O nosso protagonista do I Want to Be an Artist Too do mês de Abril tem 21 anos, é de Ponta Delgada e chama-se João Miguel Ramos. É estudante de Artes Plásticas na especialidade de pintura na Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto. Apesar da sua idade, muitos já devem conhecer o seu trabalho. O ano passado foi um dos vencedores do concurso Jovens Criadores do Walk&Talk 2015. A sua intervenção sobre Antero de Quental pode ser vista no muro superior da Universidade dos Açores. Também foi selecionado na recente edição do LABJOVEM 2016. O seu trabalho mistura diferentes técnicas: pintura, colagens, tudo na base do óleo sobre tela. Estes trabalhos mexem com a contracultura, justaposição excessiva de imagens, simultaneidade dos espaços conceptuais, onde os protagonistas são retratados duma forma bem característica.

The protagonist of April’s ‘I Want to Be an Artist Too’ is 21 years of age, comes from Ponta Delgada and goes by the name of João Miguel Ramos. He studies Plastic Arts, specializing in painting, at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto. In spite of his age, many have come to know his work. Last year, he was one of the winners in the Young Talent competition of the Walk and Talk festival. His work on the subject of Antero de Quental can be seen in the outer wall of the University of the Azores. He was also shortlisted in the most recent edition of LABJOVEM 2016. His work combines different techniques: painting, collages, all on the basis of oil on canvas. These works deal with counterculture, excessive image juxtaposition, simultaneity of conceptual spaces, with the protagonists being portrayed in a very characteristic fashion.

Casa da Rosa é o nome do novo restaurante/bar/galeria que vai abrir oficialmente este mês de Abril na Rua Hintze Ribeiro, no centro histórico de Ponta Delgada. Dizemos “oficialmente” porque no passado dia 19 de Março a Casa da Rosa foi pré-inaugurada por ter sido um dos palcos do Tremor #3. Lá conseguimos ver os nervos do primeiro dia nas caras de Miguel Ribeiro e Miguel Nóia, gestores do espaço. O restaurante destaca-se por misturar técnicas da cozinha espanhola com produtos regionais. Tem showcooking de pratos para todos os paladares, incluindo vegetarianos. Aqui não há nenhuma mesa nem cadeira igual uma à outra - cada peça é única e vão estar à venda para o público. Toda a decoração do espaço é feita pela artista Paula Mota e o arquiteto Filipe Cunha. E é sem dúvida a marca identitária do local.

‘Casa da Rosa’ is the name of the new restaurant/bar/gallery that is officially opening this month of April at Rua Hintze Ribeiro, in Ponta Delgada’s historical center. We’re saying “officially” because last March 19 the venue was already part of the 3rd edition of the Tremor music festival. Then we could see the first-day nervousness in the faces of Miguel Ribeiro and Miguel Nóia, the managers. The restaurant stands out for combining Spanish cuisine techniques with local products. There will be showcooking of dishes for all tastes, including vegetarian. Here no table or chair will look alike – each piece is unique and is actually up for sale. The artist Paula Mota and the architect Filipe Cunha are in charge of the decoration, which is the defining aspect of the place.

João Pimentel, 1971, Terceira. Vive em Santa Maria e tem como hobbies a aviação, a música, a pintura e a reciclagem de ferro velho que transforma em peças de arte e/ou decoração. Diz-se fascinado pelos padrões diferentes da ferrugem. A sua “técnica” consiste em utilizar e incorporar a matéria-prima na peça a construir tentando manter ao máximo a sua forma e aspecto original tal como foi encontrada. Já expôs na Biblioteca Municipal de Vila do Porto e actualmente tem patente ao público, no Espaço em Cena, a exposição “Recyclights”, uma colecção de 25 candeeiros originais. João Pimentel, 1971, Terceira. He lives in Santa Maria and his hobbies are aviation, music, painting and recycling of scrap metal that he turns into pieces of art and / or decoration. He is fascinated by the different patterns of rust. His “technique” is to use and incorporate the raw material in the new piece trying to keep the most of their original shape and appearance as it was found. He’s first exhibition was in Biblioteca Municipal de Vila do Porto. Now he presents a new exhibition “Recyclights”, a collection of 25 original lamps, on Espaço em Cena.

It features a breakfast with some local specialties and dinner menu with ethno-emotional cuisine without geographical limits to the creation and influence, but closely linked to the cultural roots of the Azores.
