Do You Suffer Chronic...

newsbriefs

Working with a

k c a B ain P

By Rev. Maggie Batt

I

n my Chakra Intuitive Workshop, I bring out my crystal pendulum. Using a pendulum is a dowsing and divinatry technique. Essentially, your higher-self, spirit—whatever you want to call it—you in perfection KNOWS the answers to things that your monkey mind may be blocking. It is also an excellent tool for finding increased energy such as water in the earth (dowsing with rods), higher vibrational items such as crystals, healthy food/drink/herbs/supplements, and our own energy centers, the Chakras. Using my pendulum, I locate where our chakras are and how to determine a healthy spin. Those with the strongest energy have a very strong clockwise spin, while some weaker chakras may have a back-and-forth motion or a very small spin circumference.

Do you live with any or all of the following? • Back pain due to sciatica • Sleepless Nights • Back or neck injury because of an accident • Back or leg pain when seated. • Numbness in your hands or toes • Degenerative Disc Disease

I give my students new pendulums to play with and they are always amazed at the truth of this concept. Yep folks, we’re made of energy! This then helps them to determine which centers they want to work on healing. Pendulums are also helpful in answering “yes” or “no” questions. I first start with cleansing my pendulum, if crystal, with Reiki (salt water also works) and then asking, “What is your answer for

NO? What is your answer for YES?” Typically one is back-and-forth, while the other spins in a circle. If it moves haphazardly or alternates between the two, the answer may not have manifested yet. Maybe you are confused or indecisive and need to do more research or meditation (soul searching) first. Hold the pendulum so it hangs about two inches (5 cm.) above your knees while sitting. Hold the thread between your fingers, focusing your mind on your question. Remember it must be a clear question that asks for a “yes” or “no” response. Also keep your mind focused on the question. Your being KNOWS. We only need to stop and ask. You can ask a series of questions to gain answers to a bigger one, such as “What is my life path?” Instead ask, “Should I stay in (my city)? Am I to learn something new? Should I look for a new job? Is (dream city) where I need to be?” Good luck on your inner journey. To learn more fun techniques, come to my Chakra Intuitive Workshop on November 17th in St. Petersburg, Florida. Learn more about Maggie Batt, Reiki and so much more at www.wheelsoflight.org.

The good news is that if you suffer from any of the ailments above we can offer a new solution to your problems which you previously believed you either had to live with or go through painful surgeries to correct. Contact the location nearest you: Pinellas

LifeWorks’ Special for Autism & ADHD Consultation

I

n recent years there has been a staggering increase in the number of children who are diagnosed as autistic or having ADHD. It is now estimated that 1 in 88* children in the U.S. have autism spectrum disorders, and a classroom with 30 students will have between 1 and 3 children with ADHD. Many of these children are prescribed drugs such as Ritalin, Paxil, Resperdal, etc., which may mask the symptoms and not remedy the underlying cause. LifeWorks Wellness Center is happy to promote the fact that there are natural protocols which can help to handle these issues. For the month of November, LifeWorks is offering new patients a $50 discount off an initial consultation with Dr. George Springer, DC, NMD, DCBCN, who has 32 years experience in utilizing natural solutions to correct these problems in children.

Dr. Springer, explains “Virtually every child I see with ADD, ADHD or autism has a significant problem with their digestive system, whether they are aware of it or not. Also, many of these children appear to have a detoxification system that is slow in removing heavy metals from their bodies. The toxin levels accumulate and cause injury to the brain and other systems, resulting in the problems we see in autism- spectrum children. At LifeWorks, we take a wholistic approach to identify all of the factors which may be contributing to the problem, and we use natural solutions to help correct them. This offer is valid from November 1-30, 2012 and applies to new patients only. To book an appointment, call Tamora at 727-466-6789 and for more information about the clinic visit www.lifeworkswellnesscenter.com. LifeWorks is located at 301Turner Street, Clearwater, FL. newsbriefs Basket Brigade is a group of 100% volunteers donating and delivering tailor made gift baskets of food for a Thanksgiving dinner to families in need. Steps to Creating a

Heart of Perfect Health An Interview with Brenda Watson, C.N.C.

