Welcoming Autumn: Front Stoop Decor Ideas and Tips for a Colorful Fall Makeover

As the air turns crisp and leaves begin to don their vibrant fall colors, it’s time to embrace the spirit of autumn and give your front stoop a warm and inviting makeover. Whether you’re hosting festive gatherings or simply enjoying the beauty of the season, decorating your front stoop for fall can create a charming and cozy ambiance that sets the perfect tone for this time of year.

Additionally, if you’re considering painting your front door, it can be a fantastic opportunity to add a pop of color and enhance the overall look.

Embrace Natural Elements:

Fall is all about celebrating the beauty of nature’s bounty. Incorporate natural elements like pumpkins, gourds, hay bales, cornstalks, and colorful mums to create a charming and rustic display on your front stoop. Arrange a cluster of pumpkins of varying sizes and colors around your entryway or place a couple of cornstalks on either side of the door for a dramatic effect. The warmth and authenticity of these natural elements instantly add a touch of fall magic to your home’s exterior.

Light it Up:

As the days grow shorter, lighting becomes an essential element in creating a cozy and inviting ambiance. Consider adding string lights, lanterns, or flameless candles to illuminate your front stoop. Twinkling lights wrapped around porch railings or draped along the doorway can create a magical atmosphere during the evenings.

8 FALL 2023 COLOR GUIDE

Play with Colors:

When decorating your front stoop for autumn, consider the color palette you want to work with. Traditional fall hues like deep oranges, golden yellows, rustic reds, and earthy browns can instantly evoke the cozy feeling of the season. Introduce these colors through your choice of pumpkins, flowers, and accessories. Coordinating wreaths or garlands with fall foliage can also add a charming touch to your front door.

Layer Textures:

To create visual interest and depth, layer different textures in your fall decor. Mixing hay bales with soft cushions or pillows on your seating area, draping cozy throws over chairs, and using textured doormats can add warmth and dimension to your front stoop. A mix of rustic and soft elements will make your outdoor space feel welcoming and comfortable.

Consider Your Front Door:

Your front door is the centerpiece of your stoop, and painting it with a fresh, fall-inspired color can make a bold statement. Consider colors like rich burgundy, warm olive green, or a deep shade of burnt orange to complement the fall palette. Before painting, ensure your front door is clean and free of any peeling paint. Don’t forget to protect the hardware with painter’s tape and finish your door with our top coat, Clear Coat.

Personalize with Wreaths and Signs:

Incorporate personalized elements to make your front stoop uniquely yours. Hang a fall-themed wreath on your door featuring autumn foliage, berries, or mini pumpkins. Add a custom sign with a warm greeting or your family name to add a personal touch.

Decorating your front stoop for fall is a delightful way to welcome the season and create a charming entrance to your home. By embracing natural elements, playing with fall colors, and considering your front door as a canvas for creativity, you can transform your stoop into a cozy and inviting space that celebrates the beauty of autumn.

Happy fall decorating!

DIY: How to Make Wooden Gho0o0oosts for Halloween

As the leaves begin to change and the air turns crisp, it’s the perfect time to infuse your home with some spooky yet stylish fall charm. In this DIY tutorial, we’ll show you how to craft adorable wooden block ghosts using a technique that adds a touch of rustic elegance to your seasonal decor.

Let’s dive into the step-by-step process of creating these enchanting wooden block ghosts.

Materials Needed:

Wooden blocks (various sizes)

Dark paint (we used Dark Roast)

White Paint (we used Crinoline)

Paintbrushes,

Fine-grit Sandpaper

Beeswax Bar (optional)

Paper Towels or a lint-free rag

Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace

Set up your workspace by laying down a protective surface or a drop cloth to prevent any accidental paint spills. Gather all your materials within easy reach.

Step 2: Base Coat with Dark Paint

Start by applying a base coat of dark paint to your wooden blocks, we used Dark Roast. This will serve as the underlying color that will peek through the distressed areas later. Use a paintbrush to evenly coat the entire surface of each block. Let the paint dry completely before moving on to the next step.

25 FALL 2023 COLOR GUIDE

Step 3: Apply White Paint as Second Coat

Once the dark paint is dry, apply a layer of white paint, we used Crinoline. This will be the top coat that adds a ghostly appearance to your wooden blocks. You can leave some areas less covered to create a worn, aged look.

Step 4: Distressing the Surface

After the white paint has dried, it’s time to distress the surface. Gently sand the edges and raised portions of the block using medium-grit sandpaper. Focus on areas that would naturally experience wear and tear over time, like corners, edges, and any surface imperfections. This will reveal the dark paint underneath and create a charming, weathered effect. For our ghosts, we decided to just distress the bottom of the ghost.

