FOX & GRAPES Sneinton’s famous pub Peggers Inn, opens once again after more than ten vacant years under its new name, The Fox & Grapes! With the people of Nottingham casting their vote to decide the name of the pub for its re-opening, The Fox & Grapes takes back its original name from the 1830s. There are various nods to the pub’s vast heritage, including the iconic “Peggers” pub sign suspended just above the bar. The single-room pub also has an outdoor seating area on either side of the pub, perfect for enjoying the atmosphere of the local Sneinton Market and Creative Quarter events. You can expect the usual diverse and high quality selection of cask, keg and craft beers that Castle Rock pubs are renowned for, plus a great range of spirits, wines, coffees and soft drinks. The Fox’s food menu offers a unique and delicious take on simple dishes like hand-stretched pizza, jacket potatoes and fresh platters. It’s a particularly good spot for vegan and gluten free diners to enjoy a bite.

Drinking Gin in Nottingham has just got a whole lot better, with the opening of the city centre’s first dedicated gin bar. With 130 different varieties, Gincident on Friar Lane is a gin lover’s dream. Owners John and Max are big fans of gin, which was partly behind their motivation to open Gincident. There are a lot of different varieties that are on trend and up-market. As well as a large number of gins from the UK we have gin from Canada, Slovenia, New Zealand, Belgium, Sweden, USA, Australia and many other countries. The choice of fruity gins is extremely popular, with rhubarb being most people’s flavour of choice. We even have our very own exclusive range from Black Powder, with some very different flavours which are great when mixed with Prosecco. Next, we tucked into some fried Mac and cheese balls with a gooey and spicy centre, garlic butter fries, fried corn on the cob with a tasty spiced butter dripped over the top. Then we had some ribs and MOJO’s very own Hangover Burger which came with a bacon patty, hash brown, grilled cheese, a friend egg and breakfast sauce. Three words, Oh My God! Now I think it’s fair to say, when you eat at MOJO you do exactly that, EAT so come willing! HERE’S SOMETHING A BIT DIFFERENT! MY EASY ZUCCHINI BREAD RECIPE IS LOVELY AND MOIST AND SUPER TASTY. IF YOU LOVE BANANA BREAD AND BAKING, YOU’RE SURE TO LOVE THIS TOO. INGREDIENTS By Warren Nash (Blogger) SERVES: 10 | PREP TIME: 15 MINUTES | COOKING TIME: 50 MINUTES | 339 CALORIES 21G FAT PER SERVING.
• 220G PLAIN FLOUR • PINCH OF SALT • ½ TSP BICARBONATE OF SODA • ½ TSP BAKING POWDER • ½ TSP CINNAMON • 60ML MILK
• 1 EGG • 200ML VEGETABLE OIL • 170G CASTER SUGAR • 1 TSP VANILLA EXTRACT • 1 COURGETTE • 20G WALNUTS
1. Preheat the oven to 180c/350f.

THE BASE
I recommend Urban decay’s One and Done. This isn’t officially a foundation, but everyone uses it as that. It’ll give you enough coverage to hide any blemishes, but still let your sun kissed skin show through giving you a lovely semi-matte finish. It’s perfect for all skin types, even with my oily skin, this is probably the only base that I don’t need to set with powder. If you feel you also need some concealer, only use a tiny amount.

