SYNOPSIS SINOPSIA Basque Country, 1609. The men from the region have gone to sea. Ana is taking part in a party in the woods with some other girls from the village. Judge Rostegui, entrusted by the King to purify the region, arrests the girls and accuses them of witchcraft. He decides to do everything necessary to make them confess what they know about the “Akelarre” a magic ceremony during which the Devil supposedly initiates his female servants and mates them. This project is born out of a feeling of injustice. Almost all works of fiction dealing with the witch hunt perpetuate the misogynistic clichés imposed by the inquisition, suggesting that actual acts of witchcraft were at the origin of the trials and convictions.

In 2008, when I read "The Witch" by Jules Michelet, I discovered a way to claim those free and independent women that the repressive system of the clerical monarchy unjustly condemned to the stake and oblivion. I immediately knew that the theme would be the construction of the myth of the Akelarre. Showing how a judge like Pierre De Lancre induced his prisoners to embody his own ghosts.

During the long development process of the project, I came across many people who couldn't understand which repercussions this story from 1609 could have in the 21st century. Over time, feminist movements came to refresh memories and little by little this report of the stigmatization of women became vital.

SYNOPSIS SINOPSIA Basque Country 2009. Lide (Patricia López Arnáiz) works as a security guard at a high-speed train link construction site, a project that has unleashed a wave of protests. Upon returning home after work and a night of partying, she makes breakfast for two. However, her teenage daughter, Ane, is not home. The following day, she has still not come back. Lide keeps calm. She must have left because of the heated argument they had had the previous day. As she inspects Ane’s belongings though, she realises that her daughter is a perfect stranger to her. Euskadi 2009. Ane is a reflection on communication and how the public sphere influences the private one. Lide is a mother who seeks contact with her daughter. A train line is being built in the street, a construction that aims to communicate spaces but also generates conflicts. Everything influences the most private and intimate level. Personal relationships are conditioned, something that makes communication even more difficult.
Ane komunikazioari eta eremu publikoak pribatuan duen eraginari buruzko gogoeta da. Lide alabarekin harremanetan jarri nahi duen ama bat da. Kalean tren linea bat eraiki da, espazio desberdinak lotu, baina aldi berean gatazkak sortzen dituen obra. Guzti honek eragina du maila pribatu eta intimoenean. The two essential points to generate this communication are shown in the construction of this high-speed train that in its route to connect different cities generates isolation in the spaces that are outside: on both sides of the fractured lands and in the people mobilized in favour and against it. This is a reflection on what is communicated, but especially on what is not transmitted, what doesn't appear in the newspapers and the news.

The film focuses on the home and work environment of a mother, Lide. This domestic environment is represented by an apartment where the daughter is missing, as she hasn't sleep at home, and also by a neighborhood divided in two by a train that will cross it and force the expropriation of homes. Lide works as a security guard in the construction of those train tracks. As an aesthetic proposal, "Ane" tries to investigate the idea of absence and a topic as complex as the search, of the other and of oneself, both on a physical and identity level. This idea of the search implies a dynamic action. However, our character starts, like our movie, from the emptiness. It is in that stillness where the will to change emerges.

