Simple Tips to Perfect Your LinkedIn Profile This Year One of the best things you can do to make 2017 a success is build and nurture your network, and implementing the LinkedIn tips below is one of the simplest and most effective ways of doing just that.

4. In your summary section, speak directly to your best prospects, using “you” as much as possible, so they know that you understand their market and their needs. (See how Karen McElmoyle does that here.)

Your profile has to be strong and it must emphasize your strengths and aspirations to attract the people you want to work with as you grow professionally.

5. Use “calls to action” to tell visitors what to do, like visit your web site or sign up for a free chat. Don’t assume they will know the best next step without being prompted. (See how Amy Posner does that here.)

So if you haven’t updated it lately, this is a perfect time to do so. Here are 8 best practices to make sure your profile is ready to connect. 1. Use your LinkedIn profile to reinforce your targeted positioning and your niche so when your best prospects land there, they say, “This is exactly who we need.” (See how Stephanie Helline does that here.) 2. Make sure your title (or headline)—the #1 most important element of your profile — conveys clearly what you do and for whom. Feel free to use slashes and hyphens to make the most of that small space. (See how Wendy Wood does that here.)

6. Litter your profile with keywords (a.k.a. your specialties) to take advantage of the fact that LinkedIn is essentially a professional search engine. (See how Rebecca Bauer Ritz does that here.) 7. Give recommendations and endorsements to people you’ve worked with, especially your clients. You’ll be surprised how much easier it will be to get them when you give first. (More on that here.) 8. Repost material from your blog to expand your content marketing, show what you know and position yourself as an expert in your field. (See how Laura Foley does that here.)

3. Use a photo or headshot that is professional and friendly. Illustrators, use that space to show off your work.

WHAT'S YOUR NETWORKING STYLE? PART FOUR BY RONNIE ROLL

This is Part Four of a series to help you recognize your natural networking style and perhaps explore a few others. The Flower – The Hummingbird’s built for speed. The Bumblebee coaxes clients into doing business, and the Ant’s networking style is built around timing. There’s one more networking style to talk about – the Flower! The Flower networker believes they have something everyone needs and wants. All they need to do is let folks see that, and opportunities will just happen. After all, in a garden we see the bumblebee, the hummingbird and the ant all swarming to the flower, don’t we?

The upside to this style is that the Flower networker spends very little energy trying to track down business opportunities, and instead, positions themselves as The Opportunity. The downside is that the Flower must be very good at motivating others to want to approach them, since they do little to seek out business in other ways. In a garden, there is a place for all – the hummingbird, bumblebee, ant and flower

This is also true when networking. Before attending any event, consider the attendees, the forum, and make a plan on how you wish to network ahead of time. Be flexible, however, if you arrive and your read of the situation is that you would function better using a different style. Mastering all of these styles and discerning when to use each will help the business professional capitalize upon opportunities in a variety of different settings. Become a Master Gardener and your garden will grow abundantly! Ronnie Roll is a strategist and coach specializing in walking entrepreneurs down the path of business righteousness, building small businesses quickly and respectfully from the ground up. She is available to help individuals or organizations through one-on- one coaching, in-person3 presentations or live webinars. Ronnie Roll can be reached through her website: www.ronnieroll.com.

Contracts 101 WORDS BY XIA

Are you in the services industry? Are you providing business coaching, house cleaning, or nutritional counselling? No matter what business you own, every business should have a standard agreement to execute with clients. Long Term Care is an important part of any retirement. In fact, no retirement plan is complete without it. Why? Because the odds are so high and the cost can be crushing. According to US Government Statistics, the odds are 70% that an individual will need care. As a result, the odds are 91% that either husband or wife will need Long Term Care. With that said, the cost can be from $60,000 to $90,000 per year for care – or more. And those are after tax dollars. Think of how much you would have to withdraw from a 401K or IRA to cover Long Term Expenses for 3 years. Assume care was only $60,000 per year ($5,000 per month) – times 3 years – that’s $180,000 after tax. Depending on your tax situation, you might have to withdraw over $250,000 from your

LONG TERM CARE IS N0 LONGER OPTIONAL 401k orIRA.meditative and spiritual core. One of the six major And that’s later in life after you have spent quite a bit in retirement. What is the surviving spouse going to live on? Now that we know that LTC is a good idea, the next problem is selecting the right carrier. Not all carriers or policies are created equal. Some have temporary premiums that are fixed and level. Others have premiums until claim or death, and premiums can increase. Some have a death benefit in case you don’t use the care, others do not. Finding the right policy can be just as important as knowing you need one. Given the high odds, a LTC insurance policy is worth considering and can be available immediately if you need

it now, and benefits are tax free. A LTC policy protects your retirement assets, and covers both “at home” and “nursing home” expenses. It is far less expensive to pay the premiums, than to pay for care. A LTC policy provides a better quality of life for the insured and financial protection for the surviving spouse and family. Would you rather give your assets to your children or a care provider? Based on the 70% to 91% odds of needing care and the huge cost, it is better to prepare ahead of time. I would be glad to discuss and answer questions. Steve Catena, MBA – 310-210-9193.

Shared Spaces One of the challenges of the challenges of working from home is the need for a change of space from time to time. So in this section we will explore and review various options throughout the city. Like a restaurant review, we will share the experience. I have started the research and found there are 8 well known spaces: RedFlint, Innevation Center, Co-operate on Main, Work In Progress (Downtown and Southwest), The Coop, Urban Chamber of Commerce Business Development Center and Henderson Business Resource Center. So when you feel collaborating, cooperating, co-working, then you will save time by dropping into the space that suits your needs.

BUSINESS LEGAL BASICS How do I Name my Corporation? BY JAY YOUNG, LAS VEGAS NEVADA BUSINESS LITIGATION ATTORNEY, ARBITRATOR AND MEDIATOR In Nevada, there are very few restrictions on what name can be given to a corporation. First, a corporation may not be the name or initials of a natural person unless it also contains and additional designation such as “Incorporated,” “Limited,” “Inc.,” “Ltd.,” “Company,” “Co.,” “Corporation,” “Corp.,” or other word which identifies it as not being a natural person. NRS 78.035. Second, the name “must be distinguishable . . . from the names of all other” companies registered with the Nevada Secretary of State. NRS 78.039. Finally, the name may not insinuate that the corporation is a “bank” or “trust,” associated with a regulated industry unless it has approval to do so by the appropriate state agency which regulates that industry. NRS 78.045. A more practical concern is whether a chosen name infringes on the trademark of another business. A prudent business owner will determine that the proposed business name does not infringe on that of another. There are both state and federal trademarks to consider.

Jay Young is a Las Vegas, Nevada attorney. His practice focuses on business law, business litigation, and acting as an Arbitrator and Mediator. Peers have named him an AV-Rated Lawyer, Best Lawyers, a Top 100 Super Lawyers in the Mountain States multiple years, and to the Legal Elite and Top Lawyers lists for many years.
