El determinar qué es verdadero y qué es falso puede ser un proceso bastante complejo. Por lo general, dependemos de la evidencia, el razonamiento, y el pensamiento crítico para distinguir la verdad de la falsedad. ¿Cómo sabemos lo que es correcto, y que es incorrecto?

Las noticias falsas se refieren a falsedades deliberadas, o historias que contienen algo verdadero pero no completamente exacto, ya sea por accidente o adrede. Algunos dicen que las historias verdaderas no lo son cuando esas no concuerdan con lo que ellos piensan.

El fraude en la salud, o charlatanería, es una práctica que vende falsas esperanzas. Se aprovecha de la gente que está sufriendo de enfermedades que no tienen cura fija, tales como la artritis, la esclerosis múltiple, y ciertas formas de cáncer. También hay “curas” de oídas. La vaporización, las gárgaras con jugo de nabo o ajo, las frotaciones del pecho con mentol, la sopa de gallina, la vitamina C, el tomarse 6 tazas de te de rooibos, Sake caliente & Huevo, y Te Broncolin son por ejemplo, algunos remedios que diferentes culturas sugieren para tratar el resfrío común. ¿Cómo se sabe si lo que creemos es verdad?

Una manera de evaluar la veracidad de lo que creemos es examinar la evidencia y considerar diferentes perspectivas. El pensar críticamente, buscando diferentes fuentes de información, y manteniéndose abierto a nuevas ideas nos puede ayudar a evaluar la validez de nuestras creencias.

Una creencia es algo que está basado en la opinión o perspectiva individual. Una verdad es más sólida que una creencia, pues no se basa en la opinión o la perspectiva. Un hecho es más que confiar que una creencia, y se basa en evidencia o prueba. Una verdad es más importante que un hecho, porque es la base de todo lo que se llega a saber. ¿Qué determina lo que creemos?

Esto depende de las diversas razones que originan las creencias; los estímulos subjetivos, los personales y los emocionales, en entornos sociales e históricos que influyen su contenido. Como “máquina de creencias” el cerebro está siempre en busca de significados en la información que recibe.

Diferentes Culturas Tienen Códigos Morales Diferentes Lo que se cree correcto dentro de un grupo puede ser absolutamente aborrecible para los miembros de otro grupo, y viceversa. ¿Los cadáveres se deben de comer o quemar? Si se hubiese sido griego, una respuesta sería obviamente la correcta; pero si se fuera callaciano, lo opuesto parecería ser lo certero.

El relativismo ético es la teoría que mantiene que la moral es relativa a las normas de la cultura de cada uno. O sea, que una acción es correcta o equivocada dependiendo de las normas de la sociedad en que se vive.

Esa misma acción puede ser moralmente correcta en una sociedad pero moralmente

mala en otra.

Las costumbres esquimales, por ejemplo eran bien diferentes de las nuestras. Los hombres tenían más de una esposa, y las compartían con sus invitados, prestándolas para la noche como señal de hospitalidad.

Aun más, dentro de una comunidad, un hombre dominante podía exigir acceso regular para tener sexo con las esposas de otros.

Las mujeres, sin embargo, podían librarse de esos acuerdos simplemente abandonando a sus esposos y juntándose con otros compañeros; con tal que los ex-esposos no crearan problemas. Al final, la práctica esquimal era un esquema que tenía poca semejanza a lo que nosotros llamamos matrimonio.

El Relativismo Cultural El concepto de “correcto e incorrecto” es altamente subjetivo, y lo que pueda considerarse correcto o incorrecto en una cultura, puede ser visto por otra de forma diferente. La cultura juega un rol significante en la formación de nuestras creencias y valores, que se reflejan en nuestra idea de correcto e incorrecto.

Para muchos pensadores, la observación de que “Diferentes culturas tienen diferentes códigos morales” parece haber sido la clave para entender la moralidad. La idea de una verdad universal en la ética, dicen ellos, es un mito. Las costumbres de diferentes sociedades son tantas como existen. Esas costumbres no se pueden catalogar como “correctas” o “incorrectas,” por que se implica que todos tenemos un estándar independiente de lo correcto e incorrecto para ser juzgados.

