SYNOPSIS SINOPSIS Gloria (Anne Hathaway) is an outof-work party girl who, after getting kicked out of her apartment by her boyfriend, is forced to leave her life in New York and move back to her hometown. When news reports surface that a giant creature is destroying Seoul, South Korea, Gloria gradually comes to the realization that she is somehow connected to this far-off phenomenon. As events begin to spin out of control, Gloria must determine why her seemingly insignificant existence has such a colossal effect on the fate of the world. COLOSSAL is a movie in which a universally recognizable story is told through a collision of genres that is, a priori, impossible. On one hand, it reflects the comical romanticism presented by American independent film over the last three decades. On the other hand, it refers to kaiju monster movies from Japan, which have become icons of fantastic and catastrophic cinema — definitively bigger than life. Anne Hathaway plays Gloria, a woman faced with sentimental and professional failure who seeks refuge in the town where she grew up, a situation that puts her in an even deeper hole. In the first half of the film, Gloria meets Oscar, played by Jason Sudeikis, a friend from elementary school who becomes a source of financial and emotional support. Many in the audience will come to think this is a story about two people being romantically reunited. But Gloria and Oscar defy the expectations of their characters and venture into territories that will be surprising to their respective fans. All of this without mentioning the giant monster that is attacking the city of Seoul in South Korea! As the relationship develops between Gloria, Oscar and the creature in Seoul, the true nature of this story becomes revealed. COLOSSAL examines how the size of someone’s actions does not have to match the size of its consequences. Gloria learns in a terrible and surprising way the scale of her mistakes. And she discovers that in order to solve her problems she will have to grow — in every way
COLOSSAL es una película en la que una historia universalmente reconocible se cuenta a través de una colisión de género que es, a priori, imposible. Por un lado, refleja el romanticismo cómico presentado por el cine americano independiente durante las últimas tres décadas. Por otro lado, se refiere a las películas de los monstruos kaiju de Japón, que se han convertido en fantásticos y catastróficos iconos de películas - definitivamente más grandes que la vida. Anne Hathaway interpreta a Gloria, una mujer que se enfrenta a un fracaso sentimental y profesional que busca refugio en la ciudad donde creció, situación que la coloca en un agujero aún más profundo. En la primera mitad de la película, Gloria conoce a Oscar, interpretado por Jason Sudeikis, un amigo de la escuela primaria que se convierte en una fuente de apoyo financiero y emocional. ERREMENTARI (The Blacksmith and the Devil) is a film in Basque language, inspired by a popular traditional Basque folk tale titled “Patxi Errementaria” In turn, it belongs to a compendium of European stories and fables that narrate the trials and tribulations suffered by one poor demon or another in their disastrous attempts to capture human souls. Is a story of dark fantasy, humour and sentiments of grudge and forgiveness. With a esthetic that is both sinister and magical: shadowy figures etched against a backdrop of fire. It’s a place where natural settings acquire a darker taint: the imposing blacksmith’s workshop crammed full of twisted iron, the deep mist-filled forests of our land and the Dantesque gates of hell.
ERREMENTARI (El herrero y el diablo) es una Película en Euskera, de imagen real e inspirada en un cuento popular tradicional del País Vasco. Un relato que a su vez pertenece a un compendio de cuentos y fábulas europeas, que narran las burlas y escarnios que sufren los pobres diablos al fracasar en el intento de capturar las almas humanas. Se trata de una historia rural de género fantástico con pinceladas de terror y humor negro. Miguel Joaquín grew up in a very conservative rural environment in a core of a large family (nine siblings). Shortly after reaching the age of twenty he developed a deadly illness which had an unexpected effect on his young body: he started growing out of control. And he never stopped growing until the day he died. He grew gradually in size until he reached, at the end of his life, the height of eight feet. This made him the tallest man of his time. And for this reason, the humble man from a small town would later be received by the royal families of Spain, Portugal, France and England. But beyond the annals of history, what makes this character most attractive is his introspective quality. In particular, one of his most remarkable attributes is the fact that he never stopped growing. How would Miguel Joaquín handle this phenomenon? We want to put ourselves in the shoes of a boy who one day found out that his size was going to gradually increase and see how he manages such an experience. How what at first was pleasing news slowly became frustrating, troublesome and later distressing with the awareness that his growth was not normal. We want to experience this alongside him and feel the tension and astonishment with which Miguel Joaquín and those close to him manage such a situation. Will he ever stop growing?
Nadie crece eternamente ¿o sí? Cierto es que la gran mayoría de nosotros pegamos el estirón en la adolescencia y para cuando entramos en la edad adulta nos estancamos en una estatura, para volver a menguar (en la mayoría de los casos) al final de nuestras vidas. No obstante, de manera excepcional, hay a quien le sucede lo contrario: empieza a crecer desmesuradamente en ese preciso momento en el que el resto dejamos de hacerlo y no se detiene hasta el día de su muerte. Es lo que puede llegar a suceder a aquéllos que padecen un cierto tipo de acromegalia, si no es tratado debidamente. A pesar de que entonces se desconocería la causa, muy posiblemente éste sería el caso de Miguel Joaquín Eleizegi, nacido en 1818 en Altzo, un pequeño pueblo de Gipuzkoa. De él se dice que a los 20 años contrajo una enfermedad que le hizo crecer de manera imparable a lo largo de toda su vida, llegando a convertirse en el hombre más alto de su tiempo. Su fama se disparó rápidamente y fue exhibido por media Europa para que la gente pudiese admirar su imponente talla. Cabría imaginar que Joaquín dejó de crecer en el momento de su muerte, el 20 de noviembre de 1861. Pero nada más lejos de la realidad: curiosamente, una vez enterrado siguió creciendo, aunque solo fuera de manera figurada. Sus andanzas y su figura se transmitieron de boca en boca, y se iban haciendo más y más grandes de una manera imparable. Porque para entonces “El Gigante de Altzo” se había convertido ya en un mito, y algunos mitos sí crecen eternamente.

