Do it right!

Greetings from the Danish National President Do it right! As national president for JCI Denmark 2014, I’m very proud to issue this action plan. JCI is buzzing with energy and ambitious people who wants to go far to create an environment where we can create great results and at the same time develop ourselves - together. Our versatile program and opportunities meet our members on different levels and as an organization, we are proud to witness the development each member meets as long as they meet new challenges.

must make the initiative to do something about the things you think could be done better.

We are an organization of versatile diversity. I am proud of the versatility I meet in JCI and most of all proud of the common interest to create something greater and better. It is omnipresent on every level in over 100 countries no matter which challenges the immediate environment meets.

I take pride in the work I do for JCI. I’m proud of the results, creativity and the eagerness which the members of JCI all over the world emprise. It is with our help that malaria kills fewer children, that disaster-struck receive faster help and that the understanding of cultural difference increases. In Denmark it is our members who provide poor children with summer vacation; send students in business internships or create awareness on the conditions of violence victims. We are a group of young powerful people that take responsibility and make en positive difference – do you know the sentence? It is our mission and we are living it out.

Our projects and the difference we make begin on an individual level. It’s you as members who create the difference, and in 2014 that is exactly what I expect of you: You

This is my request to you as member: Take responsibility and show to the world what JCI is. Show that you dare to take a standpoint and act on it. Show you as the leader who

gets other people engaged and last but not least: ensure to tell others about it. We are not a secret. I am proud when members develop themselves through their commitment to JCI. I am proud to contribute to this, but I am even more proud to be a part of an organization that provides the tools. These tools I proudly share with you all and I hope you as proud member will bring your commitment in JCI into focus. Let people know that you are a member. Let them know how it has contributed to the person you are. Let us together create a strong organization that have the influence, we claim to have. There are many young people who deserve the great opportunity, experience and the development that we receive in JCI. In 2014 we will focus on quality with the slogan: Do it right! We shall be professional, serious and proactive. You will be introduced with new initiatives on our committee for membership that in the future will have dual focus, respectively on the introduction of new members plus the continued development for the existing members.

Furthermore, the national JCI Day will be used to show everyone around us who we are and what we can do. When we work together we stand stronger and therefore we will as national organization support your local work. We look forward to creating attention for the local organizations and the whole organization together with all of you on JCI-day the 30. April 2014. In 2014, we want a firm focus on the branding of our organization. We shall all be able to answer the question “What is JCI?” Our logo must be recognized by more people and we will promote ourselves more in both Danish and English as we continue to start up new international departments. There will be additional initiatives which shall benefit our entire organization and as a national organization, we look forward to working alongside with you to strengthen your local organizations. I look forward to a tremendous 2014!

Let’s do it together – unite to impact – and let’s do it right the first time.

Do it right!

Eva Hye Langkjær Nationalpræsident JCI Danmark 2014

Program 2014 A journey where the bar is set high The tone is set, the work gloves are out, the energy is refueled – it’s ready, set, go on January 1st 2014 where the team behind the program area is ready to take JCI Denmark to new heights. In 2014, we will focus on 6 areas: HR, training, development, national projects, partnerships and support; 6 areas which will all contribute to the growth of our members and move our organization in a positive direction. The level of ambition is similar to the basket hoop in the 5th grade: The hoop seemed very high up, but with energy, enthusiasm and a great amount of will, we got it right. The team behind the program area has the will and enthusiasm that will help take JCI Denmark to new heights. When we stand united, cooperate and use the expertise set in the best way possible, we can make miracles. My challenge to you is this: use the many resources of the program

area and call out when the challenges become too great. The program area will be ready in 2014, to serve your local organization, so make sure to use it. Claus Rasmussen, Executive Vice President of Programs. JCI Support As a staff function, we support all members of JCI Denmark with the tools, the experience and the knowledge that makes it even more fun and easier to do awesome activities in JCI. Our tool box: • HR • Project work and partnerships • The holding of awesome division events • Marketing and branding • Financial management • Business related activities

Development

Creating important experiences for our colleagues Development and evaluation of JCI

Getting projects to a higher level

We must be able to set a value on the strong projects that put JCI on the map and makes the value of JCI clear to everyone, so all JCI members can put the value of their membership into words.