Pero, no existe tal estándar independiente; cada estándar depende de la cultura. El Relativismo Cultural, somo se le llama, reta nuestra creencia ordinaria en la objetividad y universalidad de una verdad moral. Sostiene, en efecto, que en cuestiones de ética no existe la verdad; solo hay varios códigos culturales, nada más. ¿Hay algún estándar culturalmente neutral para lo Correcto e Incorrecto?

El Relativismo Cultural es una teoría atractiva porque se basa en una introspectiva genuina sobre que las muchas prácticas y actitudes en las que pensamos tan naturalmente son realmente sólo productos culturales. Más aun, mantener esta introspectiva firmemente en nuestra mira es importante para evitar la arrogancia y mantener mentes abiertas. Estos son puntos importantes que no se deben de tomar ligeramente.

En base a nuestra propia cultura, lo que sabemos se vuelve nuestra verdad. Por tanto, lo verdadero en nuestra vida se encuentra si …

• Se cree en Sí Mismo y se cree que se es capaz de lograr lo que se quiere.

• Se cree que los errores son una gran manera de aprender.

• Se cree que el camino equivocado puede conducir al destino correcto.

• Se cree en la bondad de la gente.

Determining what is true and what is false can be a complex process. In general, we rely on evidence, reasoning, and critical thinking to distinguish truth from falsehood.

How do we know what is correct, and what is incorrect?

Fake news refers to deliberate untruths, or stories that contain some truth but which aren’t completely accurate, by accident or design. Some people also claim that truthful stories are “fake news,” just because they don’t agree with them.

Health fraud, or quackery, is a practice that sells false hope. It preys on persons who are suffering from diseases that may have no complete medical cures, such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and certain forms of cancer. Vaporizing, Garlic or Radish Juice Gargles, Chest Rubbing with Menthol, Chicken Soup, Vitamin C, Six Cups of Rooibos tea, Hot Sake & Egg, and Broncolin Tea are just a few remedies suggested by different cultures to treat the common cold.

How do you know what you believe is true?

One way to evaluate the truth of your beliefs is to examine evidence and consider different perspectives. Engaging in critical thinking, seeking out diverse sources of information, and being open to new ideas can help you evaluate the validity of your beliefs.

A belief is something that is based on an individual’s opinion or perspective. A truth is more sound than a belief, as it is not based on opinion or perspective. A fact is more reliable than a belief, as it is based on evidence or proof. A truth is more important than a fact, as it is the basis for all other knowledge.

What determines what we believe?

These underlie the diverse reasons why we form particular beliefs from subjective, personal and emotional promptings, in social and historical environments that influence their content. As a ‘belief engine’, the brain is always seeking to find meaning in the information that pours into it.

How Different Cultures Have Different Moral Codes Different cultures have different moral codes. What is thought right within one group may be utterly abhorrent to the members of another group, and vice versa. Should we eat the bodies of the dead or burn them?

If you were a Greek, one answer would seem obviously correct; but if you were a Callatian, the opposite would seem equally certain.

Ethical relativism is the theory that holds that morality is relative to the norms of one’s culture. That is, whether an action is right or wrong depends on the moral norms of the society in which it is practiced. The same action may be morally right in one society but be morally wrong in another.

Eskimos customs for example, turned out to be very different from our own. The men often had more than one wife, and they would share their wives with guests, lending them for the night as a sign of hospitality.

Moreover, within a community, a dominant male might demand and get regular sexual access to other men’s wives. The women, however, were free to break these arrangements simply by leaving their husbands and taking up with new partners free, that is, so long as their former husbands chose not to make trouble. All in all, the Eskimo practice was a volatile scheme that bore little resemblance to what we call marriage.

Cultural Relativism The concept of “right and wrong” is highly subjective, and what may be considered right or wrong in one culture may be viewed differently in another. Culture plays a significant role in shaping our beliefs and values, which is reflected in our ideas of right and wrong.

To many thinkers, the observation “Different cultures have different moral codes” has seemed to be the key to understanding morality. The idea of universal truth in ethics, they say, is a myth. The customs of different societies are all that exist. These customs cannot be said to be “correct” or “incorrect,” for that implies we have an independent standard of right and wrong by which they may be judged. But there is no such independent standard; every standard is culture-bound. Cultural Relativism, as it has been called, challenges our ordinary belief in the objectivity and universality of moral truth. It says, in effect, that there is not such thing as universal truth in ethics; there are only the various cultural codes, and nothing more.

