10 YEARS OF CHIC

2024 Decade Edition 1

Hello there paint enthusiasts! Guess what? We’re throwing a party because we’ve officially hit the incredible milestone of 10 years in business! Can you believe it? It feels like just yesterday my husband Jan and I were in the basement of our house in town, surrounded by stacks of picture frames we were manufacturing, dreaming up the magic that would become Country Chic Paint. Let’s rewind to the fall of 2013. There we were, cooking up our paint dreams. Fast forward to January 2014, and we officially launched Country Chic Paint! So, what’s unfolded in these ten years? A whole lot! We didn’t just stop at creating our amazing paint line. We ventured into developing new products and new colors. We outgrew our initial warehouse and made a move to a new location. A few years ago, a little makeover was due, too, so we decided to give our brand a fresh new look and completely revamped our website. On the personal front, our family expanded to three kids! And if that wasn’t enough, we welcomed a dog, two cats, three goats, and a dozen chickens. Our home became a mini zoo, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Speaking of families, our work family became something truly special. So much so that during our recent anniversary dinner, a server innocently mistook us for a group of friends, not realizing it was a work function. It was a compliment for the books! I can’t express enough gratitude for the hundreds of thousands of customers who have embraced our products, using them to breathe new life into old furniture and create homes they adore. Your stories inspire me, and all of us every day, and I’m deeply humbled to be a part of your home transformation journeys. To celebrate this significant milestone, I’m beyond thrilled to introduce our new Decade Collection, featuring six exciting colors. I hope they add a splash of joy and creativity to your homes, just like you’ve brought to ours. As I look back on these ten years, it’s clear that time has flown by. Every day, I wake up with a deep sense of love for what I do and the community that has supported us along the way. In the pages of this guide, I invite you to peek behind the curtain of our company, sharing the stories, people, and passion that make it all possible. Thank you for being a part of our journey. Here’s to the past ten years and the incredible adventures still to come! With heartfelt appreciation,

Spring Crafting Blooms: A Sustainable Adventure in Flower Art Get ready to embark on a creative journey with a craft that’s not only fun for kids but also eco-friendly! This hanging 3D flower art project is the perfect blend of imagination and sustainability. By repurposing egg cartons into vibrant flowers, it not only sparks creativity but also teaches kids the importance of recycling and making art from everyday materials. Materials Needed: Egg Cartons, Country Chic Paint, Paintbrushes, Scissors, Twine or String, Hot Glue Gun and Glue

Carefully cut indivdual cups from egg cartons. Make evenly spaced cuts around the top edge of each cup to create petals. For children under the age of 5, using craft scissors is a safe and suitable choice for this activity.

Select the colors you want for your petal painting on a palette. Apply the chosen colors to the petals. After they dry, you can enhance them with contrasting colors or add small circles in the flower centers. If using multiple colors, be sure to let them completely dry before adding a new layer.

6

COUNTRY CHIC PAINT | 2024 Magazine

Choose a background for displaying your flowers; our top picks are canvas or a wooden board. After selecting a base, paint the background in your preferred color. It’s entirely optional to add painted stems to your base — the choice is yours! The flowers also make a delightful display when left floating.

After your base has dried, employ the hot glue gun to affix the flowers onto it. In case your base lacks a hanging mechanism, use twine and the hot glue gun to craft one on the back. This step ensures you can proudly hang your piece of art!

Display your latest creation! You now own an enchanting hanging flower art piece crafted from repurposed egg cartons. Unleash your creativity by experimenting with a variety of colors and decorations.

DIY DELIGHTS:

Your Chic Masterpieces

Amazing colour

The experience was amazing and easy, I thoroughly enjoyed painting these pieces. I wouldn’t change a thing. Can’t wait to start my next project! Thanks Country Chic Paint! -Tanya Newnham

Hollow Hill

Love this product!!

This was my third time using Country Chic paint, but definitely my largest project. I used Rocky Mountain to completely transform my 90s granite fireplace. The paint has great coverage and in this project, I actually diluted it, which helped the paint cover further area and soak into the rock. It turned out amazing and I’m totally in love with the finished product. -Shaina Bisgard

Nurturing Natural Beauty: Restoring Wooden Furniture Without Paint As much as we love painted furniture (and that’s a lot!), we know it’s not to everyone’s taste. And there are some pieces that just look so beautiful in their original wood tone that it’s a shame to cover that up! Did you know that Country Chic Paint not only makes furniture paint, but a whole collection of other products to help you restore your natural wood furniture as well? In this tutorial we’ll show you a few of our favorite ways to restore old furniture without losing the wood grain look: Hemp Oil, Wax, Glaze and Paint Washing. Check out our blog post for a more in-depth look on restoring wooden furniture without paint.