SYNOPSIS SINOPSIS Near the end of the Spanish War, a “trigger happy” fascist soldier turns into a strange hermit. The most delightful thing for a director is to be provided with a good story and a good casting to entertain the audience. In “The Bastards Fig Tree” I have the fortune of having both, an excellent novel written by Ramiro Pinilla, hard and crazy at the same time, and a troup of amazing actors. Karra Elejalde, in an incredible moment, has found in the character of Rogelio his match to gift us with one of those wonderful performances that movie making holds from time to time.
El mayor placer de un director es contar con una buena historia y un buen casting con el que entretener al público. En “La higuera de los bastardos” he tenido la fortuna de contar con ambas cosas. Una excelente novela de Ramiro Pinilla, dura y delirante a la vez y un reparto excepcional, con un Karra Elejalde en un momento increíble, que ha encontrado en su personaje Rogelio la horma para regalarnos una de esas felices y únicas interpretaciones que el cine nos depara de tanto en cuando.

Life is full of lies and statistics. But, in the words of an old friend who adores classic films, cinema lies don’t fool anyone. The world needs stories like this one, positively and frankly transmitting a lust for life. And it has the two features that are key to any successful film: a good script, and good actors. Operation Golden Shell is a fast-paced scam comedy with all the essential ingredients of the genre: unscrupulous villains and naive innocents, scammers and victims, deceit, betrayal, suspense, love.... all set against the backdrop of the world of cinema. Here the boundaries between truth and lies becomes blurred. The plot —such an essential feature in this genre— offers twists and double twists, without eclipsing the most important element of all: the strength and appeal of the extraordinarily well-developed characters. In an era of superficiality, predictability and statistics, where shallowness has become the order of the day in the media and on social networks, we want to pay a simple homage to the world of show business; to the men and woman who make up that world, their fragility, their aspirations and their need for love. This is an exciting project, because it is always exciting to combine great commercial potential with a captivating character-driven story. Our heroes are swindlers, a bit devious perhaps, but they only break the law because of their passion for their work. And in the end, as in all great movie stories, they inevitably get caught in the nets of love. This is a film full of beautiful lies— lies that fool no one, just like those classic films so beloved by my old friend.
La vida está llena de mentiras y de estadísticas. Pero las mentiras del Cine no engañan a nadie, como dice un viejo amigo que adora esas películas de siempre. Se necesitan historias como ésta, que transmite, de manera positiva y honesta, ganas de vivir. Y este propósito se fundamenta en las dos claves que hacen siempre que las películas funcionen: un buen guion, y unos buenos actores. Operación Concha es una trepidante comedia de timadores con todos los ingredientes del género: canallas e ingenuos, estafadores y estafados, engaños, traiciones, suspense, amor.... y el Cine como telón de fondo. Aquí verdad y mentira desdibujan sus fronteras, la trama, importante en este tipo de género, sorprende con sus giros y dobles giros, pero permite que brille y destaque lo más importante y prioritario: La fuerza y el atractivo de los personajes extraordinariamente bien construidos. En un tiempo de superficialidad, previsible y estadísticas, donde la nadería se instala en medios audiovisuales y en redes sociales, queremos hacer un sencillo homenaje al mundo del espectáculo. A los seres humanos que forman parte de ese mundo, a su fragilidad, sus aspiraciones y su necesidad de afecto. Esta película es apasionante porque apasionante es aunar su gran potencial comercial, con su condición de historia de personajes que atrapan. Ellos son estafadores y algo canallas, pero quebrantan la ley por la pasión a su oficio para caer, finalmente, en algo que siempre está en la grandes historias del Cine, en las redes del amor. Un film lleno de bellas mentiras. Esas que no engañan a nadie, como aquellas películas de siempre que adoraba un viejo amigo...

