BAR SOBA FOLLOWING THE RECENT OPENING, IN MAGAZINE WAS KINDLY INVITED DOWN TO BAR SOBA IN DERBY TO TRY THEIR BOOZY BRUNCH MENU, AND WOW WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED. Available Friday, Saturday & Sunday from 124pm, the Boozy Brunch Menu is the best way to start the weekend! A delicious sharing platter, main course brunch, plus 4 cocktails, glasses of prosecco, or bottled beers for just £25pp. We began with the sharing platter: two types of Gyoza dumplings, Chicken & Vegetable, Shrimp Crackers, Bang Bang Chicken Wings and Tiger Prawn Tempura. It’s safe to say the plate went back empty as we demolished the entire thing! The chicken fell off the bone, the tiger prawns were so fresh and the dumplings were unbelievably full of flavour, the beauty of sharing platters is that there’s something for everyone. We decided to put the vegetarian option to the test: Basil Chilli Stir Fry. This dish includes wok fried Asian greens, aubergine & tofu in chilli paste, garlic, light soy & basil with jasmine rice, cashew & fresh chilli… and all I can say is wow!

EVEN WITHOUT THE ALCOHOL THE MOCKTAIL WAS DELICIOUS. What also surprised me was how much flavour you got through the dish, from the vegetables to the chilli to the garlic, it all tasted amazing. We also ordered the Singapore Street Noodles and they were downright delicious. Every ingredient included complemented each other perfectly and it 6 | IN Derby | February 18

was full of meat, something you don’t get with a lot of restaurants. With Wok fried egg noodles, chicken, tiger prawns, sticky pork & chilli omelette with curry, ginger and garlic, this dish is something we’d recommend to everyone.

ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW!

Even though Bar Soba focuses on their flavours and spices to give you the most authentic Street Food experience, they still do offer you the option to substitute ingredients. This is nice to know as if you’re not the biggest fan of spice then you don’t have to worry, there’ll still be something for you. Of course, how can you talk about a Boozy Brunch without mentioning the Booze! Sadly, as one of us had to be the designated driver, we asked the waiter if he could make us a mocktail version of the Strawberry Sail Daiquiri, which he was more than happy to do, recommending he substitute the alcohol for apple juice. Even without the alcohol the mocktail was delicious. We were also able to see and experience Bar Soba could put their twist on the classic cocktails.

By Sop hie

Co l l ey

Both the Classic Mojito and Drumstick Caipirovska were heavenly and a must try for any cocktail lovers. So, as you can see it was a very successful lunch and the next time you’re out and about in Derby, Bar Soba should be your new must try restaurant – we recommend the Boozy Brunch!

LOVEABLE LIPS IT’S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR WHERE EVERYONE IS ALL LOVED UP! REGARDLESS WHETHER YOU’RE SINGLE OR NOT, YOU SHOULD STILL LOVE YOUR LIPS! THERE’S NOTHING WORSE THAN CHAPPED LIPS WITH LIPPY ON, NEVER MIND KISSING THEM... PREP It’s key to make sure your lips are in top condition, otherwise your lippy is not going to last at all and will just look awful. Firstly you need to get rid of the dead skin on them puckers, I recommend The Body Shop Lipscuff, It gently exfoliates away dead skin cells, leaving you lips softer, plumper and moisturised. Follow with your favourite lip balm, as your lips can never get enough moisture.

TOP TIP: Do this before you start the rest of your makeup, to give your lips a chance to absorb that moisture! LIQUID MATTE LIPSTICKS These are a new type of lipstick that’s definitely here to stay. They look smooth and glossy on application, but they’re designed to dry down to a matte stain finish, which means they’re typically long lasting and do not budge. Most brands do these now, but here’s two that have been proven to last, through eating, drinking and of course, kissing; 8 | IN Derby | February 18

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte - Gossip Girl. It drys down to a beautiful comfortable matte finish and this shade is just a perfect everyday pink. Kat Von D Evertlasting Liquid Lipstick - Mother. This drys down very quickly to a lovely non flat matte finish and this shade is a beautiful dusky mauve pink. Of course if you prefer more of a nude or red lippy, the shade range from Huda & Kat currently have a combined total of 64 shades! WOW!

