As extreme cold persists, here’s how to stay warm and safe BY JENNY WHIDDEN

We’re used to dealing with cold and snow here in the Midwest, but when the temperatures plunge below zero for an extended period of time, some extra caution and care may be necessary to stay safe and comfortable. With extremely cold weather persisting in the suburbs until midweek, here are some answers to key safety questions from local experts. Q: How long can exposed skin be safe in the cold, and how do you know it’s time to go inside? With the wind chills we’re having, people can get frostbite in as little as 15 to 30 minutes, said Dr. Neil Shah, the medical director for employee and occupational health at Endeavor Health Northwest Community Hospital. “It’s different for everyone, so we can’t give an exact number, but the big thing is to keep your skin covered up,” Shah said, adding that if you start to feel frequent shivering or any pain in your fingers, toes, nose or ears, it’s a good idea to get inside and get warm. Shah cautioned those with cold fingers shouldn’t put their hands under hot water, because the sensation in the fingers likely won’t be accurate and they could accidentally burn them. Instead, stick with warm water. “If (the symptoms) are anything more than that, they really want to get some medical care to make sure they haven’t lost sensation and their circulation isn’t too poor,” Shah said. Q: What groups should take extra care when venturing out into the cold? The two most at-risk populations are the elderly and infants or very young children, said Dr. Terry Chiganos, an emergency medicine physician at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. That’s because elderly people have lower metabolism and don’t create as much heat as the average adult. As for infants, they haven’t yet fully developed the ability to regulate body temperature. Shah added that people with heart and lung diseases should also take extra precautions in the extreme cold, as the cold puts a lot of stress on the heart and lung problems can be exacerbated in dry, cold air. Q: What are some key things to remember about dressing warm? Dressing in layers is key, Chiganos said, because it will give you more insulation and protect you from both wind and precipitation. “You want an internal layer that should wick away moisture from the skin to prevent that evaporative heat loss with moisture sitting directly on the skin,” Chiganos said. “The middle layers serve as insulation, and the outer layers should protect you from the wind and precipitation.” The National Weather Service also recommends wearing a face mask, a warm hat and two or more layers of pants. Q: Gloves or mittens? Mittens, snug at the wrist, are better than gloves. “When your fingers are together in the mitten, they start heating each other up,” Shah said. “The closer your body parts are to each other, the warmer they’re going to stay.” Q: How long can pets go outside, and how can they be protected? Experts at the National Weather Service and nonprofit American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals recommend pets be kept indoors whenever possible during cold snaps.

“Remember, if it’s too cold for you, it’s probably too cold for your pet,” according to ASPCA. If your pets need to be taken outside, keep them bundled up — including their paws. Providing plenty of food and water during the wintertime is also essential, as pets burn extra energy by trying to stay warm in wintertime. “Feeding your pet a little bit more during the cold weather months can provide much-needed calories, and making sure she has plenty of water to drink will help keep her well-hydrated and her skin less dry,” according to ASPCA. Q: Should you warm your car up in cold weather? Despite the long-held belief that cars should be allowed a few minutes to warm up before taking off, for modern cars, the practice can be left in the past. According to the American Automobile Association, drivers can idle “only for the time it takes you to fasten your seat belt.” “This ensures that lubricating oil gets to all of the engine’s vital parts. Driving the car normally and avoiding hard acceleration brings the engine to a warmer temperature faster, and also reduces wear and exhaust emissions,” according to the association. “Naturally, a little longer idle time is OK in winter while you clear snow and ice from the windshield and other car parts.” For those without a remote starter system, it’s also illegal in Illinois to leave a car unattended with the engine running and the key in the ignition. “... no person driving or in charge of a motor vehicle shall permit it to stand unattended without first stopping the engine, locking the ignition, removing the key from the ignition, effectively setting the brake thereon and, when standing upon any perceptible grade, turning the front wheels to the

