Cassandra & Brent

On a steamy summer day in August 2013, we met at a bar in Richmond, Virginia. We knew right from the start that we had something special and were inseparable from that day forward. After an adventurous seven years together living in three different states and one year doing van-life, we knew we could make it through anything. We moved to Asheville, North Carolina in September 2020 to put down roots in a place that aligned with our values. We got married on our eight-year anniversary on September 5, 2021 surrounded by our families at Earthshine Lodge in Brevard, NC. We never wanted a big wedding and decided to only have our immediate family along with our dearest friend (who was our officiant) be a part of a weekend-long celebration where we shared our lifestyle in the mountains with them. It was symbolic, intimate, simple and exactly what we wanted it to be. We feel grateful we put aside all societal pressures to create a celebration that was true to us. We encourage others to follow their own hearts and craft exactly what they want and not what other people want for them.

Noemi & Javi

Javi and I met at church in 2012. Two strangers became the best of friends and little did we know we would be in each other's lives forever in the future. It goes to show God's timing is truly perfect and his plans are even better.

A few years later, when our paths decided to become one, Javi asked me to be his girlfriend in San Diego, California. We later got engaged at Bok Tower Gardens in Orlando, Florida! I should mention he decided to propose during a pandemic!

Coming from two different origins, cultures and states, we decided to share our special day with some of our closest friends and family. Nestled within the mountains, amidst the most breathtaking views, we found our dream wedding venue at Winter Wood Farm in Sparta, North Carolina. It not only reflected our love for adventure, but it also brought a peaceful and joyful environment for our guests to enjoy such a special day with us.

After a whole year and months of planning for the most magical day, we tied the knot. We finally ended the wedding festivities by traveling to Maui and Honolulu, Hawaii for our honeymoon. To say that we love to travel is an understatement!

From the planning to the execution of events, we are so beyond grateful for our team of vendors who went above and beyond to make our special day even more enjoyable than we could’ve imagined.

in loving memory of Samantha

In memory of Samantha (Sam) Miller Hutchinson, who tragically lost her life on her wedding day after departing her reception, when the low-speed golf cart they were riding in was struck by an alleged drunk driver. The groom and two other family members were seriously injured.

Sam loved living in Charleston on James Island by the beach and going there for sunrises and sunsets. She loved the beach so much that she chose an oceanfront Folly wedding venue. Sam spent many months planning her dream beach wedding, down to every little detail, and it was perfect. We wish she could have seen these photos and how magical the day was. The happiness that day and the love this couple shared was apparent to everyone.

Sam had a beautiful heart, she loved life and lived every moment to the fullest. She had a lifetime of plans ahead of her with her husband. She lit up everywhere she entered. Sam's light was so great, that even after she is gone, her light remains. Sam was the type of person who, after you met her, you were forever changed for the better. In Sam's memory, please use this tragedy as a reminder to take accountability as it relates to impaired or dangerous driving.

Daijah & Deionyos their story:

My husband was my first ever date, my high school sweetheart, my first real kiss, and my one true love. We were each other’s high school prom date and ever since then, we've been inseparable. We were in a long distance relationship for ten years, which involved me being off in medical school for a number of years and him being deployed to Afghanistan for some time.

We were actually supposed to get married two years earlier, but due to COVID we couldn't, since he was in North Carolina and I was living in Florida. We didn't even see each other for around six months. Our first wedding date was canceled the weekend before the event! We scheduled two other dates which were both canceled by the venues. When our day finally came near, the venue caught on fire. Because of all of that, we had to make our wedding day just as special as our relationship… and man, was our day special!

The day was filled with love and magic from the flowers and bouquets, to the wonderful music and my two beautiful princess dresses. Thanks to our wonderful vendors and our awesome family and friends that stood to witness our lasting connection, the day couldn't have been more perfect!

Mollee & Matthew

Matt and I met while we were both attending Western Carolina University. He is two years younger than me. We actually started officially dating two weeks before I graduated in 2016. I got a job teaching and Matt also played baseball, so our relationship was pretty “long distance.”. When Matt graduated he was drafted by the Oakland A’s, and that added even more distance to our relationship. When COVID hit in 2020,his baseball career ended and he moved back to North Carolina. We got engaged on December 11, 2021 and we immediately started planning our wedding. Matt is from Raleigh, and I lived in Rutherford County so we started looking at venues in my area. I had no idea how much went into planning a wedding. My biggest concern was that I wanted everyone to have fun and dance. I really didn’t care about the decorations, flowers or food, but it all turned out great. The reception was so much fun, and all of our vendors were amazing. My aunt, Cheryl Walker was my wedding planner. She did so much to help me. She basically did everything to make our day so special.. It was a day I will never, ever forget!