14

Hemp Oil Our Hemp Oil is 100% natural! It contains only sustainably sourced hemp seed oil so it’s completely safe for the environment and for your health. It can even safely be used on children’s toys and furniture.Hemp Oil is an incredible tool when it comes to reviving old wood. Not only will it quench dry, thirsty wood and give it a buttery smooth finish, but it will make the natural color and grain of your wood really pop! Apply Hemp Oil with a cloth, brush, or sponge over clean, raw wood and watch the magic happen before your eyes!

How to Restore Wood Furniture with Hemp Oil 1. Make sure your furniture is clean and dry to start. Give it a wipe down with a vinegar-water solution, if necessary. Remove all dust and debris. 2. If the wood has anything on it like varnish, stain, etc. you may want to sand it down so that the Hemp Oil can really soak in and penetrate the wood. This is particularly important if the wood has damage like water rings or light scratches that need to be repaired. Sand lightly to start as you don’t want to go too deep if you’re working on a veneer! 3. Clean off any sawdust you created. 4. Apply a thin coat of Hemp Oil to your entire piece with a lint-free cloth, sponge, or a paint brush. 5. Let it soak in and dry for 12 hours. 6. Use a lint-free cloth to buff away any excess oil. Keep buffing longer if you want to add a bit more luster to the finish. 7. For higher traffic pieces like coffee table tops, we recommend adding a second or third coat for optimal durability. 8. Hemp Oil is an all-natural product with no chemical additives, so it can take about four weeks to fully cure. You can of course start using your paint almost right away, but be mindful of the finish and use it gently for the first week. 9. Re-apply Hemp Oil every 2-3 years, as needed.

For more information on Hemp Oil application, check out this tutorial.

17

Furniture Wax Furniture Wax is perfect for protecting your painted or raw wood furniture. It adds a beautiful, polished finish to any project, and because it’s all-natural, it’s also excellent for protecting children’s cribs, toys, and other furnishings. Our Furniture Wax is available in seven colors: Clear, Antiquing (dark brown), Black, Grey, White, Gold and Pearl. Simply apply Furniture Wax to your raw wood furniture with a Wax Brush and buff away the excess to a subtle sheen using a lint-free rag. Use Clear Wax to keep the original wood color while adding protection and a buttery smooth feel, or choose a tinted wax to add some extra color!

This is also important if the wood has damage like water rings or light scratches that need to be repaired. Sand lightly to start as you don’t want to go too deep if you’re working on a veneer! 3. Clean off any sawdust you created. 4. Apply a thin coat of Furniture Wax in any color to your entire piece. For best results, apply with a wax brush using circular motions to make sure you spread the wax evenly into every nook and cranny. 5. You can allow the wax to dry for a few minutes, or simply start buffing it immediately with a dry, lint-free cloth. Keep buffing longer if you want to add a bit more luster to the finish. For higher traffic pieces like coffee table tops, we recommend adding a second or third coat for optimal durability. 6. Furniture Wax is an all-natural product with no chemical additives, so it can take about four weeks to fully cure, but as long as it’s been buffed well you can begin using your piece gently after just a few days. 7. Re-apply Furniture Wax every 6-12 months, as needed.

Additional Tips: Keep in mind when using our wax that it’s 100% natural, so it might feel a little different than waxes you’ve used in the past. If the wax is too firm for your liking, we have some tips here on how to soften it up. If you notice a film on top of your wax, that’s completely natural! The film will slowly develop over time and won’t effect the performance of your wax. Just peel it off the surface and continue using your wax as usual!

Clean off any sawdust you created. 4. If you chose to use our tintable Clear Glaze, click here for instructions on how to tint your glaze with paint. If you’re using one of our pre-tinted glazes, continue onto the next step. 5. Apply one coat of Furniture Glaze using a paint brush or sponge. Work in the direction of the wood grain, and do small sections at a time so the glaze doesn’t dry before the next step. While the glaze is still wet, wipe off the excess with a damp, lint-free cloth. 6. After your first coat has dried for 1-2 hours, you may apply a second coat to deepen the color, if desired. 7. For lightly used furniture you can leave the glazed finish as-is. For medium traffic furniture like nightstands and coffee tables, apply a coat of Wax or Hemp Oil. For high traffic projects like dining table tops or kitchen cabinets, we recommend adding a durable sealant like Clear Coat.