curb or side of the highway,” according to the state’s vehicle code. The exception is if the car is locked and running after being started remotely. [Continue on page 5]

Fast-food restaurant is one of many in new commercial development along Randall Road Fast-food chain Raising Cane’s held a grand opening last Thursday for its newest eatery in Algonquin. Raising Cane’s, 1701 S. Randall Road, is one of the businesses in the new Enclave development along Randall Road. Nearby are Portillo’s and Cooper’s Hawk, which both opened about a month ago. Neighbor Belle Tire should be opening within the next month, Algonquin Community Development Director Jason Shallcross said. The restaurant, famous for its fried chicken, decided to come to Algonquin after getting multiple customer requests, said Kevin Ryan, regional leader of restaurants for Raising Cane’s. The next nearest location is off Route 14 in Crystal Lake, which opened in 2021. The new location brought about 100 jobs to the village, Ryan said. The Enclave also will be home to a new Chipotle and the brunch restaurant First Watch. Groundbreakings on those businesses are expected to start this spring, Shallcross said. Dog-friendly restaurant Lazy Dog is looking to join the Enclave just north of Cooper’s Hawk, and it is requesting approval from the village board this month. If approved, the restaurant plans to start construction in the spring and be open by year’s end, Shallcross said.

tic, Shallcross said. On the east side of town, Atomic Car Wash along Algonquin Road is under construction and is expected to open this spring, Shallcross said. Raising Cane’s is open from 10 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.
Roselle is seeking home-rule authority on March ballot BY KATLYN SMITH

Roselle officials will make the case for home-rule powers during a forum at the village hall Thursday night. Voters in Roselle will decide whether the village should become a home-rule community when they cast ballots in the March primary election. State law automatically grants home-rule status to Illinois towns with a population of more than 25,000. Smaller municipalities such as Roselle, a suburb of 22,897 as of the 2020 census, may obtain home rule — and the additional taxing and regulatory powers — only by going to voters. Under home rule, Roselle would be able to enact a local sales tax and a local gasoline tax paid by residents as well as visitors to help fund infrastructure projects. Officials estimate the village would need at least $4.5 million in additional revenue per year to repay

loans for improvements to water and wastewater systems. “If we want to continue to have a well-maintained and healthy community, we have to invest in these kinds of improvements,” Mayor David Pileski said. Home-rule towns also are not subject to the state-imposed property tax cap. However, even if Roselle voters adopt home rule, village leaders have pledged to still abide by the property tax cap, which limits in-
creases to 5% or the rate of inflation, whichever is lower. With a home-rule sales tax, the village also intends to reduce its reliance on revenue from a capital improvement surcharge on water bills — currently $7.50 per 1,000 gallons — to fund water and sewer infrastructure projects. If Roselle becomes home rule, the village board would cap surcharge rates at $9.50 per 1,000 gallons. “Without any sales tax revenue, we projected that it would have to go up to $20 per 1,000 gallons,” Pileski said. The village has to update both of its wastewater treatment plants — the oldest of the two was built in 1928 — to meet state mandates related to nutrient removal, officials say. Roselle also must continue to replace lead service lines within its water system. The village identified approximately 240 “known or suspected” lead service lines out of roughly 8,400 service lines in the community, Roselle Public Works
Director Karen Young said during a previous forum on the homerule issue last year. “The other thing that we’re trying to deal with is our streets program has been funded flat for at least the past nine years at $1 million,” Pileski said. “As inflation has occurred, that covers less and less streets, so we want to evaluate a gasoline tax.” Officials have discussed several funding options for the infrastructure work. For example, if Roselle trustees set a home rule sales tax rate at 1.5%, the village could generate about $5.25 million. “For Roselle, this is kind of a case of, ‘Do you want to have the burden solely on residents going forward?’” the mayor said. “Or do we want to allow visitors to...pay their fair share like we do today in neighboring communities?” Two informational meetings on the home-rule question are scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday and Thursday, Feb. 15, at the village hall.

