CHICKEN PARMIGIANA MY TASTY CHICKEN PARMIGIANA RECIPE IS EASY TO MAKE IN THE OVEN AND TASTES GREAT SERVED WITH PASTA OR SALAD. IT’S A TRADITIONAL ITALIAN-AMERICAN RECIPE MADE IN A DELICIOUS TOMATO SAUCE.

9. Once evenly coated, fry the chicken in a sauté pan for approx. 5 minutes on each side.

1. Preheat the oven to 180c / 350f. 2. Finely chop the onion and garlic. 3. Heat some oil in a saucepan and fry the onion

10. When the sauce has finished simmering, add a small amount to the bottom of an oven dish.

4. Add the passata, oregano, and crumble in

11. Lay the chicken into the oven dish then cover with the rest of the tomato sauce.

and garlic for 5 minutes.

the stock cube. Stir and leave to simmer for 15 minutes.

5. Meanwhile, butterfly the chicken breasts and wrap each breast in clingfilm. 6. Bash the chicken with a rolling pin to make

them nice and flat.

7. Add the parmesan and breadcrumbs to a bowl and break the egg into another bowl (and briefly whisk). 8. Slice the chicken breasts so you have 4 pieces, then dip in the egg then the breadcrumb/parmesan mix.

12. Add the mozzarella on top and sprinkle over some more breadcrumbs/parmesan. 13. Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes. 14. When the cheese has started to melt and

the topping has started to turn crisp, remove from the oven.

HART'S RESTAURANT WE WERE KINDLY INVITED DOWN TO HART’S RESTAURANT TO SAMPLE THEIR MENU – WE WERE BEYOND IMPRESSED! FIVE-STAR SERVICE FROM START TO FINISH… As we walked into Hart’s we were greeted with smiling eyes and friendly faces, soon after courteously shown to our table. Low lighting perfectly set for a romantic evening meal with your partner.

6 | IN Nottingham | February 19

Once seated we indulged in a glass of fizz whilst we browsed the menu, the waiter on hand recommended their wild mushroom fricassée, poached egg, smoked bacon velouté – oh my it was delicious! A dish of pure delight, soft wild mushrooms that just melt in your mouth with a perfect poached egg in a beautiful yet subtle smoked bacon velouté sauce. We also had their tuna tartare, avocado purée and radishes, a delectable appetiser. The collection of flavours could only be described as fresh, the tuna tasted as though it had just come out of the sea! Exquisitely paired with the radish to give it that soft vs crunchy texture contrast.

For the next course we chose rump of beef, shallot puree, salsify, buttered cabbage & bacon and nasturtium. The tender beef was very well paired with rich shallot purée and vegetables. As well as this we tried their vegetarian options of honey glazed halloumi, spiced lentils and tempura vegetables; the halloumi was complemented by the sweet sauce and lentils. Accompanying our hearty mains, we ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc.

FIVE-STAR SERVICE FROM START TO FINISH!

Next it was our favourite, dessert! We ordered two great choices, the plum and almond tart with cream cheese ice cream and Monmouth coffee crème brûlée with chocolate and hazelnut ice cream.

Their menu changes daily depending on the seasonal, local ingredients available. Before dining you can unwind at the bar where you can choose a drink from their extensive list.

The tart was delightful, fluffy and full of flavour; with fresh, sweet raspberries that just melt! Now, onto the crème brûlée, what a magnificent dessert to finish the night on a high!

Dining at Hart’s was an unforgettable experience, with the perfect atmosphere and ambiance, delicious food and ever so helpful staff on hand!

OH MY IT WAS DELICIOUS! With a mousse-like texture to the brûlée and delicious ice cream, complementing the glazed topping of the pudding.

When you are next thinking of enjoying some time in Nottingham we suggest that you head to this beautiful venue, you won’t be disappointed! As well as a fine dining restaurant, Hart’s also have a stylish boutique hotel,

whether it be an anniversary or a Valentine’s Day treat you’ll have a stay to remember! Hart’s are currently offering a fine dining 4-course menu priced at £65 per person for Valentines Day. To book call 0115 988 1900.

Hart's Restaurant is located on Standard Hill, Park Row, Nottingham, NG1 6GN hartsnottingham.co.uk/harts-restaurant @HartsNottingham @HartsNotts

Based on his smash hit film and adapted for the stage by Oscar-winning writer Simon Beaufoy, this hilarious and heartfelt production has received standing ovations every night and won the prestigious UK Theatre Award. Featuring Gary Lucy, who has made the part of Gaz his own, with an all-star cast of Andrew Dunn as Gerald, Louis Emerick as Horse, Joe Gill as Lomper, Kai Owen as Dave and James Redmond. With songs by Donna Summer, Hot Chocolate and Tom Jones you really should… drop absolutely everything and book today!