For more information on Glaze application, check out this tutorial.

Paint Washing This technique is commonly known as “white washing”, but it can be done with any paint color! White washing is a wonderful way to modernize the color of your wood furniture without completely covering up the natural wood grain. Here are some of our favorite paint colors for keeping a more natural look when paint washing furniture: Simplicity, Sunday Tea, Soiree, Road Trip, Driftwood and Leather Bound. White Washing is a very simple painting technique. Dilute any Country Chic Paint color with water in a 2:1 ratio, brush it on to your raw wood furniture, and wipe away the excess with a damp lint-free rag. By paint washing your furniture you can keep your project looking natural, but cover some of the outdated yellow/orange wood undertones.

Brushed by Summer: DIY Fabric Pillow Painting for a Seasonal Splash Ignite your creativity and add a touch of vibrant warmth to your summer with our exciting fabric pillow painting tutorial! Transform plain fabric pillows into personalized works of art that reflect your unique style and the sunny vibes of the season. Materials Needed: Fabric Pillow Cover, Paints (various colors), Artist Brushes, Pencil (for tracing your idea), and Paint Palette or Paper Plate.

Choose a plain fabric pillow cover in a light color to allow the paint colors to pop. Make sure the fabric is suitable for painting—cotton and canvas work well. Insert a piece of cardboard or a plastic sheet inside the pillow cover to prevent the paint from bleeding through. Ensure the fabric is smooth and taut.

Consider sketching a simple design on the pillow cover using a pencil if you have a specific pattern in mind. This step is optional but can help guide your painting process.

34

COUNTRY CHIC PAINT | 2024 Magazine

Choose vibrant summer hues and add them to a palette or paper plate. Dip your paintbrush into one color at a time and begin applying the paint to the fabric. Experiment with different brushstrokes, patterns, or freehand designs to create a unique and lively summer-inspired pattern.

Allow each color to dry before adding another to prevent bleeding or muddying of colors. Layering colors adds depth and dimension to your design. Our Artist brushes are great for adding intricate details or highlights to your design. This step allows for additional customization and refinement.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully painted a summer-inspired fabric pillow that adds a burst of color and personality to your home. Display your vibrant creation proudly, and enjoy the cozy and personalized atmosphere it brings to your summer living space.

Falling for DIY: A Step-by-Step Guide to Painting Your Perfect Fall Serving Tray Elevate your dinner parties with a personalized touch by creating a beautifully stenciled serving tray. In this step-by-step tutorial, we’ll guide you through the process of transforming a plain tray into a fall-inspired masterpiece using stencils. Materials Needed: Wooden or Metal serving tray, Sandpaper, Primer (of your tray has a glossy surface) Paint, Stencil, Paintbrush and Clear Coat (if your serving tray will be used often)

If your tray has a glossy finish or is unfinished, gently sand the surface to enhance paint adhesion. Wipe away any dust with a clean, dry cloth. For unfinished trays or those with a glossy surface, apply a thin coat of Bonding Primer. Allow it to dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Select a fall-inspired base color for your tray and apply an even coat of paint. Allow it to dry completely before proceeding with the stencil application process. We chose Liquorice for our base.

46

COUNTRY CHIC PAINT | 2024 Magazine

Once the base color is dry, position and secure your stencils using painter’s tape. Ensure they are firmly adhered to the tray for precise design application. Dip a sponge brush into one of your paints. Blot off any excess paint on a paper towel or rag. Gently and evenly dab the wet paint over the stencil, ensuring full coverage within the design. Keep the stencil color wet for easy removal.

Carefully remove the painter’s tape and lift the stencils from the tray while the paint is still wet. This technique allows for seamless integration of the designs, and the base color remains dry, creating a dynamic contrast. Allow the stenciled designs to dry completely before moving or repositioning the tray.

Once the paint is fully dry, protect your masterpiece by applying our Clear Coat. This will help preserve the paint and make the tray more durable.

Elevate Your Culinary Haven: Country Chic Paint’s Kitchen Transformation The kitchen is often considered the heart of the home, and a simple cabinet update can breathe new life into the entire space. Whether you’re looking to enhance the aesthetic or increase functionality, this step-by-step guide will walk you through the process of updating your kitchen cabinets, turning them into a focal point of style and efficiency. Want to follow along with a more in-depth tutorial on how to transform your kitchen? Check out our Blog for this tutorial and many more great tricks and tips!