Is There a Culture-Neutral Standard of Right and Wrong?

Cultural Relativism is an attractive theory because it is based on a genuine insight that many of the practices and attitudes we think so natural are really only cultural products.

Moreover, keeping this insight firmly in view is important if we want to avoid arrogance and have open minds. These are important points, not to be taken lightly. But we can accept these points without going on to accept the whole theory.

Our Knowledge & Our Truth Belief and truth are two prerequisites for knowledge. In order to know something one must believe in a certain proposition, and that belief must be true. Based on your own culture, what we know becomes our truth.

Therefore, the truth in your life will be found if you …

• Believe in Yourself and believe that you’re capable of achieving anything you want.

• Believe that tour mistakes are a great way to learn.

• Believe that the wrong road can lead to the right destination.

• Believe in the good in people.

Discount supermarket chain ALDI has become the first major U.S. grocery retailer to stop using plastic bags in all of its more than 2,300 stores.

The total phase-out of the use of plastic bags was achieved by the end of 2023. With this move, the retail chain will prevent nearly 4,400 tons, or almost nine million pounds of plastic, from entering circulation each year.

The company stated that this sustainability achievement reinforces its goal of being the environmentally friendly grocery retailer in the United States.

Likewise, ALDI announced a new sustainable goal with the decision to transition to natural refrigerants in all its US stores by the end of 2035.

Natural refrigerants will keep products fresh in stores while the supermarket chain fulfills its purpose of supporting a healthier planet.

As reported by the company, this new goal is based on using environmentally friendly refrigerants in more than 600 stores, helping ALDI save almost 60% of potential carbon emissions each year.

“As one of America’s fastest-growing retailers, we take our responsibility to lead the industry in sustainability seriously, so our customers don’t have to choose between shopping responsibly and saving money,” said Jason Hart, CEO of ALDI. “Eliminating plastic shopping bags from our stores and transitioning to environmentally friendly refrigerant systems not only help us protect the environment, but they also help reduce costs, which we then pass on to our customers. These decisions help our custom-

ers feel good about shopping at ALDI, and our employees feel proud to work here,” Hart added.

With its rapid growth across the country, ALDI will deploy a purchasing strategy that incorporates the best refrigerant solution for each region’s distinct climate – including both carbon dioxide and propane refrigerants, two ultra-low Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerants.

Beginning this year, ALDI will purchase environmentally friendly refrigerants for all new and remodeled stores and replace the current refrigerants in existing stores with refrigerants that have low global warming potential.

In 2023, ALDI once again received the EPA’s GreenChill Store Certification Excellence recognition for its environmentally friendly refrigeration practices, achieving the most certifications at the platinum level of all

participating U.S. grocery retailers.

The EPA also awarded 109 ALDI stores in 17 states with GreenChill Store Re-Certification Excellence, recognizing these locations for five consecutive years of platinum-level certifications.

Through this program, GreenChill food retailers like ALDI maintain emissions rates that are approximately half the industry average, resulting in a significant benefit to the environment.

“ALDI continually shows its commitment to the environment by minimizing refrigerant emissions at stores, including the 109 stores that have been recertified in 2023 for the fifth year in a row at the platinum level,” said Cindy Newberg, Stratospheric Protection Division Director at the EPA. “ALDI is leading the way with over 600 GreenChill certified stores, a GreenChill record!”

Chicagoland Nonprofit Encourages Seniors to Move in Healthy Directions with Free Special Fitness Program

Elderwerks helps participants keep track of their progress, offers chances to win prizes (PALATINE, ILLINOIS) —Just before the turning of a new year, people declare their motivation and desire to get physically fit to shed those unwanted pounds.

The nonprofit Elderwerks encourages older adults, seniors, and anyone else who wants to keep up their momentum by entering Elderwerks Annual Stepping Out to Fitness program.

Elderwerks President Jennifer Prell explained that this free program, which begins this month and lasts until the end of the year, is designed for participants of all fitness levels. The participants track their exercise on monthly logs provided on the organization’s website and turn them in for chances to win monthly gift cards and annual prizes such as an Apple Watch or a Samsung flatscreen TV. “Our popular program makes it easy for seniors to incorporate exercise into their daily lives,” she explained. “It’s up to them to choose what they would like to do—anything from

walking, lifting weights, participating in a yoga or tai chi class or any other physical activity. We give them the encouragement and support to personally modify their workouts to their own pace, which I think, makes exercising more fun.”