In the genesis of “Escape Plan” the main guideline was always to make an entertainment film. My intuition led me to suspense, but the accidental viewing of a feature film, directed me definitely towards one of its subgenres, the movies of thefts. As always, in any argument that orbits around money makes mixed feelings arise. Moments of loyalty and betrayal. Moments of friendship and envy. The highest and the lowest of the human being, purity against the material. And it was here, in this last stretch of construction, where the emotional seed appeared to create the characters: the duality. In the midst of this confrontation between the good and the bad, two protagonists arose who are essentially the same but with very disparate lots. One, fortunate with his life, who is on the supposedly correct side of the law. Another, with a worse destiny, that is immersed in a criminal world. The feature that struck me when I was gestating my story, was Dassin’s “Rififi.” The interest aroused by the robbery, the emotionality of its characters, the drama of its end. I wanted, humbly and within my possibilities, to work with such material, so disparate and so coherent. I think it’s what I like most about suspense. You can build a script pretty much the other way around. Starting with the roof, its shape and reaching the end to its foundations, its core, its characters. Strategies that in a purer, more direct drama would be difficult to play. And that may be the most appropriate word, play, have fun and therefore entertain.
En la génesis de “Plan de Fuga” la principal directriz fue siempre hacer una película de entretenimiento. Mi intuición me llevaba hacia el suspense, pero el visionado accidental de un largometraje, me dirigió definitivamente hacia uno de sus subgéneros, las películas de robos. Como siempre, en cualquier argumento que orbita sobre el dinero surgen sentimientos encontrados. Momentos de lealtad y de traición. Momentos de amistad y envidia. Lo más alto y lo más bajo del ser humano, la pureza contra lo material. Y fue aquí, en este último tramo de la construcción, donde asomó la semilla emocional para crear los personajes, la dualidad. En medio de este enfrentamiento entre lo bueno y lo malo, surgieron dos protagonistas que son en esencia el mismo pero con suertes muy dispares. Uno, afortunado con su vida, que está en el lado supuestamente correcto de la ley. Otro, con un destino peor, que se encuentra inmerso en un mundo delictivo. El largometraje que me impactó cuando estaba gestando mi historia, fue “Rififi” de Dassin. El interés que despierta el atraco, la emotividad de sus personajes, el dramatismo de su final. Me apetecía, humildemente y dentro de mis posibilidades, trabajar con un material así, tan dispar y tan coherente. Creo que es lo que más me gusta del cine de suspense. Puedes construir un guión prácticamente al revés. Comenzando por el tejado, por su forma y llegando al final a sus cimientos, a su núcleo, a sus personajes. Estrategias que en un drama, más puro, más directo serían difíciles de jugar. Y puede que esa sea la palabra más adecuada, jugar, divertirse y por lo tanto, entretener.

