Team Rowathon

By kind permission of the Brunswick Shopping Centre the team held a charity Rowathon in the centre on Saturday the 16th of June. Our aim, in addition to raising much needed funds for the team, was to row one mile for every year since the formation of the North York Moors National Park. A grand total of 60 miles. Coincidently there is another diamond jubilee this year which we were also celebrating. Our aim was to achieve this target non stop between the hours of 09:00 and 18:00 with team members taking 20 minute stints on the rower. We are pleased to announce we achieved our target with one hour and five minutes to spare and at the same time raised the grant total of ÂŁ534 for the team. It was good to catch up with ex team member Jim Goodman while he enjoyed coffee in the side lines. Thanks go to the Brunswick Shopping Centre, members of the public who stopped by to talk and donate, Peter and the fundraising team for running the day and all the team members who rowed in the challenge.

-3Team History In the year of so I have been producing the newsletter a number of operational team members and honorary life members have been kind enough to provide me with scanned slides and photographs to use in the newsletter, on the website and facebook etc. It would be good to build on this and I would appreciate any records, pictures or such to start building a team archive. Please have a dig around to see what you have, I will copy and return anything which is provided to me and acknowledge the provider whenever I use it. To set the ball rolling, ever wondered what team members did why marshalling the likes of the Crosses Walk when they did not have Smartphones or Blackberry’s to text each other or to read their emails?. Mick Lawson lent me a few drawings he produced in his day and I will publish one or more in the next few newsletters.

Team fundraising walks 2012 Monthly update

We hosted a very successful Falcon Flyer in March. Along with a very wet but popular ½ Marathon in April. Our last challenge event of the year is the Saltergate circuit th – Saturday 6 October th

Please make sure the 6 is in your diary. Remember we need 13 staff to man the base, control, vehicles and sweep the route before we cover any check points. We also need people the night before to set up the venue and the equipment needed for each check point. We have approached a number of companies for sponsorship but perhaps team members could suggest other opportunities? The Raven Hall hotel sponsored part of the costs of the Falcon Flyer and Construction Marine Limited sponsored the ½ marathon. Please advertise the events to friends, colleagues, clubs and organisations. Remember entry fees are refunded if individuals raise more than £50 sponsorship for the team. Entry forms for the events are on the web site. We are also advertising with running clubs and walking groups. Let’s hope they all turn into entries. We saw a significant increase in entries for the Saltergate circuit last year and the Falcon this year let’s see if we can continue that success.

-4Notices Peter’s patch Filey Emergency Services Day Sunday 12th August. To all team members. You will recall me asking for volunteers for 'The Filey Emergencies Services Show' on Sun 12th August, well its approaching fast. I have included a sketch of the proposed Display. It can be adjusted to suit on the day. As you can see we require about min 12 people for this event, open to all team members new & old. As we are giving this demo twice during the day am/pm please let me know if you can make both or whatever times suits your schedule. We also have a stand at the show so there is lots to do, raising the Teams profile. It is a fun day in a good venue and well attended by the public. A good chance to raise money too. Thanks and regards to all. Peter H.

Out of area training 12/14th October The committee along with the training sub-committee have arranged an extra training weekend out of area. We will be based at Cockermouth in bunkhouse type accommodation, which is split into smaller dorms 4/6 person. Saturday will be taken up with hill skills such as navigation safety on steep ground etc and on Sunday there will be an exercise finishing about 14.00 allowing us to return home for 18.00ish. This training weekend is extra to our training calendar and you will not be penalised if you do not attend. If you are interested and would like to go then please contact Roger by the end of the month (July) if there are more names than spaces, all the names will be put into a “hat” and the first 19 out will be the ones going. If you are not picked this time you will be given preferential treatment on the next Team Training out of area.