10 | IN Nottingham | February 19

Theatre Royal trch.co.uk Written by Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences. Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi-award winning Blood Brothers. Bill Kenwright’s production surpassed 10,000 performances in London’s West End, one of only three musicals ever to achieve that milestone. The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True.

Royal Concert Hall trch.co.uk One of the pioneering figures of Minimalist music in the 1960s, Steve Reich influenced a huge range of composers through his innovative use of repetitive figures and slow harmonic rhythm to create hypnotic phasing patterns. This concert by the acclaimed London Sinfonietta comprises four classic works, beginning with the simplest of forms – two performers getting progressively more out of sync when clapping – and ending with his seminal 1976 Music for Eighteen Musicians, which combines instrumentalists and vocalists over a cycle of 11 chords to create a pulsating hour of shape-shifting rhythms.

Catfish and the Bottlemen at the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham on Tuesday 19 February 2019

Pure electricity crackled across the fields of Britain and Europe this summer with Catfish and The Bottlemen’s pulse-quickening, headline festival performances and their own acclaimed openair shows. Barely pausing for breath, the band announces that they’re staying on the move to maintain their unstoppable ascent with a 6-date UK and Ireland Tour planned for February 2019. Admitting to being happily of ‘no fixed abode’ due to near constant touring and recording since the release of their debut album in 2014, McCann leads Johnny Bond (lead guitar), Benji Blakeway (bass) and Bob Hall (drums) into a refreshed campaign, bidding to eclipse their previous, towering achievements and take the next step as established festival and arena headliners.

WARM UP YOUR WINTER ALTHOUGH FEBRUARY IS ONE MONTH CLOSER TO SPRING IT CAN ACTUALLY BE THE COLDEST AND TOUGHEST MONTH AS FAR AS THE WEATHER IS CONCERNED. SO WHAT BET TER TIME TO WARM UP YOUR HOME INTERIORS WITH TACTILE, PLUSH FABRICS AND INTRODUCE RICH, OPULENT COLOURS. The emerging trends of Autumn/Winter 18/19 saw a big presence of ruby, sapphire and emerald hues. Mix a little of these confident colours with the warmth of gold accents, add in some clever lighting and you can bring a real tactile element into your home. I’ve always been a huge fan of textures to add depth to a scheme. Look at the way the lustre gold velvet cushions sit against this beautiful matt velvet sofa.

12 | IN Nottingham | February 19

The contrast gives interest and detail without being too bold for the striking, emerald, Casadeco wallpaper that provides the entire backdrop. The combination of contemporary styling in the shape and design of the furniture, teamed with the more traditional pattern of the wallpaper and the wood panelling brings a unique combination of old and new and offers a very bespoke feel. Experimenting with concepts and mixing them up a little is great way to express personality within your home. Some homes however, due to the age, or architectural features may dictate the interior styling.

The cushion in the same picture is something to note this season too. The tasselled embellishments on each corner have arrived straight from the fashion catwalks and are playing a huge part in future trends. I’ll certainly be offering fringing, beads and tassels this season as they are such a fun design detail and an easy addition to cushions, throws, curtains and lamps. So, this February get flirting with fringing, be bold with the beading and tempted by the tassels. Enjoy!

A traditional feel within an old building can be sympathetic whilst still using the colours, fabrics and trends that appear on the interior design circuit. This Louis Chair finished in sumptuous sapphire lustre velvet is an absolute jewel set within this veteran scheme of gilding, panelling and parquet flooring. The Rococo Collection from Prestigious Textiles showcases this perfectly with a gorgeous range of contemporary colours.

Health By Sophia Hill

INCREASING TOXINS FROM OUR ENVIRONMENT COUPLED WITH EXCESS SUGAR, PROCESSED FOOD AND ALCOHOL CAN HINDER THE BODY’S NATURAL ABILITIES TO DETOXIFY, LEAVING US FEELING DRAINED, LETHARGIC, BLOATED AND LESS THAN OUR BEST! By taking the load off your liver, your body will be able to naturally detoxify so you feel rejuvenated and energised!

1. First, lighten up your toxin load. Try eliminating

gluten, dairy and sugar for 4 weeks. These foods are inflammatory and burden the liver and digestive system, resulting in a toxic build up.

