It is hard to believe that in 1993 we launched a local wedding resource product. Well 25 years later we are still here and we have you, the wonderful brides, the readers and the incredible advertisers to thank. Back in 1993, there was no internet. Now you can view the publication online with every page linked to the advertisers website. But there is nothing like holding and reading a publication to really engage with the content. What makes this edition even more special is it features the wedding of our daughter Lindsay. Going through the wedding planning process for her event allowed me to see first hand how incredibly talented wedding professionals are and how hard they work to make your event perfect. A really big thank you to the community of Upstate wedding professionals for all that you do. Also, let me thank my family, my wife Lynn of 33 years and daughters Katie and Lindsay for all your support through the years. Their Story - Alex and I became friends when I was a freshman and he was a sophomore in high school at Riverside High. We met when we were little on the Sugar Creek Swim Team, but I’ll skip the years in between (Go Sharks!). We started dating when I was a sophomore and he was a junior at Riverside. Things fell into place for us, and we both attended the University of South Carolina where Alex studied criminal justice and I studied education. After college we both moved back to Greenville and were lucky enough to find employment: Alex is a deputy for Greenville County Sheriff’s Office and I’m a middle school teacher for Greenville County Schools. One cold February day, Alex and I decided to go to our favorite restaurant, Miyabi Japanese Steakhouse (of course) to celebrate Valentine’s Day a little bit early because he had to work on actual Valentine’s Day. We decided to take my dog, Copper, along with our friends Troy and Katelyn and their dog, Stella, to Falls Park downtown to walk the dogs and take pictures at the waterfall before dinner. Little did I know this was not a spontaneous trip that I thought was planned the same day that it happened. Katelyn was taking pictures of Alex and me when all of a sudden, I turn, and Alex is down on one knee opening a very fancy looking box. My jaw dropped, and the first thing I said to him was “Stand up!” because I knew I wanted to look him in the eyes when I said YES of course! From that point we began planning our wedding. We married on June 23, 2017 at Covenant United Methodist Church and celebrated with a reception at Zen. We share our event and these wonderful wedding professionals who made our day most special.

Prior to starting her own wedding planning business in 2007 she was involved in hotel management. Mandy was the Director of Catering Sales for the Westin Poinsett Hotel for 7 years. In addition to opening the hotel and being the Director, she was the wedding specialist for the Poinsett. During her time at the Poinsett, she planned and orchestrated well over 400 weddings, every corporate event you could imagine from the smallest business meeting to the BMW PRO AM Charity Classic, spectacular galas, fundraisers, Holiday Parties, etc. She was the Director of Events for the Commerce Club for several years, and the Director of Sales for the Hampton Inn downtown Greenville, prior to starting her business. Adam & Caroline OUR STORY

This is the day I met my person to do this thing called life. December 31st I thought would be like any other day, getting together with some friends in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina for New Years. When I first met Adam I was not attracted to him at all. I thought he was a nice guy, cute smile, very handsome but definitely a Mr. Know It All. As the night went on we talked, laughed had a good night with our friends, he was a total gentleman but the attraction still was not there for me. Fast forward to six months down the road, I was back at the beach with some friends and little did I know it was Adam’s Birthday. There was something about him that night that all of a sudden sparked my interest in him. Later on in the week I asked him to come to the beach house my family was staying at for the week to meet my family. In an instant he clicked with my older brothers and my parents, I thought to myself this guy might be the one. Adam moved back to Virginia after Law School which left us to do long distance for a year, seeing each other twice a month was not easy. Eventually I moved up there with him to see if this relationship could still work even though all we ever knew was face time, long talks on the phone and sometimes monthly visits. Christmas of 2016-I thought would be my year for Adam to finally propose his business was excelling, and I had a great job as a Surgical Assistant In Richmond. Christmas came and it was time for gifts, Adam was very fond of this one gift he was giving me. Once I opened it I thought this was part of his plan, three dog collars all with their name and address although they all had HIS last name instead of mine. I passed the collars around to my family trying to stall time; I just knew he was about to get down on one knee. Well ten minutes past and he was still sitting in the same chair, nothing, no proposal. Lets just say that was a long trip back to Virginia. A few weeks went by; and on January 8th 2017 turned out to not be just another day in Virginia. When I got up to look outside it was the most gorgeous snowstorm I had ever seen. We went to breakfast and on the way home, Adam wanted to take the dogs to our farm and let them play in the snow, so we did‌. in nine-degree weather! As I was freezing standing outside at our favorite spot on the farm, from the corner of my eye he was down on one knee asking for me to take his hand to do this thing called life.