How can our projects be better implemented and how do our members become better project leaders? What is the next step in regards to the training/educations and possibilities that we already have?

This will happen through focus on 3 main areas:

Defining the value of a membership

JCI Day JCI will be put on the map through an externally branded national event. On April 30th 2014, all local organizations will host a local event that will show what JCI is and what it can do.

What value does a JCI membership have from a personal and career point of view? We will examine this based on the experiences and growth of previous as well as current members.

We will work hard to put JCI on the map in 2014 and develop JCI into an even more valuable product and network.

Training

Increasing the members’ competences The training area shall secure the members’ personal development and at the same time strengthen the members to develop JCI as an organization. JCI´s mission is to secure that we will receive impact in our local community and that is what the training area will support among other things. The team behind training in 2014 wishes to create a firmer structure and transparency that makes it easier to find and to arrange

trainings, the training gets closer to the members and the members will know befit of participating in the training. To support the development of the trainers we have selected a person specific this field. Maria Thuesen Beck, JCI Randers, will work with other experienced trainers and have focus on the wishes and needs of the existing trainers and make it possible for upcoming trainers to receive advice and guidance to get started as a trainer.

The training area will have specific focus on following main areas:      

Quick guide to arranging good trainings Max. 3 clicks with the mouse on jci.dk to find a given training Extension of the training catalogue Min. 5 active trainers in official and recommended JCI courses Buddy agreement to get new trainers started During 2014 each regional organization will host JCI Impact, JCI Achieve and JCI Admin with support from the national training team.

Partnerships

Uniting sectors Partnerships have always been an important part of JCI activities. The partnerships have had very different shapes, from sponsors to close partnerships, where JCI members work side by side with the partners and it have been with both organizations and companies. At the 2013 world congress in Rio de Janeiro, JCI have finalized a new 5 year strategy for 2014-2018. The overall objectives are to unite all sectors of society. This means that we among other things have to think partnerships even wider than so far and make a harder effort to be the facilitator, what bring together the right people. In other words, we must focus less on finding resources only within JCI but ensure that partner from different sectors are being brought into play and will contribute to the right projects with knowledge and resources. Specifically, JCI Denmark will work in favour of a national partnership summit, where JCI must take responsibility and be the factor that

brings partners from different parts of our community together. We will also be working on increasing the awareness in the younger generation to take responsibility for themselves and the society. The two - responsibility for themselves and the society - are inextricably linked, and we need this message to be visible with where the youth are. In addition we plan to get a partnership with a media agency. JCI Finland have achieved good results of using a professional media company as a partner, in order to make both JCI and the projects visible, and we wish to benefit from their experience. Furthermore, we need to make a higher effort to have our partnerships maintained and made visible to our local organizations. To achieve this, the group working with Partnerships will be working closely together with our Communication and Branding group as well as HR and Development.

Projects

Ensuring action Through the nationally driven projects, JCI gets both the opportunity to show visibility and to offer development opportunities at an even larger scale to our members. Projects are also the activities that enable us to enter into active partnerships with different groups in our local community at all levels, and thus let JCI live out our mission – to make a difference. At this point, 2 larger events have been agreed for 2014 to run on a National level. The first one is the JCI Day on April 30th 2014, which is an event chaired by the Development team, and thus described under Development. More info on the JCI Day will follow in spring 2014, so make sure to keep an eye on JCI Nyt, Facebook and other official JCI media. The second event is “JCI In Motion”, which will be held in October 2014. The goal with JCI in Motion is to have a baton move though JCI Denmark by the members’ physical

movement as a prelude to the large Danish cancer collection week, “Knæk Cancer”, and to finish in the studio live on national television with a donation to “Knæk Cancer”, chaired by Kræftens Bekæmpelse” Common for both projects is that all local organizations are invited to participate, both projects provide visibility of the local organizations and JCI Denmark, and both projects provide plenty of opportunities for the development of our members. There will be support from the national team so that all local organizations can participate in a bigger or smaller way, and all local organizations can benefit from the publicity that the projects will provide for JCI Denmark. We also have a dream to do a project that focuses on the social responsibility we all have as citizens, but this is still to be developed. So far it is important that the first two projects get a good start, and live up to our slogan for 2014 : Do it right!

