Where did you get married?

We wanted an all-in-one venue with a beautiful backdrop where we could hold our ceremony, take our photos and have our reception. I chose Samares Manor because we absolutely loved the gorgeous botanical gardens and Japanese pergola. It’s such a charming and magical place. It’s close to home and they allowed our dog to come and join us for the ceremony and a bit of the reception. It was perfect!

Reception

Marquee Solutions created the most beautiful marquee for our reception on the grass opposite the Manor House. They were incredible from the beginning. From our initial consultation to setting up on the day, bringing every aspect of our vision to life! The Good Stone provided our catering and the food was just amazing. They hosted a wood-fired feast which consisted of rustic canapés, a three course meal and pizza in the evening. To finish off we enjoyed the most beautiful cake by Samantha Wedding Cake Design. Samantha is truly an artist. Not only are her cakes absolutely delicious, they are luxurious, stylish and elegant. Our cake table itself was such a striking feature and it really wowed our guests. All of our suppliers worked fantastically together to make everything perfect.

Snaps

Daisy Barnard was our photographer and she did not disappoint! We chose her because we loved her style of photography - natural, romantic and timeless - and our photos were just that! She was fantastic on the day, almost invisible so we didn’t even notice she was there most of the time taking amazing natural shots behind the scenes of those real and raw moments. It was so emotional looking back through our gallery for the first time and reliving our special day. Our photos will forever be treasured.

The dress

I got my dress from Anna Trigg and it was the first dress I saw in the shop! I tried a few more and even went to another bridal store to see if I could find anything to top it, but my heart knew - it was the one! It’s true what they say, when you know, you know! Anna is so talented and incredible at what she does. At my request she added more embellishment to the dress and adjusted it to my shape and it fit like a glove. I was so nervous about wedding dress shopping because I suffer from scoliosis of the

spine and I’m very self conscious about my back. But my dress was so flattering and Anna even made me a bespoke floor length veil to match, it was perfection.

Blooms

Claire at Eden by Claire did our flowers and she absolutely blew us away! Claire is so experienced and knows exactly how to turn a bare marquee from a blank canvas to a piece of art! From our initial meetings, Claire and I bounced off each other so well. I explained to her my ideas and she made further suggestions to suit and the end result was magic! Claire made the whole process so easy and enjoyable. Walking into the marquee on the day and seeing the beautiful arrangements she had created was such a great feeling. She really bought our vision to life.

Favourite personal touches on the day…

We may be a bit biased but our favourite personal touches on the day was our signage and stationery, which was made by us through our own company Treasure Box Studio. We created our welcome sign, mirrored table plan, table numbers, other table signage, gifts and cards box and place settings. We went with frosted and gold mirror acrylic for our signs and it was the perfect finishing touch to an already stunning marquee, so timeless and classy. The signs tied everything together so well and we had so many compliments from our wedding guests.

Best bit?

Our wedding day was originally supposed to happen in 2020 but it was postponed twice due to covid. Since then we welcomed our son Luca into the world and having him at our wedding was so special. It was a really emotional day. Watching Flávio tear up as we walked down the aisle was an unforgettable moment. We finally said “I do” and got to share our day with our beautiful baby boy and our dog Simba. The weather was glorious and everybody was so happy. We’re so thankful to all of our suppliers for making the day go as beautifully as it did.

Any tips / recommendations for Jersey Brides?

It’s never too early to start planning. If you want to enjoy the build up to the wedding which is just as great as the actual day itself, don’t leave any aspect of your wedding to the last minute. Plan early and then sit back and enjoy the wedding planning process.

Tell us about your reception.

We both wanted a relaxed, outdoor, nature-inspired feel to the wedding, we loved the idea of having the ceremony and reception all in one place and space for the guests to enjoy the grounds. We had a dream team of suppliers! Highly

recommend all of them; we worked with the amazing Marquee Solutions to create a custom marquee to fit our guests and match our rustic theme, they even helped us last minute to put up another tent outside the main marquee in case there was rain (luckily no rain!)

Nelson Terris was our celebrant and DJ! We were so relieved to have the local legend be such an incremental part of the day, we really appreciated his laid back but very professional style, he kept us all on time and made us laugh along the way. We shared a Spotify playlist with him so he knew exactly which songs to play (& not

Jersey Kitchen provided BBQ sharing boards for the main meal which worked really well, allowing everyone to eat as much or as little as they wanted, the staff were brilliant. Timings were perfect and the food was top quality and delicious. Big shout out to Tony and the team! We asked Beau Waugh to provide the acoustic guitar music for the ceremony and for the cocktail hour, we really loved his old-soul classics and he is a lovely guy.