Brenda Watson, a dynamic health advocate who possesses degrees in Naturopathy and Nutrition as well as over 20 years of experience in her career, offers sound “bites” of health wisdom to a countless number of people who are motivated to lead healthier lives. Overcoming illness motivates many people that enter the health and wellness industry, and Brenda Watson is one of those people. As a child, she was adversely affected by antibiotics and migraine headaches. In high school, she suffered from chronic fatigue. Like many, she thought that traditional medicine held the answer.Yet “It obviously didn’t for me,” Brenda explains. “So I started working on myself, and over a period of time I just got better and better. The road to perfect health is paved with good intestines. Brenda Watson, The Road to Perfect Health

Motivated by a desire to help others, Brenda felt compelled to educate herself more and to begin apprenticing to a clinician. Brenda continued gaining education and also intensely studied with the premiere health and wellness teachers of our era. This inspired her to establish in Florida natural healthcare clinics that specialized in cleansing and detoxification. As Brenda’s awareness of the link between digestive health and overall wellness grew, she wrote her first book, Renew Your Life, in 2002. Renew Your Life sold more than 100,000 copies. Brenda has since written six books on digestive health. Although a New York Times best-selling author, Brenda shares her knowledge through a variety of other media outlets as well. She maintains a blog and website, both of which feature

informative articles and videos. She is also a popular presenter on PBS. This month PBS will feature Brenda’s newest show, “Heart of Perfect Health.” As Brenda discusses in her show and in her interview this month with Tampa Bay Wellness Magazine, an unhealthy digestive system can negatively affect the cardiovascular system. By educating yourself, eating healthily, and taking probiotics, however, you can become your own health advocate. Just taking the first step can take you one step closer to a “Heart of Perfect Health.” Cardiovascular disease is a serious concern for both men and women. What is the relationship between digestive and cardiovascular health? It is what my new PBS show, “Heart of Perfect Health,” is on.

. . I had an interesting interview with Dr. Dwight Lundell, who is a heart surgeon, and wrote the book The cure for Heart Disease. . . He said to me: I was a surgeon, and I was one of the first surgeons who was doing a triple bypass . . . what happened is when I would look in the artery and see the cholesterol, what I saw was a reddening, and I attributed it to a sunburning of the arteries. And I said to him, I can’t believe you just said that, because that’s what I talk about with the gut lining, with leaky gut. Proteins and toxins can enter your bloodstream, and they circulate. And this circulating toxic load is what creates heart disease. Why? Because you begin to develop inflammation—silent inflammation in the body. We don’t relate that to the gut. So for example, if your cholesterol is elevated, they give you a Statin

drug, but the Statin drug really isn’t for elevated cholesterol; it’s for the silent inflammation. So where does the silent inflammation come from? You kind of have to back up. Look at it like this: if you slam your finger in the door and it swells up, that’s a good thing, because the body is healing itself. But what if you took that sore thumb and put it inside your body anywhere and you couldn’t see it or feel it but it had progressively developed, in one instance into heart disease? What are the markers of heart illness/disease? One marker is cholesterol. The other marker is high blood pressure. Another marker is sugar problems—elevated sugar. You don’t have to be a diabetic though. . . Those are Continued on page 14

Heart of Perfect Health An Interview with Brenda Watson, C.N.C.

the three markers that you have an inflammation inside your body but you’re not relating that inflammation because you can’t see it or feel it. . . That eventually develops the sunburn in the arteries. When your digestive system is semipermeable, meaning your digestive nutrients enter your bloodstream, you don’t have undigested foods entering your bloodstream. It’s like a mesh screen all along the gut lining. How do peoples’ digestive systems become inflamed? If you are digesting your foods and things are going well and there’s no inflammation, then those inflammatory proteins don’t enter your bloodstream. So what rips it up? Antibiotics, pesticides, and ibuprofen. Peoples’ gut becomes inflamed. It’s like the screen on the window of your house. If it was intact it would just let air in and not bugs. But when that screen has holes in it, then these inflammatory proteins from undigested foods and pesticides enter your bloodstream and they circulate around your body, creating inflammation. Now you ask, well then why does the cholesterol get elevated? Well, cholesterol is your helper. So the reason that cholesterol elevates is because your body is signaling that there’s inflammation, so it needs to be carried to wherever that inflammation is. Case in point: the arteries. So there you have the arteries with elevated