According to AAA, removing snow and ice from your vehicle is particularly important, as the falling snow could limit visibility for you or others on the road, putting them in danger. While it’s not illegal in Illinois to keep the pile on your car, it is a traffic violation in other states, including Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Q: What should I keep in my car in case of emergencies? A list of helpful items to keep in your car can be found at weather.gov/safety/ cold-before. It includes jumper cables, flashlights and a first aid kit. Especially important in the winter are a shovel, an ice scraper, and cat litter or sand for better tire traction. Q: What do I do if an ice dam has formed on my roof? If you’ve noticed an ice build-up on the eaves of your sloped roof, you’re likely not alone. The so-called “ice dams” form on the roofs of heated buildings when heavy snow buildup melts during the day and refreezes overnight. The water that backs up behind the dam can then leak into a home and cause damage to walls, ceilings, insulation and other areas. According to the University of Minnesota Extension, short-term solutions include removing snow from the roof using a roof rake or a push broom. “In an emergency situation where water is flowing into the house structure, making channels through the ice dam allows the water behind the dam to drain off the roof,” according to the university blog. To prevent ice dams from forming in the future, the National Weather Service recommends cleaning debris from your home’s gutters and down spouts, keeping snow on your roof to a minimum, and keeping gutters and down spouts clear of snow and icicles. ¿Qué es la Suerte? La suerte es un evento inesperado; un chance. La suerte puede ser buena o mala. ¿Es buena suerte ganarse la lotería? ¿Es bueno recibir una oferta de trabajo? ¿Es suerte encontrar dinero en el jardín? ¿Qué haría Ud. Con un millón de dólares? La buena suerte está generalmente relacionada a la satisfacción: la física y la espiritual. La satisfacción está relacionada a la salud del cuerpo. La salud no solo significa falta de enfermedad. Hay salud física, salud espiritual, salud emocional y salud social. Nuestra salud depende de cómo comemos, cómo nos movemos y cómo nos relacionamos con otros. Todos comemos todos los días. Lo que comemos es importante, pero saber cómo comemos hace bastante diferencia. ¿CÓMO COMEMOS NUESTROS ALIMENTOS? La dieta que típicamente se recomienda sugiere un porcentaje de carbohidratos, otro de grasa y otro de proteína. Algunos comemos más para el desayuno o almuerzo, con una cena ligera. Otros se toman tiempo para café y pasteles en la tarde. Otros se saltan el desayuno del todo; especialmente los niños que se apuran por alcanzar el ‘bus’ escolar. Esta simple rutina puede arruinar el resto del día de un estudiante. Los niños no pueden aprender nada si primero no han satisfecho la necesidad primaria del hambre. ¿Es entonces mala suerte si el niño se saca malas calificaciones? ¿CÓMO NOS MOVEMOS? El ejercicio es vital para un cuerpo sano. Aquellos que realizan trabajos físicos están en mejores condiciones … (claro, si comen regularmente bien y sanamente). La mayoría de la gente hoy en día pasa más tiempo frente a una computadora o TV, y más del 80% de escolares se la pasan sentados o echados con sus celulares participando en videojuegos amaneciéndose hasta bien noche. Las investigaciones han encontrado que el 73 porciento de adolescentes no duermen lo suficiente para mantener buena salud. La tendencia a la obesidad y la obesidad severa ha aumentado en los últimos 15 años. Los casos de diabetes han florecido con el aumento de los