Arecent articleby the National Council on Aging advises that “older adults should engage in moderate exercise for at least 30 minutes five days a week and in muscle-strengthening activities for two or more days a week that work for all major muscle groups. Statistics show that less than one-third of Americans aged 65+ meet this recommendation.”

To help participants find different activities, Elderwerks also offers virtual exercise classes. Through a partnership with The Urban Health Initiative at the University of Chicago Medicine community health department, there are weekly low-impact strength and cardio classes presented by the Chicago-based BodyParts Fitness Initiative.

Leah Seidel, owner of Golden Oaks Personal Training in Deerfield and an instructor who presents some of the nonprofit’s virtual chair yoga and cardio strength classes, recommends the following general tips to help seniors go far in their exercise program: • Staying hydrated helps boost one’s energy levels and mood. She said that people are recommended to drink half of one’s weight in ounces of water each day.

• Creating a bedtime routine helps prepare one’s body for sleep. Some ways to do this include meditating, listening to quiet music, or taking a hot shower.

• Eating a rainbow of foods which means including fruits and vegetables • Stretching helps alleviate aches and pains in the muscles and joints. In the morning, help your body wake up and reduce soreness by stretching 3-5 minutes before you get out of bed.

Planned Parenthood of Illinois sheds light on Cervical Health Awareness Month January marks Cervical Health Awareness Month - a perfect time to think about getting a screening for cervical cancer. Cervical cancer can be highly preventable by screening for HPV (human papillomavirus), getting the HPV vaccine, getting routine a Pap test, or using internal or external condoms.

As a trusted provider of all sexual and reproductive health care, Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PPIL) recommends anyone with a cervix to get routine cervical cancer screenings. How often depends on several factors.

Cervical cancer is caused by certain types of HPV , the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI). In most cases, HPV is harmless and can go away on its own — but high-risk HPV can lead to cervical cancer.

There is no cure for HPV, but a vaccine is available that can help protect against cervical, vulvar, penile, anal, mouth, and throat cancers caused by some types of HPV. The Center for Disease Control recommends that all young people get the vaccine at 11 or 12-years-old, before they are sexually active.

However, adults under the age of 45 can still benefit from the vaccine. Access to regular Pap tests — the screening that detects abnormal cells that could turn into cancer

— and HPV tests can help you stay healthy and safe. Pap tests, sometimes called Pap smears, are very important tests for finding abnormal cells on your cervix that could lead to cervical cancer.

Pap tests find cell changes caused by HPV, but they don’t detect HPV itself. How often you get tested depends on your age, medical history, and the results of your last Pap or HPV tests.

PPIL recommends beginning cervical cancer screening at 21 years old. In general, If you’re 21–24 years old you can choose to get a Pap test every 3 years, or you can wait until you’re 25 years old to start getting tested. If you’re 25–65 years old, it is recommended to get an HPV test every 5 years, or a Pap test and HPV test together (co-testing) every 5 years. PPIL offers Pap and HPV tests, the HPV vaccine and treatment that can help

stop abnormal cell changes from developing into cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer symptoms are hard to notice, but tests can find abnormal cells before they become cancer. Some signs of cervical cancer include abnormal bleeding, spotting, or discharge, periods that are heavier than usual, and bleeding after sex.

Un estudio publicado en el Journal of the American College of Cardiology le dio seguimiento a poco

más de seis mil adultos de entre 50 y 75 años, de quienes analizaron su tipo de alimentación diaria.

Con esto la investigación concluyó que saltarse el desayuno es motivo para aumentar la tasa de muerte prematura.

Los médicos expresan que el desayuno es el alimento más importante del día, ya que le brinda beneficios al cuerpo de manera prolongada y para rendir a lo largo del día.

Este estudio publicado por la marca de jugos estadounidense Welch’s, examinó la vida de dos mil madres con hijos entre los 5 y los 12 años de edad.

En promedio estas mujeres iniciaban labores a las 6:23 de la mañana y terminaban hasta después de las 8 de la noche.