«Who can say they have never dreamed of discovering a lost city?». Just listening to this sentence from Miguel Gutiérrez-Garitano was enough to convince me that I should make a documentary about this dreamer. At that time, Miguel was preparing his Peruvian expedition, and he inevitably conveyed how exciting this adventure could be. As a tireless traveller, he represents the survival of an adventurous spirit still eager to discover new experiences. In today’s world, it may be difficult to believe that there
are still places to be discovered. Well, that is absolutely the case. Miguel, as a writer, always tries to encourage his readers to live their dreams and follow their wishes. Because our world, which belongs to all of us, is still a place to which the motto of La Exploradora (a society founded by Manuel Iradier in the 19th century, and that Miguel pursued in his Peruvian adventure) can be applied: «Discover the unknown».

SYNOPSIS SINOPSIS 1938. Barcelona in the midst of a civil war. A group of artists makes a musical and surrealist movie. The roll of film of that movie disappeared when, a few months after having dreamed of a fantastic world, reality, in the form of defeat, crushed any illusion. Gerardo Lizarraga, painter, artist and one of those responsable people for that crazy story, crossed the border in 1939. Lot of projects stayed behind. Sometimes someone else reaped the fruits. Sometimes they got lost without retrieval. By chance, while he was imprisoned in the french camps, someone paid attention to him and filmed him. En 1938, en Barcelona, en plena guerra civil, un grupo de creadores y artistas realiza una película musical y surrealista. Aquel negativo desapareció porque, pocos meses después de haber soñado con un mundo fantástico, la realidad en forma de derrota aplastó cualquier ilusión. Gerardo Lizarraga, pintor, artista y uno de los responsables de aquella historia descabellada, cruzó la frontera en 1939. Atrás quedaban proyectos de los que otros recogerían los frutos o que se perderían irremediablemente. El azar hizo que, mientras permanecía prisionero en los campos franceses, alguien se fijara en él y lo filmara.

Estrellado is a painstaking project of searching and also of advocacy. Painstaking because the character at the centre of the story might almost be considered to be invisible, despite the fact that at 77, he has spent almost his entire life constantly creating art. Rescuing him from oblivion has meant trawling through archives that sometimes yielded little or nothing, making it necessary to redirect the investigations. As a result, the word “quest” has been a constant, not only in the preliminary documentation, but also during editing and recreation. Estrellado champions a forgotten artist, one who could serve as an example of so many other people of his time, suffering the consequences of the Spanish Civil War, the Second World War and exile; yet he also represents all those artists from different periods and places whose memory has been almost entirely erased by history and circumstance. Gerardo Lizarraga, the artist at the centre of this film, never felt he lacked a guiding star, just that he had been born under an unlucky star. His murals were toppled by earthquakes in Mexico, his films disappeared and fate prevented his work from ever achieving the fame it deserved. However, in all his work, he has left something behind, footprints which this documentary has managed to trace. Amidst a crowd of a hundred thousand refugees, someone took his picture at the camp in Argelès-sur-Mer; someone else mentioned him in their memoirs, remembering him as a basic, upright person; and someone else allowed him to reinvent himself in a legendary Hollywood movie.
ESTRELLADO es un proyecto laborioso, de búsqueda y también de reivindicación. Laborioso porque el personaje que centra la historia podría considerarse un desaparecido, a pesar de haber permanecido durante sus 77 años de vida en continua labor creativa. Por ese motivo rescatarlo de donde lo había colocado el olvido ha supuesto tener que rastrear en archivos de los que, en multitud de ocasiones, no se obtenía nada o muy poco y había que volver a redirigir la investigación. De ahí que haya sido también la palabra búsqueda una constante en el trabajo previo de documentación, pero también en el de montaje y recreación. Además ESTRELLADO supone la revindicación de un creador olvidado, como tantos, y que podría ejemplificar a gente de su tiempo, que padeció las consecuencias de la guerra civil, la II guerra mundial y el exilio, pero que también representa a creadores de cualquier época y lugar a los que la historia y las circunstancias han borrado casi por completo. Gerardo Lizarraga, el artista protagonista de este trabajo, no pensaba que no tuviera estrella sino, simplemente, que había nacido estrellado. Por eso sus murales caían abatidos por los terremotos en México, sus películas desaparecían y los vaivenes del destino no dejaban que su obra despegara con la fuerza que se le auguraba. Sin embargo, en todo lo que hizo fue dejando una huella que este documental ha ido siguiendo. Alguien lo retrató en el campo de Argelés, entre una multitud de cien mil personas, alguien habló de él en sus memorias y lo recordó como una persona íntegra y fundamental, y alguien le dejó reinventarse en una mítica película de Hollywood.