The Never Ending Flower Farm :

A “Bride to Be’s” Must Stop Destination

Peppered with more than thirty varieties of flowers, the gently rolling landscape of the Never Ending Flower Farm provides an explosion of bold and beautiful colors and creative floral designs that have escalated this family run farm to the top of every future bride’s “must visit” list.

Formally established in 2015 in the Barnardsville community (20 miles north of Asheville), Loretta and Kurt Ball remain committed to being good stewards of family land that once grew large vegetable gardens, with produce sold in the local community. Today, much of their extended family contributes to the flower farm’s success.

Loretta serves as lead “flower farmer” (her preferred title), while Kurt does double duty working a full-time job off the land and part-time evening role as lead mechanic, engineer, etc. Their teenage sons (Quinn and Ledger), Loretta’s mom (Lorrie), and Kurt’s parents (Dale and Diana) assist with everything from lending an extra tractor for field prep to pulling weeds, planting bulbs, organizing vases, and fixing equipment as needed. It’s safe to say that a “family and faith first” mindset established the original foundation of success for this rapidly expanding farm.

From snapdragons, dahlias, zinnias, and sunflowers to cosmos, chocolate lace, and Mexican bush sage, the diversity of color, shape, and scent evidenced by the farm’s blooms mirror the unique personalities of the customers who regularly visit. The Never Ending Flower Farm is known in western North Carolina as a “You Pick” farm, open seven days a week in the summer for visitors to select, in a carefree manner, their “just right” floral explosion for the coffee or dining table. And that same carefree experience shapes the nature and impact of the farm’s wedding services.

Loretta and her team offer an impressive “a-la-carte” floral design service with an emphasis on whimsical and asymmetrical floral designs that dodge the traditional and trendy for all that is personal, poignant, and pretty. And it is in this bridal design space where Lila, Loretta’s right hand helper, shines. Lila’s job title is too long to fit on a business card, as it includes everything from “chief resin artist” and office assistant to floral designer and bridal consultant. But together, Lila and Loretta’s creative and natural approach to floral design makes each bride feel special, as they listen to their ideas and consider the colors and shapes of the flowers they pick while at the farm. They rapidly establish a trusting working relationship with their brides, asking each bride to allow them to create fresh, romantic designs that mirror the couple’s personality and passions. These designs can be seen in bouquets, center pieces and floral sprays for arbors, and

there’s no end to the possibilities for flowering photography sessions among the fields.

The flower farm’s website (www. theneverendingflowerfarm.com) includes a full description of the types of services offered in 2023 and 2024. This includes the option to host a small wedding shower or wedding (fewer than thirty persons) on site. The farm frequently hosts photographers who have been contracted by future grooms to capture surprise engagements or by brides who wish to take formal bridal photos among the colorful blooms of spring, summer, and fall. Costs and options for bringing a photographer on site, for future “full service” wedding services, or for showers or shed rentals are detailed on the website, with bookings available from mid-May through midOctober each year. Loretta and team ask future clients to start their communication process by first exploring the website and completing the inquiry forms. This provides a solid foundation upon which each couple’s needs can be met.

Loretta’s unique floral designs require no candles or cut-outs, as the focus is fully on the simple beauty of the naturally grown flower. As a child of the 80s, Loretta grew up outdoors, spending summer months in the garden planting and harvesting the fruits of their labor. From following behind her grandfather’s tractor, picking up over-sized potatoes, to riding her bike across the Flat Creek and Jupiter hills, Loretta learned how to respect and cultivate her food, fruit, flowers, and faith. Coupled with her teenage experience working in a local nursery and learning everything there was to know about how to care for

plants, with explicit lessons in sowing seeds, propagating, pruning, fertilizing, and avoiding the danger of over water new plants, Loretta developed a passion for working with her hands to bring the natural beauty of the earth to fruition. Little did she realize that a teenage passion would eventually turn into a fulltime career.

From supper clubs to self-pick fields, The Never Ending Flower Farm offers a little something of everything for the bored and the busy, the bridal, and the beauty seekers. One cannot help but leave this farm knowing

the flowers and friendships established among the fields are grounded in both dirt and duty; with the Ball family’s commitment to honoring and cultivating the land they call “home” and to respecting the clients they now call “friends.”

Next time you’re in the area, stop in and smell the flowers.

Michaela & Christian

Christian and I met on Tinder, ironically. Since he was also attending Western Carolina University at the time, we started talking and made lunch plans on campus. After meeting him in person, it was awkward at first, but once we began to get to know one another, the lunch date turned into a dinner date, and the rest is history!

Our wedding day, September 10th, 2022, was the best day of my life. It was raining that day, which meant that the ground was too wet to have the ceremony outside, but luckily we made it work. The girls got ready at Michaela's Airbnb and the groomsmen got ready in their respective houses. As we were leaving our Airbnb, our amazing photographers helped a FedEx truck out of a ditch. Otherwise, we would have been late! I also forgot my vows at the Airbnb along with our marriage certificate, so we had to prepare for alternatives!