MATTE LIPSTICKS

be left with some colour on your lips. So you won’t have weird looking lips or have to worry about reapplying your lippy every hour! I’m not saying have a lip pencil for every lipstick shade you have, but I would have 1 shade of a nude, a pink and a red. Then you’ve got all the basics covered. You may be surprised to hear, that there’s also different formulas of lip pencils out there, avoid the creamy ones - stick to matte! You need that matte base to help your lippy last.

If you’re not into the liquid lipstick application, then there is plenty of ‘straight from the bullet’ matte lipsticks out there. You can’t go wrong with MAC’s Russian Red! Despite it being a matte formula it looks and feels creamy, yet it stays put! The shade is an intense red, with a blue undertone, very Marilyn Monroe! Urban Decay’s ‘Vice’ Comfort Matte Lipstick’s have amazing pigmentation with creamy formula and are perfectly matte! The shade Afterdark, is a dark berry pink, it’s stunning!

The Body Shop, Rimmel Exaggerate and Essence Long Lasting Lip Liners, are some of the best that I’ve tried and they’re really budget friendly!

TOP TIP: Fill in your entire lip, not just the outline. If you want to adjust the shade of you lipstick, put a darker or lighter lip pencil shade underneath. To give your lips some dimension you could use a darker lip pencil in the corners of your mouth and blend. Or you could just where the lip liner on it’s own. Happy Valentines! xXx

LIP PENCILS So many people forget to apply, but some don’t even own a lip pencil - CRAZY! Not only do they help your lipstick last that little bit longer, but if your lipstick does wear off, you’ll

LED THERE BE LIGHT FOR SKIN PROBLEMS FARZILA ALLARAKHA RUNS AWARD WINNING NEO ELEGANCE SKIN CLINIC IN VERNON GATE WHICH SPECIALISES IN ADVANCED AND NON-INVASIVE SKIN TREATMENTS USING THE LATEST TECHNOLOGIES THAT ACHIEVE VISIBLE AND LONG LASTING RESULTS. Here she introduces the ethos behind Neo Elegance and how her own experiences inspired her to join the family business, that have transformed the lives of clients who suffer from skin problems. How many pots of supposed ‘miracle’ face cream have you got in your bathroom cabinet?

skin conditions that really affect your confidence and quality of life? “I know first-hand just what a devastating effect a skin condition can have on a person’s physical and psychological well-being,” said Farzila. “Having suffered with acne vulgaris as a teenager, I decided to turn this negative into a positive and trained in skin health. The more I learnt, the more I became convinced that the only way to alleviate many skin problems – whether that is acne or signs of ageing – is to combine technology and advanced therapies.”

MANY PEOPLE TURN TO INVASIVE SURGICAL PROCEDURES BUT THESE OBVIOUSLY CARRY A HOST OF RISKS.

The science is simple in reality.

The family run business designs and sells aesthetic devices including our state of the art LED mask, and Farzila has worked with some of the top clinics and doctors including those working in the famous Harley Street.

Skin is waterproof therefore the products you apply can only penetrate superficially. So, although they may make skin feel nice in the short term – they are not achieving sustainable or long-lasting results.

Having passed all her clinical aesthetic qualifications with distinction, Farzila set up Neo Elegance Skin Clinic in Vernon Gate just over a year ago, so that their clients could benefit from the latest technologies.

Many people turn to invasive surgical procedures but these obviously carry a host of risks.

Fazilla said “The response has been amazing. We now have clients who come here from far and wide, we have been nominated for various industry awards and even appeared on television’s ‘Spa Wars’.”

It is tempting to believe claims that these products can stop or turn back the clock - but can they?

And what are your options if you are one of the thousands of men and women, who suffer from

Our unique and extensive range of technology and advanced therapies penetrate deep into the skin in a safe and progressive way and achieve fantastic results.” Neo Elegance’s light up LED masks work on a cellular level and have been researched by NASA to have an anti-ageing and anti-acne effect. They also have a range of body sculpting treatments which are a life-saver before heading onto the beach in a bikini. Treatments stimulate the all- important collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid whilst boosting blood circulation – feeding the skin with vital nourishment and killing bacteria. The Japan Foundation’s annual touring film programme returns to Derby in 2018, for a weekend of films that explore the theme of ‘secrets and lies’.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with your loved one in the exquisite surrounds of one of the country’s finest stately homes.