Mothertongue develops within the relationship of two different processes being one, the main characters voyage after traces of his deceased father, and the other the attempt to accomplish an audio-visual work based on that search. The interweaving of these two explores issues related to time, oblivion, imagination, language and identity. The protagonist has the vital urge to find out about the women that wrote the letters his father left him as inheritance. Some are old and live far away but it has to be done before it is too late. The conversations with each of them will make that that initial urge in the beginning of the adventure of Mothertongue to register for the future some historical testimonies, becomes, more so, the wish to open a space and a time for the experience of telling. With a fragile, hypothetical and open narrative, Mothertongue is thought of as an unfinished process/tale that accompanies the main character in a voyage in search for signs of his father’s past. There might be a turn from an identity tied to the past, to the truth and to the language, to an identity not tied but in transit, where memory and imagination are at play. An identity, perhaps like the trace of an ephemeral footprint on a white landscape: always a beginning, always an erasure over the past.
Mothertongue se desarrolla en la relación de dos caminos siendo uno el viaje del protagonista en busca del padre ya fallecido y el otro, la tentativa de realización de una pieza audiovisual basada en dicha búsqueda. El entretejido de ambos procesos explora cuestiones relacionadas con el tiempo, el olvido, la imaginación, la lengua y la identidad. El protagonista siente la necesidad vital de partir en busca de aquellas mujeres que escribieron las cartas que su padre le dejó en herencia. Sus compromisos profesionales y cotidianos y la lejanía geográfica suponen una dificultad pero el tiempo apremia debido a la edad avanzada y frágil salud de algunas de ellas. Las conversaciones con cada una de ellas harán que aquel “querer embalsamar un testimonio histórico para el futuro” del principio de la aventura de Mothertongue devenga más bien un querer abrir un espacio y un tiempo para la experiencia del contar.

SYNOPSIS SINOPSIS After the Spanish civil war (1936-39), thousands of men and hundreds of fishing boats filled the busy docks. These would cross the Atlantic Ocean from the ports in the North of Spain to the Canadian waters and Greenland. Here they would labor for months at a time under terrible conditions to fill the hulls of their ever-growing ships with cod, before bringing the salted fish back to the docks at home. These were the golden years of the cod fishery, especially the ‘50’s, ‘60’s and ‘70’s. Until it all came crashing down, wiping out the powerful Spanish cod fleet and laying off thousands of fishermen during the ‘80’s and ‘90’s. What happened? Tras la guerra civil española un gran número de hombres cruzaban el Atlántico desde los puertos de Pasajes y Galicia rumbo a las costas de Terranova. Allí faenaban durante meses bajo condiciones terribles para llenar de bacalao las bodegas de sus barcos. Fueron los años dorados de la pesca del bacalao, especialmente las décadas de los 50 a los 70. Hasta que todo se vino abajo, las capturas comenzaron a escasear a finales de los 70, en 1977 Canadá declaró las 200 millas marinas y en 1992 se estableció la veda de la pesca del bacalao, que todavía se mantiene. Todo ello provocó el colapso de la flota bacaladera y dejó sin trabajo a miles de personas.

SYNOPSIS SINOPSIS Aitor was born in Zarautz, and from a very young age he became interested in the sea and in surfing. When he was only fourteen he lost vision in his right eye due to a congenital glaucoma. The doctors recommended that he quitted surfing, but Aitor decided not to follow their advice and he lost his sight in a fateful accident while he was surfing. He was 39 years old. Far from giving up, Aitor learned to get about with autonomy and he went back to surfing again. Today, 5 years after his accident, Aitor will face one of the most difficult and dangerous challenges of his life: surfing one of the biggest waves in Europe.