Designer Sareh Nouri

When Sareh Nouri was young, she would have loved it if you had told her that she would one day grow up to design her own bridal collection, because she loved wedding dresses so much. In fact, at her nuptials in 2009, her father joked in his speech about her ongoing obsession with wedding gowns. So perhaps it is fate that the search for her own dress is what really set her down the path to create her own line. As her wedding day approached, Sareh grew ever more frustrated, as she couldn’t find “the one” — a dress that was at once sophisticated and traditional, ethereal and elegant. In desperation, she decided to design her own gown.

Fortunately Sareh, a native of Iran and a graduate of George Mason University with a degree in graphic design, had the background to support such a daring gamble. Sareh understood how to work with patterns and layouts based on her extremely successful work in utilizing traditional Persian art. Her work on numerous commercial and nonprofit media ads has been profiled in a number of magazines and books. With this accomplished background Sareh wasn’t just able to conjure up a nice dress, she was able to create the dress of her dreams.

Shortly thereafter the Sareh Nouri line began to take form following her stints working with a high-end bridal salon, modeling bridal gowns, collaborating with couture dressmakers and consulting one-on-one with brides-to-be. It is that experience which has laid the foundation for the Sareh Nouri line. Sensitivities towards shopping for her own gown as well as working with brides-to-be fuel the success of Sareh’s designs — those designs that are not only romantic and feminine but timeless and sophisticated as well. Incorporating the finest of imported French lace and Italian silk, Sareh works closely with her team of highly trained dressmakers and patternmakers on these couture creations. Each design is a handmade production fusing the idea of traditional silhouettes with ethereal whimsical details so light and elegant that they are ideal for today’s modern bride.

Today, the Sareh Nouri collection of gowns and sashes can be found in bridal boutiques around the globe. They have been featured on top TV shows, such as TLC’s Brides of Beverly Hills, and the ‘Cake Smash’ episode of Cake Boss which aired in June of 2013. They have also been seen on E! News with Giuliana Rancic. Her gowns have been worn by key influencers such as former “American Idol” Diana DeGarmo and Miss America Caressa Cameron. Sarah's designs have also been featured in popular magazines and top bridal publications including People Magazine, US Weekly Magazine, Grace Ormonde Wedding Style, Washingtonian Magazine, Weddings Unveiled, and Brides Magazine.

“I believe finding a wedding dress is like finding a true friend,” says Nouri. “You should be able to trust it, you should never regret it, and whenever you see it... it should always make you smile.”

Lea & Kevin

Kevin is originally from Texas, and I [Lea] am from Connecticut. As fate would have it, we attended graduate school in the same small Pennsylvania town, which is where we met. We’ve moved a couple times in the past seven years but have created a beautiful life in North Carolina. We both envisioned a wedding day surrounded by family and friends. Because we come from two different parts of the country, we feared there was no perfect location to be married. We finally settled on planning a wedding close to home in Charlotte, NC. Our wedding guests traveled from eleven states and three countries to celebrate our love, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

The morning getting ready with my mother and best friends was calm and so relaxing. My brother officiated a light-hearted personalized wedding ceremony. Louie, our tri-pawed rescue dog, made a special walk down the aisle. It was a beautiful sunny March day with trees and flowers newly blooming. I cherish the first look moment with my husband and all the special moments we were able to create. We wrote our own vows and speaking those vows to one another with our friends and family in attendance made us feel deeply connected. It was truly a magical day of love, laughter, dancing, and happiness. When we reflect on our wedding day, we can’t keep from smiling.

We are eternally grateful to our amazing team of vendors for executing our vision and supporting us throughout the planning process.

Kelsey & Bryce

I met Bryce on a blind date. A mutual friend, who now takes credit for the success of the relationship, connected us. Two short years later, we found ourselves getting married. And to the people who knew us best, it was no surprise. We were made for each other. We share values of faith, family, and friendship. We created our wedding to be a representation of our values and had an absolute blast! Leading up to the wedding, we spent the weekend with our bridal party and family members. I spent time with the girls having brunch, and Bryce went golfing with his groomsmen. Then we all came together for the rehearsal and dinner, where they surprised us with the most heartfelt speeches. We left on the sweetest note before our big day. For our wedding day, we chose vendors that we knew personally, and I got to work side by side with some of my dearest friends to create our dream day. We added some new trends by having a first look with my bridesmaids, brother and stepdad, and having a first prayer with our parents. We also kept the ceremony traditional by seeing each other for the first time at the aisle, and it was so special to us. Being surrounded by people we love the most the whole day is a feeling we will never forget. We wish we could relive this day every day!