SYNOPSIS SINOPSIA A skeleton is found buried at the Garizmendi farmhouse. Fermín and Karmen, call their son Néstor, who reports the matter to the authorities. However, when the police turn up, the bones are gone. Suddenly, the bell on the nearby chapel begins to peal. There they find Fermín lying dead, his shotgun by his side. The incident opens old wounds within the family; the couple’s other son, Aitor (Néstor’s twin brother) also died in tragic circumstances. Karmen blames her brother-in-law Estanis for both deaths. She tries to persuade Néstor that they will be next if they don’t do something about it. Garizmendi baserrian giza hezur batzuk agertzen dira. Located in rural environment, the story takes place in a kind of continuous present, feeding on the 'now' and the 'past' in an analogous way and in the form of a puzzle. Precisely, the fragmented, polyhedral and also polysemic character is one of the attractions of the novel and will also be one of the narrative keys of the film. One of the key questions from the formal aspect will be to approach the past as if it was the present to form a coherent style and avoid digression at all times.
Landa-eremuan kokatuta, historia orainaldi jarraitu antzeko batean gauzatzen da, ‘orainaz’ eta ‘iraganaz’ elikatzen da modu analogoan, eta puzzle edo buru-hausgarri baten forma dauka. "La isla de las mentiras" is a feature film inspired by three unjustly forgotten women. A thriller starring a woman and also created by a woman. A psychological thriller about the scape from pain (the scape forward) and about the shadows –and practically no light– of heroism. A thriller that I tried to tinge with film noir. The themes that the film touches on right now are in the daily debate due to the terrible health crisis caused by COVID-19: heroes who don't want to be considered as such, heroes who are instrumentalized so as not to look the victims face to face, the photograph that is made of a society and of everyone with a terrible tragedy... Because the most interesting thing about this shipwreck are the consequences it has on a microcosm as closed and peculiar as that of the island of Sálvora. In "La isla de las mentiras" we wanted the film to be frenetic, mysterious, at times uncomfortable and visually powerful.
"La isla de las mentiras” (Gezurretako irla) bidegabeki ahaztuak izan ziren hiru emakumeren istorioan oinarritzen da. Emakume bat protagonista duen eta emakume batek gauzatu duen pelikula da hau. Minaren ihesari (aurrerantz ihesaz), heroismoaren iluntasunari eta ia argirik ezari buruzko thriller psikologikoa. Zinema beltz moduan egin nahi nuen thriller bat.
Filmak jorratzen dituen gaiak eguneroko eztabaidan daude, COVID-19ak eragindako osasun-krisi izugarria dela eta: haien burua heroi gisa ikusi nahi ez duten heroiak, biktimak aurrez aurre ez begiratzeko manipulatuak izan diren heroiak, tragedia batek gizartean izan dezakeen eragina… Izan ere, Salvora irlako hain itxia eta berezia den mikrokosmoan naufragio horrek eragiten dituen ondorioak dira film horren atalik interesgarrienak. Eta hori da “La isla de las mentiras” filmatzean lortu nahi genuena: oso erritmo bizkorrekoa, misteriotsua, batzuetan deserosoa eta bisualki oso indartsua den film bat egitea.

SYNOPSIS SINOPSIA Nora is 30 years old, lives with her grandfather Nicolás and takes care of her friend Meri’s children. She writes the horoscope in the village magazine, although her dream is to become a travel writer. After her grandfather’s death, she will inherit an old Dyane 6. Although she drives badly, Nora will start an aimless road trip along the coast of the Basque Country, to take her grandfather’s ashes to her grandmother’s side. The road will soon show her she is not a real traveller and her dream had nothing to do with her; it was just an excuse to give herself a chance to be free, to grow up, to close wounds and to be happy for the first time. NORA is summer, an old car, a journey through the Basque Country, the sea, freedom, the little things of life... and above all, it’s a girl looking for her place in the world. NORA is born out of the need to talk about an interval in life where an imperceptible change takes place in us. A change that gives us the opportunity to achieve our dreams. I like to think about NORA as an anti-road trip, which has fun crossing the gender boundaries, leaving the epic aside and playing with the idea that a small trip can change your life. I have created scenes that maintain an organic balance between light and dense, between happy and sad, between fast and slow. The basic ingredient to make them has been the everyday actions: laughing always at the same joke with your grandfather, eating vegetables straight from the orchard, dancing to the summer song, paddle surfing, giving an apple to a donkey... The acting based on improvisations of the actresses and actors has turned the characters written by me into interesting people for the audience, as well as the hard to reach places we have chosen to film, make the film a visual gift and a discovery. NORA is a film to let ourselves go and travel by the hand of our main character in a rickety car. It is a song of freedom and a reflection of what really makes us happy. For me, NORA is a small rebellion, a nice and gentle wake-up call for us to be brave and dare to live life without fear.
NORA uda da, kotxe zahar bat, Euskal Herrian zehar bidaia bat, itsasoa, askatasuna, bizitzako detaile txikiak... baina batez ere, neska bat munduan bere tokia bilatzen. NORA gure bizitzetan bira eman eta aldatzera eramaten gaituen norberaren aldaketa ia hautemanezin bat gertatzen deneko momentuari buruz hitz egin beharretik sortzen da. Gure ametsak betetzeko aukera ematen digun aldaketa. NORA anti-road trip bat dela pentsatzea gustatzen zait, generoaren mugak gainditzea gustoko duena, epika alde batera utzita eta bidaia txiki batek bizitza aldatu ahal dizula ideiarekin jolasten. Gai arin eta sakonen arteko oreka organikoa mantentzea lortzen duten eszenak sortu ditut, alaitasuna eta tristetasunaren artekoa, geldotasuna eta arintasunaren artekoa. When I decided to make this film, I had one thing clear; In spite of the enormous interest that making “the documentary” of Barricada could arouse, we were not going to make a work about this band. Actually, I didn’t even want to make a music film. Rather, I wanted to make a documentary about a character, Enrique Villarreal, El Drogas. An endearing and charismatic person with an imposing physical presence who combines his condition as a loving grandfather with that of a revered rocker who works tirelessly despite being almost 60 years old. A man, moreover, with an activity as intense as it is diverse: he writes poetry; composes, records and plays music; divulges historical memory; collaborates with Alzheimer’s or Down’s syndrome... And with an incredible career behind him marked by success and betrayal. Without a doubt, Enrique is a great character. Drugs is a key figure in the history of Spanish rock. For more than three decades he has been a star as the leader of Barricada until his traumatic departure from the group, when one chapter of success in state rock closes and another opens, like El Drogas. Paradoxically, already close to old age, El Drogas projects a much freer and more daring discourse. After a life governed by coherence, Villarreal continues to live according to ideas that are more combative than ever. For this reason, he is one of the most respected personalities in the world of culture in the country. And our perfect candidate to tell a universal story, where success and failure will not be the most important thing.