As I began planning our wedding I immediately knew who I wanted to have be apart of our special day. With the help of my Mom and fabulous wedding experts, we were able to pull off my dream wedding I had hoped for since I was a little girl. Hannah + Dylan Presented by Berbank Events
Their Story - Hannah & Dylan were married on March 11, 2017 at the Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg. The two high school sweethearts dated 8 years before tying the knot! The ceremony was held under a draped tent, accented by gold Chiavari chairs & crystal chandeliers. Hannah wanted a glamourous, modern styled wedding. Her colors were blends of champagne, blush, and white. Twigs Florals provided gorgeous orchids in large glass cylinders to accent champagne colored linens. In lieu of programs, Berbank Events custom designed a 3’ x 5’ free standing acrylic sign that was hand lettered by Kait Fowler of Greenville. Touches of acrylic were used throughout the event to create a modern mood. The ceremony space was flipped into a contemporary lounge space with all white faux leather seating and a large communal acrylic table. To conclude with the evening, french fries were provided on chic acrylic trays in hand made paper cones. For favors Hannah chose individual succulents, accentuated with tags designed by Writefully His of Spartanburg. The Carolina Country Club served a feast of heavy hors d’oeuvres and a gorgeous 6-tiered gold cake that was intricately created by Buttercream Bakehouse. Guests partied the night away with the Back 9 Band and Hannah’s mom surprised her with an appearance from the Clemson Tiger! It truly was a special evening, the two made their exit with purple & orange glow sticks & rode away in her father’s red Chevelle. According to Hannah, “her dreams came true with a wonderful wedding, every vendor made it possible along with her parents and family. It really was the wedding of my dreams”. Mackenzie and Derrick attended high school together, but the love connection did not occur until 2 years later when Derrick noticed Mackenzie had liked several of his Instagram pictures. He reached out to her and that’s when their happily ever after began. After months of planning, Mackenzie was excited to finally see the wedding vision become a reality and marry her best friend. In Her Words - Graham and I met in high school and first hung out at “senior week” in Myrtle Beach when I was 16. We re-connected my freshman year of college and started dating. I was going to USC Upstate at the time but transferred to Clemson my sophomore year as he quickly turned me into a Tiger! Graham and I dated for 6 and half years before getting engaged. Even from the start of our relationship, I always knew he was my soulmate and we would one day get married. My proposal, though I am bias, was the absolute best! We went on a trip to Mexico together and he proposed on the beach as the sun set, it was more beautiful and better than I could have ever imagined. I felt the exact same about our wedding day. Although there was tons of stressful planning leading up to our big day, it turned out to be amazing, and honestly the best day of both of our lives!

Their Story - Joshua met Parul by chance on a Thursday night four years ago. He never had intentions of going out that night, but his brother and a few friends insisted that he come out for a drink. Parul happened to be there that night. The two became friends that night and over the coming months developed a bond. Fast forward four years and many adventures later, Josh proposed to Parul in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico after a romantic dinner. The couple’s guests traveled from all over the world. The wedding celebration started Friday night with the henna party hosted at the Rutherford in the courtyard. Guests got henna done while Saffrons and Persis’ provided action food stations outside for guests. Dinner was followed by a dance party where several of Parul’s friends and family performed several traditional Indian dances. Saturday morning started with the groom’s baraat arriving at the Rutherford followed by a traditional Hindu ceremony. The bride and groom both wore traditional Indian clothes. Guests had lunch and went back to the hotel for a break. The Christian ceremony was scheduled for 6pm at the Rutherford which was followed by cocktail hour and reception. The bride wore a beautiful white gown for the ceremony and later changed into a fusion Indian outfit for the reception.

Their Story - Carson and I initially met in high school. We had several classes together (we really did have Chemistry), and as athletes, we often saw each other around the locker rooms before and after practices or games. Although we saw each other often, we just considered ourselves acquaintances. It wasn’t until a few years later in college, during my freshman year and his sophomore year, that we really got to know each other. Carson had seen a picture I posted to Facebook of myself at my sorority semiformal and thought I looked pretty, so he reached out to me to catch up and see how I was doing. I was initially hesitant to speak to him, since I had never done so before, but with a little encouragement from my girlfriends, I said hello. That simple hello was one of the greatest and most life changing moments for us. Facebook messages turned into text messages, text messages turned into phone calls, phone calls turned into FaceTime, and FaceTime turned into frequent visits. We spent almost 3 years driving back and forth across the state of South Carolina to see each other -- learning, loving, and growing each step of the way. Those many miles and memories have formed the most beautiful foundation for our marriage today and we couldn’t be happier.