Pamela Gracey of CoulourDeCanvas Helps You Discover the Color and Style of Your Wedding

A bridal color palette sets the tone for your wedding. Here are tips on incorporating your wedding palette colors throughout your bridal party:

Planning a wedding can be an exciting experience, and it is equally important to start off on the right foot and ensure that you take the proper steps to make your dream day a reality. Often we start by selecting the venue, deciding on the colors for our wedding palette, and choosing a DJ or live music, food, photographer, etc. Typically, a wedding color palette is the basis for setting the tone of your wedding party attire, flowers, favors, decor, accessories, etc. Using colors consistently helps to bring your wedding into focus and creates unity, continuity, and character throughout the wedding party. Once you've chosen your wedding dress and color palette, it's time to move on to the bridal party.

You want to create a sense of continuity throughout your bridal party. The first step is the bridesmaids’ attire. While choosing bridesmaids' dresses, you look at the color, style, design, and budget. Will all the bridesmaids wear the same dress or the same colors, but styles that fit their style and characteristics more appropriately? Then, accessorize the bridesmaids by incorporating your color palette using flowers, hair accessories, and jewelry. Let's touch on bridesmaid jewelry. In the past, folks chose single-tone jewelry, often given as a gift to the wedding party. What if you could customize unique one-of-a-kind earrings, necklaces, and hair pieces for your bridesmaids that incorporate your wedding palette for about the same price? Pamela Gracey, ColourDeCanvas, offers custom hand-painted bridesmaid accessory packages that combine the bridal color palette throughout the designs.

Next, we look at the groomsmen. While choosing the groomsmen tuxedos, it is essential to consider color palette, style, jacket length, design, and budget. Will the tux match the dresses, or will you pull in the color palette using the tie, handkerchief, and cummerbund? Then, we look at other areas to create and customize the look. Pamela Gracey, ColourDeCanvas offers custom, unique one-of-a-kind hand-painted cufflinks incorporating your color palette for your groomsmen.

What is involved in customizing your bridal party accessories? The first step is scheduling an initial meeting with Pamela via Zoom or in-person to discuss

your vision for your special day. Pamela will discuss the color palette and your bridal party, including how many people your bridal party will have. If your bridesmaid and groomsmen attire is final, you will need photos. At the initial meeting, we will discuss your wedding plan, location, color palette, budget, and how we will incorporate your desired colors to bring balance to your bridal party.

Please ensure that the colors, styles, necklines, and lengths are clear for the bridesmaid photographs. Have a photo of each of the bridesmaids in their dress. If you do not have a picture of each bridesmaid, you will need to know if they have short, medium, or long hair to determine if you will incorporate hair pieces into your design. For the jewelry, looking at the neckline, you can decide whether you want a short choker length, a mid-length falling just above the neckline, or a long pendant that will fall just below the neckline.

The next step is to finalize your color palette – Pamela incorporates the colors in your wedding palette, a metallic tone, and black and white paint to create one-of-a-kind designs. Next is the actual jewelry design — you can choose the shape of the glass cabochon – Heart, Oval, Round, Square, or Teardrop. Then, we discuss if you want silver or gold tones and your preference of metals for the necklace, bails, and fixings. For the earring style, do you want a simple drop earring with hand-painted cabochon, or do you want to add other beads or designs to make a more intricate earring? Lastly, we discuss the necklace design. Again, it can be a simple pendant drop on a silver or goldtone necklace. Alternatively, we can create a more intricate necklace design incorporating additional beads, multiple cabochons, etc.

For the hair pieces, we discuss the color palette, flowers, and designs that will accent your bridesmaids. You can choose between simple barrette styles with cabochons, hair combs with flowers and accents, or a clip with cabochons, flowers, and accents. Once we finalize your vision for your design, Pamela will create your designs, and you will be able to view and approve them before delivery.

All of these steps, when combined, will create a cohesive, thoughtful and unique feel throughout your special day. These one-of-a-kind touches are what truly reflect the look of your event and make it feel special and as singular as your love.

42 North Carolina Bridal Magazine Summer 2023

For the groomsman photograph, please ensure the photo includes the whole attire, the suit or tux, shirt colors, tie colors, handkerchief, cummerbund, etc. Pamela will incorporate the color tones from the bridesmaid jewelry for the cufflinks to ensure your color palette flows throughout the bridal party. You will choose between a square or round cufflink in a silver or gold-tone bezel.

Adding custom accessories will help to bring your bridal party into balance, and often they become a fantastic gift for those in your party. Each piece of jewelry is handpainted, creating a one-of-a-kind design that incorporates your color palette into each piece of jewelry. You can reach Pamela Gracey at colourdecanvas@gmail.com to learn more about creating your custom bridal packages.

