What’s new

ALTO

Boxing legend Carl Froch has opened his latest venture. Located on the top floor of Nottingham’s, The Cornerhouse, Alto opened to the public on Friday 3 August.

The new bar is part of a joint venture between Carl Froch, John Glover, Marc Brough and Rebecca Brough, who have a wealth of previous experience in the bar and restaurant scene.

The bar’s rooftop terrace has been completely refurbished for guests to enjoy the remaining summer sun, on loungers with their favourite cocktail in hand and music from the outside DJ booth.

Carl Froch said: “Alto is the only bar in Nottingham to have a rooftop terrace – there’s nothing like looking at the city skyline with an amazing drink in hand surrounded by your mates. We want to be known as the place you go for a guaranteed great time – the new interiors, drinks, and entertainment on offer won’t disappoint.”

Inside, four bars will offer tasty drinks and tapas inspired dishes, with a dedicated dance floor area and exclusive VIP section.

Marc Brough added: “People will associate Alto with a fantastic, fun night out. Yes, you can relax on the terrace and enjoy a drink but you can also finish the night on the dancefloor. The last thing we wanted was a bar where you have one drink and then you’re bored – you’ll find yourself getting up for one song and staying until we close.”

BAR + BLOCK arrival we were instantly hit with their WHETHER YOU FANCY STARTING Upon beautiful modern interior. After promptly being YOUR DAY WITH A STEAK AND seated we were poured some water as we began looking over the drinks menu. EGG BREAKFAST, TUCKING Offering a wide selection of drinks from cocktails INTO AN EXPRESS LUNCH to draught beers, spirits to soft drinks, Bar + Block OR INDULGE IN ONE OF THEIR have lots to choose from. FAMOUS STEAKS, BAR + BLOCK NEXT CAME OUR MAINS AND HAVE GOT YOU COVERED WE WERE VERY EXCITED.! WITH A CAREFULLY SELECTED, During our visit we settled on two of their DELICIOUS MENU. mocktails: Tiki Mocki and Cherry Bakewell. A After recently opening in the heart of Nottingham, Bar + Block are the newest Steakhouse to hit the scene! Located in Nottingham’s City Centre within Chapel Quarter, Bar + Block are open 6:30am – 11pm Monday – Friday and 7am – 11pm Saturday – Sunday.

6 | IN Nottingham | September 18

tropical mix of mint, orange, pineapple and lime juice, the Tiki Mocki cocktail is perfect for anyone with a bit of a sweet tooth! The Cherry Bakewell is one of Bar + Block’s best sellers and we can certainly see why! With a mix of cherry purée, amaretto flavoured syrup and cranberry, it was delicious! If you’re looking for a mocktail, we highly recommend trying these!

Whilst looking over the menu a member of staff brought over some complimentary beef stock popcorn. I know what you’re thinking, this sounds odd, but we were pleasantly surprised and it’s something we think everyone should try! We started off by ordering some of their tandoori chicken wings. The tender chicken against the subtle tandoori spice created a delicious start to our meal. Next came our mains and we were very excited!

THE TENDER AND SUCCULENT STEAK HAD SUCH A DELICATE FLAVOUR AGAINST THE SUBTLE SPICE FROM THE CHIMICHURRI SAUCE.

SLOWLY BUT SURELY WE WERE FILLING UP AND THE THOUGHT OF SOMETHING SWEET WASN’T TEMPTING, UNTIL WE SAW THEIR CHOCOLATE CHURROS SUNDAE! We ordered their BBQ smoked pork belly with apple slaw, pickles and French fries. Wow! The pork belly was deliciously tender and so full of flavour – we highly recommend.

You can’t go to Bar + Block Steakhouse without trying one of their steaks; hand cut by their expert chefs on-site, you can have your chosen steak as big as you like!

The crispy pulled tender beef tossed in hoisin sauce, cucumber, spring onion, chilli and coriander was incredible and so full of flavour, the perfect additions to our mains. Slowly but surely we were filling up and the thought of something sweet wasn’t tempting, until we saw their chocolate churros sundae. Churros coated in cinnamon sugar, served with vanilla ice cream, salted caramel ice cream, brownie chunks, cream and chocolate toffee sauce – need I say anymore? All I will say is that this is a good sharing dessert, the two of us were defeated! If you couldn’t tell already, IN Magazine had an incredible time down at Bar + Block and we highly recommend the next time you’re in Nottingham City Centre that you pay them a visit. We can’t wait to go back!