HR

Welcoming new members Human Resources (HR) is the new “it” in JCI Denmark in 2014, and yet not. It's really just old wine on new bottles, but the new name is an important part of getting JCI more easily understandable to the surroundings. JCI is a network that creates value when we use it, and therefore it is very important that our members quickly get started using this network. With the introduction of HR to cover the two areas we previously called MEC (Membership) and IND (Individual development), we focus on the entire lifecycle of the members. By integrating welcoming procedures and personal development in the same organization, we ensure that all members are active.

events also to ensure a longer retention. Satisfied members are also more loyal and better ambassadors, and it is through the good experiences of our own members that we must be 1000 members as per January 1st, 2015.

Why should we ensure active members? Because the active members are more satisfied, and therefore HR is to ensure a faster integration and through activities and

To support the local HR work the national HR team will have focus on the following:    

A competition for best local HRwork Support to give local organizations an attractive website Assist in the establishment of local HR functions in local committees A script to create local welcoming kits and assistance to get them integrated Ensuring integration through a local buddy system

MEC

IND

HR

HR

Ensuring members’ continued development Besides attraction and integration of new members, we want to increase the focus on retention of members. Not only should we become more members, we must also stay members for a longer time and each one of us needs to have the opportunities for development and learning throughout our membership. From a national level, we cannot reach out to all members and therefore the local boards and the local presidents from 2013 are important parts in ensuring the retention of members. The former presidents are the ones who know the individual local organizations the best, and this information may not be lost. It must be used to the benefit of the presidents and local organizations. Knowledge, tools and communication become the focal points, as described in these activities:

 

We must have made a member survey at the beginning of the year to ensure the proper knowledge of our members' needs and desires for development. Member survey is to be targeted both at coming, current and past members. All members must be offered personalized action plan, so the boards have better knowledge of their members’ wishes. The boards' education is to be extended with workshops at national events including with participation of professional board members. Potential board members should have a better understanding of the board's role and tasks through JCI Admin courses Establishment of a direct hotline for boards that can be used to ensure motivation, focus on goals and conflict mediation . Increased engagement of 2013 Past Presidents in board and HR work.

International Relations Creating multi-cultural understanding In 2014, the international work will have a prominent place in JCI Denmark. With the appointment of an International Relations and Partnerships Director, we ensure that we get both inspiration and knowledge from our sister organizations outside of Denmark. This information will be used both nationally and in the local organizations. We will provide more information in English language for those members who are not familiar with the Danish language. This is to ensure that cities without an international local organization still have something to offer non-Danish-speaking guests, and it will also improve the integration of new international local organizations during their startup. The information will be produced as newsletters and by small videos. Once a

month, our national newsletter, JCI Update, will be published in English with articles from local Danish organizations as well as from other countries. In cooperation with the national communications team, we need to find the good stories and to get them translated to English. Some of the stories will be revealed in videos and distributed via the JCI Denmark YouTube channel. The last part of the international plan of action for ensuring mutual understanding is cooperation across national borders. With the establishment of JCI Challenge on Malta 9-10 June 2014, JCI Denmark is in charge of a truly multi -national project that has already twice proved its value as a unique place to learn new cultures and expand its network while having fun and supporting a good cause.

Communication & Branding

Telling the story… With the increasing amount of social media and overflow of information, easily accessible and ditto understandable communication has become even more important to our organization. In 2014, the national communication area will undergo some changes. Besides the fact that our national PR manager will be appointed as branding manager in 2014, we have decided to redefine the interfaces between the communication manager and the PR and branding manager. The communication manager will be given the responsibility to find the good stories and make sure they’re told in an understandable

manner. It is also the responsibility of the communication manager has to ensure that the activities of the national board are visible to all members in order to ensure transparency about the national board’s work. In 2014, a great deal of the branding manager’s activities will be centered on optimizing the electronic media of JCI i.e. our online members database, www.jci.dk, www.jcinyt.dk etc. Ensuring that information is easily accessible on relevant platforms and in usable form as well as ensure the right appearance on all platforms is all placed under the PR and Branding Manager in 2014.