Kori & Connor

Our Summer Solstice wedding was truly a midsummer night’s dream! Choosing to have the best day of our lives on the longest day of the year meant adding personal touches and contemporary flair to ancient solstice traditions. To create an organic and elegant celebration of light and love, we incorporated motifs of circles and flame, with semi-circular ceremony seating, a reception-adjacent fire pit, and many recycled glass candle vessels. Natural elements included handcrafted and personalized wildflower seed packets for our guests to plant at home, moss and succulents tucked in among the florals, and the incomparably lush landscaping at our breathtaking venue.

We wanted our reception to be a great party (and it was!), but we didn’t want to overshadow the reason for the occasion. Special moments and symbolic nods focused on our connection to each other and our guests. We wrote and exchanged our personal vows alone during our first look, then spent the remaining time before the ceremony together. For our handfasting, we fashioned a cord made of spare fabric and details from the bride’s and bridesmaids’ gowns intertwined with material from both our mothers’ wedding gowns and veils. June 21st, 2022 was truly a celebration of not only the love we share, but of the love we have for our friends and family and for our Earth.

“Lucas and I ironically met at a wedding. He was the DJ, and I was in medical school. Our connection was instant, and since then, we've been inseparable. We wanted our wedding to reflect our love for adventure and freedom while ensuring our guests had a great time.

Our vision was to create an adult summer camp experience for everyone, and the venue perfectly matched that. With a creek, bonfire pits, 10 airstreams for the bridal party, and a charming treehouse, it had everything we wanted. The weekend began with "treehouse toasts" for family and the bridal party, followed by a welcome party by the creek with a vintage cocktail truck and pizza food truck.

The wedding day itself was like a dream. Our amazing photographer surprised me with a first look in a nearby wildflower field, where the flowers perfectly matched my bouquet. We danced through the field, cheered on by passing cars and surrounded by butterflies and honeybees (and a few other insect guests caught in the tulle of my dress).

To sum up the day in two words: overwhelming JOY. Notable highlights included a serene meditation to start the ceremony, a fun cocktail hour with axe throwing and an airstream bar, and an unforgettable reception ending with a lively silent disco that got everyone involved. With the support of our loved ones, talented vendors, a beautiful venue, and our deep love for each other, it easily became the best day of our lives!”

Walk with me…

What if you lost your best friend only weeks before they were supposed to be standing by your side as you said “I do”? Or what if, while planning your big day, your mom or dad is called home to be with Jesus? What if?

How can you move on while you’re mourning the loss of the most important person of your life and the world around you is moving forward? I know better than anyone what you must be feeling because in the past three years, I lost both my parents only fifteen months apart. It doesn't get easier, but I promise you that you will get stronger, one day at a time.

Whether you lost your nanna years ago, or a friend recently, they would want you to carry on. So live for them! Don’t stop planning; instead find ways to honor them without mourning them as if it was their funeral all over again.

As a wedding planner, I have experienced severe loss with couples and even with parents of the couples who lost their loved ones throughout the planning process. I would love to share with you a few stories and ways we honored and remembered those not presently with us.

First, if the sight of a photo or item triggers that good “ugly” cry, you may want to rethink how you present their memory. Do you list them on your program, save them a seat on the front row with their favorite flower or their hat/ apron? Maybe you fill a table or ladder full of memories and light a candle for those not here today. I’ve had a groom play his mother’s favorite song after the cake cutting to feel her presence. Some knew exactly who’s song it was and others quickly learned as the room filled with stories and memories of her. There are so many ways you can feel that person’s presence without taking away from your special day.

Being a bride and not having your sweet momma there to go try on dresses, or assist you, is going to be difficult. Lean on your mother-in-law when you can. Ask your friends to tag along, and remember to take time to process everything during and after your planning sessions. Some items and tasks will be triggers that may cause you to break down and cry. Remember, it’s okay to take a moment for yourself. Talk with your significant other about your concerns and pains. Then dig into ways you can honor and celebrate with them without mourning them.

One of my weddings had lost two of their wedding party members recently during the planning process. They added sunflowers in the bride’s bouquet to honor one of them and placed a beautiful lantern filled with flowers where the best man should have been standing. The honor of walking “him” down and setting it out before the wedding is still a memory I’ll carry with me forever.

In a recent Hallmark movie I watched, the groom uses his father’s prayer shawl to bless the Chuppah. I’ve had brides take a piece of their grandpa’s blue work shirt and have it sewn into the under-portion of their dress in the shape of a heart as their “something blue.” One of my grooms once had a piece of a family member’s shirt sewn behind his tie to know they were present with them all day. I’ve also had couples wear their grandparents’ or parents’ wedding rings to honor them.

Having recently lost my dad last year, my heart breaks when I see and hear a bride break down when she realizes her dad won’t be there to walk her down the aisle to give her away.