If you’re lucky enough to have full thick brows then all you would need is a brow gel to tidy and set them in place. For most of us we need a litte pencil or powder. Even with a no makeup look, eyeshadow can still help make you look more awake and give your eyes some shape, but stick with nude shades. MAYHEM FILM FEST
With more than 720 years of history, Nottingham’s Goose Fair will be hosted again on the Forest Recreation Ground from Wednesday 4th October - Sunday 8th October.
Mayhem Film Festival returns to Broadway for its 13th edition on Thursday 12th October Sunday 15th October.
Goose Fair is one of Europe’s most famous travelling fairs and is still a fantastic event that delights all ages. With over 500 attractions, there will be the latest white knuckle experiences, family rides and the old favourites including the Waltzers, Carousels and Hook-a-Duck. Food is always a highlight at the fair, with the traditional Goose Fair food of mushy peas and mint sauce, candy floss and brandy snaps. Visitors will be able to eat their way around the world, with chestnuts and doughnuts to food from the Caribbean, Chinese noodles, Indian kebabs, Spanish churros, Paella and French crepes. As always, admission to the fair is free.
With premieres, previews, special guests and midnight screenings, Mayhem Film Festival showcases the best in horror, sci-fi and cult cinema, through feature films, short films and special events. Featuring premieres, previews, masterclasses, international special guest filmmakers, and unique live cinema events, the festival has developed a reputation as one of the strongest and most innovative genre festivals in the country. They’re based at Broadway in Nottingham, one of the UK’s leading independent cinemas and creative hubs. The festival will open with a preview screening of Benjamin Barfoot’s Double Date, which will be followed by a Q&A with members of the cast and crew. Have you been to see the Dinosaurs of China yet? It’s a one-time only world exclusive exhibition of dinosaurs coming to Europe for the first time. THE MAGNIFICENT SPIEGELTENT Step inside the amazing Spiegel Tent! BEER & CIDER FESTIVAL Nottingham CAMRA’s annual festival will once again be held at Nottingham Castle from Wednesday 11th October to Saturday 14th October 2017. With well over 1,000 different real ales and over 200 real ciders on offer, there will also be live entertainment at all times on the Victorian Bandstand. Robin Hood will be appearing during the day until 5pm, as part of the trade session and the early hours of being open to the public. Nottingham Oktoberfest is back this year from Wednesday 25th October - Sunday 29th October. The Forest Recreation Ground will be transformed into a traditional Oktoberfest with live music and a great atmosphere. Nottingham Oktoberfest, is celebrated in a giant marquee with a capacity of 2,000 seats. Long rows of tables and benches fill up the tent and blue and white colours enhance the cheerful atmosphere. A German band will entertain revellers all night with live music and performances. Smell the woodsmoke, hear the minstrels sing as merry chords from harp and lute fill the autumnal air. Join Robin Hood and his merry men in the grounds of the Castle as it is transformed into a 12th Century medieval village and living history encampment.
The festival began in 2006 and last year’s event was absolutely fantastic with the venues and streets of Hockley full of festival attendees.
The event is taking place from Saturday 21st Ocotber to Sunday 22nd October. Meet colourful characters and enjoy period crafts, foods and entertainment. Rub shoulders with Nottingham’s most famous legend cheering him on as he competes in the arena with lance and sword. A must see for all the family.
The Hockley Hustle music festival is set to return to Nottingham’s Creative Quarter on Sunday 8th October, featuring 250 acts across 35 stages.

ONLY THE VERY FEW MAKE THE GRADE TO PLAY ICE HOCKEY IN NORTH AMERICA. IT IS CANADA’S NATIONAL SPORT AND THE AMERICANS LOVE IT - YOU ALMOST CAN’T TURN A CORNER WITHOUT FINDING AN ICE RINK, OR MOST LIKELY A HOCKEY MAD FAMILY’S BACK YARD TURNED INTO AN ICE RINK. The people of Nottingham certainly love their ice hockey too, as more than 5,000 turn out every week to watch Nottingham Panthers play at the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham and the club regularly has 6,300 sell-out crowds, especially against arch rivals Sheffield Steelers. The sport’s famous old names roll off the tongue; Gretzky, Orr, Howe, Lemieux to name but a few, while Sydney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin are two of the players who have been on everyone’s lips for the last decade or so and now new stars are being born, such as Toronto Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews. In Nottingham, most people have heard of Zamick, Strongman, Adey, Hadden and Nieckar and the 16 | IN Nottingham | October 2017
more recent heroes such as current coach Corey Neilson and prolific British forward David Clarke. It has been a great start to the season for the Panthers as they top their Champions League group, producing three wins from four matches against sides with far superior budgets than their own. The results of the lowest-ranked side and 32nd seed have included a 4-2 victory over Swiss side Bern, who are seeded fourth in the prestigious European tournament.
The name Perlini is one which is well known in UK ice hockey, especially in Nottingham, but now across the ice hockey world - and 27-year-old Brett Perlini is ready to start a new chapter with Nottingham Panthers.
Not many British players get drafted in the NHL but Brett and his younger brother Brendan have both been drafted, with Brett being picked in the seventh round by Anaheim Ducks in 2010.
Brendan, 21, was amongst the top prospects in the 2014 draft, being picked 12th in the first round by Arizona Coyotes and he had his breakthrough in the NHL last season. Brett’s dad, Fred, played for the Panthers in 198687, where he scored a staggering 89 goals in 35 matches and went on to ice for numerous clubs in the UK, including Fife Flyers, Streatham Redskins and Guildford Flames. The Perlini brothers are proof that players from the UK can make it in some of the best leagues in the world, but how tough is it making it in North
America when you are from Great Britain, who are ranked 24th in the world? “At first I think people would look and go ‘oh this guy is from England’, so you definitely have to do your talking on the ice,” Perlini said. “You just need to go out and score a couple of goals and then they go ‘oh yes, he’s legit’. “I think a lot of the kids in this country think the Canadians are so good at hockey, which they are, but a lot of kids from the UK are right there with them.” Brett’s younger brother, Brendan, is a great example with the 21-year-old appearing 57 times for NHL side Arizona Coyotes last season, scoring 14 goals and contributing seven assists for 21 points.