My sister Amaia and I left home very young to live far from our parents, Kontxi and IĂąaki. Despite time and distance, we have remained a very close family. Given that Amaia and I are close to turning 50 and neither of us have had children, the nuclear family continues to revolve around our parents. For years I have felt a growing anguish at the idea of losing them.
Nire arreba Amaia eta biok oso gazte ginela gurasoengandik, Kontxi eta IĂąaki, urrun bizitzera joan ginen. Denbora eta distantzia gorabehera, oso familia gertua izaten jarraitu dugu. Amaiak eta biok 50 urte betetzear gaudenez eta bietako batek ere ez duenez seme-alabarik izan, familiaren erdigunea gure gurasoek osatzen jarraitzen dute. Duela urte batzuetatik, gero eta gehiago larritzen nau haiek galtzeko ideiak.
In June 2015 we got together to celebrate their golden anniversary on a cruise trip. When I discovered the name of the huge ship, I knew immediately that I would title this movie with the same name: FANTASIA. With the complicity of my sister I committed a mischief: hiding from our parents the real reason why I would record the holidays, making them think that it would be a simple family video that we would keep just for ourselves. That winter I went alone to spend Christmas with our parents and took the camera again. The idea was to complete the portrait that I had started in that idyllic space, in FANTASIA, as a counterpoint to the reality of old age and everyday life at home.
2015eko ekainean, itsas bidaia batean urrezko ezteiak ospatzeko elkartu ginen. Itsasontzi erraldoiaren izena ikusi nuenean, berehala jakin nuen film honi ere izenburua emango ziola: FANTASIA. Nire ahizparen laguntzarekin bihurrikeria bat egin nuen: gure gurasoei oporrak grabatzearen benetako arrazoia ezkutatu nien, guretzat bakarrik gordeko genuen bideo familiarra izango zela pentsaraziz. Negu hartan Gabonak gurasoekin pasatzera joan nintzen, eta kamera eraman nuen berriro. Ideia: FANTASIA-ren espazio idiliko hartan hasitako erretratua osatzea, zahartzaroaren eta haien etxeko egunerokotasunaren errealitateari kontrajarrita.
For a time I kept hiding the real reason why I was chasing them with my camera through the confines of their privacy. They were not safe, neither clothed nor naked, neither in their cuddles nor in their arguments, neither in health nor on the gurney in an operating room. When I finally confessed to them that I was making a documentary film in which they were the protagonists, they continued to behave with the naturalness of someone who has already accepted the camera as another guest. The game went on for four years.
Denbora batez, haien intimitatea kamerarekin arakatzeko benetako arrazoia zein zen ezkutatu nien. Ez zeuden salbu jantzita, ez biluzik, ez fereketan, ez ohiko eztabaidetan, ez osasunean, ez ebakuntza-gelako ohatilan. Documentary feature film where current reference basque artists and belonging to different artistic disciplines, but with the common link of working on the contemporary while using traditional techniques and forms, explain to us how complicated it is precisely to work the contemporary, which is often not considered as art. Art must be felt and enjoyed, like wine. You don’t have to be an expert to do this. Carrying out these initiatives requires a lot of time and effort that normally does not go hand in hand with the compensation obtained in return. Work close to that of the artist, efforts and commitment that rarely make it possible to survive from work, but still do not make our and our protagonists throw in the towel.