However, in all my years, I’ve never been so emotional until recently when a groom came up to me just minutes before they were about to walk down the aisle. He said, “I’ve got a crazy weird disturbing request.” My reply was, “Okay, I’m game; I’m always up for a challenge.” The groom told me about how the bride’s father passed away three years ago and that she was sad that there wasn’t anyone there to walk her down the aisle. Then he placed his hand over mine and said, “Right before she walks down the aisle, please give her this and tell her her dad is walking her every step

Bridal

of the way.” When I opened my hand, there was a small vial with her daddy’s ashes. I lost it. Talk about an incredible husband to be knowing exactly what she needed in that very moment. That moment is one of the most amazing and beautiful memories I’ll never forget. He walked her every step of the way.

At the end of the day, remember your loved ones in your own special way. Know that they would rather you be present, and want you to be happy on this glorious day. Truthfully known, they actually have the best seat in the house. They are shining down on you, smiling, and couldn’t be prouder of the amazing person you’ve become as you grow stronger with your soon-to-be husband or wife. And when you walk back up that aisle to your “happily ever after,” remember to live every day to the fullest! Don’t put off that date night with one another or postpone those travel plans. Instead plan to do everything in honor of those that are no longer present with us.

Peace be with you my friend, Forever Daddy’s Little Girl, GOSH I’m miss her,

Holly & Blake

On the morning of July 20th, the fog began to rise from the deserted streets of Ghost Town. The once prominent mountain theme park that was abandoned for almost a decade, now living up to its name, was brought back to life for one last time to bring a group of family and friends together to join a very special couple in wedded bliss.

The Frontier Church at the end of Main Street transformed into the perfect wedding chapel for the special day of Blake and Holly Ellege, complete with cascades of white, yellow and blue wildflowers adorning the church. As the church bell rang out at High Noon, Holly began to walk down Main Street to the Frontier Church, as Blake patiently awaits at the altar.

Officiating this special day is the legend of Ghost Town in the Sky: The Apache Kid. Robert Bradley (aka The Apache Kid), a close friend of the bride and groom, began working at Ghost Town as a stunt man and performer at the age of fourteen and continued to work there until the day it closed.

Marshall Tim guarded the chapel door with his double barrel shotgun as Holly walked down the aisle and the ceremony began. The couple exchanged their vows and solidified their bond with a kiss as the chapel erupted with applause and cheers.

The happy couple walked off into the sunset to a ‘Cowboy Salute’- the perfect ending to a ‘Wild West Wedding’ at Ghost Town in The Sky.

Rosa & Andrew

It was November 2019 when Andrew and I first met at a church event that I was attending with my friend. I certainly was not expecting to meet anyone that evening, especially since it was a church I did not attend. Little did I know, my friend had invited Andrew (who is her cousin) to join us. Later I would find out that she was trying to set us up! When I first met Andrew, I thought he was the nicest guy I had ever met. All three of us spent the evening enjoying each other’s company and socializing with friends. At the end of the night, Andrew and I exchanged phone numbers. I felt there was something there, but I didn’t sense that it was the right time yet. Besides, I had just graduated college and real estate school, so I was definitely not interested in dating anyone at the time! Flash forward ten months (and a worldwide pandemic) later, Andrew reaches out to me via Instagram. We start talking and before you know it, we start spending time together. We became best friends. It wasn’t long before we realized our feelings for each other and officially started dating. Last September, we went for a drive up on the parkway. It was a beautiful late afternoon. We stopped at Wolf Mountain Overlook, and he got down on one knee. Of course, I said yes! The rest is history. Our wedding day was everything I could’ve dreamt of, and more.

What Different Types of Venues Have to Offer & Tips for Navigating Your Venue Tours

You open your computer, you type in “wedding venues near me” and 7,000 Google results bombard you with everything from barns, to country clubs, to AirBNBs and vineyards. What’s a couple to think with all these options? The task of narrowing down a wedding venue can be daunting when it seems like a new venue opens every day. How do you find a venue that matches your vision? And what should you look for when you go for tours?

As a wedding planner, I see couples battling the Google overwhelm regularly when it comes to their venue search. Let’s take a look at the unique offerings specific venue types have that others don’t, and hopefully that will help you narrow down your search!

Barn Venues

The Barn Wedding trend isn’t going anywhere any time soon and there’s a reason why.

Exposed wood, plentiful natural backdrops and the serenity of a simpler way of life surrounding the venue gives barn venues a laid back, natural vibe you don’t find anywhere else. If you’re looking for a venue that feels authentic to your Southern roots and gives a homey, natural vibe — a barn venue may be just what you’re looking for.