This enlightening showcase brings divisive cinematic voices, representing the best examples of cinema from Japan and looks at how the country’s filmmakers, in particular, have been drawn to portraying the ‘(un)true’ colours of human nature. Following the twists and turns of life, the results can at times be thrilling, at other times hilarious, but always enthralling. Head to derbyquad.co.uk for the full list of film screenings and times.

Brick and Maggie dance round the secrets and sexual tensions that threaten to destroy their marriage. With the future of the family at stake, which version of the truth is real – and which will win out? OWEN BRADLEY OWEN BRADLEY IS ONE OF THE HOT TEST TALENTS IN THE TELEVISION AND BROADCASTING INDUSTRY, SO IT IS NO SURPRISE THAT ONE OF THE MOST FORWARD-THINKING FOOTBALL CLUBS IN THE COUNTRY TURNED TO HIM TO LEAD THEIR NEW AND AMBITIOUS TELEVISION CHANNEL. Derby County are riding high in the Championship and have their eyes set on the Premier League, not just with their performances on the field but the way they operate off it. Bradley, who is from Breaston, has twice been named as the Radio Academy’s Top 30 Under 30, which recognises the top young talent in the industry, so it’s no surprise that Derby turned to him to spearhead their RamsTV channel. The 30-year-old, who graduated from Leeds University with a degree in International Relations, left the BBC after an eight-year career which saw him cover sport for BBC Radio Derby, BBC Radio Nottingham and BBC East Midlands Today. “I have always had a passion for broadcasting so working for the BBC was my dream job,” said Bradley. “I loved my time with the BBC and I have so many happy memories. 16 | IN Derby | February 18

“Getting to cover two of my childhood teams in Derby and the Panthers really was a dream come true and there are so many special moments to look back on.”

Bradley was the lead presenter of Radio Derby’s Sportscene progamme, while he also presented their Monday night phone-in and quickly became the voice of Derby County.

“I GREW UP AND LEARNED MY CRAFT WITH THE BBC, SURROUNDED BY A WONDERFUL BUNCH OF IMMENSELY TALENTED PEOPLE. I’LL MISS THEM ALL. THEY HAVE BECOME MY FAMILY AND HELPED ME THROUGH SOME TOUGH MOMENTS.”

He also covered ice hockey for Radio Nottingham, commentating on the Nottingham Panthers, one of the sport’s most successful teams in the UK. Bradley was at the mic for some of the club’s biggest recent triumphs, including their first league title for 57 years in 2013 and a Continental Cup success in Europe in 2017. “Ice hockey is a massive passion of mine and covering the Panthers for Radio Nottingham was my first on-air gig,” continued Bradley.

“GETTING TO COVER TWO OF MY CHILDHOOD TEAMS IN DERBY AND THE PANTHERS REALLY WAS A DREAM COME TRUE AND THERE ARE SO MANY SPECIAL MOMENTS TO LOOK BACK ON.” John Vicars said: “I am absolutely delighted Owen agreed to join us. Not only is this a fantastic appointment for RamsTV, it is also a statement as to how far the channel has grown and where we intend to take it.

“Owen is hugely respected for his professionalism and integrity and will bring a new dimension to our digital coverage this season and I’m sure he will become the face of the channel for many years to come.”

“The night in Belfast when Panthers won the league title is probably the most special moment of my career so far. “I grew up and learned my craft with the BBC, surrounded by a wonderful bunch of immensely talented people. I’ll miss them all. They have become my family and helped me through some tough moments.” Bradley is now the face of Derby’s groundbreaking television channel, which includes presenting live on matchdays and regular features about the club. Derby were keen to pry Bradley away from the BBC to lead their exciting new output, underlined by the comments of the club’s chief operating officer and chief executive of RamsTV.

LUSCIOUS LINGERIE AH, L’AMOUR! FEBRUARY CERTAINLY IS THE MONTH OF LOVE, ISN’T IT? WITH HEART-SHAPED EVERY THING AND CHEEKY CAMISOLES IN SHOP WINDOWS, SPECIAL OFFERS FOR CANDLE LIT DINING AT RESTAURANTS AND EVEN, FOR THOSE POT TER-HEADS OUT THERE, POTIONS TO MAKE THE ONE YOUR HEART DESIRES FINALLY REALISE THAT YOU ARE THEIR ‘ONE’. Now, as much as I’m not one for all that loveydovey mush (seriously, my Valentines will consist of warming up tins of soup and asking my partner to pass the Netflix remote over), I do quite like the emergence of rather luscious lingerie into the shops. Stuff the bloke, I’m going to parade in front of the mirror and admire my own assets instead! Here are my top picks on the highstreet this month!