We decided on their Sirloin 8oz steak paired with beef dripping triple cooked chunky chips. The tender and succulent steak had such a delicate flavour against the subtle spice from the chimichurri sauce. There’s no question about it, this it’s a definite must try – “discover steak done differently.” To accompany our mains, we also ordered a side of onion rings and their Asian crispy beef. As far as onion rings go, these we delicious.

"The support we received from the members of our network was just phenomenal, everyone rallied together to have some part in this special event." Local start- up venue loyalty app Onify were headline sponsors of the event and Managing Director Bertie Cordingley had this to say of their involvement: "RSViP has provided a fantastic environment for businesses to connect over the years and it was great to have been part of their celebrations. This was a wonderful event that brought together the best that Nottingham business has to offer and we’re extremely proud to have been headline sponsors. Here’s to another 10 years!"

"RSViP have facilitated in over 100,000 business connections, continue to encourage strategic partnerships and collaborations between their members, have assisted in the generation of hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of business and have lost count of the amount of events hosted in hundreds of different local Nottinghamshire venues." SPLENDOUR TURNING 10 WAS A BIRTHDAY TO REMEMBER! NOTTINGHAM’S SPLENDOUR FESTIVAL TURNED 10 THIS YEAR, MAKING IT EXTRA SPECIAL! ONCE AGAIN, SPLENDOUR WAS A SELL OUT WITH A 20,000 STRONG CROWD AND TO TOP IT OFF, THERE WASN’T ONE RAIN CLOUD IN SIGHT! With the line-up of The Charlatans, Sophie EllisBextor, Marc Almond, Björn Again and headliner Paloma Faith, this years’ Splendour was not to be missed!

The feel-good vibes set a wonderful atmosphere and the amount of festival glitter that sparkled throughout the crowds was amazing. Splendour fans spent the day soaking up all the talent and the glorious sunshine along with eating amazing food, with Pizza being the favourable option. To kick off Splendour, Nottingham’s very own band; The Dandylions performed on the main stage, followed by Nina Smith then Ady Suleiman.

WHAT MADE IT EXTRA SPECIAL WAS THAT IT WAS ALSO PALOMA’S BIRTHDAY TOO!

16 | IN Nottingham | September 18

Next to hit the main stage was Sophie Ellis-Bextor who performed her famous “Murder on the Dancefloor” hit – incredible! On the Acoustic Room Stage, there were amazing artists including Joey Costello and Daisy Godfrey. To Kill a King were meant to finish the Acoustic Room stage line-up but had to pull out, leaving Nottingham’s very own Rob Green to step in at the last minute to everyone’s relief and excitement! Rob was at Splendour to enjoy fellow talented performers and friends, so it was a bonus for him to be able to perform. There were also three other stages; Confetti Stage, Comedy Stage and Fringe Stage. On the Confetti stage, eight performers which included; Toploader, Peace and The Stranglers.

On the Comedy Stage there was the likes of Patrick Monahan and Andrew Bird. On the Fringe Stage Splendour fans watched Poetry is Dead Good, Women in Music X Splendour Panel and Nottingham’s Mrs Green! 9pm arrived and Splendour head-liner Paloma Faith came onto the main stage and delivered an amazing performance!

She finished off the night with an incredible performance of “Only Love Can Hurt Like This”. It truly made Splendour’s 10th birthday extra special and memorable!

What made it extra special was that it was also Paloma’s birthday too!

If you didn’t attend Splendour this year or have never been, then I strongly suggest that you make sure you go in 2019! It’s not just for music fans it’s also a great day for families.

Her background singers and Splendour fans all sang happy birthday to her, and then Paloma sang happy birthday to Splendour!

The Splendour team, artists, performers and fans definitely celebrated! Making it a birthday to remember!

To vote, simply go to nrba.vote where you can vote in one or as many of the award categories as you wish. In voting, you’ll be entered into a prize draw that could see you and a guest attending the glamorous Awards Ceremony which will be held at Colwick Hall Hotel on the 31st January 2019 hosted by television personality, Mark Durden-Smith. You’ll dine alongside the nominees following a Champagne Reception, enjoy the Awards and the post-awards entertainment.

Plus you’ll be given the opportunity to be wined and dined at the restaurant that scoops the title, Nottinghamshire Restaurant of the Year 2019.

Digital marketing giants, Adtrak, are once again headline sponsors lending their support and expertise to the event.