Who did your photos?

Sophie Darwin was absolutely amazing, she and her husband Dean captured all the key moments throughout the day, Sophie felt more like a guest and ensured she took all the photos we wanted. We really love Sophie’s relaxed, natural and candid style, and she knows all the best spots in Samarès!

And the flowers?

We worked with the very talented Rachel Vibert. I shared a mood board with her about the direction I was looking for and

gave her creative license with the flowers and foliage. We collected lots of old bottles for a more personal touch on the tables and she filled and arranged them I really loved the look, it was simple but really effective. My mum made our confetti from scrap eucalyptus leaves using a heart hole punch - we loved it so much.

What was the best bit?

We loved the informal feel, it felt more like a big party with all our friends and family than a formal event. Fantastic food & drinks + stunning location + good tunes + the best suppliers = the perfect wedding.

Any tips or recommendations? Lots of tips! I had trials with my Make Up Artist, Kate Morrison, and Hair Stylist, Sophie-Lea Kelly, to make sure we were prepped and happy for the wedding morning. They were both incredibly talented and professional. We had a meet-up a couple days before the wedding with all the guests to get to know each other, have a drink together and

familiarise themselves before the wedding - which we really think brought a relaxed vibe to the day. Getting ready I was so anxious, my amazing Make Up Artist gave me a piece of gum to concentrate on chewing instead of stressing (just remember to take it out before walking down the aisle!) Always plan for a rainy day and then you won’t be caught out - even if it costs a little more - it’s worth the assurance your guests will be dry! Give your bridesmaids a job - I gave my girls a disposable camera each to capture as many group shots of our guests, which worked really well. We created a Google Photos album and asked all the guests to upload their pics to it so we could easily access and share after the wedding. Things will change on the day, but you can’t control everything so don’t worry and keep smiling, dancing and make the most of every moment.

Where did you get married?

We legally married on 22nd August 2020 at the L’Horizon Hotel, during a very small, intimate (8 of us including the celebrant!) ceremony in keeping with covid restrictions in place at the time. We knew we always wanted to celebrate our marriage with all of our friends and family with us so after three postponements, we finally had our bigger wedding celebration on 27th August 2022 in the grounds of St. George’s School (La Hague Manor). We were also fortunate enough to have a baby in May so the big celebration was all the more special.

Snaps

We wanted Andy Le Gresley to photograph our wedding as in our opinion, he is the best around. So much of what made our day perfect was down to him. Andy captured the most treasured moments from our day, including a picture of Dom and I with our little boy smiling up at us and our guests questionable dance moves! Andy’s presence, guidance and reassurance throughout the day went above and beyond.

Blooms

The incredible Claire (Eden by Claire) did our flowers and she managed to surpass every expectation. Claire created the most gorgeous arrangements we’ve ever seen, walking into the marquee (by the brilliant team at Marquee Solutions) for the first time was literally breathtaking. She made everything so effortless for us, even helping Dom to rearrange the tables to ensure everything was just perfect. She has an incredible talent and is gorgeous inside and out!

Favourite personal touch?

Sadly, both my Father and Dom’s Father passed away many years ago so it was difficult not having them there, but my bridesmaid stepped up and delivered the most incredible speech in place of the traditional ‘Father of the Bride’ speech. This meant the world to me and as she’s a bit of a comedian, she had us all laughing (and crying!) from start to finish.

Any tips / recommendations?

Don’t plan a wedding with a 3-month old!

Where did you get married? We were married at Le Ferriere a beautiful old Jersey property. The grounds are perfect to accommodate one of the large marquees from the great team at Marquee Solutions. Plus there was space for outdoor seating and a fire pit which created mood and atmosphere in the evening. Our caterer was Jersey Kitchen who were absolutely fabulous, nothing was too much trouble. Who took your photos? Danny Richardson came recommended by word of mouth, which is always a good sign. He was very patient on the day and went along with our own ideas such as one of our favourite photos of my veil blowing in the wind. Where did you find your dress? I purchased my dress from Ellis. Hannah was brilliant, she made me feel comfortable straight away, she asked about our plans to ensure she could suggest options in keeping with the style of our wedding. She took time to listen and made suggestions without being over persuasive. It was a lovely day spent having fun trying different dresses, veils and shoes.

