do this, it’s proof that this is part of a cynical regional money grab aimed at siphoning money from the country into city projects. Proof that they’re aiming to take the money and run. “I’m asking the Labor Duty Senator for Calare, Deborah O’Neill, and the Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Catherine King, to make an effort to get work on this project started, if not with new money than with the money that’s already in the bank. They need to tell us why the money already allocated can’t be put to good use on the project rather than simply being snatched away. “With no commitment on the huge Great Western Highway upgrade which the previous federal government committed $2 billion towards, and now the axing of Dixons Long Point, our key projects are being thrown into chaos. It’s sickening. This regional wrecking ball must be stopped. “I spoke about the need for both Dixons Long Point and the Great Western Highway upgrade in Parliament last week and it’s shocking that we’ve been ignored. “The Dixons Long Point project certainly stacks up with a Benefit Cost Ratio of 2.491. Anything over a one is considered a strong result. “Instead of backing this game-changing project, the new government has begun pilfering every last dollar from the Dixons Long Point kitty, binning years of work, and generations of hope. The lack of consultation is appalling and disrespectful to our communities. “If the government thinks we are just going to go

Last Wednesday lady members of the Molong Golf Club welcomed and entertained 50 guests at a Luncheon and games afternoon to raise funds for the Cancer Council in Orange. Cassie Sullivan from the Cancer Council attended as well and gave us a talk on how and where the money raised is put to use, which on the day we raised just over $1,300. Our Club would like to thank all those that contributed to the lunch, the games and the raffle, local businesses that generously donated where: The Telegraph Hotel, The Molong Store, QT Beauty, Lime & Stone, Booful & The Woolshed Store, The Molong Pharmacy, Eden Decor & Gifts, Marsden on Bank, Hardware Molong and the Wildflower Cafe. 1st Prize in the Raffle was won by Relle Provost, 2nd Helen Balcomb, 3rd Betty Watcham. The lucky door prize which was a bouquet of flowers from Pick me Flowere & Gifts was won by Pat Cartlidge. We have received some great feed back and we thank everyone for their attendance and generosity.

Mountain biking mecca at Mount Canobolas near Orange could undermine Indigenous heritage Aboriginal elders in central western New South Wales have demanded their voices be heard in what they fear will be the potential desecration of one of their most sacred spiritual sites. Mount Canobolas, or Gaanha-bula, towers over the regional city of Orange and could become home to the state’s next network of mountain bike trails. If approved, more than 100 kilometres of track would be built on the site, with the majority snaking through a state conservation area. But for the traditional owners, the Wiradjuri, the mountain is Gaanha-bula: one of three brothers who was punished by the spirit ancestors for killing his brother Wahluu after they fell in love with the same woman. “Gaanha-bula is part of our dreaming story,” Wiradjuri elder Uncle Neil Ingram said. “It’s a sacred, spiritual place for the Wiradjuri people. Uncle Neil and fellow Wiradjuri elders were speaking out against what they said was a lack of consultation by the Orange City Council. “We were not consulted appropriately by council’s archaeological consultant,” Uncle Neil said. An environmental impact statement is currently being prepared for the project, which is before the NSW Department of Planning. In a statement, the Orange City Council said a decision had not been made about whether the mountain bike trails would be built, and that they should not be built if cultural and heritage values could not be protected. NSW Parliament Upper House member Sue Higginson will visited Orange on Monday to support community calls for Orange City Council to abandon its plans for a 100km mountain bike trail network on Mt Canobolas/ Gaanha-bula. The visit follows a Federal Budget decision to terminate the Building Better Regions Fund under which Orange City Council had a $10 million grant application submitted to complete the Orange Regional Sports Precinct, leaving council with some big bills to pay. Council is set to hand down their mini-budget in

November and community groups expect a final decision on the mountain bike trail will be made. Wiradjuri Elders have rejected the mountain bike trail plans, calling for the sacred site to be protected. Canobolas Conservation Alliance has also nominated the site as an Area of Outstanding Biodiversity Value, a nomination that has been under NSW Government consideration since 2018.