The Awards not only create a fantastic buzz locally but have proved to be a successful platform in proving Nottinghamshire to be a great food and drink destination.

“We are, of course, delighted to have Adtrak with us again. We also welcome returning sponsors, East Midlands property giants FHP, national licensing specialists Poppleston Allen, venue hosts Colwick Hall Hotel, Public Relations experts Eden PR, insurance brokers Russell Scanlan and, from the industry, Owen Taylor and Sons and Freedom Brewery,” commented Jocelyn Braithwaite from organisers, Big Table PR, adding “We’re also welcoming newcomers, Go Dine, Go Dine Digital, Nottingham College, Nottingham BID, Santander, Elavon and Hopwells.”

The Railway at Lowdham and Hockley Arts Club, both category winners, have since scooped regional and national awards and the Nottinghamshire Restaurant of the Year for 2018, Bar Iberico, has gone on to add more gongs, cementing its incredible popularity on the city’s food scene. Dan Lindsey, owner of Bar Iberico said “We were absolutely delighted to pick up the two awards at January’s ceremony, it means everything to the whole team here.” Lindsey adds “To be singled out as the best when there are so many successful, good independent operators in Nottingham is a wonderful achievement and one we’re very proud of.” The launch for the Awards takes place on Thursday 6th September at St Mary’s Church at which the industry will gather to network with their peers, local businesses and sponsors.

Year two sees a number of new and exciting categories join the core awards; Best Real Ale Pub, Best Sunday Lunch venue, Best Special Occasion Experience, Best Outdoor Space and a Special Achievement Award that recognises and rewards the venue or person who puts their community or chosen charity first. Talented youngsters are also being sought to take part in the two aspirational awards for Best Young Talent, Back AND Front of House.

HOODWINKED THE CITY’S WILD IN ART SCULPTURE TRAIL, HOODWINKED, IS THE BIG HIT OF THE SUMMER AND IS ON THE STREETS UNTIL THE END OF SEPTEMBER SO THERE’S STILL PLENTY OF TIME TO GET INVOLVED!

24 | IN Nottingham | September 18

The free trail creates a playground for Robin Hood, local legend and master of disguise; with 33 individually painted Robins placed around the city to find along with fifty-five fabulous book benches.

The benches, created by thousands of local school children, are part of Robin’s Tales, the Hoodwinked education and learning programme supported by Boots.

The robins are painted by local and national artists and sponsored by local organisations.

You can get involved in the trail in lots of ways:

One of the robins was designed and painted by patients at Nottinghamshire Hospice, the Hoodwinked charity partner working alongside a local artist.

THE HOODWIKNED APP Download the app from the App Store or Google Play for just 99p and use the map to locate the Robins, all of which have a four digit code on the base, which you enter into the app to unlock loads of offers and rewards from the sponsors.

PAPER MAP

FAREWELL EVENT

There’s also a free paper map, available from the Tourist Information Centre, city centre Boots stores, Nottingham City libraries and leisure centres, along with a printable version at hoodwinked2018.co.uk

At the end of the trail all the Robins will flock together one last time for a farewell event in the gardens of Nottinghamshire Hospice on Woodborough Road, Nottingham. This is a unique opportunity to see all the sculptures in one place.

SOUVENIR GUIDE

The Hospice, chosen as Hoodwinked’s charity partner, is an independent local charity serving people across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire who have been told that their illness cannot be cured, as well as supporting their families.

As a memento, there’s a beautiful souvenir guide, which describes all the artists and sponsors and has a copy of the map and information on planning your visit. It’s available from the Tourist Information Centre or online at their eBay shop, just search "Hoodwinked Souvenir Guide. It's priced at £4.00 (+P&P if purchased online).

AUCTION After the farewell event, the Robins fly off once more to an auction event on 18th October at St Mary’s Church, Low Pavement.

People will have an opportunity to bid for their favourite piece of artwork, as the Robins go under the hammer with TV auctioneer Charles Hanson from BBC’s Bargain Hunt. Proceeds from the auction go to Nottinghamshire Hospice, which provides services free of charge. It needs to raise over £7,000 each day to continue to be there for our local communities.

PLAN AHEAD FOR DIGITAL ACCOUNTING

FOR THE SMALL BUSINESS OWNER, KEEPING TRACK OF INVOICING, PAYMENTS AND EXPENSES CAN BE A REAL HEADACHE! BUT NOW WITH DIGITAL ACCOUNTING SOFTWARE, THOSE TIME-CONSUMING TASKS HAVE GOT SO MUCH QUICKER AND EASIER.

