Client

Duration

Jun. 2015 - Jan. 2016 (8 months)

Project Brief

The Datong Public Housing, part of the social welfare policy of Taipei City, was built in 1971. The buildings of the public housing are in poor conditions and need to be rebuilt. The task of this project is to establish a renewal scheme involving legal restrictions, the condition of the site, future needs for social welfare, an architectural plan, construction and cost analysis, and management follow-ups. Following the social welfare policy of Taipei City, the final proposal considers this community as an “Intergenerational Collective Community,” which accommodates both

young people and the elderly and also serves as a social service provision base for the neighbors. Due to the restriction of land use related laws, we conclude that only a 3-floor-duplex house can accommodate six units for the youth and eight units for the elderly, totaling 14 tenants.

The Project of Developing Guanshan into a Cultural and Creative Town

Executive

Project Brief

National Taiwan University Building and Planning Research Foundation (NTUBPRF)

As the least populated town in Taiwan, Guanshan suffers from continual depopulation and recession. This project aimed to unlock the potential of Guanshan and make the town thrive again. The town not only retains the classic grid street layout from early development, but also keeps many distinguished old houses built in the Japanese colonial period. However, most of them are under critical conditions and need to be restored for reuse. Our team did a field research about the town and conducted experiments on old houses for the purpose of renovation, decoration and restoration. We also explored the history of this

My Role As one of the two main project coordinators, I participated in this project from the proposal stage to the end, and actively involved in every aspects of this project. I was fully in charge of renovation.

Project Brief The police dorms were built in the Japanese colonial period and have been abandoned for a long time. These dorms are ㄒvdistinguished Japanese style wooden houses. We replaced the mixed-texture fence with bamboos, and restored the wooden roof based on our interview with the former resident. The renovation not only revealed the elevation of dorms but also built the local’s hometown awareness via the cocreation of fence in the workshop.

Project Brief This abandoned hospital was built in the 1920s and had played a crucial role in the medical history of Eastern Taiwan. The hospital encompasses precious cultural values. When we spotted the hospital, its roof was under critical conditions; hence, we decided to fix it. Through repairing the hospital, we brought back the local’s memories about this hospital and the doctors, and reminded them how beautiful the hospital had been. After the restoration was completed, the hospital became an exhibition site for Guanshan’s story festival.