Restaurants, Bed & Breakfasts and Hotels

Restaurants, bed & breakfasts and hotels with event spaces are unique in the fact that all catering and bartending is handled in-house. These venues offer the simplicity of being a one-stop-shop for many big ticket vendors on your list that may include catering, desserts, bartending and lodging. These venue spaces are typically very neutral and can be easily adapted to your wedding style. If a one-stop-shop is what you’re looking for, you may want to start your search with hotels, bed & breakfasts and restaurants!

Historic Homes

With deep historic roots and a backdrop of an era gone by, estates and manors are a piece of living history that can offer the unique ability to transport your wedding to another time. If you want your wedding to look like the

cover of a Jane Austen novel or a Bridgerton garden party, a historic home may be the venue type for you.

Museums

Art, science, history — you name it, a museum can offer it. Museums are such unique venue spaces in that they need little to no decorating, and guests can enjoy perusing the collections during cocktail hour and the reception as an additional form of entertainment. If you’re looking for a very interactive and picturesque venue, museums are a great place to start.

Now that you have an idea of what type of venue to look for, here are five things you need to consider and ask about when going on those initial tours:

1. Rain Plan - If the worst storm of the year came through on your wedding day, could you still get married there and would you like it? Don’t book a venue where you hate the rain plan, because that’s tempting fate to rain that day.

2. Hotels Nearby - Are the majority of your guests flying or driving in? Make sure to ask the venue for nearby hotels that you can suggest for guests to stay at, or book a room block at. If there are none, are you willing to ask your guests to fly in, rent a car, and drive an hour to the venue?

3. Catering Kitchen - Some caterers won’t work at venues that don’t have catering kitchens or prep space, depending on the kind of food that’s being served and how far it is from the caterer’s base kitchen. This can definitely limit your catering options.

4. Parking - Again, are a lot of people traveling in? Be sure to ask about parking including how many spaces, whether guests will have to pay to park, and if there are any alternative transportation options.

5. Photo Ops - Does the venue offer a variety of options for photo locations, or will the setting of your wedding album have the same background in every photo?

With these things in mind, go find that venue of your dreams and feel confident in knowing what you want and how you want it!

Melissa & Kevin

Melissa and Kevin got married alongside their daughter Isabella and all of their family and friends at the beautiful Wrightsville Manor in Wilmington, North Carolina. It was a beautiful day with perfect weather for the sneakerobsessed couple to exchange their vows.

The bride, Melissa, who is known to love anything witchy, had small subtle touches throughout the venue that portrayed her personality and her likes. The best was her stunning, one-of-a-kind dress, a beautiful black lace dress with a medium long tail. Her old-Hollywood makeup, along with her witchy dress, was completely authentic to her. The first look with her bridesmaids was surprising and emotional because she told the bridal party she said ‘yes’ to a different dress and when those doors opened and the girls saw, they could not believe their eyes as that was not the dress they were expecting. They were all in awe and in tears.

The groom, Kevin, known for his love for sneakers, also added his own personal touch to the big day by having himself and his groomsmen all wear trendy sneakers. He wore an early pair of Tiffany Airforce 1s. His bride would also switch into those same shoes at the end of the night.

Melissa was accompanied down the aisle by her sweet and loving daughter Isabella. After the ceremony, the newlyweds danced the night away with all of their loved ones. The day was truly magical and was filled with lots of love, joy and new memories.

Sydney & Andrew

Andrew and I met in 2014 through mutual friends and remained solely friends for the next six years. Neither of us in a million years imagined we would end up where we are now. I think both of us can honestly say that God definitely had a plan when putting us together.

Andrew and I started dating in August 2020 when we went on a friend’s trip to the mountains in West Virginia, and the rest is history. We bought a house in Delaware and decided to spend the rest of our lives together. We are both very family-oriented and knew we wanted a personal wedding with our closest family and friends. After many attempts to find a venue, nothing stuck out to us. We decided to go a different route than most people do. We rented a million-dollar mansion on the beaches of the Outer Banks, and invited 100 of our closest family and friends to help us celebrate the week.

We are so thankful to have so many amazing people in our lives who helped us make our day everything we could’ve dreamed of! Family friends prepared and served our dinner, my aunt made hundreds of cookies for our dessert bar, my best friend’s mom created my beautiful bouquet, table centerpieces, all our signage, and so much more that made everything beautiful! This truly was a family affair and we are forever grateful.

Kelsey & Christian

On February 29, 2020, Christian heard that his god sister was planning a trip to Charlotte to visit his family and explore the city for a night out. His god sister invited Kelsey, her childhood friend, to come along. When Christian arrived home that weekend, he realized that his god sister had brought a friend (Kelsey), and he couldn’t take his eyes off her.