índices de obesidad. Los tres factores principales que conducen a la obesidad son: la falta de actividad física, comida no saludable, y el no dormir lo suficiente. Entonces, ¿es mala suerte si no nos podemos desempeñar bien? ¿CÓMO NOS RELACIONAMOS CON OTROS? • El tener amistades y otras conexiones sociales es bueno para nuestra salud y bienestar. • El pasarla solo o aislado puede afectar nuestra salud mental, emocional y física. Durante nuestras vidas, la cantidad y fuerza de nuestras relaciones afecta nuestro bienestar mental y físico. Los beneficios de las conexiones soiales y la buena salud mental son numerosos. Las pruebas confirmadas incluyen baja tasa de depresión, ansiedad, alta autoestima, mayor empatía, y relaciones de más confianza y cooperación. Las relaciones sanas y fuertes también favorecen nuestro sistema de inmunidad, lo que ayuda
a recobrarnos de enfermedades, y pudiendo aun extender nuestra vida. La buena noticia es que mientras que muchos de estos beneficios nos puede hacer más felices y contentos, también hay un efecto de flujo contínuo, donde la gente que nos rodea quiere pasar más tiempo con uno. De esta manera, la conexión social genera una argolla positiva de bienestar social, emocional y físico. La satisfacción es algo en la que podemos tratar de conseguir. El aprender los cómos, ayuda a tomar las decisiones correctas. Buenas decisiones conducen a la buena suerte. Muchos creen que el dinero trae suerte y felicidad. Sin embargo, el dinero se puede gastar inteligentemente o en tonterías; el saber qué hacer con el dinero puede hacer que la gente extienda su felicidad. El saber ahorrar para emergencias, y el evitar compras impulsivas invita a resultados más positivos. Las compras impulsivas son aquellas donde compramos algo repentina e inmediatamente, sin intención de comprarla por anticipado. Ocurre cuando el comprador se le antoja comprar, y generalmente es espontánea sin ninguna duda. Las compras impulsivas generalmente nos atrapan en confundir lo “que se quiere” y lo “que se necesita” Nos hace caer en la trampa de la publicidad, y en la de las reparaciones rápidas. Las compras impulsivas nos hunden financieramente hacia profundidades insanas. Hay que aprender a gastar el dinero sabiamente, y a considerar los riesgos de las malas inversiones. Si nos encontramos con una bonificación inesperada, es fácil caer en la tentación de gastar todo en unas vacaciones de ensueñp, un lindo coche deportivo o en algo que soñamos tener. Démonos cuenta de que lo material no es la solución para la felicidad; solo nos da un sentimiento temporal de satisfacción. ¿Tienen niños que quieren ir a la tienda apenas terminan de desenvolver los regalos navideños o de cumpleaños? Todo está en la novedad nomás. ¿CÓMO INVITAR LA BUENA SUERTE? Una actitud positiva puede atraer más experiencias positivas en nuestras vidas. “Los que dicen que pueden y los que dicen que no pueden, tienen generalmente razóns” – dijo Confucio. Al permanecer positivos, abrimos nuestra mente a oportunidades que llegan e inevitablemente aumentan nuestra propia suerte. • Examinemos las decisiones que tomamos. • Estudiemos nuestras situaciones y busquemos maneras de mejorarlas • Conozcámonos a nosotros mismos; analicemos nuestra manera de pensar, y la manera en que funciona nuestro cuerpo • Investiguemos nuestras opciones antes de comprometernos con decisiones • Hay que darle prioridad a la velocidad que a la ambición. • Hay que crear un plan La buena suerte se puede atraer en la vida cambiando nuestra energía, la actitud, el pensamiento, y nuestras acciones hacia lo positivo, cuidándose a sí mismo, dando sin esperar nada, y manteniendo buenas relaciones.