Es decir que su jornada diaria es de más de 14 horas. Aunque para las madres cuyos hijos son apenas unos bebés la jornada se extiende hasta altas horas de la madrugada.

Esto significa que, una madre trabaja cerca de 98 horas semanales aproximadamente, lo que equivale a más de dos trabajos de 8 horas diarias. No es sorpresa que 4 de cada 10 hayan admitido sentirse

De acuerdo con Casey Lewis, líder de Salud y Nutrición en Welch’s, la alimentación es lo que más ocupa (y preocupa) a las madres.

72% de ellas luchan diariamente por preparar comidas balanceadas para su familia.

Janine Trainor Fronteras de la Noticia - laestrella.com.pa La canciller mexicana, Alicia Bárcena, afirmó que la migración que atraviesa el país hacia Estados Unidos se ha reducido a la mitad desde diciembre, un hecho que la Casa Blanca reconoció en la reunión bilateral del viernes pasado.

La funcionaria destacó que fue “muy buena” la reunión en Washington, en seguimiento del primer encuentro del 27 de diciembre, cuando una delegación de Estados Unidos, liderada por el secretario de Estado, Antony Blinken, visitó México ante el repunte migratorio inédito.

Bárcena detalló que ambos países reconocieron que la migración no es un tema exclusivo entre México y Estados Unidos “porque la mayoría de los migrantes proceden de países como Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Centroamérica, por lo tanto, exige una mirada regional en su solución y en su atención”.

La canciller sostuvo que, desde la Cumbre Migratoria en Palenque, en la que México recibió a cerca de una decena de países latinoamericanos en octubre pasado, “el paradigma ha cambiado” porque ahora acordaron abordar las causas estructurales y colaborar en vuelos de repatriación pero asociados a paquetes de desarrollo.

“México ya está haciendo esto con Venezuela, con Guatemala, con Honduras, con todos los países que retornamos inmigrantes, pero ya con un paquete de desarrollo”, expuso.

La diplomática detalló que el encuentro en Washington resultó en 10 acuerdos, entre los que están homologar las cifras migratorias a partir de un panel conjunto, y sostener una reunión trilateral entre México, Guatemala y Estados Unidos “lo más pronto posible” a nivel de ministros.

También definirán que el CBP One, la plataforma donde migrantes se inscriben para entrar a Estados Unidos, funcione desde el sur, además de colaborar contra las redes de trata y tráfico de personas.

Del mismo modo, investigarán la entrada de armas a México que son de uso exclusivo del Ejército estadounidense y darán seguimiento a las acciones “realmente discriminatorias” del gobernador de Texas, Greg Abbott.

Asimismo, dijo que Estados Unidos sancionará a empresas centroamericanas y sudamericanas que transporten migrantes irregularmente y la Casa Blanca pidió que México haga lo mismo.

Acordaron también una visita conjunta al estrecho del Darién en Panamá, emitir declaraciones públicas cuidadosas “y de preferencia acordadas”, y reunirse de nuevo, probablemente en febrero.

Machu Picchu fue construido en el siglo XV por el emperador inca Pachacutec, que inició un periodo de expansión y prosperidad para el imperio inca. Pachacutec eligió un lugar estratégico, enclavado entre montañas y valles, para establecer su residencia imperial y un santuario religioso.

La construcción del lugar exigió un trabajo colosal, con el transporte de bloques de piedra perfectamente tallados y la construcción de un ingenioso sistema de riego, drenaje y terrazas agrícolas.

La arquitectura de Machu Picchu es un notable ejemplo del arte inca, caracterizado por la armonía de sus formas, la maestría en el corte de la piedra y su adaptación al relieve y al entorno natural. Los edificios del sitio están construidos en granito, con bloques de piedra encajados con precisión milimétrica, sin argamasa ni cemento. Los muros están ligeramente inclinados hacia el interior para resistir mejor los

terremotos y los derrumbes.

Machu Picchu fue abandonado tras la caída del Imperio Inca en el siglo XVI, probablemente debido a la propagación de enfermedades europeas y a la conquista española.

El sitio permaneció oculto durante siglos, protegido por la selva tropical y las montañas circundantes, hasta su redescubrimiento a principios del siglo XX. En conjunto, la construcción y las estructuras de Machu Picchu son testimonio de la grandeza del Imperio Inca y de sus extraordinarios logros en arquitectura, ingeniería y planificación urbana. El lugar sigue fascinan-do a investigadores, viajeros y amantes de la historia y la cultura incas.