JCI Denmark as an organization Room for local diversity‌ JCI is a member driven organization where every activity is decided by the members. We are engaged in many different local organizations, which are divided into five geographical regions. To ensure the daily operations, compliance of the strategy and communication into every part of the organization, we have a national board to support the local organizations, the international obligations and our national president who is our ambassador and represents JCI Denmark. The national board works with various programs defined by our national president. The specifics of these programs are described in this folder. Part of the national board sits in the executive committee which administrates the day to day operations. The entire board meets ten times a year to evaluate the progress of the action plan.

Furthermore, there are a couple of strictly administrative positions to ensure the financial aspect as well as formalities and the secretariat. In order to ensure proximity to the local chambers, the regional vice presidents are a part of the national board. Their presence supports the flow of information from the national board to the members and vice versa. In addition to the national strategy, each vice president has an action plan based on the individual needs of their region. The presentation of these individual action plans take place on the regional general assemblies. A few things is in common for all the action plans, they must ensure a good start of the year and collaboration and visibility across the local organizations in their respective regions.

Must-win battles Strategically important tasks for JCI Danmark. A. Local organizations deliver quality Every local organization in JCI Denmark has to deliver quality in the work they do. This must be reflected in our cooperation with partners and members, to ensure that we proudly continue to take responsibility and make a positive difference for ourselves and the society. We have won when: Member satisfaction increases at the end of the year, relative compared to the beginning of the year. B. The JCI day We need to show the world around us who we are and what we can do. As a national organization, we wish to support the local organizations, because we are stronger when we work together. We look forward to eye-catching events in the individual local organizations and in the organization in general at the JCI Day on. We have won when: All local organizations in Denmark take part in activities at the JCI Day on April 30 2014. C. Visibility through branding In 2014, we want to have a strong focus on the branding of our organization. We must be the organization whose members talk about their participation and membership with pride. JCI must be a natural topic of conversation in our everyday lives and we need to focus wider than just for our own members. We have won when: External media seeks out our stories, measured with at least 1 story in a national television or newspaper.

THE STRATEGIC MAP OF JCI DANMARK Our Vision "We will be the leading network for young active people who take responsibility and make a positive difference for themselves and for the society." Our Strategy We will identify challenges in our communities, and through high quality projects generate sustainable solutions. We want to create strong ties with partners in the community to share resources and experiences, to create greater positive difference. We will ensure activities in each local organization member that motivates and engage the members and enlarge their skills. We will work diligently to create awareness about our organization. We will gather and inform about our history, the good stories and best practices, so it can inspire and motivate us to stay focused on our mission in the community. Our Values In JCI we work at all levels, nationally and internationally, from the following values declared in our Creed THE CREED We believe: That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life;
 That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations;
 That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise;
 That government should be of laws rather than of men;
 That Earth's great treasure lies in human personality; And that service to humanity is the best work of life.

Our Mission To provide development opportunities that empowers young people to create positive change.

JCI will be the organization that unites all sectors across society to create sustainable impact

Special appraisals

The slogan for 2013 was “Just Do It”. Throughout the year, the national board has been working determinedly for the appointed program, and we wish to praise some of the most outstanding efforts. JCI and UN The cooperation between JCI and the United Nations dates back to 1948, and in 2013 we have been paying special attention to the many activities, this long cooperation has produced. We have promoted this internally in Denmark, on the European conference in Monaco and last but not least by a visit to the new UN City in Copenhagen during the Danish national congress in October 2013. ”I” for international 2013 became a memorable year for the international work in JCI Denmark. The internal local organization in Copenhagen celebrated its 10 years anniversary, and the international footprint has expanded to Jutland, where two international local organizations are starting up. In IkastBrande, the new international organization

