WHAT'S YOUR NETWORKING STYLE? By Ronnie Roll

Part One

This is Part One of a series to help you recognize your natural networking style and perhaps explore a few others. There are several networking styles. Over the next few weeks we'll examine different styles and how they can work for you. It's Spring, so why not use Mother Nature as our example? The Hummingbird â&#x20AC;&#x201C; A hummingbird is very fast! They flit about so quickly that sometimes it's even hard to see them. They're designed for speed and their beaks are quick to penetrate a blossom to reach the nectar with the least amount of effort. The hummingbird networker has designed a series of questions in advance of a networking event that probe quickly and to the point, determining if someone is a prospect or is someone they want to get to know. Within a few minutes they have extracted that information and they're on to the next person at the event. This style works well when there are a lot of people in a room and little is known about the attendees. It takes a lot of energy to use this style, and for those who are more introverted, it may feel quite uncomfortable. The upside to this style is that a networker can cover a lot of ground in a short period of time and pass out as many cards as they can carry. The hummingbird is very good at letting everyone know who to seek out if they need their products, services, etc. The downside is that some potential flowers may not be receptive to this style, and close up instead. It also provides the networker with little information about prospects because there isn't much time to learn about each person before moving on to the next one. Does this style speak to you?
