King Charles III: His life through actions

DDESPUÉS DE LA PARTIDA DE LA REINA ISABEL II, EL PALACIO DE BUCKINGHAM ANUNCIÓ QUE EL TRONO SERÍA HEREDADO POR SU HIJO, EL AHORA REY CARLOS III. Bien conocido como el anterior Príncipe de Gales que más tiempo ha poseído el título, siendo este más de 64 años. Carlos lleva muchos años sirviendo a su país, donde durante esta época pudo llevar a cabo sus trabajos más notables, trabajos que indudablemente lo apoyarán en, ahora, su nuevo cargo como cabeza de la monarquía británica para continuar con el notorio legado que dejó su madre junto con su compromiso de vida al servicio de su país.

Tras su investidura como Príncipe de Gales en 1969, Carlos siguió los pasos de su padre, abuelo y bisabuelos y se embarcó en su carrera naval. Al finalizar su entrenamiento en el Royal Naval College Dartmouth, sirvió en el HMS Norfolk y dos fragatas. En 1974 Su Alteza Real aumentó su experiencia cuando obtuvo la licencia de piloto de helicópteros, y pasó a completar varias misiones más para la Marina Real y la Fuerza Aérea Real.

Pese a terminar su carrera naval en 1976, Carlos todavía estaba apasionado por servir a su país. Ante un nivel sin precedentes de desempleo y una inflación creciente, Su Alteza Real utilizó su pensión de la Marina Real para financiar varias iniciativas comunitarias para ayudar a los jóvenes Británicos. Estos primeros 21 proyectos que estableció formaron luego, los proyectos fundadores de su organización benéfica The Prince’s Trust.

FOLLOWING THE PASSING OF QUEEN ELIZABETH II IN SEPTEMBER 2022, IT WAS ANNOUNCED BY BUCKINGHAM PALACE THAT THE THRONE WILL BE INHERITED BY HER OLDEST SON, NOW KNOWN AS KING CHARLES III. As the longest serving Prince of Wales, having held the title for over 64 years, Charles has spent many years working for the betterment of his country. During this time, he was able to carry out some of his most notable work, which will undoubtedly aid him, as he takes on his new role as the head of the British monarch, to continue the profound legacy left behind by his late mother and her lifelong commitment to serving her country.

Upon his investiture as the Prince of Wales in 1969, Charles embarked on his naval career, following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather, and great-grandfathers. Upon completing his training at the Royal Naval College Dartmouth, he served on the HMS Norfolk and two frigates. In 1974, His Royal Highness expanded his experience by qualifying as a helicopter pilot and went on to complete several more missions for the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.

Although his naval career ended in 1976, Charles was still passionate about serving his country. In the face of record levels of unemployment and increasing inflation in the UK at the time, His Royal Highness used his severance from the navy to fund numerous community initiatives to help young people. These 21 pilot projects went on to form the founding projects for his charitable organisation, The Prince’s Trust.

Now, The Prince’s Charities comprises 19 non-profit organisations headed by Charles III, 18 of which were founded personally by His Royal Highness, and which collectively raise more than £100 million annually to support the King’s charitable work. These organisations include:

• The Prince’s Trust which focuses on creating equal opportunities for young people by providing them with the confidence and tools to try free courses which help them to develop essential life skills, get ready for work and access job opportunities to help them start their careers.

El Palacio de Buckingham ha anunciado que el evento acogerá las “antiguas tradiciones” de la ceremonía milenaria, y a la vez adaptará cambios para reflejar el rol cambiante del monarca en la sociedad británica moderna.

BuckinghamPalace has announced that the event will embrace the “longstanding traditions” of the 1000 year-old ceremony, the last remaining of its kind in Europe, but will embrace several changes in order to reflect the changing role of the monarch in modern British society.

• The Prince’s Foundation, que adopta la visión de Carlos de las comunidades armoniosas a través del ofrecimiento de la enseñanza innovativa de artesanía tradicional, arquitectura y diseño, ciencias, ingeniería, horticultura, bienestar y hospitalidad, con el fin de trabajar hacia una manera de vivir sostenible y de base comunitaria.

• The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund, espera transformar vidas y construir comunidades sostenibles a través de otorgar becas a iniciativas que se adecuan a sus temas de financiación principales: Patrimonio y Conservación, Educación, Salud y Bienestar, Inclusión Social, y Medio Ambiente.

Además de su trabajo caritativo, el Rey Carlos III es celebrado por su activismo ambiental y por sus esfuerzos por combatir el cambio climático, luchando por cambios aún cuando estas ideas todavía se consideraban radicales. Dio su primer discurso sobre el medio ambiente en 1968, siete años antes de que se popularizará el término ‘calentamiento global’, y es reconocido por abogar ideas sobre la economía circular y el capital natural años antes de que se incluyeron en el discurso generalizado del medio ambiente, además de su implementación de prácticas sostenibles y orgánicas en sus propios hogares.