LIGHTEN YOUR TOXIC LOAD

If you are feeling particularly tired and bloated, you will really feel the benefit from removing these foods.

2. Drink more liquids in the form of herbal teas, smoothies, green juices and filtered water. Start your day off with a warming drink of hot water, freshly squeezed lemon and freshly grated ginger root.

This helps to boost the digestive system and cleanse the liver. Swap the regular tea and coffee for green tea. The antioxidants found in green tea (catechins such as EGCG & ECG) have been found to protect the liver.

3.

Fibre is essential in detoxing as it helps to bind to toxins and excrete them. Eat plenty of fibre, including brown rice, quinoa and organically grown fresh fruits and vegetables.

4.

Beetroot, radishes, cabbage, broccoli, spirulina, and seaweed are excellent detoxifying foods.

In particular vegetables have excellent detoxifying benefits on the liver. Another great addition is Coriander, which acts as a chelating agent, acting like a magnet by drawing toxins out of the body. You could add coriander when juicing.

5.

Dry-brush your skin every day, this helps to get the lymphatic system moving and stops it becoming stagnant and sluggish which helps to remove toxins.

6.

Bathe in Epsom salts. The magnesium in the salts is taken up through the skin and it helps the liver to work optimally. These salts also aid in drawing out toxins from the body.

Places to drink... By Georgia Atkins

SHARE THE LOVE THIS VALENTINE’S DAY WITH A BOTTLE OF WINE, A GLASS OF GIN OR A PINT. HERE ARE A FEW OF OUR SUGGESTIONS FOR VENUES TO VISIT IN NOTTINGHAM…

GIN BARS: GINCIDENT, 46 FRIAR LANE Situated on Friar Lane, opposite the Kitty Café is Gincident, the home of all things gin! Bring your loved one along for a memorable evening, with over 150 drinks to choose from you’ll both be spoilt for choice! Whether you are into citrusy, spiced or dry gins, Gincident has something for you!

JUNI, 8-10 LOW PAVEMENT Last year Nottingham welcomed its first gin lab, Juni on Low Pavement. Try their own brand of gin, Juni 93, bursting with flavoursome Serbian Juniper berries.

As well as a gin lab and bar, they also offer cocktail masterclasses and tasting events, a great way to spend time with friends and meet like-minded people. Alongside your beverage, indulge in a few nibbles off their Balkan-inspired menu – yum!

GINIOUS, 100A CHILWELL ROAD What once was known as Beeston’s best kept secret is now the bustling bar, Ginious on Chilwell Road. Home to over 60 handpicked gins, ranging from the classics to rhubarb & ginger, chocolate orange flavour and many more - you won’t find a plain gin here! A drink always tastes better with nibbles, so why not order one of their gorgeous antipasti sharing boards. 20 | IN Nottingham | February 19

ROMANTIC BARS IN NOTTINGHAM

During your visit at Ginious, ask the staff about their Alice in Wonderland afternoon tea, a unique experience where the tea/coffee is switched with flavoursome gin – ooh!

WINE BARS: ANOTHER? WINE BAR, 9 TRINITY SQUARE

Nottingham’s first ever self-serve wine bar found its home in Trinity Square. Offering over 30 wines, including Sparking wines and Champagnes, you won’t be stuck for inspiration. At Another? Wine Bar you don’t have to worry about queuing as all drinks are on a tab, making for a relaxed night out. The card you are given will allow you access to a wine machine where you can enjoy tasting various wines, whether it be a 25ml sample or a 175ml glass. On warmer nights venture outside to explore their picturesque Champagne and Prosecco garden – a romantic night to remember!

DINO, 9 WARSER GATE Known for their selection of fine wines and Champagnes is Dino’s, a relaxing, family-run bar on the edge of the historic Lace Market. As well as wine, they also offer delicious Mediterranean cuisine to be enjoyed by all. Home to various Champagnes, white, red and rosé wines to choose from you just can’t resist!

VEENO NOTTINGHAM, 15 MIDDLE PAVEMENT

Indulge in everything Italian at Veeno Nottingham, a quaint wine café. The story began when two Italian men met in Manchester; sharing their mutual love for Italian Aperitivo, the cultural tradition of drinking, nibbling and relaxing after work. Offering quality Sicilian wines alongside tasty appetisers – perfect for a night out! You can either try their wine from Caruso & Minini, their family vineyard in Sicily or enjoy one of their delicious guest wines. This Valentine’s Day why not share a bottle of Wine of Love, a combination of elderflower, floral notes and fruits – lovely!