What about your blooms? My flowers were from Wild Thyme. I wanted the flowers to reflect a summer garden with a pastel theme. They achieved this perfectly using seasonal flowers that looked as though they were freshly picked that day. They created a beautiful flower arch for the backdrop of our ceremony which framed our photos perfectly. Where did you get your cake? Our beautiful cake was created by Flour patisserie and it was amazing! Favourite personal touches? The music - La Ronde brass concert band turned up as a surprise to play ‘all you need is love’, and my very special friend Alice Veitch who sang with them, but who had learned the words to ‘Our Song’ for our first dance and she sang it to us and our guests in the evening with the accompaniment of her band, Little Black Dress. My hand henna - as a celebration of my father’s heritage and to share our culture with friends and family we had an Indian Mehndi ceremony held at Kismet on the Thursday before the wedding. We all dressed in sari’s

and we had henna done, we also had Indian music and dancing too! I wore the same sari that my mum wore to her engagement party. The background of henna is that you include the initial of your partner on one hand and your own initial in the other for them to find. It also symbolises positive spirits and good luck for the marriage. Any tips or recommendations? I enjoyed getting creative and made the pallet board photos, order of the day and welcome sign myself. The devil is in the detail and it’s the special little touches that make a difference but if something doesn’t go to plan don’t let it ruin your day, you will look back and laugh at it in years to come.

Telling your true wedding story - that is what wedding photojournalism is really about - by discreetly capturing all of the genuine, heartfelt and beautiful moments that you want to hold onto forever. Think of it as an undirected and unposed visual narrative of your day. A narrative that is told through beautiful, authentic imagery that should transport you straight back in time, to relive those incredible moments all over again. I love capturing weddings in this style, it has been the most rewarding work that I have ever done and I’ve now shot hundreds of weddings throughout Jersey, UK and Europe. Authenticity is key - I prefer not to encourage a photo list, nor work to a template - I take a natural and personal approach to capture the visual story of your whole day. From the intimate and small details whilst getting ready; holding back the emotion as you walk down the aisle before you

catch each other’s eyes for the first time, or the behind the scenes kiss, as the reception and party draws to a close. But are there ever times during the day when I think your photographer should give a bit of direction? The honest answer to that is yes, but only in very limited circumstances. Like after the ceremony if you want to disappear from the crowd for some romantic portraits together, but you feel awkward in front of the camera - I will just encourage you to be yourselves and let your personalities shine through, as it can make a massive difference to the end result. But other than the bridal portraits and a few family group shots, I think it’s so important to just let the day flow. I like to stay close to the action, but discreetly and unobtrusively, ready to capture every part of your beautiful day.

Wedding jewellery How incredible would these look on your wedding day? Aurum’s Brigitte Adolph Lace Jewellery range is created by Brigitte in Germany. She studied at the very same goldsmithing school that Julie Blampied attended in Pforzheim, in the Black Forest. Her delicately beautiful creations appear at first glance to be made from lace fabric but closer inspection reveals finely detailed work in silver. The patterns are inspired by the lace from her own wedding dress and some of the pieces are embellished with softly romantic pearl accents. Wildflowers are a big trend this year and also I expect to see more use of wispy grasses, clematis, daisies, and touches of cornflower blue. Whatever your theme, your florist will work with you to develop and advise you on everything from colours that work together, to flowers that are in season. Plan a surprise, present or note for your partner for when they are getting ready without you on the morning of your wedding. Meet with your hairdresser and make up artist for a consultation. Book manicure, pedicure and spa treatment to relax. Break in your shoes. Buy a guest book.

Give final guest count to reception venue and caterer. Start packing for your honeymoon. Make sure everything fits! Send you wedding announcement to the JEP. Write any cheques required for the wedding day. Arrange for wedding gifts to be transported to your home.

As Frankie says... RELAX. Have fun with your friends and family who have come over early. Start getting snap happy. Ensure your overnight bag is packed and delivered to your hotel. Speak to your attendants - check everyone knows what they need to do and when.

After the wedding Make a gift list and send out your thank you notes. Make sure everything is sorted out for your name change. Send wedding cake to anyone who couldn’t make the wedding.