What is Luck? Luck is any unexpected occurrence; a chance. Luck can be good or bad. Is winning the lottery good luck? Is it good to get a job offer? Are you lucky if you find cash on the lawn? What would you do with a million dollars? Good luck is usually related to satisfaction; physical and spiritual. Satisfaction is related to the body’s health. Health does not only mean lack of illness. There is physical health, spiritual health, emotional health and social health. Our health depends on how we eat, how we move, and how we relate to others. We all eat every day. What we eat is important, but knowing how we eat makes a difference. HOW WE EAT OUR FOOD The typical recommended diet suggests a percentage of carbohydrates, fat, and protein. Some of us eat more for breakfast and lunch, and a light meal for dinner. Others have coffee time with pastries early in the afternoon. Others skip breakfast altogether; specially kids that have to rush to catch the school bus. This simple routine can mess up the rest of a student’s day. Children cannot learn anything if they first have not satisfied a primary need, which in this case is hunger. Is it bad luck if the child gets a bad grade? HOW WE MOVE Exercise is vital to a healthy body. Those that perform physical work are better off … (if they eat regularly and healthy) Most people nowadays spend time working in front of a computer, and over 80% of the school age children sit or lie down with their cell phones playing video games way into the night. Research has found that 73 percent of high school students regularly do not get a healthy amount of sleep. Obesity and severe obesity trends have generally increased over the past 15 years. The diabetes cases have bloomed with the increase in the rates of obesity. The three leading factors leading to obesity are: Lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating behaviors, and not getting enough good-quality sleep. ... Is it bad luck if we can’t perform efficiently? HOW WE RELATE TO OTHERS • Having friends and other social connections is good for our health and wellbeing. • Being lonely or isolated can affect our mental, emotional and physical health. Throughout our lives, the number and strength of our relationships affect our mental and physical wellbeing. The benefits of social connections and good mental health are numerous. Proven links include lower rates of anxiety and depression, higher self-esteem, greater empathy, and more trusting and cooper-
ative relationships. Strong, healthy relationships can also help to strengthen our immune system, help you recover from disease, and may even lengthen your life. The good news is that while many of these benefits can make us happier and more contented, there’s also a flow-on effect, whereby people around us will want to spend time with us. In this way, social connectedness generates a positive feedback loop of social, emotional and physical wellbeing. Satisfaction is something we can work on getting. Learning about the “Hows” helps us make the right decisions. Good choices lead to good luck. Most people believe that money brings luck and happiness. Money however, can be spent foolishly or wisely; knowing what to do with money makes people extend their happiness. Knowing to save for emergencies and avoid impulse purchases invites positive outcomes.. Impulse buying is the sudden and immediate purchase of a product without any pre-shopping intention. It occurs after shoppers experience an urge to buy, and is often spontaneous without any hesitation. Impulse buying traps us into confusing “wants” and “needs.” It makes us fall for advertising. Usually traps us into believing in quick fixes. Impulse buying sinks our finances into unhealthy depths. We need to learn how to spend money wisely, and consider the risks of bad investments. If we find ourselves with an unexpected windfall, it is easy to become tempted into spending everything in a dream vacation, a fancy sports car or an item we always dreamed of having. We need to realize that material things are not the solution to happiness; they only provide a temporary feeling of satisfaction. Do you have children that want to go to the store right after they finish opening all their Christmas or birthday presents?