“I think the young kids should look at the North America route, like my brother and I took, and my brother is a good example,” continued Perlini. “He played hockey in England and now he is in the NHL, so it definitely can be done and hopefully that can inspire young players.” Panthers have made a great start in the CHL and need one more win from their final two group games to guarantee their progress to the knockout stages, but that must wait until October as the domestic campaign now comes to the fore. “We had some good games in Europe and we are looking to take that into the league now,” continued Perlini. “We want to start at a good pace and set the tone for the rest of the season. “We have to take the confidence from the Champions Hockey League and use it in a good way. You can’t look at any opponent differently. You just have to play your game and make them adapt to you. “Teams will have seen how well we have done in the CHL and they will be after us. After always being a fond foodie and with little idea on which direction to go following her A-Levels, Ellie decided she was going to do something she loved. After researching various options, she discovered Le Cordon Bleu London and enrolled on a Pastry & Confectionery programme. As part of the Diplôme de Pâtisserie, which is recognised globally as one of the most respected culinary qualifications in pastry and baking, Ellie expanded her knowledge through the teachings of the schools classically trained Pâtisserie Chefs. It was here that Ellie fell in love with the art of chocolate and all the different ways chocolate can be used to create artistic masterpieces, from painting through to sculpting. Following a trip to Belgium with her mum, visiting an array of delicious chocolate shops, Ellie was inspired by a mandarin flavoured chocolate yet surprised that most of the shops were offering their naughty nibbles in the same colour – and voila, an idea was born. 20 | IN Nottingham | October 2017

The city itself is in central northern Italy, close to Florence and not far from Milan in one direction and Venice in another.
Bologna, as the name suggests, is most famous for being the birthplace of Bolognese sauce, known locally as ragu.
It provides visitors with an authentic Italian experience, from the red tiled rooftops and historic towers in the old town, to the fantastic food.
However, don’t be tempted to ask for a spaghetti Bolognese when there, as tagliatelle is the pasta used to accompany this dish!
Walking through the city’s narrow streets, you get a real sense of its culinary prowess with eating establishments spilling out on to the pavements everywhere.
The city is also famous for tortellini and you can see it being made in the deli’s and restaurants as you walk around the city centre.
All ingredients are fresh and locally sourced, which only enhances the taste and experience of eating the most traditional and authentic Italian food you are likely to find.
There are plenty to choose from and lots of deli’s selling meats, cheeses and freshly made pasta to get the taste buds going.
Many of the restaurants in Bologna are relaxed places to enjoy the local wine, whilst sharing a platter of the local cheeses and cured meats which is a must do when visiting the city.
To end your meal, there are also plenty of desserts to choose from, or visit one of the cities many ‘gelataria’s’ for some of Italy’s best ice cream!
If wanting to experience the city’s famous ‘tagliatelle’ Bolognese or its tortellini, you can be sure that the pasta will have been hand made earlier in the day.

THE HEALTH & FITNESS INDUSTRY IS GROWING EVERYDAY AND NUTRITION IS A HUGE PART OF THAT. Since I started Personal Training, I've had a lot of people ask me for meal/diet plans. This will get a straight-up no from me. A diet plan is something you would maybe stick to for a few weeks to get in that dress or to shed a few pounds for a wedding. I don't agree with it. Your nutrition should be something you want to change for good; not for the next few weeks and finish when you can't be bothered anymore.
IT’S 80% DIET, 20% TRAINING. You can't out-train bad nutrition. It doesn't matter how many times you workout a week... If your eating isn't on point, you can ruin all the hard work you're putting in at the gym or elsewhere. I follow the 'If It Fits Your Macros' approach to eating and have done for the past 4 or so years. Your macros are your proteins, carbs and fats and 28 | IN Nottingham | October 2017

TRAIN DIRTY as long as you're within your calorie range and are hitting your macro numbers, you don't have to restrict yourself from eating anything. I will always tell my clients the same. If you're eating below your maintenance calories, (the amount of calories you can eat to maintain your current weight), you will lose weight. If you eat above your maintenance calories, you will gain weight.
IT’S CALORIES IN VS CALORIES OUT. I'm no Nutritionist, but it's honestly not that hard. It's much simpler than some will make you believe. However, I'm not going to advise you to go and smash a Big Mac because you've got 1000 calories left for the day. You could do, but you have to also think about the macro ratios within that food. How does the fat content compare to the protein content? Macro numbers are just as important as calorie numbers. If your diet is mostly healthy, whole nutritious foods, and you're hitting your macros, you will have room for treats.
WHEN I’M TRYING TO LOSE A BIT OF FAT, MY DIET WON’T CHANGE. My calories will be reduced, but I won't restrict myself from eating anything. I've learnt from the past that restricting certain food groups does you no favours. Your brain will instantly tell you that you want that food, even if you actually don't! As soon as you reintroduce it in to your diet, you will most likely regain weight as your calories will be higher again. It just isn't sustainable. Working the foods you love in to your daily calories is much more beneficial. Fitness isn't about sacrificing everything you love and swapping it for chicken, broccoli and rice every single day. If you like that, that's fine! But it's about finding the balance between healthy and enjoyable!