cholesterol, simply because the cholesterol is just in response to the inflammation. It’s sending out a signal: I need help. So it sends it into the artery and over time this develops into atherosclerosis or heart disease. Why do people hold so many misconceptions about digestive and hearth health? It’s a lack of education. People eat food and swallow it. I just did four segments with Suzanne Somers on her new show coming out on Lifetime. I did it on the H.O.P.E. formula. One segment I did on just simple digestion. Do you know what happens to proteins, starches and fats—the three foods that we’re eating—once you swallow them? No. People say their “stomach” when they point to their intestines. . . There is just a whole disconnect from people when they eat something knowing what they’re actually getting out of it. Protein has to go to amino acids, starches to glucose, and fats from large molecules down to small so that they can pass through the gut lining and the bloodstream. People just don’t get that. They don’t get that process. And it’s real simple. Can you tell us about your next upcoming PBS show? My big message in the show is being your own health advocate. Being your own health advocate means you know your numbers. You know you’re consistently checking blood sugar, blood

coverstory pressure, and your cholesterol (your LDL, which I call your “lousy cholesterol” in the show). So you know those numbers; and those are three markers right there, plus of course weight. . . If you’re watching those markers, keeping your digestive system healthy, and your weight is good, then your ability to prevent heart disease is profound.

Probiotics are what I call the multivitamin for the gut, because they make vitamins inside of you, as well as many other things. Tip number two is again, like I said, to start becoming your own health advocate. Stop putting your health in someone else’s hands. Read articles. Talk to people who are in health food stores. . . There’s a lot of noise about what’s good and what’s bad. But there are some basic gut principles. Basic gut health is real simple.

What take-away tips can you offer people as they learn about the connection of the digestive and cardiovascular systems?

My third tip is that diet is 80 percent of being healthy. I totally believe that. . Hundreds of people call in here every day. . They want me to give them something to overcome their bad health in a pill and it does not work. Diet is important.

High potency probiotics are the number one thing that they need to start looking at.

Fourth, learn how to manage sugar. We’ve thought of fats, and the low fat and high carbohydrate message that’s

been going on since the 70s is now coming back to haunt us. It’s really about sugar. The key is learning that carbohydrates turn to sugar. You’ve got to start counting them. What are your plans for both the short and long term? My future is in continuing to educate people, and by that I mean educate the people that want to be educated. People ask me all the time, “Well why would someone do a diet and lifestyle change or start taking supplements?” Usually pain motivates people. They get into some kind of health calamity . . . That’s the motivating factor. I want to be there for those people that want to change their life, even if it’s that one little spark that they got something, that they could make that first step, because it’s all about making the first step. ♥

Surprisingly Unhealthy Foods What to Choose Instead!

W

hat to eat? Seems like a simple question, but it’s one that can vex even the most savvy eater, especially when trying to make sense of food packaging. How many times do you browse the grocery aisles trying to discern the “best” pasta, cereal or bread? Most concerned healthy eaters know the obvious, like there is no fruit in “Froot Loops.” But what about “grown up foods”? You know, those labeled as “whole grain,” “all natural” or “healthy”? Food Label Foolishness There is much confusion for consumers who rely on the front of food packages to make their choices. Although “natural” should mean no artificial colors or ingredients, the term “natural” isn’t a guarantee that the product contains whole wheat—or any fruits or vegetables at all. Cut through the confusion and read the package from back to front - read the ingredient label first! Heed these tips to shop smart amid:

Natural: In your quest to find foods that nourish, do you purchase foods labeled “100% Natural,” “Healthy,” or “No Artificial Ingredients” without actually reading the ingredients? We’re at a disadvantage compared with countries such as Canada where labeling laws are more stringent and specific. The USDA says that the “natural” claim means that the food does not contain any artificial ingredients, coloring ingredients, or chemical preservatives, and, in the case of meat and poultry, is minimally processed. However, the meat may be full of “natural flavors” and “naturally raised” doesn’t mean the animal isn’t raised on a factory farm. It also doesn’t mean that the animal has access to the outdoors. A can of iced tea can read “100% Natural Tea,” however the ingredients include filtered water, high fructose corn syrup and lemon flavoring. That’s not natural to me. Multi-grain: From breads to crackers to hot and cold cereals, “multi-grain” does not mean whole grain—it means just about