Doubt cast on future of Dungowan and Wyangala Dams in NSW after federal budget defers funding

Two major New South Wales dam projects have fallen victim to cutbacks in the federal government’s first budget, casting doubt on whether they will go ahead. The former government promised to fund half the cost of building a new Dungowan Dam near Tamworth in the state’s north-west, and to raise the Wyangala Dam wall near Cowra in the central west. Labor has now deferred the funding along with money for other water projects, which is expected save the budget almost $900 million over four years. Labor said it would defer any funding to raise the Wyangala Dam wall until the business case was finished and the viability of the work assessed. The Nationals member for Riverina Michael McCormack, whose seat includes Cowra, said while he understood the government’s reason, he would like to have seen a stronger commitment.

Molong Probus Club The Probus group celebrated our 21st Birthday at our last meeting with a lovely cake made by Irene Bloomfield followed by lunch at the Telegraph Hotel. Probus is a not for Profit organisation and its motto is FUN, FRIENDSHIP AND FELLOWSHIP, we meet once a month on the 2nd Tuesday at 10am at the Molong Bowling Club and new members are always very welcome. Molong Yarn Market Celebrates 50 years of creatives, artisans, history and friendship

In last week's Express I wrote about the start of the marvellous and visionary idea that came together back in the early 1970's when four local grazier's wives Mrs Kirby, Mrs Tonkin, Mrs Coleman and Mrs Beadle came together during one of their craft days and formed the idea which grew to become the Molong Yarn Market and CoachHouse that stands with pride today on the corner of Bank Street and Gidley Street. This outstanding local 'gem' stands as the result of the achievements that can come about when talented 'fearless leaders' supported by many hands - come together and stand firmly together - their focus being the project - their gift to the town and the benefit to future residents - supported by a 'never, ever, give up' approach.

Recently, the 'Yarn Market' and 'CoachHouse' community owned enterprises celebrated 50 years of progress involving the lives of many local craftspeople, artisans and most of all the documenting of the history of crafts made in this area - from those made by early settlers families through many generations to today's fine work. As I mentioned in last week's Express - this community owned enterprise helped to save Molong during some very challenging years of downturns and change.

(L) Popular Cabonne Councillor, Marlene Nash, attended the 50th luncheon celebration where she presented a number of bouquets to long-time members including Mrs Gladys Bennett - received proudly by daughter-inlaw Donna Bennett.

(R) Current President, Toni Davey presenting Mrs Platts with a bouquet of flowers in recognition of her outstanding service as a volunteer member of the Molong Yarn Market. (Below L) Artisan, Susie Brown made the 50th anniversary quilt for the Yarn Market celeberations. There are 720 squares meticulously forming this quilt. Cr. Marlene Nash and President of the Yarn Market Toni Davey are photographed with Susie.

(Right Mrs Ivy Barrett was also recognised at the 50th celebrations luncheon for her years of volunteering at the Yarn Market and her involvement in sharing local craft and making skills to following generations to preserve local history.\

Annabelle Bodum catered for the 50th celebration luncheon before she headed off for a long holiday overseas visiting her son and his family in the UK, her sister in London and then on to Malaysia to visit family there. We hope Annabelle will return to Australia.

(R) Long-time Executive members and volunteers of the Yarn Market, Barbara Strong (right) and Rhoma Hale (left) were honoured to cut the 50th anniversary celebration cake.