Stretch material, seductive lace and a nice coverage of your midriff, all for a marvellous £23.49, with sizes ranging from 10-28. It’s an utter bargain, just don’t wear it to work.

ASOS - Fuller Bust Florence Strappy Lace - £20 I am a huge fan of cage underwear, I think it looks effortlessly chic with a little bit 50 shades about it. ASOS do a cracking set for £20 in sizes 20DD38HH in their Florence set, as do the entire Curvy Kate Scantily range, which is lush beyond words and go up to a K cup!

Curvy Kate - Scantilly Surrender Black Balcony Bra - £47

Longline bras are both sexy and completely reusable as normal every day bras, Primark I found have the better priced ones for the smaller bust and are also very pretty. My favourites are the black lace ones for just £5!

And finally, gentleman, I think these love heart boxers are both fun and on point! Get your kit off and put this little number on! Have a marvellous Valentines guys ;)

You can find Kim on her Blog callmekim.net @callmekimhq @callmekimhq callmekimchannel For my ladies out there who are conscious of their tummy, look no further than the cheeky lace babydoll with polka dot bow from NineX Lingerie.

MAINFRAME PRESENTS… 3 REASONS TO CELEBRATE OUR CREATIVE INDUSTRIES BOOSTING OUR ECONOMY Did you know the UK’s booming creative industries made a record contribution to the economy in 2016, according to figures published at the end of 2017. Industries including advertising and marketing, arts and film, TV and radio, and museums and galleries are all part of this thriving economic sector, which is now worth almost £92bn, according to the figures from the Department for Digital, Media, Culture and Sport. Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Karen Bradley said: “Britain’s creative industries play an essential role shaping how we are seen around the world but as these new statistics show they are also a vital part of the economy. The sector is now one of our fastest growing industries and continues to outperform the wider UK economy. This is a testament to the talent and drive of its workforce and we are working closely with them to make sure this fantastic success continues.”

The Rt Hon Theresa May, MP The Prime Minister said:“Britain already leads the world when it comes to new technology. We make more contactless payments than anywhere else and we help to lead the way in everything from FinTech to Artificial Intelligence. We are natural innovators, eager to incorporate the latest innovations into our lives.

JOBS, JOBS, JOBS UK creative Industries is growing at four times the rate for the UK workforce as a whole. In 2016, the East Midlands experience a whopping 54% increase in employment in the creative sector. It’s also interesting to look at who hires creatives. Amazingly approximately half of all creative jobs are found outside the ‘Creative Industries’.

we need to ensure they are represented on that virtual map going forward. We also want to see their local contribution more widely recognised and truly appreciated. As far as Derby and Derbyshire is concerned, the digital & creative sector is a place we can look to for jobs and growth; greater and faster than any other sector. So should we celebrate the digital & creative industries in Derby & Derbyshire? The answer has to be yes, and it looks like it’s going to be another great year.

Digital tech is also flourishing on the jobs front with more than 1.5 million people are already working within the sector. The number of digital tech jobs across the UK has grown at more than twice the rate of non-digital tech sectors.

The digital tech sector is also developing at an astounding pace growing 50% faster than the wider economy in 2015 according to the 2017 Tech Nation report.

TIPS FOR DIETS NOW WE’VE BEEN IN THE SWAPPING THINGS NEW YEAR FOR A WHILE, Try having brown bread instead of white, or a YOU MIGHT BE TIRED OF sandwich thin instead of bread. Have an apple at lunch instead of a chocolate bar. Use ketchup YOUR JANUARY DIET AND instead of mayo. You can save calories very easily RESTRICTING YOURSELF FROM by carefully choosing! EVERY THING YOU LOVE... IT COULD BE TIME TO MAKE CHECKING MENUS SOME LIFESTYLE CHANGES! AHEAD OF TIME Diet is a long-term commitment and I firmly believe that if you want changes to stay in place, they have to be maintainable. It’s all well and good saying ‘New Year, New Me’, but if your changes aren’t realistic, you’re much more likely to crash and burn and give up.