HOW TO INVITE GOOD LUCK A positive attitude can attract more positive experiences into your life. “He who says he can and he who says he can’t are both usually right”, said Confucius. Carolina Pikacho Fronteras de la Notiica - EFEsalud La obesidad infantil afecta al 10 % de los niños y niñas de entre 2 y 17 años. El sobrepeso y la obesidad se han acentuado durante el confinamiento y han afectado especialmente a los más pequeños, quienes se enfrentan a una vida más sedentaria y de peor alimentación Nuestros hábitos evolucionan con el cambio de la sociedad. La ingesta de productos azucarados, dietas poco recomendables y la escasa actividad física cada vez están más presente, sobre todo en los más pequeños. La obesidad infantil es una de las patologías que más preocupan a los profesionales médicos, un problema que no solo deriva de la mala gestión de nuestras costumbres, sino también de la carga hereditaria y la gran influencia que tienen los padres. Según investigaciones publicadas más del 80 % de la población tendrá al menos sobrepeso en 2030, y con ello aumentarán todos los problemas de salud. “Ciertas actitudes se interiorizan desde muy pequeños y se acaban trasladando a la edad adulta mediante ese factor de imitación”, explica el doctor y asesor nutricionista del proyecto COPA COVAP, Antonio Escribano, respecto a la influencia de los padres en los hábitos de los hijos. “La idea es bonita porque supone de entrada hacer ejercicio y comer bien dando una serie de instrucciones para toda la vida”, recalca Antonio Escribano, doctor especialista en Endocrinología, Nutrición y Medicina de la Educación Física y el Deporte, a quien EFEsalud ha entrevistado. ¿Por qué se descuida la alimentación de los más pequeños? Los niños son imitadores de los comportamientos de los padres y si ven que sus padres hacen una cosa ellos la hacen igual. Hoy en día los padres comen mal, hay casas que la verdura ni la prueban y la ingesta de alcohol es desorbitada. Los niños toman esa referencia que creen que está bien. Los pequeños responden muy mal a la verbalización, pero responden bien a la ejemplificación. Ir a favor es sencillo e ir a contracorriente es más complicado. ¿Por qué los niños son más vagos para cuidar su estado físico? Por el aumento de las tecnologías y el sedentarismo. La miopía infantil ha crecido más de un 30 % en los
últimos años. Esto significa que el ojo humano no está preparado para estar delante de una pantalla todo el día. Estos problemas de visión indican un sedentarismo que hace muchos años no existía. Los niños hacen deporte, pero no como una actividad continuada. Antes jugaban en las calles, ahora solo asisten a su clase de fútbol y al llegar a casa no hacen nada más. Comen mucho, peor y se mueven menos. Si estas tres cosas se revirtieran la obesidad infantil remitiría. ¿Qué problemas de salud futuros pueden tener los niños con obesidad? Sobre todo, problemas metabólicos. La diabetes tipo 2 antiguamente solo se daba en gente mayor, y esporádicamente, pero hoy en día es
frecuente en gente joven. También hay problemas cardiovasculares, de tensión alta, colesterol, problemas de hígado, es decir, problemas a nivel de funcionalidad del organismo. La obesidad es un lastre que adelanta que muchos problemas genéticos se van a producir e instaura otros problemas que una persona no iba a tener nunca. Es más, una de cada cuatro muertes es responsabilidad de una mala alimentación. ¿De qué forma ha afectado el confinamiento en los hábitos de las familias y sus hijos? La gente ha preferido comer y comer antes que leerse el Quijote. Se han dedicado a cocinar mal, a competir por ver quién hacia la mejor tarta, y esto ha sido un problema. Si comes grasa y no la quema engor-
das. En el confinamiento se acabaron los utensilios y los ingredientes necesarios para hacer bollería. ¿Cuál es la receta de la vida? Nosotros somos omnívoros, es decir, necesitamos a otro ser vivo de alguna manera para obtener energía. Debemos comer entre 3 y 4 piezas de fruta y tomar verdura 2 veces al día. Con eso ya tenemos el 60 % de la alimentación. La carne y el pescado debe tomarse 4-5 veces a la semana; el huevo de 3-5 días; la pasta, arroz y patatas dependiendo del ejercicio físico. Si haces más pues más, si haces menos hay que reducir. Los lácteos obviamente todos los días y los frutos secos un puñado bien pequeño al día. Esta es la receta de la vida, la clave de una vida entera.