16 November 2012 • Tampa Bay Wellness

nothing at all, except that the product contains an undefined amount of different types of grains. What you really want to look for is “100% whole grain,” so you’re assured that you’re getting all of the good nutrition from that grain’s kernel—the nutrients, including vitamin E and magnesium, and fiber. Some packages distract the consumer by touting impressive amounts of vitamins and minerals, even fiber. But, be a savvy consumer and look at the ingredients first, if you’re interested in buying products without artificial colorings, flavors, excessive sugar and salt. Be sure the first ingredient is “100% whole,” either wheat or other grain, and remember, a teaspoon of sugar equals 4 grams. To know what you’re eating, read the serving size first, then the calories per serving, how much fiber and then how much sugar per serving (for example, a serving of shredded wheat and bran mini wheats is 1 ¼ cup, has 200 calories, 7 grams of fiber and less than 1 gram of sugar!). Low Glycemic Index: Where

“low carb” left off, the “low glycemic index” has taken over. The glycemic index ranks foods based on the how quickly they elevate blood sugar levels compared to the same quantity of a reference food (pure glucose or white bread). In addition to not considering the amount of food usually eaten, the GI doesn’t include the amount of fiber in the food. A medium baked potato has a higher GI (85) than a Snickers bar (55), and who’d say a candy bar is better than a baked potato? The quantity of food represented by that ranking is always 50 grams, regardless of how much food (volume) it takes to eat 50 grams; it’s real easy to eat 50 carbohydrate grams of cookies (7 small cookies) but much tougher to eat 50 carbohydrate grams of carrots (5 cups of carrots) in one sitting! In the context of “healthy” ignore the glycemic index and focus on whole foods, with fiber, in portions that are right for you. Organic: The truth is, if it’s sugar, it’s sugar—organic or not, high fructose corn syrup, honey, cane sugar or white, maple syrup, or agave nectar—all nutritive sweeteners have approximately 16-20 calories per teaspoon, and negligible nutrition—said differently, they are empty calories. I took a cruise through the breakfast aisle, and found “organic toaster pastries” but compared to conventional toaster pastries, there’s just as much sugar, and making it “organic” doesn’t make it lower in calories or higher in fiber. If you’re looking for a healthy breakfast that’s convenient and portable, choose a toaster waffle with whole grains. “Free” foods: Yes, we want to be free to eat what we like, and for many, that means fake foods that imitate sweets and desserts. However, foods labeled “low fat” or “fat free” does not make it calorie free.—manufacturers add sugar to add texture and bulk lost www.tampabaywellness.com

from removing fat. A “sugar free” cookie may have a similar calorie count compared to the regular too. So, the most important thing to look at when you’re reading a label is not the calories, fat or sugar, but always, it’s theserving size that must be read first. Note: “Fat Free” means less than a half a gram of fat per serving, “low fat” or “light” means less than 3 grams of fat per serving, and “reduced fat” means 25% less than the reference food. For example, Mayonnaise illustrates this perfectly. The “reference” or original mayo has 10 grams of fat per one tablespoon serving. The reduced fat version has 25% less fat, or 7.5 grams of fat per serving…still not a low fat food. But choose a “low fat” or “light” version, and you know it has 3 grams or less of fat per serving, a better choice. Buyer beware! Seemingly healthy foods such as yogurt and oatmeal may contain copious amount of added sugars; breads and crackers are often made with heart-unhealthy hydrogenated oils (trans fat). “Miracle” juices and “energy” bars, touted as healthful, are usually just vehicles for added sugars and excessive calories. Consider this representative list of some surprisingly unhealthy foods: Yogurt: Plain, low fat or nonfat yogurt is such a healthy food, because it’s a delicious low fat source of calcium, vitamin D and magnesium and protein, but many manufacturers have taken liberties with yogurt! They’ve loaded it up with excess unwanted calories. Consumers are distracted by words like “organic” and “natural” but even these words can’t undo nutritional damage from added sugars, “granola” and nuts—and more. Yogurt should have but two ingredients: milk and live cultures. Stay wholesome by staying simple, and that goes for kids’ yogurts too. www.tampabaywellness.com