Lehrmann trial aborted after juror accessed own information The jury in the Lehrmann trial has been discharged after it was discovered a juror had obtained information outside the evidence presented. ACT Chief Justice Lucy McCallum said it was unfortunate but indicated she had no option but to abort the trial. A new trial has been scheduled for February 20. The member of the 12 person jury – which had been deliberating since last Wednesday – had been doing their own research. McCallum said she had told the jurors at least 17 times not to seek information outside the court. She said she had told them: “You must not try to undertake your own research”. Early this week, jurors indicated they had not been able to reach a unanimous verdict, but McCallum urged them to continue to deliberate. The juror’s material was found during a routine tidying. It was a research paper on the unhelpfulness of trying to quantify the prevalence of false complaints. Former Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann was charged with raping his then colleague Brittany Higgins in the office of then Coalition minister Linda Reynolds shortly before the 2019 election. Higgins’ sensational allegation, which she made public in the media in early 2021, fuelled a debate about a toxic culture in the Parliament House workplace and created serious and ongoing political problems for then Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who was widely accused of mishandling the fallout. The trial saw Higgins face extensive questioning from the defence counsel and also heard evidence from Reynolds and another former minister, Michaelia Cash, for whom Higgins worked after leaving the Reynolds office. Reynolds denied her main concern when she first discussed the incident with Higgins was that if it came out it would harm the government at the imminent election. The jury also heard from witnesses who were ministerial and parliamentary security staff at the time. Higgins accused Lehrmann of assaulting her on a couch in the parliamentary office of Reynolds, who was defence industry minister at the time, in March 2019, after a night out drinking in two Canberra bars. Lehrmann pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexual intercourse without consent. Higgins spoke with police in 2019 but decided not to pursue the matter. In 2021, after giving two media interviews, she went ahead with a complaint. She told police in February 2021 that she had been drinking with defence industry contractors and staffers, including Lehrmann, at The Dock in Kingston and 88mph on the evening of March 22, 2019. Higgins and Lehrmann agreed to share an Uber, but he said he “had to pick something up from Parliament House,” she said. They arrived there at about 1.40am on March 23, and were let in to the Reynolds office by security. Higgins, who described herself as highly intoxicated,

said she fell asleep in Reynolds’ office. “The next thing I remember is being on the couch as he was raping me,” she said. “I couldn’t get him off me. I was crying throughout the entire process. I said ‘no’ at least half a dozen times, he did not stop.” Higgins was later found asleep and naked on the couch by a parliamentary security officer. According to parliamentary security guard Mark Fairweather, Lehrmann left the building at 2:33am. Higgins departed several hours later, putting a jacket from a charity bag of clothes over her white dress. The court heard Higgins told her former partner, Ben Dillaway, that she’d woken “half naked” in Reynolds office and was “barely lucid”. “I really don’t think it was consensual at all,” Higgins texted Dillaway on March 26, 2019. Dillaway subsequently said he would speak to someone in the prime minister’s office on her behalf. In his interview with police after the allegations went public, Lehrmann said the pair had no sexual contact. He described it as “an innocuous sort of night” with colleagues. Lehrmann said when they entered the ministerial suite he went to his desk while Higgins entered Reynolds’ office. He said he did not see her again before he left. Lehrmann was quickly dismissed after the late night visit, for “serious misconduct”, with Reynolds citing his entering her ministerial suite for non-work purposes and being dishonest about his reasons (telling security he was there for official business). Higgins, under cross examination, denied falsifying the allegations because she was worried about losing her job. “I’m not a monster, I would never do something like that,” she told the court. Concluding her evidence – which was broken by an interval of several days when she was “unavailable” – Higgins addressed Lehrmann directly, declaring “nothing was fine after what you did to me, nothing”. It was revealed during Reynolds’ evidence that the former minister had asked Lehrmann’s legal team for transcripts of Higgins’ evidence and also suggested text messages between Higgins and another of her former staffers, who was friendly with Higgins, “may be