La propuesta de Nissan para los entusiastas: 2024Z Nismo POR: ROGER RIVERO
Nissan alborotó a los entusiastas de sus autos deportivos cuando el pasado año “resucito” al Nissan Z, luego de un corto periodo de ausencia. En el 2019 Nissan presentó el 370Z 50 Aniversario, el último de sus legendarios autos que le acompañaría un número precediendo la letra “Z”. El primero fue el Datsun 240Z, que llegó en el 1970 para redefinir la idea que los compradores estadounidenses tenían de los autos deportivos. El 240Z, con 151 caballos de potencia y alcanzando las 60 millas o 100 kilómetros en 8.0 segundos, fue recibido con entusiasmo, tanto que, en los primeros cuatro años, se vendieron más de 160,000 unidades. Heredero de ese linaje, y en momentos en que los autos deportivos con motores de gasolina provocan vértigo a los ambientalistas, recibimos el 2024 Nissan Z Nismo, una versión de alto rendimiento del Nissan Z.
¿Qué hay de nuevo?
Mientras que el resto de la gama Nissan Z se mantiene prácticamente sin cambios para el modelo 2024, el nuevo Z Nismo supone un gran paso adelante con respecto al Z estándar. Destaca por tener más potencia, un chasis más rígido, mayores frenos y mejor aerodinámica, convirtiendo al Nissan Z Nismo en una elección atrayente, incluso, sin ofre-
cer la opción de una caja de cambios manual.
¿Cómo se ve desde afuera?
El Nissan Z sigue siendo uno de los deportivos más atractivos que encontramos en las carreteras actuales. Su mayor encanto radica en la maestría de los diseñadores para combinar elementos clásicos y modernos, en un auto que torna miradas a su paso. Ejemplo típico son los faros LED en forma de semicírculos del Nissan Z 2024, un diseño inspirado en el 240ZG, un modelo de los años 70 que solamente estuvo disponible en Japón. Aunque los modelos Sport y Performance mantienen el mismo aspecto para el modelo
2024, el Nismo introduce cambios que mejoran el flujo de aire y la carga aerodinámica, además de diferenciar visualmente este modelo de los demás niveles de acabado.
¿Y por dentro?
Tanto el Nissan Z como la versión Nismo ofrecen espacio para solo dos pasajeros, con reducida capacidad de almacenamiento, nada extraño para un deportivo de esta clase. En el interior replican la fórmula exterior, mezclando una gran cantidad de indicadores, interruptores y otros elementos estilo retro, presentados en una nueva disposición con pantallas y tecnologías modernas.
Nissan, incluso ha retocado el cuadro de instrumentos para diferenciar el modelo Nismo de sus hermanos de base, con gráficos rojos y abundantes logotipos Nismo Los asientos Recaro tapizados en cuero Alcántara del Z Nismo son mucho mejores que los de serie del Z, proporcionando un excelente refuerzo para la conducción agresiva, aunque los ajustes son manuales y algo limitados. Los indicadores auxiliares de forma circular de la parte superior del salpicadero, que muestran la presión de sobrealimentación, la velocidad del turbo y el voltaje de la batería, son elementos retro poco necesarios, que incluso casi ningún deportivo tiene, pero no reconocer que se ven estupendos, sería una gran injusticia.
Tecnología y seguridad
Algunos deportivos solo fingen que la tecnología en los autos existe, como es el caso del Jaguar F-Type que probamos hace poco. Nissan ha hecho un buen trabajo modernizando al Z en este aspecto. El sistema de info entretenimiento con pantalla táctil de 8 pulgadas es de serie, mientras que los modelos superiores como el Z Nismo incorporan una mayor de 9 pulgadas o 23 centímetros. Viene con Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa y Android Auto y ejecutan el mismo sistema qué encontramos en modelos recientes de Nissan.