That night, Kelsey and Christian let their long glances and bashful smiles across the dinner table do the talking for them. That day, a Leap Day, with an unprecedented global pandemic on the horizon, was also the start of a beautiful, intimate relationship. They later got engaged on a white sandy beach in Aruba on April 22nd (the day in between their April birthdays — Kelsey was totally surprised!), and were married that same year, October 23rd, 2022.

The wedding day was filled with unfortunate surprises, yet there was a surpassing peace. There were bed bug bites on the bride, last-minute cancellations from vendors, technical difficulties from the DJ, sparklers that wouldn’t sparkle…you name it! But the presence of God was felt through the clouds overhead and in the gentle wind that danced across the cobblestone walkway. When the ceremony started, Kelsey and Christian locked eyes with each other, as they had that first night they met, and revealed the depth of their love in front of family and friends. It was truly a day to always remember.

Our journey began when we met in high school in 2007. From growing up in Ohio to moving to Boston, Portland, Colorado, and then back to Ohio, we decided it was finally time to throw a wedding bash. Since we had been together for nearly 15 years prior to getting married, we knew we didn’t want just one single night to celebrate. We were on the hunt for a venue that would host an entire weekend of activities and fun for our guests while being able to have the majority of them stay on-site, and we found just that. From an amazing welcome party to start the weekend to a morning out on the lake with our wedding party, to the sendoff brunch on Sunday, the Greystone Inn was the perfect location for our vision which we wanted to feel like “elevated summer camp.” Our entire wedding weekend at The Greystone Inn was an absolute dream come true made possible by incredible, easy-to-work-with vendors. Everything went off without a hitch, thanks to all the hard work of everyone behind the scenes, allowing my husband and I and all of our guests to have the best weekend ever! So many lifelong memories were made and since then, all of our guests have raved about the time they had. They have said that they can’t wait to go back and visit. We are so grateful for all of those who were involved in making our whole weekend so special.

Joey and I met while briefly working together at a restaurant in Columbus, Ohio. Two years later, mutual friends set us up. Our friendship grew and before long we were inseparable. After four years of dating, Joey proposed in EPCOT a couple days before Thanksgiving, and we spent the rest of the week celebrating with family.

We knew we wanted to get married somewhere in the mountains and being from North Carolina, I was hoping we would find the perfect location there – and we did! Our photographer was amazing in helping us find the perfect spot to take pictures before the ceremony. We hiked over a mile on the Blue Ridge Parkway and the views were incredible!

My Dad passed in 2019, so I had every intention of walking myself down the aisle but when Joey’s Dad asked if he could walk me down the aisle, the answer was obvious. His parents have always been so loving and welcoming, so it was special to have that moment with him.

Our ceremony was intimate and full of love. Seventy of our closest family and friends came from all corners of the country to be with us. We chose to write our own vows and there wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd. Our reception was fun and uniquely us with many Disney and Marvel details! We even had a Cohen family flash mob and a cameo from Billy Boyd congratulating us on our ‘fellowship.’

My Tips for Planning a Wedding in 7 Weeks or Less

Planning and executing a wedding in less than 7 weeks is no easy feat. It requires lots of coffee, checklists, and concentration. I’ll be the first to admit that I had no idea what actually went into planning a wedding. There are so many moving parts and details, as I soon found out. The reality is, whether it’s a small wedding or a large wedding, planning is still essential, especially when you only have such a short amount of time. Why did I get married in 7 weeks, might you ask? Simple. My husband and I wanted to be married sooner rather than later. There was no other reason!

Here are my tips for planning a wedding in 7 weeks or less that will hopefully help keep you from losing your mind.

1. The less hands involved, the better. After you’ve announced the wedding date, you may find that many people will reach out to you, offer to help you, and get involved. While it is true that most of them are just trying to be helpful, it is better that you have no more than 2 or 3 go-to reliable friends or family members who are directly involved in the planning process. This keeps things streamlined, on-task, and non-confusing. The less hands, the better!

2. Don’t get caught up in perfection. To be honest, I didn’t have much expectations going into my wedding. I had an idea of what I wanted, but I also knew that I was going to have to be flexible. I created it as I went, and I didn’t get hung up on the small things, especially since I was in a time crunch.

3. Find a way to reduce stress. This is imperative if you want to show up on your wedding day fully present. The wedding planning process can be very complex, time-consuming, and all-consuming, so it is important that you find time to recharge, take some deep breaths, and find solid ground in the midst of it all.

4. Eliminate all drama. If there is anyone in your life who is trying to cause unnecessary drama or make things harder than they need to be, remember that it is your wedding, and you have the right to protect your peace.

5. Don’t forget that this day is about you and your partner, no one else. It can be easy to get caught up in all the little details of everything and lose sight of each other. It’s imperative that you and your partner find time to tune out the noise and enjoy each other along the way.

I wish you all the happiness on your wedding day.