revealing”. As well, Reynolds’ partner sat in court during the case. Reynolds, who had been told her contacts were inappropriate, denied the claim by prosecutor Shane Drumgold that she had been “attempting the coach the cross-examination”. Summing up at the end of the trial, Drumgold posed five questions he said the jury had to consider: Was Lehrmann attracted to Higgins? Why did he go to parliament house? Did he have sex with Higgins? Did Higgins consent? Was Lehrmann reckless as to whether Higgins consented? Drumgold described Higgins as an “inherently credible witness”. “When she couldn’t recall something, she said so … when she didn’t know an answer, she made it plain,” he said. She “didn’t seem to embellish her account of rape at all”. He also said “there were clearly strong political forces at play in the period immediately after the events, through the election and beyond. These forces were at play for the almost two years [Higgins] worked for Senator Cash”. In his summing up defence barrister Steven Whybrow said “Lehrmann has no onus to prove anything”. “We can probably sum up this case in the kindest way to Ms Higgins … and just say she doesn’t know what happened,” he told the court. “What we do know for a fact [is] that Ms Higgins passed out, fell asleep in the minister for defence industry private office and is seen by a security guard naked.” He allowed Higgins might now be convinced of what she alleged. “She doesn’t know what happened and she’s reconstructed events to the point she now genuinely believes they’re to be true. "That doesn’t mean they are true. If she’s convinced herself in the witness box this has happened it might be entirely genuine.” In her directions to the jurors, McCallum told them: “It’s important that you are satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that the witness is both honest and accurate in the account she has given”. In considering her evidence, “you may like to see whether it’s supported by other evidence”. Urging them to assess the evidence clinically, McCallum said: “You would have seen the number of journalists in court every day. They’re practically hanging from the rafters. "You are not answerable in this trial to public opinion no matter which way you think it sways.” McCallum said there were three questions to be considered: whether sexual intercourse happened, which was the “principal issue”; whether consent was given by Higgins (it can’t be given if a person is unconscious, asleep or too intoxicated), and whether Lehrmann was reckless towards whether Higgins was consenting. Molong’s Halloween

Bah - Humbug, you say, but each year it seems that the children (in the safety of the adults) increasingly sweep down to willing Bank Street Businesses and to local houses (only those on the list who will welcome them). All spookily dressed up and looking for lollies. On Monday it was no different. Here are some snaps of the happy people. They looked terrific. Tracey Harvey started it up here some years ago and puts on a splendid spooky show at her house to finish the night. Well done Tracey.

Halloween is not American

Halloween is a celebration observed in many countries on 31 October, the eve of the Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day. One theory holds that many Halloween traditions were influenced by Celtic harvest festivals. Celebrated in Ireland and Scotland for centuries, Irish and Scottish immigrants took many Halloween customs to North America in the 19th century. Popular Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, attending costume parties, carving pumpkins jack-o’lanterns, lighting bonfires etc. But did it descend from a Roscommon cave? Nestled away in a field full of sheep in County Roscommon (Ireland) is what some some people believe is the origin of Halloween - a cave known as Ireland’s

Gate to Hell. It is believed this is the birth place of the Irish pre-Christian festival of Samhain, known today as Halloween. It is located near Rathcrogan, the ancient capital of Connacht and a major archaeological area, home to 240 sites dating back 5,500 years. The damp and murky cave, stretching 37m (121ft) below ground, is where ancient Celts believed there was a doorway to the other world. “At least as long as 2,000 years ago locals believed that the gate between the worlds opened on 31 October. This was to allow for the transition of seasons between autumn and winter. “Monsters and manifestations would emerge, led by the goddess Morríghan, to create a world ready for winter, including birds with foul breath that would strip

leaves from trees. “Locals would stay indoors in fear of being dragged into the other world when the ghouls had finished ravaging the land. “If you had to go outside you wore a costume and mask to look hideous. “That way you would be left alone and not dragged into the otherworld.” Now it has to be said that Roscommon is not the only place in Ireland to lay claim to being the source of Halloween. In 2014, archaeologists digging at Tlachtga - the Hill of Ward - found evidence of intense burning at the site dating back to 500 AD. The plot thickens on where Halloween began but the stories are worth telling. But forget America. Aussue kids thesedays have as much fun as they do.

REG’S BENCH A couple is out for a walk when they notice a large sign outside a house that reads, “Talking Dog for Sale.” They are both intrigued by the idea of a talking dog, so they knock on the door and ask if they can take a look at this dog “Sure!” says the owner, “Come on in.” The owner escorts them into the lounge where the dog is lying on the sofa watching television. “Hello,” they say to the dog. “Hello,” the dog responds. “What have you done with your life so far then?” the couple ask the dog. “Well actually I’ve led a very full life,” says the dog. “Really?” says the couple. “Yes really,” says the dog. “I’ve lived in the Alps rescuing avalanche victims. Then I served my country in Iraq. And now I work part-time reading to the residents in a retirement home.” The couple is amazed by this. They can’t believe any dog could have done quite so much. One of them then asks the dog’s owner, “Why on earth would you want to get rid of this amazing dog?” “Oh, we’re getting rid of him because he’s a liar. He’s not done any of those things” says the owner. Jill, a middle-aged woman, is having surgery in hospital following a severe heart attack when she has a vision of God by her bedside. “Will I die God?” she asks. To which God responds, “No my dear, you still have 30 more years to live yet.” Well if she’s got 30 more years to look forward to and since she’s in hospital

Looking for something to do with the kids this holiday? Why not take them to see someone fitting batteries? Classy sign ! I’d imagine they get lots of Customers to watch !