If you know you’re going out to eat, view the menu before you go. Plan what you’re going to have and then work the rest of your day around it. There are always healthier choices when you eat out; you just have to be willing to choose them.

There are so many things you can do to your diet to chop out excess calories without sacrificing your favourite foods!

A lot of restaurants also have the nutritional information online now, so pay attention to that. If I know I’m going out for food, I’ll save most of my calories for that and make my other meals smaller.

IGNORE LOW FAT Low fat foods aren’t really all they’re cracked up to be. Most of the good part has been taken out, so other elements, such as salt and sugar, are often added to compensate for the lack of taste. Whether it be milk, butter, yoghurt... Always go for full fat versions, but be mindful of serving sizes. 20 | IN Derby | February 18

ONE UNHEALTHY MEAL WON’T MAKE YOU FAT Just like one healthy meal won’t make you lean. Consistency is key, and as long as your diet is 90% whole, nutritious foods, you can definitely have a treat here and there!

THERE ARE NO SUCH THINGS AS GOOD AND BAD FOODS There are such things as good and bad diets and good and bad choices. Ultimately, it’s your choice what you put in your body. Also, be wary of portion sizes. People often think they eat well, and they might, but it’s the amount you eat as well as what!

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER Hunger can often be confused for thirst. Most people don’t drink enough water, but it’s essential for healthy bodily function. Try keeping a bottle with you all day. It definitely helps me remember to drink, and you can also keep track of how much you’ve had. So there we have it: A few simple tips to keep yourselves on track for the rest of the year. Good luck, and remember to enjoy yourselves!

PLANNING YOUR HOME PROJECTS – THE INTERIOR DESIGNER WAY SO, AFTER DRY JANUARY, THE DETOX IS COMPLETE, AND WE CAN START LOOKING FORWARD TO SPRING. BUT DON’T WASTE THE SHORTEST MONTH OF THE YEAR - I LIKE TO USE FEBRUARY AS A PLANNING MONTH FOR THE COMING SEASONS. Your home will need a ‘detox’ at some point in the year too and why not use the approach of Spring, and all the energy it brings, to do just that? The obligatory ‘Spring Clean’ quite often means freshening up schemes and updating interiors. If you are thinking of an overhaul to a room or even your entire home, remember the most important thing of all. Planning, planning, planning. Making lists and taking measurements may not sound very ‘interior design’ or exciting, but without the research, the detailed planning and the understanding of the space and where you want to take it, the task could prove a lot more expensive than it needs to be. Ask yourself, what is the room used for? What kind of feeling would you like to experience here? 22 | IN Derby | February 18

Big bold colours are a joy to see in the home, but in a room like a bedroom, you may want to consider softer tones which provoke tranquillity and relaxation.

Layered neutrals in this bedroom provide a peaceful sanctuary for rest and retreat. However, if you are looking to inject some colour and lift the palette in a room, use varying textures and patterns in fabrics which sit easily together.

This new collection, ‘Al Fresco’ from Prestigious Textiles, creates a real ‘designer look’ as the upholstery, cushions and curtains all have a relationship through colour or pattern. For stockists of this collection, plus many more fabrics and wallcoverings, see prestigioustextiles.co.uk If you’d really like to introduce a little elegance into a lounge or dining room but worry about it looking ‘over the top’ a few simple elements can help to create the right feel. If you’re using a backdrop of neutrals, such as creams, whites or taupes, then bring in a hint of black. A border on a cushion, one piece of furniture or a pair of black lamps will offer immediate sophistication and elevate your room to ‘boutique chic’. Metallics are still very much on trend this season and will also add an elegant, luxurious feel to a

room. You can achieve this with wallcoverings, fabrics or decorative pieces and accessories. The more confident you can be with your accessories, the more personality you’ll be showing off and therefore, the more personal and unique your interior will be. This collection of Serax Vases from amara.com, range from £50 - £58 and look stunning grouped together. By planning ahead and using some of these guidelines, you can ‘detox’ your home and be happy with the renewed and refreshed feel you’ve created. Most importantly, enjoy your home and make sure it really does reflect you, your personality and how you live!