COCKTAIL BARS:

THE ALCHEMIST, 11 KINGS STREET

Head to Kings Street for a whole new way of dining. With a dark theatrical flair, here you’ll find a unique and magnificent experience that everyone is craving! With their creative cocktails and darkly delicious dining, The Alchemist can be found in the stunning listed building on King’s Street.

CURIOUS MANOR, TRINITY SQUARE

Admire the views over Trinity Square at Curious Manor and immerse yourself in a truly memorable cocktail outing. Open all week, you can indulge in a well-earned beverage any day of the week, and even on Valentine’s Day. They pride themselves on being "inventors, explorers, creators and pioneers" when it comes to dining and drinking experience – don’t just take their word for it, see for yourself! Whether you fancy something quirky and exciting like a rum cocktail topped with marshmallows or a classic martini, the Curious Manor has it all!

BARS WITH TERRACE: PITCHER & PIANO, HIGH PAVEMENT

Pitcher & Piano, one of Nottingham’s most stylish dining venues, with stained glass windows, exposed brick archways and beautiful interiors – perfect for any occasion.

Indulge in their range of delicious cocktails, worldly wines and boutique beers over a meal with your partner this Valentine’s Day. See what takes your fancy from their selection of ‘winter warmers’, including the Midnight Express, Sloe Gin Fizz, Afternoon Tea or Chambord Royale – delicious! Don’t drink alone, order a few dishes off their menu to share with your loved one from chicken pakoras, halloumi fries, buttermilk squid and many more.

ALTO, CORNER HOUSE

As you enter the Corner House, just two levels up you’ll find Alto; with four stylish bars, a VIP area, and their lovely terrace area. Indulge in a tipple or two with your loved one whilst snuggling up under a blanket under the stars – so romantic! Alto pride themselves on their fabulous cocktails alongside world beers, local ales, great wine and non-alcoholic options. Before you dance into the night, glance over their tasty menu.

REAL ALE PUBS: THE CROSS KEYS, 15 BYARD LANE Situated just minutes from shops and iconic landmarks is The Cross Keys on Byard Lane. This historic venue is home to a wide range of beers, including seven hand-pulled cask ales and a great variety of craft beers and kegs. Want a low-key Valentine’s Day, this is the place to be, with comfy seating, a great vibe and friendly locals. Cheers with a pint of refreshing ale this February – perfect!

THE CRAFTY CROW, 102 FRIAR LANE A dog-friendly pub with plenty of beers and real ales to try. With real ales on rotation and some of the best independent food and drink in Nottingham, The Crafty Crow is the place to go. Now, we’ve all heard of a beer with your meal, but a meal cooked with beer – unusual but worth a try!

Travel By Leo Ford (Just Journey)

WELCOME TO CUBA, THE COUNTRY THAT TIME FORGOT, THE JURASSIC PARK FOR CARS, THE PEARL OF THE ANTILLES. THERE IS A HOLIDAY ON THIS ISLAND PARADISE FOR EVERYONE. For culture lovers, history buffs, and those who just like to sit back and relax in the sunshine, this island is for you. At Just Journey, we have several approaches for a Cuba holiday. The first is a classic twin centre of Havana combined with a beach stay. Experience the time warp that is Havana, admire the classic American automobiles rolling past, brands like Oldsmobile, Chevrolet and even the old

Plymouth brand from Chrysler cannot be seen like this anywhere else in the world. Perhaps experience the ballet, admire the architecture or just have a coffee (or cigar) and watch the world of a yesteryear stroll by. After few days in Havana, head to the beautiful beach resort of Varadero, where a luxurious 5-star resort beacons you. Feel the warmth of the sun on your face as you sip a cocktail on the beach and admire the blue Caribbean Sea. Luxury and indulgence await, and you deserve it. The other option we have is something a bit different, and we highly recommend it. Head out into the unseen Cuba by experiencing a tour of the island with a twist.

CUBA

We will avoid the large resorts and business style hotels we are so familiar with and stay in a selection of the local family run ‘Casas’. These old homely houses give you an authentic insight to the Cuban way of life. Home cooked food is served, and after you sit on the porch and enjoy a mojito and get to know your new local friends.

Explore the UNESCO world heritage site as it is meant to be seen, through the winding cobbled streets, over the fields and admiring the colonial architecture and unique culture all along the way. We really can’t recommend Cuba enough and now is the perfect time to visit. For more details head to justjourney.co.uk or contact Just Journey on 0115 7500 500. Alternatively, pop into their office in West Bridgford.