USCIS Lanza la Colaboración y Presentación de Registros H-1B en Línea

Carolina Pikacho Fronteras de la Notiica - USCIS l Servicio de Ciudadanía e Inmigración de Estados Unidos anunció el próximo lanzamiento de un paquete de mejoras en la experiencia del cliente para la temporada de visas H-1B sujetas a la cantidad máxima reglamentaria. Se espera que las medidas aumenten la eficiencia y faciliten la colaboración entre las organizaciones y sus representantes legales. USCIS lanzará cuentas organizacionales para presentaciones sin límite máximo y para la temporada de H-1B sujetas a la cantidad máxima reglamentaria para el año fiscal 2025. La introducción de cuentas organizacionales permitirá que varias personas dentro de una organización, como una empresa u otra entidad comercial, y sus representantes legales colaboren y preparen registros H-1B en el Formulario I- 129, Petición para Trabajador No Inmigrante y el Formulario I-907, Solicitud de Procesamiento Prioritario
asociados. "USCIS siempre busca maneras de mejorar y agilizar nuestros procesos y este es un gran paso adelante", dijo la directora de USCIS, Ur M. Jaddou. “Una vez que lanzamos las cuentas organizacionales y la presentación en línea de las peticiones I-129 H-1B, todo el ciclo de vida del H-1B se vuelve completamente electrónico, desde el registro, si corresponde, hasta nuestra decisión final y el envío al Departamento de Estado". Los 10 atletas mejor pagados del mundo 2023 Por Gerardo Anaya Fronteras de la Noticia - forbes.com.mx Después de un año y medio decepcionante con el Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo saltó al Al Nassr de Arabia Saudita con un nuevo contrato enorme en enero, casi duplicando su salario anual como jugador a un estimado de 75 millones de dólares (mdd). Los golfistas estrella Phil Mickelson y Dustin Johnson hicieron su movimiento el año pasado, dejando el PGA Tour por el LIV Golf respaldado por Arabia Saudita y decenas de millones de dólares en garantías iniciales. Según los informes, Lionel Messi está considerando transferirse a Arabia Saudita este verano y ya trabaja con el país como embajador de turismo, un arreglo multimillonario que condujo a una suspensión de dos semanas de su club actual, Paris Saint-Germain, el martes después de que él práctica perdida debido a un viaje promocional no autorizado. Al parecer, según cuenta la Enciclopedia Británica, se trataba de una orquesta mecánica que se creó para el emperador. Posteriormente, estos ingenios fueron evolucionando con verdaderas proezas técnicas en la Ilustración. No obstante, el verdadero impulso de la robótica llegó en el siglo XX, cuando los robots industriales aterrizaron en las cadenas de montaje de vehículos y transformaron la industria del automóvil. Por fin, en el siglo XXI, los robots con inteligencia artificial supusieron un nuevo paso en el desarrollo de robots capaces de aprender de forma autónoma. Se considera que el primer robot móvil con inteligencia artificial y capaz de manejarse de forma autónoma fue una máquina llamada Shakey presentada en 1968. Se trataba de un dispositivo muy avanzado para su época, ya que incorporaba cámaras de televisión, sensores láser y de colisión, y conexión por radio a un ordenador. Sin embargo, el término “inteligencia artificial” se remonta a una década antes de la apa-

rición de Shakey, ya que fue acuñado en una conferencia de la Universidad de Dartmouth en EE. UU. allá por 1956. En los años setenta y ochenta el desarrollo de la inteligencia artificial sufrió cierto estancamiento, ya que se pensaba que los retos que planteaba eran insuperables. Es lo que se denominó “invierno de la IA”. Por suerte, en los años noventa el interés en la IA resurgió con fuerza gracias al desarrollo de Deep Blue, una inteligencia artificial que derrotó a Kasparov jugando al ajedrez. Esa evolución se prolongaría hasta nuestros días con la llegada de ChatGPT y las IA multimodales. Así, el fabricante de Robots Boston Dynamics ya ha sellado un acuerdo para incorporar la IA de OpenAI en sus máquinas. Serán robots con inteligencia capaces de aprender por su cuenta y mejorar su desempeño con el tiempo. En la actualidad, hay diversas compañías que están desarrollando prototipos más o menos avanzados, algunos de ellos son humanoides bípedos, mientras otros son cuadrúpedos al estilo de los “perros” de Boston Dynamics.