Step 5: Finishing Touches

Once you’re satisfied with the distressed look, let the blocks dry completely. If desired or your ghosts will be living outside, you can apply our clear protective finish, Clear Coat to seal the paint and give your wooden block ghosts a polished appearance.

With just a few simple steps, you’ve transformed ordinary wooden blocks into charming and eerie ghostly decor pieces. This DIY project adds a unique touch to your fall decorating endeavors, capturing the essence of the season with its hauntingly beautiful distressed look.

Ageless Metal Lantern Decor: The Beaut y of Painting and Wet Distressing Revealed

Elevate the ambiance of your living space this fall by giving an old metal lantern a fresh and opulent makeover. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps of painting a metal lantern using luxurious Opulence as the base coat and complementing it with the soft elegance of Lazy Linen as the top coat. The wet distressing technique will add a touch of vintage charm, making this lantern a standout piece in your decor collection. Want to follow along with a Video Tutorial? Materials Needed:

Metal lantern, Opulence paint, Lazy Linen paint, Paintbrushes Sandpaper or lint-free rag, Paper towels & Water, Clear Bonding Primer

Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace

Begin by setting up your workspace with a protective surface or drop cloth to prevent any accidental paint spills. Arrange all the materials you’ll need for the project within easy reach.

Step 2: Apply Opulence Base Coat

Start by applying the Opulence paint as the base coat to the metal lantern. Use a paintbrush to coat the entire surface of the lantern with the Opulence paint. Ensure even coverage and let it dry completely before proceeding to the next step.

31 FALL 2023 COLOR GUIDE

Step 3: Layer Lazy Linen Paint

Once the Opulence base coat is dry, apply a layer of Lazy Linen paint over it. This delicate, creamy white hue will contrast beautifully with the rich jewel tone underneath. Use a paintbrush to gently brush the Lazy Linen paint onto the lantern’s surface.

Step 4: Wet Distressing Technique

As the Lazy Linen paint starts to dry but is still slightly tacky, it’s time to employ the wet distressing technique. Wet a piece of medium-grit sandpaper or lint-free rag in water and wring it out. Gently sand the surface of the lantern, focusing on areas where wear and tear would naturally occur. This will expose the Opulence base coat, creating an aged and weathered effect.

Step 5: Enhance the Distressed Look

After distressing, dampen a paper towel with water and gently rub it over the sanded areas. This step will further soften the edges and blend the layers of paint, achieving a seamless distressed appearance. Wipe away any excess paint or water with a clean paper towel as needed.

Step 6: Final Touches

Allow the lantern to dry completely before handling or displaying it. If desired, you can apply Clear Coat, a protective sealant to preserve the painted finish and add a subtle sheen.

By following this tutorial, you’ve transformed a simple metal lantern into a stunning decor piece that exudes elegance and charm. The combination of Opulence and Lazy Linen paints, along with the wet distressing technique, has brought out a timeless and sophisticated look.

Display your beautifully painted lantern in your home, patio, or garden to create a captivating focal point that captures the essence of opulence and vintage allure.

Materials Needed: Wooden Dresser. 2 Paint Colors Of Your Choice, Clear Bonding Primer, Paintbrushes, Sandpaper, Clean Cloth Or Rag, Drop Cloth & Clear Coat

37 FALL 2023 COLOR GUIDE

Step 1: Prep the Dresser

Start by removing all drawers and sanding any area where there might be rough edges or peeling wood to make sure your painting surface is smooth. We also advise to remove all hardware such as handles and hinges to make the painting process go smoother. You will want to give your dresser a good clean after these steps to get rid of any dust, dirt, or debris.

Step 2: Apply Primer

As a larger furniture piece that will be displayed within your home, you will want to ensure the paint bonds beautifully to your dresser. By using Country Chic paint’s Clear Bonding Primer this will ensure a strong adhesion. Apply a thin, even coat of primer to the entire dresser using a paintbrush. Allow it to dry completely as per the manufacturer’s instructions.

Step 3: Paint the first color

Depending on where you wish to color block your dresser, use painters tape in tricker areas to ensure the different colors do not mix. If you plan to do coloring blocking like how we did in our tutorial video, Tape is not needed. Choose your favorite Country Chic paint color, we chose Leather Bound! Apply it on the dresser surfaces you want. Apply an even layer with a paintbrush to achieve smooth coverage. Allow the paint to dry before moving onto the next step.

Step 4: Paint the second color

Choose your favorite color by Country Chic paint and all the paint to the areas on the dresser you want as the accents. We choose to accent the fronts of the dresser doors as well as the top surface with the color

Hurricane. Use a paintbrush to achieve smooth evan coverage.

