The countryside between Manildra/Cudal is looking magnificent with this Spring’s canola crop stretching as far as the eye can see. It’s worth taking a drive across Cabonne Country to take in the beauty of the changing landscape - compliments of hardworking crop growers who have been working tirelessly to plough, seed, and soon harvest until harvest time. With the unpredictable weather patterns every cropper, farmer, orchardist, food grower, grazier and their families should be given a genuine pat on the back for the risks/gamble they take each and every season with their high investments in creating ‘Cabonne - the Food Basket’. Changing weather patterns must be a nightmare! Manildra/Cudal ... Locals will welcome visitors to Manildra to stopover for a meal at Brianna’s Coffee on Kiewa and Cudal at the Cabonne Food & Wine Centre and the new coffee caravan now open right next door to the new saddlery and country clothing centre. Enjoy the beautiful days and views of spring in Cabonne’s gorgeous towns and villages.

“I was so happy to have a cuddle of this dear little one at Summerhill in Gidley Street last week”. This little ‘girl’ in the pink warm jacket cuddled up close when I picked her up from a very comfortable play pen where she was playing with her ‘brother’. She snuggled close and then cuddled up for a warm sleep. Another welcome sign of spring. Keep an eye out for the coming ‘Spring into Spring’ feature coming soon in the Molong Express and Orange Life - a joint initiative between the Express and Orange ‘Life’. We’re sure there will be some significant outcomes from this creative initiative between these two popular community and much loved newspapers. There will be more. Ten months late and tens of millions of dollars too short

Statement on Monday by Andrew Gee, Federal Member for Calare

It’s interesting to hear that the Shadow Minister for Emergency Management and Deputy Leader of the National Party, Senator Perin Davey, is scheduled to visit Eugowra and Cabonne on Tuesday. The storms and floods hit the Cabonne Shire and Wellington on the 13th and 14th of November 2022. It’s now the end of August 2023. That’s almost ten months later. So I ask the question, why? Why has it taken the Shadow Cabinet Minister tasked with the opposition’s disaster response and recovery policy almost ten months to set foot in these disaster-hit communities? Why didn’t the NSW National Party - which Senator Davey is a member of - and her NSW Ministerial colleagues activate the same level of support the Northern Rivers received for disaster-hit areas in the Central West when they were in government, and had the chance to do so? Ironically, now that the NSW Nationals are in opposition, they

think it should be activated! You can’t make this up. Of course it should be activated. They are the very party that should have done so! No wonder people are cynical about the major parties. After that dark day in November, we saw press conference after press conference, and concerned street walk after street walk by National Party members, yet a Northern Rivers-level of support was never activated for our region. As our disaster-hit residents struggled through loss and tragedy, the NSW Nationals and their Ministers dangled disaster relief packages in front of them like a bag of cash on a fishing pole then cruelly reefed it away, never delivering it. The NSW Nationals promised a lot and spent up big in Sydney in the lead up to the election, but they never properly funded disaster relief for the country people they say they represent. Sadly, Senator Davey’s visit to our disaster-hit towns is a case of ten months late, and tens of millions of dollars short.

Central NSW Councils tackle better readiness for Natural Disaster

With Central NSW hit by successive natural disasters over recent years, the 11 Councils of the Central NSW Joint Organisation are taking steps to do better at natural disaster readiness. To better prepare, Councils in the Central NSW region, with 49 other Councils across 7 jointly funded Joint Organisations that have been funded by the Australian and New South Wales Governments’ Disaster Risk Reduction Fund, will undertake a needs analysis of their LGAs to better understand the gaps in natural disaster preparedness with their communities. Leading professional services company GHD has been commissioned to lead the work. “Cabonne Local Government Area has been hit hard with 10 natural disasters declared in just 3 years with recovery efforts still continuing,” said Cr Kevin Beatty, Mayor of Cabonne and Chair of Central NSW Councils. “The need to prepare for unforeseen weather events is becoming more common. Floods, storms, bushfires are all expected to become more frequent and severe. We need to continually improve their local preparedness to

ultimately prevent and reduce the impacts of natural disasters on their communities,” said Cr Kevin Beatty “Some local government areas in Central NSW have been impacted by concurrent disasters over recent years. They’ve experienced it all from drought to floods, to landslips, Covid and fires, with one disaster starting before the other has been fully recovered from.” “We know that all levels of government need to do better particularly in working together in supporting community, this work supports the findings of the Royal Commission Report into Natural Disasters that found communities are not well prepared. “It is imperative that our communities are as best prepared as we can be for whatever mother nature throws at us. This project seeks to provide clear strategic direction for Councils in disaster preparedness moving forward."