Solutions page 14

QUICK CROSSWORD anyway, Jill decides she might as well make the most of her operation. So she gets breast implants, liposuction, a tummy tuck, a hair transplant, and collagen injections in her lips. When it’s all finished and the bruises have healed she looks absolutely stunning and 10 years younger. The day she’s discharged from the hospital, she leaves the hospital with a real spring in her step. Feeling very good about her makeover, Jill steps into the street and is immediately knocked down by an ambulance and killed. As she steps through the Pearly Gates, Jill sees God and decides to complain. “You said I had 30 more years to live,” she says to God. “Well that’s true,” says God. “So what happened?” Jill asks. To which God shrugs and says, “I’m sorry but I didn’t recognize you.” Every ten years in the Monastery, the monks were allowed to break their vow of silence to speak just two words. With ten years gone by, Brother Michael gets his first chance to speak. He thinks for a second and then says, “Food bad.” Another ten years go by and again Brother Michael has an opportunity to speak briefly and on this occasion, he says, “Bed hard.” A further decade later, it’s the big day once more. However this time Brother Michael gives the head monk a long stare before saying, “I quit.” To which the head monk responds, “I’m not surprised. You’ve been complaining ever since you got here.”

CHURCH NOTICES

“Our hearts are broken at the unexpected death of Barry Porter. Barry, died tragically in a motorcycle accident on the Hume Highway last Friday leaving behind his wife Kelly and their four kids Liam, Elouise, Rose and Ronan. Baz was a friend to all and worked tirelessly to make this world a better place. He would help anyone and everyone in need - and was the kind of person that would give you the shirt off his back. In his work, Baz worked with the youth of our community in schools ministry and as a community chaplain providing food, care and support to the most disadvantaged members of all communities. An infectious character, Baz was loved by all. For this wonderful man, and family, who gave everything so willingly to others ... we his mates ask that we may now give a little back to help and support Kelly and the family as they navigate the hard times ahead.”

Molong Sunday Golf Notes At the Royal Molong Golf Course on Sunday we played a nine hole ambrose zigzag event with twelve players competing. It was a zigzag event because we were trying to use those fairways that were in better condition than the others. We played holes one, two, five, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen and eighteen. The fairways we played on certainly weren’t as waterlogged as previous weeks with no swimming pools on the greens. Unfortunately the fairways haven’t been able to be mowed properly and a lot of sand has washed off the greens. It was good to see double the number of players we have had playing lately including Beau who played off a handicap of two and you can see why because he hits a lot of great shots. The good weather on Sunday certainly helped bring more players out to the course. The winners were Matt P and Blue with the runners up being Matt E and the Ghost Walker. Thanks to Bell for the bbq with

It will happen one day, Craig. For the third year in a row Crag Troth has been a near miss runner-up in the Molong Bowling Clubs’ Club Singles Champion Congratulations to Kevin Beatty on winning the mens major singles. Craig put up a great fight. But Kevin, as ever, was too consistent.

bacon, eggs, rissoles and sausages on offer with bread rolls and for washing up afterwards. My brother-in-law was at it again this week. This time he was reminiscing about when he was a kid. Apparently his parents would always say “excuse my French” just after using a swear word. He’ll never forget when he was at school and one of the teachers asked if any of them knew any French. Again at school, the teacher asked him to include the words: defence, defeat and detail in a sentence. He replied “when a horse jumps over defence, defeat go first and then detail.” Then there was the time when as a child he was at a wedding. He leaned over to his mate and asked, “how many wives can a man have?” His mate answered, “Sixteen…. four better, four worse, four richer, four poorer.”