SYNOPSIS SINOPSIA On the night of 15 October 2016 a fight takes place in a bar in Alsasua (Navarra). Two off-duty civil guards are injured and 8 young people are accused of terrorism. The prosecutor asks for a total of 375 years in prison for the 8 accused, raising many critical voices because the demands of the sentences are totally disproportionate and there are no signs of terrorism in the case. This event will change the life of the people forever and will lead to a long judicial process. This documentary is the story of the struggle of these families against the great judicial and media machinery from which they cannot escape. 2016ko urriaren 15eko goizaldean liskar bat gertatu zen Altsasuko taberna batean; guardia zibil teniente bi zaurituak izan ziren eta 8 gazteei terrorismo delitua leporatu zitzaien. Fiskalak, 375 urteko espetxe zigorra eskatu zuen zortzi auziperatuentzat. This journey begins in the year 2016 when the name of the town of Altsasu begins to appear in the media as a result of a fight between young people from the town and two off-duty policemen. I am very shocked by the 375-year-old prosecutor’s request for terrorism, when the most serious injury on record is a broken ankle. I call my friend Amets, he is an expert in Basque culture and I thought that his profile could give an interesting poetic dimension to a documentary with social and investigative content. As journalists and documentary filmmakers, we decided that we had to approach Altsasu and tell what was happening. We wanted to know the story first-hand, in a process that would unknowingly take three years. In this way, we managed to introduce ourselves into the life and daily life of the people who are living trapped in this conflict, following them intimately and closely with the intention of telling the universal and, at the same time, particular story of Altsasu. The Altsasu trial has many things that affect us all as human beings: the extensive use of the concept of terrorism, the growing governmental authoritarianism, the relationship between police and judiciary and the abuse of power.

6 friends return to prison where they were held captive, twenty years later. A strange relationship of love and hatred unites them to it; there they spent moments of hardship, but they also fought for a fairer world and, somehow, they came out victorious. This film tells the story of those six men who were committed to the struggle against compulsory military service and they entered prison without knowing that this experience would change their lives forever. But there is also the periphery of that story, which was left out of the chronicles, that of the women who fought with them: mothers, sisters and activists. It is not, however, a self-complacent account, but a reflection that connects the past with the future, and raises the question of how society can be organized for a more just world through non-violent resistance.

Endika is serving a sentence for participating in street violence. Aiur has only met his father while in prison. They have two ways of communicating: a monthly visit and fiveminute phone calls. But after 15 years in prison, Endika will soon be released. This documentary will show the last months before Endika gets out of prison, and will try to understand how relationships are built between an absent father and his son. Aiurrek 6 urte bete ditu. Years ago, my sister Maitane asked me to edit a wedding video for her friend Araitz. The order was not simple, there were almost no images of the weding, I mean, there was no exchange of rings and bridal bouquets in the air. The ceremony took place inside a prison. Araitz’s boyfriend was sentenced to 15 years in prison for burning an ATM and he was serving time in a prison away from home. The fact of getting married allowed them to have intimate visits. In one of them, Aiur, the protagonist of this story, was conceived. Since I made that video, I have not stopped asking my sister about that family, about that child. I was curious about how the bonds between father and son are built. How Aiur lives the absence, at least physical, of his father. Aiur imagines his father just as much as Endika imagines her son. They build each other through Araitz, who is the person who mediates between them, the one who takes care of them. The trigger that encouraged me to start the recordings was an event: after serving his sentence, Endika, Aiur’s father, was to be released. I had no doubts, it was time to make the film. My intention is to approach the conflict from the point of view of a child. To make a portrait of this father-son relationship. To know the intimacy, the daily life of this family, its daily life. Capture the conversations, the sensations of the characters, delve into the human side of the conflict. I don’t intend to judge why Endika has been in prison.