If you currently don’t use any accounting software or use a desktop solution, there’s just enough time to get ready for the most fundamental change to the administration of the tax system for decades. The government has announced that from April 2019, if your business is registered for VAT and your turnover is above the VAT threshold - currently £85,000, you must keep digital accounting records under new ‘Making Tax Digital’ (MTG) rules. Your business will be required to file VAT returns using MTG compliant software as submitting returns by post or through HMRC’s own online service will no longer be possible. But help is at hand - The Local News have partnered with Quick Books Online to offer local businesses a digital accounting solution which is fully MTG compliant. 26 | IN Nottingham | September 18

Our bookkeeping support services include raising and sending invoices, posting purchase invoices, bank reconciliation and posting all expenses without the hassle of paper records.

We also help with submitting VAT returns digitally from Quick Books and finalising year-end accounts ready for submission to your accountant who will have instant access to all records Inna Morozova, The Local News’ advanced user of Quick Books and chartered certified accountant (ACCA) with more than 15 years of experience, said: “All of your bookkeeping is done fast and efficiently. Everything is in the palm of your hand in one place as you can also see a snapshot of your business finances wherever you are on the mobile app.

“Our support services can be tailored to the size and needs of your business. You may just want help with the Quick Books set-up and training for you and your staff, or we can provide full monthly bookkeeping services. With monthly fees from just £79, we can take the hassle of your business bookkeeping and at the same time, we’ll make sure you are ready for the new Making Tax Digital rules.”

SEW YOUR OWN WAY WE ALL HAVE TOO MUCH STUFF, AND IN A WORLD OF ‘FAST FASHION’, IT’S EASY TO FILL YOUR WARDROBE WITH UNWORN, IMPULSE PURCHASES. In an effort to reduce both spending and environmental impact, I set myself the challenge of not buying any new clothes. If I wanted something new - I would have to make it for myself. Having only started sewing in March, this was a slightly daunting prospect, but one filled with possibility. The sewing world is a slightly eccentric but endlessly charming place of (mostly) female solidarity. One of the things I love about sewing is the lineage of it, the tradition of one generation teaching the next - using old machines, and discovering vintage patterns.

30 | IN Nottingham | September 18

My Mum taught me to knit and sew as a child and I confess I was a reluctant student, but 20 years later thought it was worth giving it another go. It is not all retro though, there is a growing community of indie pattern designers, creating modern silhouettes and embracing collaboration and pattern hacking. Nottingham has a fantastic network of independent fabric and haberdashery shops that have been a joy to explore. When you venture into a sewing shop, the staff without fail take the time to discuss what you need and why you need. When I’ve been stuck on a technical aspect with a project and YouTube has failed me, the women in The Sewing Box on Carlton Square have had all the answers! I’ve enjoyed making wardrobe staples, such as dungarees and pinafore dresses.

High waisted shorts have become a particular favourite pattern, as I never find shorts that fit quite the way I want them too, and of course, this fantastic weather has called out for a sun-dress to drink gin and tonics in! So why not give it a go? It doesn’t matter if the final result is a bit rough round the edges, you don’t live in an Instagram filter, and it will be a hundred times better because you made it – even if it’s terrible, especially if it’s terrible – because it’s yours. The pride of completing your first wearable garment is incredible. And yes several months on the finishing of my seams is still a bit shoddy, and the hems aren’t that straight. But, that doesn’t really matter. Wearing something you made yourself, truly makes you feel a million dollars – and I encourage you to try, trust me it’s worth it.

STRUCTURE NOT BOUNDARIES

HOW ACTION AND ACCOUNTABILITY CAN TURN POTENTIAL INTO PROGRESS.

BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF! If your goal is to lose weight , find out why, dig deep and be honest with yourself. If its for confidence, why? What is it that weight-loss will give you? If you find out what your drive is, you are more likely to stick to it! Aesthetics will only get you so far on your journey, after that your drive has to come from motivation and discipline. This means looking at your behaviours, especially around food and daily activity and making some sustainable adjustments that can create a healthier lifestyle that’s suits you.

SHARE YOUR GOALS If your goal is to lose a few pounds, its proven that you are more likely to achieve those goals if you surround yourself with like-minded people and a good support system.