SYNOPSIS SINOPSIS On 3 March, 1976, following a long strike, five workers were killed by police in Vitoria. Begoña, a young middle class woman, is an eye witness to the events that send shock waves through this “city where nothing ever happens”. As the conflict becomes increasingly heated, she and her family are forced to take sides. Following the massacre, Begoña, the city, and the country at large will never be the same again. Euxebi’s father was killed during the war. In her youth, Euxebi suffered Francoist repression and, to this day, despite the fact that the dictatorship ended long ago, she has not had the change to recover the memory of her father. After many years, when they finally open the grave where he is, Euxebi puts a picture next to his bones. Al padre de Euxebi lo mataron durante la guerra. The Official Selection presents a selection of the most recent and unseen feature films made worldwide in the last year, all in competition for the Golden Shell and for the rest of the Official awards. In addition, The New Directors competition exhibits first works made by filmmakers across the world, and Horizontes Latinos shows the best Latin American feature films. Organised by Donostia Kultura, the Horror and Fantasy Film Festival took its fi rst steps in 1990. Horror movies, sci-fi , animation, short films, classics from all over the world… alternate with shows, exhibitions, concerts, comic-book encounters, edition of books… The Old Town becomes during some days in a big horror party.
Organised by the Underwater Activities Section of the Real Sociedad Donostia - San Sebastian since 1975, the objective of the International Submarine Film Series is to show the audience the wonders of the submarine world that surround us in this blue world, and divers can see and enjoy. The program includes conferences by submarine filming professionals and underwater field experts.
Zinegoak, the Bilbao International Gay-Lesbian-Trans Film Festival was launched in 2004. The aim is to bring to a Bilbao audience (and a wider Basque one) a type of cinema that is independent, social and vindicatory that is entirely absent from the Basque commercial circuit. Its end: denounce the violation of Human Rights on the LGTB community all over the globe, show the sexual and affective diversity and become a meeting point throughout high-quality films. At this moment, it has become one of the most important European LGTB film festivals, with an average of 10.000 people attending its dozen venues and 100 films programmed, only in Bilbao. It also creates cinema and awareness-raising activities in over 30 towns throughout Basque Country.

Cine de terror, ciencia ficción, animación, cortometrajes, clásicos de todo el mundo… se alternan en su programación con espectáculos teatrales, exposiciones, conciertos, jornadas del cómic, edición de libros… La Parte Vieja de la ciudad se convierte durante unos días en una fiesta.
Organizado por la Sección de Actividades Subacuáticas de la Real Sociedad de Fútbol de Donostia - San Sebastián desde 1975, el Ciclo Internacional de Cine Submarino intenta acercar al público las bellezas que disfrutan los buceadores en el fondo del mar y que nos rodean en este Mundo Azul. Además de la proyección de documentales y películas de temática submarina, se organizan ponencias por parte de profesionales del sector de la imagen submarina y del entorno marino en general.
Zinegoak nació en 2004 con el firme propósito de acercar al público bilbaíno y del resto de Euskadi, cine independiente, social y reivindicativo muy habitualmente ausente del circuito de exhibición comercial. Su objetivo: denunciar la violación de DDHH de la población LGTB en todo el mundo, mostrar la diversidad afectivo-sexual, y ser punto de encuentro a través del cine de calidad. Se trata de uno de los festivales LGTB más importantes del panorama Europeo. Con una audiencia cercana a los 10.000 espectadores, cuenta con una docena de sedes en Bilbao, alrededor de 100 obras proyectadas, y actividades de cine y sensibilización por más de 30 poblaciones de todo Euskadi.

Originally born in 1994 as a film exhibition by the hand of a group of Fantasy films lovers, and currently organized by the Department of Culture and Education of Bilbao Town Council, Bilbao Fantasy Film Festival FANT is dedicated to films of this genre with the idea of making available, as much to fans as the general public (particularly the youngest film goers) releases that do not reach our screens through conventional channels of distribution and exhibition, as well as offering retrospectives of classic horror, mystery and science fiction films.
Bilbao Seriesland is the first International Digital Series Festival in the Basque Country. A center of union for the Best Indie Content and its creators coming from all corners of the world. October; Season of Series in Bilbao, Season of “Wolves” in Bilbao … The Bilbao Seriesland Market it is the first Marketplace which is specifically dedicated to the Digital Series, oriented to professionals that want to make deals during the festival.
Core activity of KCD NGOD. It is an annual celebration that aims to show a diverse range of films full of social commitment, normally excluded from conventional cinemas. Its content revolves around 4 themes: Sustainable Development, Human Rights, Interculturality and Gender Equality. Over its first 8 editions, more than 44,000 people have attended. Currently spread over 19 venues between Bilbao, Barakaldo, Erandio, Portugalete, Mungia, Iurreta, Getxo, Leioa and Elorrio, (9 of them high schools). Main venues are Alhondiga Bilbao and Golem Cinemas. The Festival conducts positive action in order to promote gender equality; probably the only Festival which distributes their films equitably. In 2017, the 9th edition will take place in october, 19th to 26th.