Step 5: Apply the second coat

After the first coat of paint has completely dried, apply a second coat of paint to achieve full coverage to ensure your dresser turns out beautifully. Allow paint to dry for 12 hours

Step 6: Protecting your painted Dresser

Now that your dresser is beautifully painted, you will want to ensure it stays that way! Apply a layer of Country Chic Paint’s Clear Coat to add a layer of protection to ensure your paint is long lasting!

Step 7: Finishing touches

Now that your dresser is complete, inspect the dresser to ensure you are satisfied with the paint finish. When you are happy with the end result, reattach all the hardware, and put the doors back in the dresser.

Step 8: Enjoy your brand new dresser!

Congratulations! You’ve successfully painted and color blocked your wooden dresser with two stunning Country Chic paint colors. Now, find the perfect spot to display your DIY project and let it become a charming focal point in your space.

To protect your distressed design, apply a clear wax or sealant over the painted areas. This will help preserve the paint and distressing effect. Apply the wax using a clean cloth or brush, following the product instructions.

Step

7: Display Your Distressed Pumpkin

Once the wax is cured and your pumpkin is sealed, it’s ready to be displayed. Whether as part of your autumn decor or for a special event, your distressed pumpkin will have a charming, weathered appearance.

No one is flawless and everyone occasionally makes mistakes.

Brushing Life into Interiors: BT Treasures

Hi there! My name is Brandon Talisse and I am the owner/creator behind BT Treasures Furniture Co. I started my business when I was about fourteen years old, and since I’m now nineteen, it’s been running for the past five years. It has undoubtedly been a roller coaster of events. Since I began, I’ve finished a lot of pieces—more than I really display online because I also do bespoke work.

A reminder: No one is flawless and everyone occasionally makes mistakes. I took around six months to fully grasp the principles of furniture painting, apply them, and complete the work properly as opposed to just doing the bare minimum and getting away with it.

To be quite honest, my most memorable recollection is painting a school desk with latex wall paint. I thought this was the right approach, but I soon realized I was mistaken when I delivered the piece and noticed that the paint was peeling off the laminate desk.

Putting my past terrible mishaps behind me, I want to offer the advice of “let your mind run rampant” which I interpret “ let your imagination guide you in ways that allow you to create the most beautiful piece that has yet to be seen—a piece that even shocks you when you finish it.”You have the capability to create a unique object that can maintain its originality.

Be who you are. Be brilliant, courageous, and extraordinary. With painting furniture, the options are virtually unlimited. Stencils, decals, transfers, and other products are available that let you, the artist, completely transform the way that furniture is painted.

Although I am far from perfect and am constantly learning new methods five years later, it helps me grow as an artist.

Whether you opt for stencils to effortlessly inscribe welcoming words or take a more freehand approach, each stroke of the brush brings a sense of artistic fulfillment. The process becomes an exploration of design possibilities, where you can choose to add delightful distressing for a weathered allure or keep the paint crisp and vibrant.

63 FALL 2023 COLOR GUIDE

Step 1: Prepare the Wood

Start by sanding the wood boards to create a smooth surface. Wipe away any dust with a clean cloth.

Step 2: Base Coat

Choose a background color for your directional sign. Dip a paintbrush into the paint and apply an even base coat to the wood. Let it dry completely before taking the next step.

Step

3: Plan the Design

Decide on the fall-themed designs you want for your directional signage. You can sketch the designs lightly with a pencil or use stencils for more intricate patterns. The pencil will erase off easy once you are done the painting step.

Step 4: Paint the Design

Using the desired colors from your Country Chic Paint collection, paint the fall-themed designs onto the wood. Use different brushes for details and larger areas. Take your time and apply multiple coats if necessary, allowing each coat to dry before proceeding.

Step

5: Add Lettering

If you’re including directional text, either use stencils or carefully freehand the letters using a pencil first, then paint them in with your chosen colors. Painter’s tape can help create clean lines for letters.

Step 6: Distressing (Optional)

For a rustic look, you can distress the painted areas using sandpaper. Lightly sand the edges and certain spots to reveal some of the wood underneath. This adds character and depth to the sign.

Step

7: Seal the Paint

Once the paint is dry and you’re satisfied with the design, apply a clear wax or sealant to protect the painted surface. Follow the product instructions for application.

Step 8: Attach Hanging Mechanism

If you plan to hang the directional sign, attach screw-in hooks to the top corners of the sign. Alternatively, you can drill holes and thread twine or rope through them for hanging.

Step 9: Hang and Enjoy

Find a suitable spot to display your fall-themed directional sign. It could be in your garden, porch, or any area you’d like to add a festive touch. Hang it securely and step back to admire your handcrafted fall decor!