SYNOPSIS SINOPSIA Lucía was 17 years old in 2008 and played in the Getafe wheelchair basketball team. She was the youngest member and the only woman on the team until Vicky (21) joined. Ten years later, Vicky and Lucía were both in the Spanish Women’s Team. They trained together with the other players to take part in the World Championships, for the first time in 24 years. In 2019 the team managed to be classified for the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo. Five months before travelling to Tokyo, the global health crisis has halted Lucia’s and Vicky’s dreams for yet another year.

Zinegoak, Bilbao International LGTB+ film festival was launched in 2004. The aim is to bring to the Basque audience a type of cinema that is independent, social and vindicatory, that is entirely absent from the Basque comercial circuit. Its end: to denounce the violation of Human Rights on the LGTB+ community all over the globe, to show the sexual and affective diversity and to become a meeting point throughout high-quality films. It has become one of the most important European LGBT+ film festivals, with an average of 10.000 people attending its dozen venues and 100 films programmed, only in Bilbao. It also curates cinema and awareness-raising activities throughout Basque Country.
Organised by the Office of Human Rights of the city of San Sebastian and Donostia Kultura, its objective is to promote the debate and the reflection and to raise the audience awareness about the violation of the human rights in all the world through the universal language of cinema. So, the Festival aspires to inform and to form the citizens through a program as attractive as possible.
Zinegoak 2004an jaio zen Bilboko eta Euskadiko ikusleei zinema independentea, soziala eta aldarrikatzailea eskaintzeko asmoz, erakusketa komertzialaren zirkuituan ez delako aurkitzen horrelakorik. A high-mountain festival at sea level. In December, Bilbao is full of alpinists, adventurers, sport men, filmmakers, producers and artists of international renown. Since its beginning in 2008, BBK Mendi Film Bilbao-Bizkaia Festival has become one of the international benchmarks within the series of film festivals related to mountaineering, climbing, adventure and extreme sports. It has also become, in record time, one of the main lures within the sector. But Mendi Film is way more than just cinema. Due to the numerous parallel activities, it keeps growing every year and bringing to everybody's reach creativity, inspiration, spreading, training and, above all, fun.
CORTADA is a short film festival that started in 1997 that takes place in the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz. Sponsored by the Campus of Alava in the Basque Country University (UPV / EHU) and VITAL Fundazioa, is a national contest that rewards works of fiction, animation and documentary, not forgetting the local proposals GUREAK grouped in sections (Basque shorts official) and HEMENGOAK (Basque shorts not official). From the 2015 edition CORTADA festival qualifies for Goya Awards by Spanish Cinema Academy, and ForquĂŠ Awards, by EGEDA. In 2020 the contest is held from 16 to 19 December.
Mendi goietako festibala itsas mailan. Mundu mailako sona duten alpinistak, abenturazaleak, kirolariak, zinegileak, ekoizleak eta artistak biltzen dira abenduan BBK Mendi Film Bilbao-Bizkaia Jaialdian. 2008an abiatu zen, eta mendia, eskalada, abentura eta muturreko kirolen gaiak jorratzen dituzten festibalen nazioarteko erreferente nagusienetakoa da gaur egun. International Alliance for Mountain Film (IAMF) elkargoko kide da Mendi Film. Zineaz batera beste hainbat jarduera eskaintzen dituen festibala da, eskaintza zabala, eta horrek egiten du gaitegi horretako nazioarteko ardatz. Sormena, inspirazioa, dibulgazioa, formazioa, eta batez ere, dibertsioa jartzen ditu bisitarien eskura.
CORTADA 1997 urtean hasitako VitoriaGasteizko film laburren jaialdia da. UPV/ EHUko Arabako Campuseko eta VITAL Fundazioko babesarekin antolatuta. Film labur nazionalentzako zuzenduta dagoen jaialdia da. Animazio, Dokumental eta Fikziozko lanak onartuta daude, hemengo lanak ahaztu gabe: GUREAK (Euskal Film Labur ofizialak) eta HEMENGOAK (Euskal Film Laburrak ez ofizialak). 2015 urteko ediziotik espainiar zinemaren Goya Sarietarako eta EGEDAren ForquĂŠ Sarietarako jaialdi kalifikatzailea da CORTADA. 2020ko edizioa abenduaren 16tik 19ra ospatuko da.