Founded in 1959 and currently organized by Bilbao Town Hall’s department of culture, Bilbao International Documentary and Short Film Festival (Zinebi) recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) as an international competition of the highest quality has as its fundamental objectives to bring to the people of Bilbao the most recent world production of short films and documentaries, paying special attention to the Basque, Latin America and Spanish sphere, as well as to promote the Basque audiovisual industry and Bilbao as an ideal space for filming all kind of audiovisual projects through the Bilbao Bizkaia Film Commission (BiFiC ).
A high-mountain festival at sea level. In December, Bilbao is full of alpinists, adventurers, sport men, filmmakers, producers and artists of international renown. Since its beginning in 2008, Bilbao Mendi Film Festival has become one of the international benchmarks within the series of film festivals related to mountaineering, climbing, adventure and extreme sports. It has also become, in record time, one of the main lures within the sector. But BMFF is way more than just cinema. Due to the numerous parallel activities, it keeps growing every year and bringing to everybody’s reach creativity, inspiration, spreading, training and, above all, fun.
CORTADA is a short fi lm festival that started in 1997 that takes place in the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz. Sponsored by the Campus of Alava in the Basque Country University (UPV / EHU), is a national contest that rewards works of fiction, animation and documentary, not forgetting the local proposals GUREAK grouped in sections (short Basques) and HEMENGOAK (Short Alava). Two new sections are Unilabur (students from universities in Spain) and Ehulabur (UPV/EHU students). From the 2015 edition CORTADA festival qualifies for Goya Awards.
Fundado en 1959 y organizado actualmente por el Área de Cultura del Ayuntamiento de Bilbao, el Festival Internacional de Cine Documental y Cortometraje de Bilbao (ZINEBI), reconocido por la Federación Internacional de Asociaciones de Productores de Films (FIAPF) como un certamen de la máxima categoría internacional competitiva, tiene como objetivos fundamentales acercar al público bilbaíno la producción mundial más reciente de cortometrajes y documentales- particularmente en los ámbitos vasco, español y latinoamericano-, así como impulsar la industria audiovisual del País Vasco y promover nuestra ciudad como espacio ideal para el rodaje de todo tipo de proyectos audiovisuales a través de la Bilbao Bizkaia Film Commission (BiFiC).
Un festival de alta montaña a nivel del mar. Bilbao se llena en diciembre de alpinistas, aventureros, deportistas, cineastas, productores y artistas de renombre internacional. Desde que arrancara en 2008, Bilbao Mendi Film Festival se ha convertido en uno de los grandes referentes internacionales dentro del circuito de festivales de cine de montaña, escalada, aventura y deporte extremo, llegando en tiempo récord a ser uno de los grandes reclamos del sector. Pero BMFF es mucho más que cine. Sus numerosas actividades paralelas hacen que año tras año siga creciendo y poniendo al alcance de todos sus visitantes creatividad, inspiración, divulgación, formación, y sobre todo, diversión.

Auspiciado por el Campus de Álava de la Universidad del País Vasco (UPV/ EHU), es un concurso de carácter nacional que premia a trabajos de ficción, animación y documental, sin olvidar las propuestas más locales agrupadas en las secciones GUREAK (cortos vascos) y HEMENGOAK (Cortos alaveses). Dos nuevas secciones son UNILABUR (Cortos hechos por universitarios) y EHULABUR (cortos dirigidos por alumnos de la UPV/EHU). A partir de la edición de 2015 el festival califica para los Premios Goya de la Academia del Cine Español. En 2017 se celebrará la XXI edición. Del 28 de noviembre al 2 de diciembre.