was spurred by local textile group Bestseller and by working closely with the local Rotary clubs. The local organization is very close to its first and founding general assembly. In Horsens, the new international local organization has kick started through an entrepreneurship cluster at University College VIA in cooperation with a local expat organization. The 2014 national board pays great attention to ensuring the integration of the new international local organizations. From one JCI member to another In JCI we call adult education for training. At international level, the training activities have been under evaluation since June 2012. This has made it hard to navigate as trainers and organizers in local organizations, and as a result of this limbo, official Trainer forums were restarted. It was decided to make an official training work shop at the national congress, so the national general assembly could get some input to the training area. In 2014, we will continue to keep a close eye on the training area, as it’s of great importance that all trainers keep pursuing improving their skills.

1 and 1 can become 3.... JCI Denmark has a tradition of hosting two national training events with two separate purposes. At National Project Management Day and National Development Day, JCI member from the entire country have the opportunity to meet for 1 day of intensive learning, with a nice sideeffect of increased knowledge sharing. In February 2013, more than 50 JCI members met in Aarhus and learned about Happy Projects from Lasse Sørensen and Myron de Leon Hoppe. Happy Projects is a methodology for ensuring happiness at work and a good working climate in project management, applied to Prince 2 and agile project management tools. In June, 60 members participated in 8 different workshops to develop themselves and the organization. Heidi of Denmark JCI has several official competitions, with the purpose of improving the skills of our members. One of them is a public speaking contest called "Den Gyldne Mikrofon. Heidi Larsen from JCI HolbÌk has spoken her way to to the top via 6 speeches at local, regional, national and European level, winning them all and getting a place in the world finals at the world congress in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In Rio, Heidi was competing against speakers from India, Canada and Tunesia. The speakers are judged by a set of rules

including body language, structure, flow, choice of words, time, intonation, humour and feelings. The judges are selected from a list of trained judges from non-participating countries. Heidi's speech was a great performance, awarding her with the runner up for 2. place, only beaten by the speaker from JCI Canada. We are so proud of Heidi!

Shadow for a day JCI Vejle has teamed up with local businesses to help high school students get a better start to their career. Project Job Shadow pairs up the young students with an employee from a local business for one day, which provides the students with a hands-on experience to the daily life in the real business world. Furthermore, the experience gives the participants a network that can help in their future student and business careers. Besides benefitting the students, the project aims at helping to retain the students in the local area after they finish their education. They will visit exciting business in the Vejle area, wich in turn means that JCI Vejle will benefit from the project too. , This year, the project group has succeeded in getting 54 internships at 23 different local businesses. The next step in the project is for the students to apply for the job function they want to follow in a given business. JCI Vejle expects to grow the project next year, with the help from the official sector.

The Vice President Team

Transparent communication in 2014 The regional presidents are called vice presidents of operations, are the glue that keeps local organizations, local presidents and the national board of JCI Denmark together. As a team, we have decided to place our emphasis on providing as much information, tools, knowledge sharing and sparring as possible. We have five very different regions in Denmark, with individual needs, but they share the need for knowledge sharing. As executive vice president of operations, my primary role is to ensure that the team of vice president are always up to date with the necessary knowledge, so they in turn are ready to support the local presidents when the need occurs. The vice presidents and I have agreed that 2014 becomes the year where nobody falls behind. We plan to ensure this by keeping up a higher meeting frequency, increasing the level of sparring and ensuring to make use of the resources available in the national board

and in the local chapters. We have also prepared a back up plan, i.e. a contact list for each individual with back up in case of overload. The vice presidents are facing a tough year with many requests via emails and visits in the local organizations plus other activities scheduled in their individual plans of action projects, courses, trainings, seminars. As their manager of the team, I want to make sure they keep up the motivation by focusing on their personal development and give them a personal experience, whcih they would not experience without this role. I have planned a VP-Team weekend, where we will be challenged individually on the personal level as well as on the level of knowledge! We have defined our success like this: Meeting our goals for 2014 will in turn mean that we have found the recipe for running voluntary organization.