How They Met - It all started on Cinco de Mayo 2011. This day was Chris’s (groom) birthday. Chris was adopted and never knew his biological family growing up. On this one night, he happened to tell a complete stranger at a restaurant that he was adopted from Easley, SC (something he never really does) and that it was his 25th birthday that day. They small talked briefly and parted ways. Two weeks later, he happened to be at this same restaurant and the same women walks in and heads straight to him. She goes on to say, “I don’t know how to say this, but I think I know who your biological mother is.” After several seconds of silence and processing, she goes on to explain that only one boy was born at the small Easley Hospital on his birthday, and that one boy was adopted. He only knew his mother’s last name and once mentioned out loud, both of their mouths dropped. This woman happened to be best friends with his mother. After a few weeks and a DNA test, he met his mother and two half sisters and eventually his biological father as well. He remains close to his biological family to this day! Here is where I enter the story. Chris asked his “new” half-sisters if they knew any red-headed girls. They did! It just so happens that I was best friends with one of his sisters in high school. Around this same time I moved back to SC from VA. I had called his sister so we could go out and catch up. She asks if she can bring her brother (which was puzzling!) but said she would fill me in when we met. We all went out and I met her brother. At one point during that night, he turns to his sister and says “I will marry that girl one day.” Five years later and we did in fact get married!

Their Story - Ben and I met through mutual friends in downtown Greenville and instantly hit it off. I was out with my friends, he was out with his.Randomly a friend of mine saw a friend of Ben’s at Smoke on the Water restaurant. Ben and I met at this moment. When we talked, we knew we wanted to get to know each other even more and he asked me for my number and if I was interested in going on a date one evening very soon. Of course, I said yes and we have been together ever since! After a beautiful year of dating, Ben surprised me with a weekend trip to the mountains. I had no clue where we were going, what we were doing, or how long we would be there. I just knew, it would be cold. On the first day of our trip, he surprised me with a day of snowboarding where I spend most of my day on the ground but I still enjoyed watching him and of course the beautiful view. The next day, we looked out of the window and there was a breathtaking, 9-inch, blanket of snow covering the ground. It was definitely a surprise for the both of us. Ben continued with the suspenseful agenda by taking me to another unknown location. Next, thing I know we are pulling into the Biltmore House, it was one of the most incredible sites I had ever seen. Turning through the winding roads, looking into a winter wonderland. We arrived at the front entrance of the house and Ben tells me that we have a little bit of time until our tour begins and he explained that he wanted to go see some of the sites around the exterior of the home while it was snowing. Of course, I agreed and we took off. Luckily I wore my snow gear, and after a mile walk through the gardens we arrived to the beautiful Bass Pond. We walked down to a spectacular gazebo, he took my hands, got down on one knee, and asked me to be his wife. When I thought it could not be any more perfect, I glanced across the pond and my family jumps out of the bushes to surprise me. I was so thrilled that they were there to capture and be a part of such a special day in our lives.

Their Story - Lauren graduated from Anderson University where Hunter also attended. While searching for a home church in Anderson Lauren and Hunter met in their Sunday School class. During the summer of 2014 they started dating. In June of 2016 Hunter proposed to Lauren while at the Biltmore Estates. One year later they tied the knot on the front lawn of Forevermore Farm’s Stable grounds. This southern belle now resides in Powdersville with her true love. They are members of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Lauren teaches elementary school and Hunter is with Michelin. Lauren always dreamed of getting married on a beautiful lawn with scenery of God’s perfect creation. When she first visited Forevermore Farms the grounds for the Stables had not been completed but the vision owner Ren Wagner shared persuaded Lauren to trust her blueprints. It was a dream come true! From the big barn doors, the flowered cross, beautiful barn wood tables and such breathtaking natural view. It was all Lauren wanted and more.

Their Story - Ellen and Bryan met during college. After four years of friendship, they began dating. From that moment, both knew they were made for each other. Bryan proposed at sunset by the ocean at Litchfield Beach, Ellen’s favorite place. The wedding ceremony was held in the garden at Indigo Hall at 5:00pm on Labor Day (9-4-17). After the ceremony, guests enjoyed appetizers and beverages in the Upper Hall. The cocktail hour was followed by a buffet style barbecue dinner in the Lower Hall. The Rev. Lane Carter blessed the meal. Guests enjoyed hours of dancing and a photobooth. The evening ended with a sparkler exit at 9:30pm.