En 1911 dirigió una expedición para encontrar las últimas capitales incas, Vitcos y Vilcabamba. Por el camino, conoció a un granjero local llamado Melchor Arteaga, que le habló de un sitio arqueológico en una montaña cercana.

El 24 de julio de 1911, Arteaga condujo a Bingham a Machu Picchu. Asombrado por las ruinas y convencido de su

importancia histórica, Bingham dedicó el resto de su vida al estudio y conservación del sitio.

Las excavaciones e investigaciones realizadas por Bingham y su equipo han permitido comprender mejor la historia, la cultura y la arquitectura de Machu Picchu.

Tras su redescubrimiento, Machu Picchu fue objeto de un gran proceso de investigación arqueológica en el que se encontraron cientos de cerámicas, herramientas, esculturas, ropas, momias y otros objetos (4849 piezas en total, que se enviaron a la Universidad de Yale, en Estados Unidos, entre 1911 y 1916). Más de 100 años después, los objetos fueron devueltos al gobierno peruano y declarados patrimonios culturales de la nación.

La historia de Machu Picchu continúa, pero ahora se enfrenta a diversos retos relacionados con su con-servación y gestión. Entre las amenazas naturales figuran los terremotos, los deslizamientos de tierra y la erosión, que puede dañar las estructuras y las terrazas.

Ese apagón se alargó por 9 horas, pero no solo afectó a esa zona, sino que también hubo fallos en satélites de defensa y comunicación, modificando sus órbitas.

Cuando se empezó a investigar lo que había causado ese apagón se descubrió que fue debido al viento solar y su efecto sobre la Tierra, lo que dio lugar a una nueva ciencia conocida como meteorología espacial, una disciplina que va desde la ciencia a la tecnología, y con implicaciones sociales.

Desde la Tierra, el Sol nos parece una enorme bola inamovible cuyo brillo es constante. La realidad no es así, ni mucho menos, sino que en su superficie se producen continuamente explosiones y otros fenómenos que causan prominencias, fulguraciones y emisiones de su masa.

En cada una de estas explosiones el Sol libera una gran cantidad de energía, una energía que equivale al lanzamiento de más de 35.000 bombas atómicas como la que se lanzó en Hiroshima. Con ellas, se lanzan al espacio partículas solares, así como campos magnéticos que nos afectan cuando van a la Tierra. Estos campos magnéticos provocan grandes cambios en la Tierra y su entorno, es decir: la atmósfera, la ionosfera o la magnetosfera, pero los efectos también se perciben en su propia superficie.

Como hemos explicado al inicio, el apagón de Quebec en 1989 fue el punto de inflexión en el estudio de los efectos del viento solar en la Tierra. No obstante, son innumerables los

registros que tenemos sobre los efectos que produce la emisión de masa solar en nuestro planeta y, específicamente, en los sistemas de tecnología.

Algunos de estos sistemas se explican por las interferencias que provoca en el campo magnético, otras por las alteraciones que producen en los materiales conductores con los que se construyen. Pero, además de todos los comentados, también hay otras tecnologías que se ven afectadas por la modificación de la amplitud y fase de las ondas electromagnéticas, por ejemplo, los sistemas de navegación y comunicación, que puede provocar errores en los GPS. Pero las partículas solares no solo afectan a la superficie, tanto la atmósfera de la Tierra como la magnetosfera nos protegen de su radiación, no obstante, los astronautas, cuando salen de esta capa protectora sí que están expuestos a su gran energía, que puede provocar mutaciones genéticas y ADN. La magnetosfera es una de las muchas capas que envuelven la Tierra. En este caso estamos hablando de la más externa y grande de las que

constituyen la atmósfera de la Tierra, empezando a 500 Km de la superficie y extendiéndose por el espacio hasta más de 60.000 Km. En realidad, no es más que un campo magnético producido en el interior terrestre. Nuestro planeta tiene un núcleo de hierro a altísimas temperaturas que, con el giro terrestre, como si fuera una dinamo, convierte el planeta en un gran imán, con campo y polos magnéticos.