MAKE SOCIAL MEDIA YOUR FRIEND

Thousands of people scroll through Instagram or Facebook following their fave celebrities and fitness pros. But does that make you feel good about yourself? When in doubt, don't start comparing yourself! They have been airbrushed, marketed, sponsored etc they are not the average Joe! So unfollow! Yes, I said it! This means nothing to them they probably wont even notice. Instead, fill your feed with posts that will feed your soul. Things that make you smile and give you a push in the right direction, can make a difference! Secondly post your success’, no matter how small. Your friends and those who support you can then give you that extra motivation which will spur you on. It sounds small, but it works!

IF IT CAN BE MEASURED, IT CAN BE TRACKED. MAKE TECHNOLOGY WORK FOR YOU! Invest in yourself! If youre not prepared to invest in a PT at the moment get yourself a tracking device. If you think you eat healthy and are active but nothing is happening, a steps or activity tracker can highlight possible causes for your lack of progress. Majority of the time I hear from clients that they only eat healthy foods and walk everywhere, but nothings happening! If calories in vs calories out, is the key to weight loss, how do you know you're burning more than you consume? If youre not aware of a) the amount of calories you are consuming and b) the amount of calories you are burning daily in and outside of the gym, it's hard to know. I would recommend using the free myfitnesspal app to get you started and a fitness tracker to set and monitor your daily activity goals.

One way I encourage clients to do this is to set up a private facebook group or whatsapp group where they can share achievements, funny memes, recipes they’ve found, chat and most importantly check in with one another for support. Accountability is key when creating new goals and behaviours. For example, setting a day where they all upload their progress pictures, weights and measurements and reflect on how their weeks has gone; what hasn’t worked and why, what has worked and how! 32 | IN Nottingham | September 18

SPENDING TIME WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS OVER AFTERNOON TEA IS A CLASSIC PASTIME. Located on Mapperley top in Nottingham is a beautiful independent tea room and cocktail bar called Tipsy T. Open 9am – 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 9am – 12am Friday – Saturday; they offer a range of food and drinks from breakfast to dinner, not to mention a wide variety of beverages (including gin!).

36 | IN Nottingham | September 18

TIPSY T

Welcoming both gin-lovers and newbies, Tipsy T encourages you to join them on their monthly tasting nights.

Perfect for a family treat out, children can enjoy smaller, more manageable portions whilst parents tuck into the sparkling afternoon tea.

A place to broaden your horizons as well as enjoy a lively evening full of laughter. You can find out more on their Facebook page @tipsytmapperley.

First to arrive was our teas which were served in beautiful vintage tea cups and saucers.

When IN Magazine were kindly invited to try Tipsy T’s afternoon tea, we were very excited and couldn’t wait to see what they had to offer. Depending on personal preference, you can choose from their traditional or sparking afternoon tea. On our visit we indulged in a traditional afternoon tea, paired with two English Breakfast teas.

Our milk pourer was a fine china cat which poured milk out of its paw – how cute! It’s the little details like this that make Tipsy T’s afternoon teas so wonderful and quirky! Shortly after, we were served our afternoon tea, wow it looked amazing! Carefully placed over three tiers was a selection of sandwiches, treats and nibbles.

If that doesn’t sound incredible, I don’t know what does! Everything can be tailored to suit different needs, we decided to go for a selection of tuna, ham, cheese, egg and salmon with cream cheese sandwiches, they were utterly scrumptious! The bread was soft and fluffy which complimented their freshly made fillings. Next, we sampled their miniature pork pies and quiches. The quiches were still warm and packed full of flavour, it was hard to say no, but we had to keep room for desert. We were asked which cakes we’d like for our afternoon tea and with a selection of five handmade cakes to choose from, it was a very difficult decision.

Both of the cakes tasted wonderful; the rainbow cake not only looked incredible but also tasted incredible too! Covered in a light, fluffy buttercream and topped with sprinkles, this is definitely a fun and delicious choice for all ages to enjoy! The flavours, texture and appearance of the lemon and blueberry cake were amazing and definitely one I recommend to all! Next on the list were the macaroons, the vibrant colours made them look too good to eat, but that wasn’t going to stop us as we took our first bite and were hit with the most delightful flavours!

Finally, all we had left to try were their miniature scones and there’s something about miniature food that makes them look so cute! You can choose from warm traditional or cheese topped scones and both were divine which created the perfect end to the perfect afternoon tea. So, as you can see, IN Magazine had an incredible time at Tipsy T and we highly recommend you pay them a visit the next time you’re out and about – you won’t be disappointed!