Their Story - Introduced by mutual friends, but “matched” through online dating, Amy and Parikshit had an instant connection characterized by humorous emoji banter, adventures on bikes, and thoughtful discussions on social justice. The couple lived four hours apart (Atlanta, GA, and Hickory, NC), so finding the Hilton Greenville proved to be the most convenient and fitting location for the multi-day celebrations for over 500 guests. The six wedding events made for a festive long weekend, filled with extensive décor, colorful clothing, freshly made Indian food, and lively music that kept everyone dancing. Amy and Parikshit also made sure to squeeze in elements of their story, from using emojis in their First Look to riding a bicycle rickshaw for the Groom’s Procession. Their joyous Hindu wedding ceremony represented over four thousand years of symbolic rituals to ensure an eternal, blessed union in the presence of family and friends from all across the world.

Their Story - It all started one fateful evening before freshman bible study in the dining hall. Wesley was a junior while Sarah was a freshman at Appalachian State University. The first six months of our relationship consisted of thousands of face-time dates and a hop across the pond from SC to Spain, where I spent a semester abroad. Shortly after my return from Spain , Collins got down on one knee and asked me to spend forever with him . Without a single doubt , but with many, many tears... I Said Yes! We both knew we wanted an outdoor ceremony and I had always wanted my Grandaddy’s BBQ restaurant to cater my reception! After months of searching for a venue , my Dad came upon the idea of building a venue on our family’s land in the country . Sixty one days and many sleepless nights later “The Barn” was completed the NIGHT BEFORE our wedding! Their Story - The couple met in February 2013 as Lana began work at Rogers & Callcott Environmental Engineering. A co-worker introduced them as they both had a love for the outdoors. Daniel asked Lana if she would help with his new endeavor on Lake Jocassee providing guided kayak tours of remote waterfalls, and instructing beginners with stand-up paddle board lessons. This is where their love for Lake Jocassee and each other all began. Their whimsical wedding in the woods was held at The Lost Treehouse of Lake Jocassee--a wedding venue created by Lana, Daniel, family and friends on their private property at Lake Jocassee. They both had an instant connection and have been together ever since. Three months later they went fishing with Callie’s sisters and Michael proposed to Callie at the family pond. That was in March and was married 7 months later. One month before their one year anniversary of dating. They wanted the wedding to be simple and rustic but with elegant romance. They wanted the ceremony to be intimate with just immediate family. They desired the people that they loved the most around them in that moment. Their Story - Jason and Chivali met in 2008 in Spartanburg, SC. After Jason finished Nursing School in December of 2015, he planned a proposal during Mardi Gras at Jackson Square Park, New Orleans on February 5, 2016. Without hesitation Shivali said “Yes”. As soon as the couple returned to South Carolina they started visiting venues. Shivali fell in love with the Greenville Marriott and had the most beautiful wedding and reception on November 19, 2016.

Their Story -Scott and I met on Lake Bowen back in Junior High. After High School, Scott had a boat and I lived on the lake. Scott came by the house while I was swimming with some friends and I asked him to teach me to wakeboard and it all started there. Since then, we have loved the lake so much; we are building our dream home on Lake Bowen. Our ceremony was set for September 2015, however, my grandmother became ill and the outlook was not good. We called all of our vendors and explained the situation. Everyone could not have been more helpful and we set the date for June 27, 2015. My grandmother was able to be a part of our wedding, but unfortunately lost her battle with cancer of September 16 of 2015. Unique aspects of the wedding- It was planned in 5 weeks. The Father/Daughter dance was unique because my Dad recorded “Butterfly Kisses” for our song. He used to sing this to me when I was a baby. My husband built the arch we placed on the stairs in the outdoor gardens from pallets and my Mom placed all the decorations on it. For our unity, we got a family Bible from my grandmother and each set of parents signed it around a verse that they committed to pray over us and our marriage. Scott and I also picked a verse to sign as our commitment to pray for one another. Our parents surprised us at the end of our wedding video; they all had recorded something for us to watch that told us how proud they were and giving their best wishes and prayers. Instead of signing a guest book, we had our guests sign a wooden chair we got from Unclaimed Furniture (our family business) and it’s now something we get to see every day and not something we just threw in the attic.