Molong Central School has a new state of the art 3D printer

A BIG thank you to Cheryn

Di Whiting & Jan McIntyre organised a 'thank you' get together at Wildflower last Wednesday to acknowledge Cheryn Johnson for the time she spent keeping the ‘Always Active Group’ moving. As well as keeping us active - Cheryn also helped us to retain important social contact after the November floods demolished Heba’s gym - our usual meeting place. Thank you must also go to the RSL Club for providing their venue for our group. There were a few smiling and grimacing faces after the first few sessions at the new gym. But our group are also glad that life in Molong is getting back to normal again. So from the Always Active group to the new Forever Young may they stay strong, resilient & smiling. by Jan McIntyre and Di Whiting

Di Whiting, Cheryn Johnson & Jan McIntyre at the ‘Always Active Group’ thank you to our leader, Cheryn Johnson

Thank you to the Molong Central School P&C for the purchase of our new 3 D Printer. Our P&C members had an excursion to the Design and Technology Room to examine the 3D printer and to witness how the machine operates. Mr Scott, our new TAS Head Teacher explained the value of the devices for computer aided manufacturing and demonstrated their value. The P&C kindly supported the purchase of a new machine, which has already been installed and is in use with our classes. We would like to thank the P&C for its kind donation to the school. Well done to MCS P& C for providing this important equipment. Di Gorringe and Carole Gersbach at the ‘thank you’ to Cheryn Johnson at Wildflower in Gidley Street

Bright, happy, fun loving, professional, caring, nurturing, creative ... what more could be said about Molong’s Cheryn Johnson. When, where, whenever there is a need for help, Cheryn is there. Not only with the fabulous exercise classes and programs she puts together - but with any kind of help. Often, just a friendly hello is enough to know that Cheryn cares - genuinely, about others. Country footy vital to kick off good Wallaby careers Another example is when the November 2022 flood hit Molong. Who was there, covered in mud, working hard, helping others, but still smiling? Cheryn Johnson. A loss in town or in surrounding towns - who is there? Cheryn Johnson. This is one of Molong’s most valuable and respected residents and professionals. A treat for Mitch, Liam, Jock, Bill, Jaxx, Bella, Abbey, Bella in recognition of their individual dedication, committment, She deserves a medal! Maybe Australia Day and pastoral/christian care demonstrated at Molong’s St. Joseph’s Primary School. 2024 Molong Citizen of the Year nomination?? Pleased with their awards and treat at Lime & Stone, these students and others at the school are showing their Cabonne Council website is now calling for respect, kindness, good manners and care for others. Well done to this wonderful school! nominations. The chosen design for the Molong CBD Activation Project. Beauty above ground...chaos continuing underground. How does this create a better, safer place for the extended community?

Most will agree that Molong's CBD needs a 'facelift' - a beautification program and the improvement of pedestrian and vehicle safety aspects will be most welcomed. The good news is that Cabonne Council is on the case with a Government-funded program providing significant dollars so that Council can deliver the Molong CBD Activation Project - very soon. The project has been 'on the drawing board', so to speak, for at least two years with consultants working with Council to conduct community consultation, achieve design and

planning outcomes, and visionary outcomes for the further development of Molong. Well, that was prior to the minor storm/ major flooding events which occurred in the CBD during the La Nina 2021/22. The downpour created stormwater runoff throughout town ... and in turn, what became a regular flooding of shops, hotels and businesses in the lower areas of Bank and Watson Streets. Traders, business owners, building owners, and the wider community are, understandably, 'over' the now constant clean-up of minor

and major flooding and the enormous expense created by stormwater running down the overflowing gutters, into overflowing stormwater drains - which were designed for yesterday's weather patterns and not for what we now know as La Nina events - and climate change. The Express is keen to see the implementation of a major works program focussed on the needs of surface-water collection and disposal of as a critical pre-works program before the Molong CBD Activation Project commences. What do readers think?