908 Woodborough Road, Nottingham, NG3 5QR @tipsytmapperley

With plenty of choice we decided on both their rainbow cake and lemon and blueberry.

Travel By Leo Ford (Just Journey)

VIETNAM – A COUNTRY OF CONTRASTS THIS AMAZING COUNTRY THAT HAS BEEN RAVISHED BY WAR IN VERY MODERN HISTORY IS NOW ONE OF OUR MOST POPULAR ASIA DESTINATIONS.

Could it be the history, the beautiful white sand beaches, the exquisite cuisine, or just the excellent value for money? Why don’t you decide for yourself! It is very much a country of contrasts, from the old communist state of the north, the ancient medieval wonderland of the centre, and the capitalist south. It is a fascinating mix.

40 | IN Nottingham | September 18

If you're not as interested in the history, Vietnam also has stunning beaches and wildlife and is all connected by one of the world's most famous railways: The Reunification Express.

When you throw the great cities into the mix, you can see why it's become a must-see destination. Our tours and suggestions are as ever always tailored to you, but we would suggest an itinerary that starts in the north in the capital city Hanoi. Expose all your senses to one of Asia’ most manic cities, all as you cross the road and avoid the thousands of mopeds zipping past. It’s all worth it though as next we set sail into the tranquillity of Halong Bay on an overnight cruise on a traditional Junk boat. The images of the limestone rock formations and the emerald waters will stay with you for a lifetime. Our journey then continues inland to an area less visited, at Just Journey we try to create unique experiences for our clients and one of these would be to head to the area around the town of Ninh Binh.

Famous for the nearby meandering Tam Coc river and its path through the hillsides and rice paddies. Take a bamboo boat (Sampan) ride on the river and visit the caves and rainforest of nearby Cuc Phoung National Park. Hop on the Reunification Express for an overnight journey to Hoi An where some of the country’s best beaches greet you for a well earned break and some relaxation time. This area offers a host of opportunities; explore the ancient citadel of the Imperial City in Hue, reflect on the modern history of the Vietnam War by visiting the DMZ and Viet Cong tunnels, and after all this sit back and relax on one of the beautiful beaches and relax. For more details check out Just Journey's Route 66 Fly Drive offer on their website justjourney.co.uk/package/route-66/ or contact them at contact@justjourney.co.uk or on 0115 7500 500. Alternatively, pop into their office in West Bridgford.

TIMELESS TREND OF A BYGONE ERA CLASSIC ELEGANCE IS NEVER OUT OF DATE REGARDLESS OF ITS HERITAGE AND THE ART DECO ‘LOOK’ OR CONCEPT HAS REMAINED A FIRM FAVOURITE FOR INTERIORS ALL OVER THE WORLD.

44 | IN Nottingham | September 18

It’s a very easy way of introducing glamour into a room without it being too girlie or feminine. Whilst the art deco influence in general has a very opulent, lavish feel, it can easily be introduced into a more minimalist 21st century scheme by applying some of the principles it follows. An easy rule to use to create an art deco effect is symmetry and geometry. This wooden media unit available online from Swoon Editions applies this rule.

The metal insets form sleek geometric shapes and with the angled spindle legs it has the suggestion of art deco whilst being a contemporary piece of furniture. Prestigious Textiles, who are a great favourite of mine for cushions, curtains, blinds and upholstery, have put together a complete range of deco inspired fabrics showcasing the shapes and style of the era. And if you don’t want to invest too heavily into the look, scatter cushions are an extremely simple way to introduce the idea.

Similar to the cushions, rugs can really anchor a space can bring a subtle hint of ‘deco’ design too. Created in a contemporary grey, this rug from made.com, easily sits in a modern scheme. There is an abundance of crystal and glass lighting available which is heavily influenced by this decadent time.

With the insets of stained glass and lead frames it is a classic nod to the concept of Art Deco and all the charm it delivers.

This stunning glass ceiling pendant from Ocean Lighting is available in clear or amber glass and would provide a real wow factor in any room. And finally, as far as interior design goes, I always feel a room is not complete without a mirror. As well as the obvious functionality, a mirror should be a real statement. It can create the illusion of more space in a room and bounce the light around. To combine glamour and opulence, this sleek, sophisticated Gatsby inspired, over mantle wall mirror brings real personality.