50

COUNTRY CHIC PAINT | 2024 Magazine

Assess Your Current Cabinets:

Begin by taking stock of your existing cabinets. Identify any damage, worn-out finishes, or outdated hardware. This assessment will guide your decision-making process for the update and help determine if any repairs are necessary.

Choose a Design Concept:

Define the design concept that aligns with your vision for the kitchen. Whether it’s a classic, modern, farmhouse, or eclectic style, selecting a theme will guide your choices for colors, materials, and hardware. Not sure? Take our Color Quiz! We opted for one of our Limited Edition Colors: Neverland for our walls and Soiree for our cabinets.

Prepare the Surface:

Before applying your first layer of paint, ensure that your cabinets are smooth and clean. You may need to detach your cabinet doors for the best results. Sand any imperfections lightly with fine-grit sandpaper, and wipe away dust with a clean, lint-free cloth.

51

Do you need to prime?

We highly recommend painting test patches on a few cabinet doors to make sure you’re getting great adhesion and the surface underneath isn’t bleeding through. If you have done a scratch test and you’re not happy with the adhesion, it might be a good idea to start with a coat of our Clear Bonding Primer to guarantee your work will last for years to come!

Apply the Paint:

Using either a paintbrush or a painting sponge, apply a uniform layer of your chosen color. Depending on the intensity of the original base color, it might be necessary to apply up to three coats. Ensure each coat is fully dry before applying additional layers.

Apply the Clear Coat:

Because kitchen cabinets need to withstand a lot of usage, we recommend finishing them with our Clear Coat. It will give your cabinets a very high-end, durable finish that can stand up to daily wear and tear and will wipe clean beautifully. Two coats is best for optimal protection.

56

COUNTRY CHIC PAINT | 2024 Magazine

Choose the Right Paint Color:

Selecting the appropriate paint is crucial for a successful tile transformation. Choose a paint color that complements your overall design aesthetic. Not sure which color is right for you? Take our Color Quiz! We chose the striking Starstruck for ours.

Paint the Tiles:

Using a high-quality paintbrush or a sprayer, apply a thin, even coat of Country Chic Paint to the tiles. Begin with our Bonding Primer if you’ve opted for one, and follow with the selected paint color. Be mindful of any directional strokes to achieve a consistent finish. Allow the first coat to dry completely before applying subsequent coats, if necessary.

Seal the Painted Tiles:

To protect the newly painted tiles from wear and tear, it’s essential to seal the surface. Country Chic Paint's Clear Coat not only enhances durability but also adds a beautiful satin sheen to the finish. Apply Clear Coat following our tips in this tutorial and allow 2-3 hours dry time between coats.

A Guide to taking Furniture From Ordinary to Extraordinary Upcycling isn’t just a creative endeavor; it’s a thoughtful process that involves considering various elements to ensure the success of your transformation. From selecting the right piece and envisioning its new life to choosing the perfect color palette and incorporating sustainable practices, join us as we delve into the key factors that will guide you through the rewarding art of upcycling. Want more information? Follow along with our blog post here.

Before You Buy

Discovering and reviving an old piece of furniture can be a rewarding journey, but before embarking on a refinishing project, it’s essential to consider various factors, including the safety of the piece. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll delve into key considerations when selecting, testing for lead, and refinishing vintage furniture.

Assessing Structural Integrity:

Before envisioning a new color scheme, thoroughly examine the piece for structural soundness. Check for loose joints, wobbly legs, or any other issues that may require repairs. Ensuring the piece is sturdy will contribute to its longevity and overall functionality. If your piece has minor damage - consider fixing these issues yourself! Nothing feels better than fixing an old piece up with your own hands.

Understanding the Wood Type:

Identify the type of wood used in the furniture. Different woods respond differently to paints, stains, and finishes. Some woods, like oak or pine, readily absorb paint, while others, like mahogany, may require additional preparation including a primer. Research the characteristics of the wood to make informed decisions on the refinishing process.

Testing for Lead:

Given that older furniture may have been painted with lead-based paint, it’s crucial to test for lead content before starting any refinishing work. Lead exposure poses serious health risks, especially when sanding or stripping old paint. Lead testing kits are widely available and provide a simple and effective way to check for the presence of lead-based paint. If the test is positive, take appropriate precautions or seek professional assistance. For additional information, Canadian customers can contact the Product Safety division of Health Canada at 1-800-O-CANADA. US customers contact the US EPA/Lead Information Hot Line at 1-800-424-LEAD.