En 2009, Carlos y su esposa Camila salieron hacia un tour por Sudamérica, el cual tenía como objetivo aprender y destacar el trabajo importante que se realizaba en el continente para combatir el cambio climático. Durante su viaje, el entonces Príncipe y la Princesa de Gales visitaron Ecuador. Antes de viajar a las Islas Galápagos, fueron recibidos en Quito por el entonces vicepresidente Lenin Moreno y el canciller Fander Falconí, donde hablaron de temas medioambientales. Durante su visita a las Islas Galápagos, Carlos visitó la Fundación Charles Darwin para conmemorar el 200 aniversario del nacimiento del científico británico. Allí, aprendió del importante trabajo de conservación que se realizaba en las islas y apadrinó a una tortuga que se llamó William, en honor a su hijo.

A medida que se acerca su coronación oficial, el mundo espera esta celebración simbólica que marcará formalmente el reinado del nuevo Rey Carlos III. • The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund which aims to transform lives and build sustainable communities by awarding grants to a wide range of good causes within its core funding themes: Heritage & Conservation, Education, Health & Wellbeing, Social Inclusion, Environment and Countryside.

In addition to his charitable work, King Charles III is celebrated for his environmental activism and for his efforts to combat climate change, striving for change even when these ideas were still considered radical. He made his first speech on the environment in 1968, seven years before the term ‘global warming’ was coined, and he is recognised for advocating concepts such as the circular economy and natural capital years before they became part of wide-spread environmental discourse, as well as for implementing sustainable and organic practices in his own estates.

In 2009, Charles and his wife Camilla embarked on a tour of South America, with the aim of learning about and highlighting the vital work that was being carried out on the continent to fight climate change. During the trip, the then Prince and Princess of Wales made a visit to Ecuador. Before travelling to the Galapagos Islands, they were first welcomed in Quito by the then vice-president Lenin Moreno and Chancellor Fander Falconí, where they discussed environmental issues. Upon their arrival in the Galapagos, Charles paid a visit to the Charles Darwin Foundation to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of the British scientist. Here, as well as learning about the important conservation work being carried out on the islands, His Royal Highness was named an honorary park ranger and he sponsored a turtle which he named William, after his son.

Celebramos la Asamblea de Socios de la BritChamUIO, donde pudimos contar con la valiosa presencia del señor Embajador del Reino Unido, Chris Campbell, quién presidió la misma.

Posterior a la Asamblea se llevó a cabo nuestro cóctel de fin de año, que tuvo lugar en el Club Unión Quito.

Almuerzo Conversatorio Condavidrutley

Se organizó en conjunto con la Embajada Británica una reunión con el Ministro para las Américas y el Caribe del Reino Unido, David Rutley y el Embajador Chris Campbell. Este encuentro tuvo como objetivo conversar sobre el desarrollo de las energías renovables y las oportunidades comerciales bilaterales entre el Ecuador y el Reino Unido.

El conversatorio: Igualdad de Género en la Transición Energética que tuvo lugar en en el showroom de nuestro socio Mercedes-Benz Quito, contó con el respaldo de importantes organizaciones de igualdad de género como ONUMujeres, Women in Mining Ecuador y Mujeres por Ecuador, además de la presencia de importantes representantes de empresas, gobierno nacional e internacional, instituciones académicas y sociedad civil tales como: Mercedes-Benz, Inchcape, BUPA, Banco ProCredit, SLB, Robalino, Petrogas, Pino Elizalde

Gracias al auspicio de nuestro socio Mercedes-Benz Ecuador, se llevó a cabo un especial Whisky Tasting con socios invitados por la marca en su showroom.

Beefeaterpink Valentines

En colaboración con nuestro socio Scala Shopping se realizó el evento Pink Your Valentines, donde participaron nuestros socios y amigos, gracias al auspicio de El Español, Beefeater y Fever-Tree Tonic.

El objetivo del evento fue visibilizar la importancia de la participación de las mujeres en el sector energético para lograr una transición energética ordenada en el país. Durante el evento, se dio a conocer las experiencias, retos y avances en la implementación de género en el sector para avanzar hacia un futuro energético más equitativo.

EVENTOS BRITCHAMGUAYAQUIL

Gracias a la Embajada Británica Quito y al respaldo de nuestro socio Universidad San Francisco de Quito, la BritChamUIOparticipó del lanzamiento oficial del proyecto “Nature Transitions Support Programme” junto a la Rt Hon Thérèse Coffey MP, Secretaría de Ambiente, Alimentación y Asuntos Rurales del Reino Unido, Gustavo Manrique Miranda, Ministro del Ambiente y Agua del Ecuador, Pablo Arosemena Marriott, Ministro de Economía y Finanzas del Ecuador, y Roque Sevilla, Presidente de Grupo Futuro.

Se realizó el Desayuno Conferencia “Escenarios Económicos y Tributarios 2023-2025” junto con nuestro socio Andersen.

El objetivo del evento fue analizar la situación económica y tributaria actual, así como también las perspectivas para el 2023-2025.

Como expositores tuvimos a: Dr. Pablo Guevara Rodríguez, Senior Partner de Andersen. Econ. Alberto Acosta Burneo, Editor de Análisis Semanal de Grupo Spurrier.