Esto no es algo específico de la Tierra, de hecho, otros planetas de nuestro mismo sistema, como Saturno, Júpiter, Neptuno y Urano también lo tienen, no obstante, la de la Tierra es la más potente de todas, impidiendo que gran parte del viento solar no pueda traspasarla.

Como hemos venido diciendo, la magnetosfera es un elemento indispensable para la vida en nuestro planeta y su importancia se debe a su actuación como escudo frente a las partículas solares. Las investigaciones científicas arrojan que sin la magnetosfera la vida en nuestro planeta hubiera sido imposible, puesto que habría desaparecido la mayor parte del agua. De hecho, se cree que algo parecido es lo que sucedió con Marte.

Event attendees can pick up native plant, vegetable, herb, and flower seeds (at no cost to them); attend seed-related demonstrations every half-hour (including how to save seeds, grow loofahs, and more); meet with various seed and supply vendors; and learn about garden resources. For those who already save seeds at home, there will also be a seed swap organized by McHenry County Plantings at 10 a.m.

“Growing plants from seed—whether it is a vegetable, herb, flower or native plant— saves money and is fun and fulfilling,” said Emily Zack of the Center from Agrarian Learning at MCC. “This event can help home growers get started with lots of experts to answer questions and free seeds to take home and try. With demos and presentations throughout the day, plus vendors and non-profits sharing tips and products, this is a great way to start your seed growing jour-

O eso creen sus creadores. Ridley Scott cree que está cerca de tener otra de sus grandes películas, y es que el director de Alien, Gladiator o Blade Runner explorará la compleja y controvertida figura del archiconocido emperador europeo a través de sus grandes victorias y de sus profundas relaciones amorosas.

Protagonizada por Joaquín Phoenix, que hoy nos mostraba su atribulado rostro en Joker 2, ganador del Óscar, liderará una producción que lo podría hacer levantar la estatuilla otra vez. Según Scott, que está feliz del reencuentro entre ambos tras Gladiator en el año 2000, lo tiene claro: sí.

En Napoleón, más allá de otorgar importancia a sus victorias y conquistas, plasmando algunas de sus batallas más famosas, ahondará en la psique de la célebre figura y su relación con su mujer. En el épico filme histórico, veremos a Phoenix asumiendo el rol del emperador francés y a Vanessa Kirby encarnando a Josefina de Beauharnais, la que fuera su primera esposa. Y según personas cercanas a ella, J-Lo vive un día a la vez con su marido, quien tiende a ‘explotar’ por cualquier motivo. Según la revista US Weekly, aunque la terapia de pareja ha ayudado a los actores desde el día 1, las cosas no siempre salen como la cantante quiere. Recientemente Ben fue captado en uno de estos arrebatos con J-Lo en una joyería de lujo en Europa. La cantante incluso dijo que la gente no debe preocuparse, porque su marido es intenso, pero está muy feliz.

En ese momento, un testigo dijo a la revista In Touch: “Fue una explosión rápida… en cuestión de minutos, ella calmó la situación y las cosas se calmaron. Nadie lo menciona abiertamente, pero el festejo también se puede interpretar como una despedida agridulce, un proceso de dejar ir algo que amas.

El universo presentado en la cinta es pequeño pero intenso: la historia transcurre en la casa del abuelo de Sol, desde la mañana hasta la noche y sitúa a sus personajes en la preparación de la celebración de Tona. La familia interactúa de manera disruptiva, con tías que discuten por trivialidades, un par de hermanos que pelean por la forma de ejecutar los quehaceres y niñas que miran más allá de lo que ocultan los adultos.

Durante la película vemos extractos de un todo, pero la edición de Omar Guzmán (Zapatos rojos) es tan eficiente que no se necesita escuchar la conversación completa para entender las dinámicas entre los personajes.

La dirección de Avilés (La camarista) es empática, pues busca que aceptemos a cada miembro de la familia y su método para luchar contra lo inevitable, todo por medio de una historia que resalta detalles que, en su superficie, no parecen tener importancia, pero cuyos significados se elevan al ser presentados como un conjunto de momentos que marcarían a una familia para siempre. Tótem es una representación de un recuerdo colectivo formado por el dolor, pero también una impetuosa demostración de amor y de cómo estaremos juntos al combatir las condiciones de lo que significa ser un humano.