Hardware and Detailing:

Pay attention to any hardware or intricate detailing on the furniture. Decide whether to restore the original hardware or replace it with new pieces that complement your design aesthetic. Embrace or enhance any decorative elements that contribute to the piece’s character. 60

Surface Preparation:

When refinishing old, vintage furniture, surface prep is a crucial step that sets the foundation for a flawless finish. In this guide, we will delve into the essential considerations when preparing the surface of your vintage furniture, ensuring that every stroke of paint enhances the beauty of the piece. Even though our paint doesn't require a lot of prep work in most cases, it's still important to take a few simple steps such as a good cleaning to ensure your work will last for years

Inspecting and Cleaning:

Begin by closely inspecting the furniture’s surface. Identify any damage, imperfections, or existing finishes. Clean the surface thoroughly, removing dust, grime, and any residues. A gentle cleaning solution and a soft cloth can help reveal the true condition of the wood.

Stripping Old Finishes:

If the furniture has existing paint, varnish, or finishes, stripping is sometimes necessary. Choose an appropriate stripping agent based on the type of finish. Use a paint scraper, steel wool, or a chemical stripper to remove the old layers, ensuring a clean and bare surface for refinishing. Be sure to check for Lead if you are not sure!

Sanding for Smoothness:

Sanding is a critical step in achieving a smooth and even surface. Start with a coarse-grit sandpaper to remove any remaining finish or imperfections. Gradually progress to finer grits to achieve a polished finish. Pay special attention to edges, corners, and intricate details.

Filling Gaps and Repairs:

Inspect the furniture for any cracks, dents, or gaps. Fill these imperfections with wood filler or epoxy, ensuring a seamless and level surface. Sand the filled areas once they have dried to blend them seamlessly with the rest of the piece.

Choosing the Right Colors & the Painting Process:

Selecting the right paint colors for a project is a pivotal step that can transform any space or piece of furniture. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll explore the art of choosing paint colors and delve into essential considerations to ensure a flawless finish that reflects your personal style and vision.

Understanding the Purpose:

Before diving into color palettes, consider the purpose of the space or the furniture piece. Is it a relaxing retreat, a vibrant living area, or a functional workspace? Not sure? Take our Color Quiz!

Considering Natural Light:

The lighting in a space plays a significant role in how colors are perceived. Consider the natural light the area receives throughout the day. Some colors may appear different under various lighting conditions, so test samples to see how they react to different light sources.

Exploring Color Psychology:

Colors evoke specific emotions and moods. For example, blues and greens promote calmness, while yellows and oranges bring warmth and energy. Explore color psychology to choose hues that align with the ambiance you want to create in your space. Want a little help? Refer to our Color Psychology article on Page 10.

Harmonizing with Existing Elements:

Take stock of existing elements in the space, such as furniture, flooring, and decor. Choose colors that harmonize with these elements to create a cohesive and well-balanced look. Consider undertones and complementary shades.

Sampling Before Committing:

Always test paint colors before committing to a full application. Paint small sections or use sample boards to see how the colors interact with the lighting and existing elements. This step ensures that the chosen colors meet your expectations.

Fine-Tuning Details:

Before considering staging, ensure that your painted piece is flawless by fine-tuning the details. Inspect for any uneven surfaces, drips, or imperfections. Touch up areas that need attention to guarantee a polished final appearance.

Adding a Glaze for Extra Depth:

Want to add more texture to your paint color, or perhaps make grooves and detail areas really pop? Consider adding one of our five colors of Furniture Glaze (also available in a clear, tintable formula)! Apply the glaze using a paintbrush, covering a small section at a time. Work the glaze into the crevices and details of the piece. After applying the glaze to a section, use a lint-free cloth or rag to gently wipe off the excess glaze. This will leave the glaze in the crevices and give your piece a beautifully aged or distressed look.

Choosing the Right Hardware:

The hardware you choose can significantly impact the overall aesthetic. Consider the style of your piece and select hardware that complements it. Whether it’s knobs, handles, or pulls, opt for finishes that enhance the character you want to convey.

Distressing for Character:

Depending on the style you’re aiming for, distressing can add character and charm to your piece. Sand edges, corners, and raised surfaces to mimic natural wear. Be strategic in your distressing to maintain a balanced and intentional appearance. Want to know some more easy ways to distress? Check out our blog post on the top 3 ways to distress furniture.