It's not unusual for wallabies to be seen at Molong’s Rec, but more than 60 footy hopefuls gathered to see three of them last week in the hope of following their footsteps to success. Ex-Wallabies stars, Molong’s David Lyons, and teammates, Stirling Mortlock and Owen Finegan shared their secrets to success with young union players at a clinic organised by Molong Magpies. They know only too well that the future of Australian rugby starts with clubs like Molong – with every single young player at the clinic having the potential to play for their country one day. A lot of players who came through the ranks to Wallaby status were from country venues according to Mortlock, who has seen it first-hand in his 500-test point career. “The thing about our game is that’s it’s all about community,” he said. “When you go to country clubs for rugby, you can see the fabric and backbone of community.

REG’S BENCH A judge was interviewing a woman regarding her pending divorce, and asked, "What are the grounds for your divorce?" She replied, "About four acres and a nice little home in the middle of the property with a stream running by." "No," he said, "I mean what is the foundation of this case?" "It is made of concrete, brick and mortar," she responded. "I mean," he continued, "What are your relations like?" "I have an aunt and uncle living here in town, and so do my husband's parents." He said, "Do you have a real grudge?" "No," she replied, "We have a two-car carport and have never really needed one." "Please," he tried again, "is there any infidelity in your marriage?" "Yes, both my son and daughter have stereo sets. We don't necessarily like the music, but the answer to your questions is yes." "Ma'am, does your husband ever beat you up?" "Yes," she responded, "about twice a week he gets up earlier than I do." Finally, in frustration, the judge asked, "Lady, why do you want a divorce?" "Oh, I don't want a divorce," she replied. "I've never wanted a divorce. My husband does. He said he can't communicate with me!"

I went into a pet shop and asked if I could buy a goldfish, the bloke asked if I wanted an aquarium. I said I don’t care what star sign it is. What do you call an Aussie in the finals of the World Cup? A referee. A three-year old walks over to a pregnant lady while waiting with his mother in a doctor’s surgery. “Why is your stomach so big?” – he asks. “I´m having a baby.” – she replies. “Is the baby in your stomach?” – he asks, with his big eyes. “Yes, it is.” – she says. “Is it a good baby?” – he asks, with a puzzled look. “Oh, yes. A really good baby.” – the lady replies. Shocked and surprised, he asks: “Then why did you eat him?” Doctor.. How much do you weigh? Me.. 83kg with my glasses on Doctor.. OK .. JUNIOR SOCCER

Tiny Titans Triumph: Molong Phoenix's Unyielding Spirit Shines Against Orange Ex Services Wildcats! In a spectacle that could warm even the chilliest hearts, the pint-sized powerhouses of the Molong Phoenix's faced off against the feisty Orange Ex Services Wildcats on a sunny Saturday morning in Molong. Roaring onto the field with all the enthusiasm of a sugar-fuelled rocket, the Wildcats charged in with a fast-attacking style (including cartwheels.) Our valiant Phoenix's found themselves with their feathers ruffled, digging deep into their bravery reserves. At halftime, like magic, the trusty oranges worked their charm. With cheeks stuffed like squirrels hoarding acorns, our young warriors were ready to spread their wings and take on the challenge once again. As the second half unfolded, it was as if a phoenix was reborn from its own ashes. The defence, no longer wobbly, transformed into an iron wall of determination. Nellie, Quinnie, Clara, and Alex turned into the defensive dream team, confidently calling out plays, chasing opponents, and blocking goals as if they were guarding their secret lolly stash.

But the transformation didn't stop there. Our forwards, George, Rhylenn, and Dom, weaved their spells on the field, conjuring an exquisite goal - Future Striker George Meade, take a bow!. Let's not forget the duo behind this adorable army – our coaches Bec and Slash. With hearts bigger than the soccer field, they applauded our young champs for their grit and determination. Player of the Day was announced. In Coach Bec's words: "She was everywhere, all over the field at all times." Clara Ellis, a soccer whirlwind. Move over, Katrina Gorry. In the end, it wasn't just a soccer match; it was a tale of courage and growth. These under-6 legends showed that size doesn't matter when your heart and spirit are as big as the Saturday morning sun. Here's to the Mighty Molong Phoenix's – our tiny titans who teach us every week that even the smallest spark can ignite the brightest flame!. Cheers, Phoneix cheer squad!.

