Our World of Eggs Every day at DAVA Foods, 300 dedicated, competent employees work to deliver eggs and egg products to a market of 28 million consumers in northern Europe. Shell Eggs ORGANIC EGGS | FREE RANGE EGGS Environmentally friendly through the use of 100% recycled plastic Some of our organic eggs are packed in a recyclable plastic packaging (R-PET), which itself is made from 100% recycled plastic. Studies show that R-PET is more environmentally friendly than both pulp and polystyrene packaging in relation to energy consumption, product life-cycle and carbon footprint.

2020 Strategy DAVA Foods has the ambitious goal that by 2020, 50% of our turnover should be derived from organic products. One step along the way has been to develop new concepts, that should contribute to the promotion of organic products and thereby ensure better animal welfare. We offer organic eggs in a wide array of sizes, across numerous different concepts and offerings. We take great care in ensuring that our organic eggs are subjected to intensive salmonella controls and meet the official requirements of organic egg production. DAVA Foods stands out from the crowd in relation to salmonella controls and testing. Organic Danish Eggs • Welfare screenings that focus on the feather condition and welfare of the animals • Organic rearing and salmonella control from day 0 • In the barn, there must be a maximum of 6 hens per m2 • In the barn, there must be a maximum of 3,000 hens • In the coops, there must be a minimum of 4 m2 per hen • The hens receive organic feed, which does not contain GMOs • The hens have access to outdoor areas all year round • Coops must provide shelter and vegetation – a minimum of 35% of the area must be covered with trees and bushes.

Organic farming has become mainstream, boasting impressive growth rates over the last number of years. This has fostered new organic concepts that take a broader view of what organic farming entails. The Gaardbo (literally “Farm Dweller”) is a mythical figure; a little elf or gnome. Scandinavian farmers used to believe that this little creature crept around the farm to care for the animals and children there. This meant that it was important to also take good care of one’s Gaardbo. The Gaardbo name was chosen to show that the hens under the Gaardbo Eggs brand are particularly well looked after. The demand for local food products is a growing trend. More and more consumers are interested in where their food comes from and how it is produced. They appreciate honesty and transparency. Our Barkholt Farm Eggs concept is a unique one. It centres on the Barkholt farm; a beautifully situated estate, built in 1872, that has remained in the same family for generations. Karen and Nis-Jørn are the fifth generation of farmers at Barkholt – and their four children look set to continue the tradition. The entire family actively participates in caring for the hens, packing eggs, etc. More than half of the hens’ feed is produced in the farm’s own fields, where wheat and rapeseed are grown. In fact, it is the feed that gives the egg yolks of Barkholt Farm Eggs their distinctive golden-yellow colour. DAVA Foods created this patented new concept that turns egg boxes into toys. It’s a unique series of colourful egg boxes specifically targeted at families with children. The boxes are made from polypropylene (PP05) and go in the dishwasher, allowing them to be reused as building blocks that click together, making eggs – always a firm favourite with children – even more fun.
The box design is patented and is CE certified in accordance with European Toy legislation. The box weighs less than standard egg boxes and takes up half the space when opened and stacked. An important consideration at home and for the environment. The design also makes transport simpler and more fuel-efficient.
Not only can the eggyplay® boxes be used to build forts and castles – they are also excellent storage containers. A hygienic and environmentally friendly solution which helps limit packaging waste.
Environmental Benefits EcoTray goes in the dishwasher, allowing it to be reused in many different ways; washed and reused at home, recycled, or returned and reused as an egg tray. EcoTrays weigh less than standard egg trays and take up half the space when opened and stacked. The compact, lightweight design also makes transport easier and more fuel-efficient.

If their welfare does not meet both our and our customers' expectations, action plans and follow-ups will be initiated at the individual producer. In addition a special welfare screening has been introduced in organic egg production.

The quality system ensures the production of eggs in terms of quality, food safety, production conditions and animal welfare. At the same time, we are in close dialogue and cooperation with all our manufacturers to ensure quality throughout the entire value chain - from hatching and breeding, through to egg production and logistics. This also applies to the controls in place over the feed that the hens receive throughout their lives. Nothing is left to chance.

Danish eggs are subject to strict and intensive salmonella and quality controls, which ensures that Danish eggs are the safest in the world. As an example, our egg producers must submit samples for salmonella testing every 2 weeks - the EU requirement is every 15 weeks. Consequently, in Denmark, a brood of hens will be checked approx. 28 times during their lifetime, whereas other EU chickens may only be tested 4 times.