Choosing a Protective Topcoat:

Country Chic Paint is durable on its own, but in some cases you may choose to add some extra protection. Choose Furniture Wax for things like coffee tables and end tables that will see light-medium use. Clear Coat is the best for anything that needs to stand up to a lot of wear and tear. The type of finish you choose will depend on the piece's purpose and the desired look.

Understanding the Design Style:

Before diving into styling, consider the design style of your new furniture piece. Whether it’s modern, rustic, eclectic, or traditional, understanding its inherent style will guide your choices for complementary decor and accessories.

Establishing a Focal Point:

Identify the focal point of the room and arrange your new furniture piece to enhance it. This could be a fireplace, a feature wall, or a stunning view. Positioning your furniture in harmony with the room’s natural focal point creates a cohesive atmosphere.

Balancing Proportions:

Achieve visual balance by considering the proportions of your furniture piece in relation to the room. Avoid overcrowding or isolating the piece; instead, aim for a balanced distribution of furniture and decor that allows each element to shine.

Color Coordination:

Coordinate the colors of your furniture piece with the existing color palette of the room. Harmonious color schemes create a cohesive and inviting atmosphere. Consider complementary or analogous color combinations for a visually pleasing effect.

Layering Textures:

Introduce texture to add depth and interest to your styling. Consider the tactile qualities of materials like wood, fabric, metal, and glass. Layering textures provides a multi-dimensional look that elevates the overall design.

Functionality and Flow:

Ensure that the arrangement is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional. Consider the flow of the room and how people will navigate the space. Arrange furniture in a way that encourages natural movement and easy access.

Creating Visual Interest:

Add visual interest by varying the heights and shapes of accessories. Consider using statement pieces like artwork, mirrors, or unique lighting fixtures to draw the eye and create focal points within the room.

Embracing Negative Space:

Allow for negative space around your new furniture piece. This intentional emptiness provides visual breathing room, preventing the space from feeling cluttered and allowing each element to be appreciated individually.

Method 1: Classic Elegance - Solid Color Painting Step 1: Clean the surface of your fireplace thoroughly to ensure proper paint adhesion. Use a mild detergent or a mixture of vinegar and water. Step 2: If your fireplace has existing paint or a glossy finish, lightly sand the surface to create a textured base for the new paint. Wipe away any dust. Step 3: Apply a coat of Bonding Primer to the fireplace. This helps the paint adhere better and provides a smooth base for your chosen color. Allow the Bonding Primer to dry completely. Step 4: Using a synthetic brush, apply your chosen paint color evenly over the brick or stone. Allow each coat to dry for 1-2 hours before applying the next. Depending on your color choice and the original surface color, you may need 2-3 coats for full coverage.. Step 5: Once the final coat is dry, carefully remove any painter’s tape. Touch up any uneven areas with a small brush if necessary. Your fireplace now boasts a classic, solid color that adds elegance to your space.

Method 2: Rustic Charm - Distressed Finish Step 1: Follow the same preparation steps as in Method 1, clean and dry the surface. Apply a coat of Bonding Primer, if necessary, and let it dry before moving onto the next step. Step 2: Using a medium-sized paintbrush, apply a thin coat of paint to the brick surface. Allow it to dry completely before deciding if additional coats are needed. You can dilute the paint with water for a more transparent effect. Step 3: Once the base coat is dry, lightly sand specific areas of the painted brick to reveal the natural texture underneath. Focus on areas that would naturally wear over time, such as corners, edges, and high-use spots. Use medium to coarse grit sandpaper for this step. Step 4: Use a smaller paintbrush to touch up any areas that need more distressing or to add extra details. You can also use the brush to add more paint to certain areas for a layered effect.

Step 2: In a 4 part glaze to 1 part paint ratio, mix together Clear Glaze with the paint color of your choice in a separate container This blend will provide a semi-transparent whitewash with added depth and character. Ensure you select a fitting accent color as the base of your fireplace will remain visible through the paint layers. Step 3: Use a clean rag or towel to wipe away any excess paint. This step helps maintain a natural and varied appearance on the brick surface while allowing the glaze to enhance the overall rustic effect. Step 4: Continue working in sections, applying the glazed whitewash and wiping away excess paint. Be mindful to maintain a consistent look across the entire surface. Step 5: Allow the glazed whitewash to dry completely. Once the glazed whitewash is dry, step back and evaluate the overall look.