U10 Galah’s final home game In what would be the final home game of the season at Fortress Hunter Cardwell, it was imperative that we farewelled our hollo soil with a bang. The u10 Galahs did not disappoint. In a strong display of skill, team work and a never give up attitude, the Galah’s put on a master class. With outstanding efforts from every player on the field, we worked strongly as a team and kept pushing forward, keeping their defensive line very busy. With some slick passing and fancy footwork, we saw some amazing goals form Gil and Isaac in the first half, setting the standard with what was yet to follow. With some more sharp ball running and constant attack, the second half saw some more great goals, including a couple of crackers from Jack Piggot, who proved you can score from any position, which also saw Jack take out our player of the week. With a comprehensive victory to thank our fans, volunteers and the home ground we call Fortress Hunter Cardwell we couldn't have given it a better send off. With only a few rounds left of the season, the Galah’s have set the scene for what should be a fantastic last few games. Coach Wade.

U5 Hawk’s Player of the Week, Jayla May, Congratulations, Jayla!.

Player of the week, Clara Ellis

The Powerful Owls had a great win against Waratah’s. This weeks player of the week was awarded to George Squires, well done!. 18

Molong Golf by the Ghost Walker Spring sprung a week early and it was a beautiful morning for golf at the Royal Molong Golf Course on Sunday. There was very little breeze and everything was great for golf. Mick Philpott was his usual chirpy self, sledging me before we had even hit off. Mick considers his body a temple because for sure it’s ancient, crumbling, possibly cursed and definitely haunted. Matt Philpott was back from his overseas sojourn where he managed to get a couple of golf games in. Mark Frazer was supposed to be away but got back early for golf. Troy Warner was slow to warm up but then played some great shots. Scott Oates was also back from his coastal adventures. Matt Earle was also home after being away working up near St. George just over the New South Wales border in Queensland. It was good to see Doug Watson out having a hit with us and I didn’t hear much about Stubba’s or Bally’s games so they must have had quiet games. Bell was there but again was the golf cart driver and probably the scorer for the group. Al Evans was missing without a note so he’ll cop it next week. The showground committee and helpers were out there having a cleanup for the Molong show which is on Sunday September seventeenth but we managed to avoid hitting any of them with our golf shots. There were ten players and we played a two person ambrose with Matt Earle and myself just scraping in by one shot ahead of three of the other teams with the same score and the fifth team a few shots back. Matt and I played in a group with Troy and Mick and the scores were fluctuating all game but somehow we managed a win. Troy hit a couple of great shots on the

Sport Disc Golf National Championships coming to Molong After a year of application and deliberation, it has been announced by The Australian Disc Golf Board that the 2024 Australian Disc Golf Championships will be held here in Molong. The Central West Disc Golf Club, based here in Molong, was able to develop and submit a detailed application for the right to host this huge event, which will see up to 400 players descending on Molong to compete in the biggest event on the Australian Disc Golf calendar. With the competition to be held over two consecutive weekends, this will be one of the biggest sporting events ever to be held in Molong and a massive coup for the Central West. This event also falls on the weekend after Australia, for the first time ever, hosts the World Disc Golf Teams Championships, which is being held in Perth. As a result, we could be seeing the best players not just from across Australia, but from across the world heading over to compete on our great, championship-level course and firmly cement

Molong on the international Disc Golf map. With the rapid growth of the sport, this event could fill up very soon after registrations open early next year and will see huge numbers of people travelling into our region bringing huge financial benefits to local businesses, cafes, accommodation, and attractions. A significant part of the success of the Molong bid has been our beautiful town’s great facilities, a magnificent course, and the local hospitality which has been so widely commented on when we have previously hosted big events, such as last year’s NSW Open. Keep an eye and ear out for announcements as we get closer to the tournament, but this will be a massive event with a lot of energy, buzz, and excitement. If you are interested in trying out this great sport and seeing what all the hype is about why not get out and have a round on our great little course, with layouts from beginners to expert. Check out Central West Disc Golf on Facebook for more information.

eighteenth hole and parred the hole which being rated the hardest hole on the course is not an easy feat. Cumnock is having a weekend of golf on Saturday and Sunday the ninth and tenth of September. I think they are having a eighteen hole mixed Fourball best ball event on the Saturday and their eighteen holes Men’s Open Tournament on the Sunday. I’m sure there will be players from Molong out there on both days. Golf again on Sunday, 8.30am for 9am. I hope it is a beautiful day weather wise like last Sunday What a brilliant year for local sport including and we have plenty of players out on the course. the efforts of the Cabonne United Roos Junior Rugby League Club. It is wonderful to see mixed teams of enthusiastic boys and girls who through training and playing footy together are learning to treat each other respectively both on and off the field. Well done to the team members - and, their coaches, and family supporters who have been heading onto the fields - sometimes after long travel to play for their towns. Well done!