Tortilla and Taco Shells: Generally low in fat, usually made from corn or wheat, or both…but read the ingredient label first, because many brands are quite high in fat, and are often made with hydrogenated fat, or trans fat (hydrogenated oils). Trans fat can raise bad cholesterol but also lower “good” HDL cholesterol. Search out better-for-you whole-wheat tortilla and taco shells made with canola or other vegetable oils. Instant oatmeal: Looking for convenience and nutrition, we make the mistake of reading the front of the package for descriptors such as “wholesome” and “nutritious”. We know not to choose sugary cold cereals but convenience packages of instant oatmeal are no exception. Read the ingredient label first—one teaspoon of sugar equals four grams: some of the “maple” or other favors have more than 12 grams per serving. Buy whole oats, microwave for a minute in a glass dish, stir in a quarter-cup of raisins, cook one more minute, and Sweet! Granola: Granola may be “natural” but it’s also a typically calorie-dense food, not nutritionally desirable if it’s full of oil and sugar. Do a little label reading in the grocery store—most flaked or “twig” cereals such as Kashi GoLean list the serving size as 3/4 – 1 cup, for about 150 calories per cup. There is no standardized serving size for cereals, and most packaged granolas’ list the serving size as a mere quartercup, with about 160 calories per serving. No one is satisfied with just a quarter-cup of cereal and usually will pour their usual cup—multiplied by four, that’s 640 calories, plus milk! Granolas typically features a good amount of oil plus a number of different sweet ingredients, some which may sound healthful, but again, sugar is sugar, and all of it, maple syrup, cane sugar,

brown sugar, cane sugar, agave nectar, honey—are recognized similarly by your body, and are all different ways to say more calories! Stick with a high fiber, lower sugar cereal, and if you like granola, use as a topping on a yogurt and fruit parfait (nonfat Greek yogurt and berries). “Miracle” Juices: The front of the package appeals to your quest for good health with words like “immune promoting” and “antioxidants”. The front label shows appealing photos of fresh fruit, but like all juice, the proof is in the fiber—and reading the nutrition facts label shows that juice contains just about none. There are no studies that show that drinking juice will prevent disease, and people who are watching their weight need to remember that calories in fruit juice are equivalent to soda—no fiber here, and a very quick way to get excess calories. Eat whole fruit, for more energy and fiber, and save your calories for fullness. ”Energy” bars: – Another name for “energy” is “calorie,” and most bars are more akin to candy bars than nutritious snacks. The first ingredient is usually refined flour (not whole grain), then sugar, sugar, and more sugar, in a myriad of guises, including corn syrup, molasses, honey and more. For sustainable energy, grab a cup of 100-calorie yogurt and stir a cup of crunchy low-sugar cereal into the cereal; make a fresh-fruit smoothie with nonfat yogurt, milk and berries, or pack a tuna sandwich on whole wheat with an orange (who says you have to have cereal for breakfast? Have lunch for breakfast and breakfast for lunch). Microwave popcorn: Popcorn is a great snack, but not when it’s loaded with hydrogenated fat (trans fat), artificial flavors and preservatives. Additives make it high in fat calories relative to volume, and often the

microwave popcorn is loaded with hydrogenated fat. Make it better! It’s so easy, with an air-popper: pop up a few cups and enjoy. For a heartier snack, toss the hot popcorn with some grated cheddar cheese. Rice cakes: Although they’re somewhat lower in calories than potato or ‘Doritos’ chips, rice cakes offer little in nutritional value and certainly little fiber, and they’re often are high in sodium and sugar (if they’re flavored). Better: whole-wheat pita chips (make your own: slice into quarters, spray with cooking spray and toast) with some hummus or peanut butter. Shop armed with information to help you read beyond the packaging and make weight-wise choices. And, of course, always shop with a list, never shop when you’re hungry, and read the ingredient label first. These three smart strategies help you keep the focus on healthy, good for you foods (that taste good, too). Making weight control second nature means shopping purposely, refusing to be swayed by advertising, and taking the time to enjoy the flavor of real food! Your payoff will be better taste, improved nutrition and good health. to be What I’m about to tell you is not going to be pretty. It’s not going glamorous. But it’s real and it is time. It needs to be said. This is my story.

Confessions of an Ex-Anorexic Chocoholic From Food Abuse to Personal Trainer and Nutrition Educator

M

y name is Tracie. Today I am a personal trainer and run marathons. However, prior to that I had a very long road with food - abusing food and hating myself and my body for as long as I can remember. At some point in my life I have done everything with food you can imagine. I binge ate. I made myself throw up. I starved myself. I snuck food. I hid food. I refused to eat food for insanely long periods of time. You name it, I did it. I was obese in elementary school, at 5’2 weighing in at 165 lbs. No, this wasn’t my parents fault. This was all me. I ate lunches at school and then would come home and have 2 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as an after school snack along with any forms of desert I could get my hands onto. My parents did not condone this but they were at work on our farm so they didn’t even know.

My Mom tried to hide the desert food by putting it in the freezer in the basement but I would just defrost it and eat it anyway. I got very good about opening the boxes and sliding the food out without the box even looking like it had been opened. At Easter I would sneak into my brothers and sisters rooms and steal their candy while hoarding my own. I drank more chocolate milkshakes than anyone can even fathom and I became best friends with a girl whos family owned a convenient store where I could eat my heart out day in and day out. I had nothing to worry about. I mean, I knew I was fat but I had a plan and I had it under control. I had planned from a very young age that if the weight didn’t miraculously come off on its own (I mean, my older sister and younger brother were thin so I didn’t have to be fat…I had convinced myself for so long that eventually the weight

would just come off ) I going to lose all my weight sometime before my 9th grade year. Like I said, nothing to worry about. It was all going to be just fine. Well, 8th grade came and went and my miracle weight loss never arrived. That was not ok! Now it was time to take matters into my own hands. I spent my summer before going into 9th grade all by myself, at home, only seeing 1 single friend, my best friend. Why? Because I was too busy working out. I worked out 3 times a day, every single day that summer. I never skipped. Not once. I also never ate. It started out that I would eat a half a cauliflower sandwich and ½ of a diet A&W Rootbeer every day. That lasted about a week or two, max. Then I just pretended to be making sandwiches and eating them when I would actually hide them in the back

of the fridge in paper towel and throw them away when nobody was looking. I was finally losing weight. It was actually starting to come off me like wildfire. I was doing it! I wasn’t going to be the fat girl in 9th grade after all and that was all that mattered. Entering into 9th grade I weighed in at 123 lbs, a total of 42 lbs lost. Remember, nobody but my best friend had seen me over summer vacation so nobody knew who I was when I went back to school. I remember sitting in my first period science class the first day of school and my teacher (who I had also had the year prior in Jr. High) said, “Well class, we have a new student joining our group. Would you like to introduce yourself?” She was looking directly at me. I said, “Mrs. Baker, are you talking to me? It’s Tracie. Tracie Legault.” Her jaw literally dropped as well as did www.tampabaywellness.com

the rest of my classmates. That is how different I looked in those 2 months that we had been out. I took her reaction as a huge compliment. People were talking to me telling me how great I looked. It was such a nice change from the prior years. I felt popular for the first time in my life and it was all because of my weight. At that moment, I swore off food forever. This was the end of August. Fast forward to November. I really did swear off food. I was now down to 83 lbs. I had lost another 40 lbs in 3 months. I was literally skin and bones. I remember being so cold all the time. My body had started to grow a baby fine layer of hair on my body as a defense mechanism to help keep me warm. It hurt to sit down as my bones were protruding. I didn’t care because I didn’t see it. My parents were desperate. They tried everything. My Mom took me to a nutritionist and she begged me to start eating. The nutritionist tried to tell me all the reasons why I needed to eat but all I could do at the time was look at her thinking she needed to lose a little weight. In my mind at the time, everyone was overweight. There was no chance I was going to listen to anyone else because I knew what I was doing. My parents monitored my every move. They did the best they could but I wasn’t having any of it. They tried to make me eat breakfast every day before going to school. I would sit there with their eyes staring at me. It didn’t bother me. I could do this showdown all day if I had to. Not a big deal for me at this point. I wasn’t ever hungry. I was way beyond that. Mind www.tampabaywellness.com

over matter I kept telling myself. Eventually they would have to go to work and I would have won again. Or so I thought. By December I was starting to forget things and I was sleeping a lot. I would have to go to bed by 7pm to have any chance of waking up by 6am to go to school. My hair was falling out. All the friends I thought I had back in August at 123 lbs now wanted nothing to do with me because I was crazy and scary looking. They were afraid to be around me and didn’t want to accidentally hurt me. I wasn’t allowed to be on the basketball team (besides no uniforms fit) and I wasn’t allowed to participate in phys ed per doctors orders. At this point I was popular alright. I was popular because I was the girl with anorexia. It was getting close to Christmas break at school when it happened. My school did this thing called “Candy Grams” where you buy a candy cane and tie a note to it and then it was passed out to who ever you intended to receive it. Sometimes people signed who it was from and sometimes they kept it a secret. Well, I received a Candy Gram. I was very excited because like I said, at this point I didn’t have any friends so it was nice to think someone might actually like me. I opened my Candy Gram card and read it. It read, “I wanted to send this to you this year because I don’t know if you will be around next year. I love you. Kimberly.” Tears flooded my eyes. My heart went into my throat. Kimberly is my sister. She never really showed her emotions to me while we were in school so for her to send this to me was huge. The fact that she thought I might die scared her enough to reach out to me.

Confessions of an Anorexic Chocoholic From Food Abuse to Personal Trainer and Nutrition Educator Continued from page 19.

For her to be afraid of this hit me upside the head like a ton of bricks. This was real. This could really happen. It wasn’t all in the doctor’s heads. Death wasn’t what I had planned on and it took hearing it from my sister to realize it was a real possibility. This was my first turning point. Fast forward about 12 months, now 16 years old. I was an all or nothing type of person, many diagnosed anorexics are. So, you can probably imagine what happened next. Once my stomach started handling the few spoonfuls of food (because to me, this felt like Thanksgiving dinner in my stomach) I started to eat

more and more, to the point where food was again all I could think about, but this time it was eating it and not depriving myself of it. I wasn’t eating healthy things; I was eating things that I had deprived myself of for quite a while. I was eating like every day was my last day on earth. And it caught up, quickly. Tenth grade high school dance. Again, I don’t have a date. This time now I am 190 lbs. Who am I and how did I let this happen? This began my binge and purge cycle, my “I’m going on a diet tomorrow” cycle, my fasting cycles, my trying diet pills cycles, my liquid only diet cycles, etc. You name it, I did it. This lasted throughout my high school years. I was up and down throughout and somehow I managed to graduate at 132 lbs.

20 November 2012 • Tampa Bay Wellness

Do you see a pattern here? Throughout all these stages I never dealt with my food issues. I never learned how to eat healthy. I never learned the purpose of food and the nutrients I needed. I didn’t take the time to educate myself to do that. Instead, I looked in magazines and watch TV ads that told me the quick ways to get thin. Well, they took there toll on my body. I had kept this pattern up throughout my college years and a little while after. I entered college at 132 lbs and by my sophomore year I was 155 lbs, then as a junior I was 120, senior 140, etc. One day I was driving down the road after taking the newest fat loss pill that came on the market when all of a sudden it felt like someone had hit me upside the head with a baseball bat. I literally heard a “pop” inside my head. My vision started to blur. My sense of depth was off. I felt like things were a lot farther away then they were. My peripheral vision was distorted. Trees alongside the road looked like they were swaying like in a cartoon. My heart was beating so hard I could literally see it through my chest. I had to pull over on the side of the interstate. I thought I was dying. I stayed pulled over for about 30 minutes praying and pleading to change my life. I knew I had abused my body but I thought I was invincible. I didn’t know it would, or could, actually shut down on me. After about 30

minutes I drove very slowly the last 5 miles home. I got right into bed and never moved the rest of the evening scared if I went to sleep I wouldn’t wake up in the morning. I did wake up. And I did start over. I threw away my diet pills and swore to never touch them again. I swore to never starve myself again or to make myself throw up again. I swore to start taking care of my body and learning how to nourish it properly. I needed to do this. And I needed to do it for me. I am happy to say that I have maintained a healthy weight for the past 10 years. I do not have the large weight flucuations and do not take any diet pills. I simply eat sensibly and exercise, with the occasional indulgence. I will be running my 8th marathon this October. I have educated myself and became a personal trainer 9 years ago as well as received my certification in nutrition education from the Global College of Natural Medicine. I currently work as a Personal Trainer at Harbour Island Athletic Club and a Nutrition Educator at Enliven Wellness Works. It is my goal to continue helping as many people as possible regain control over their health, because I KNOW they can! If you believe it, you can achieve it. To Your Health!

by Neale Donald Walsch To which I answer: “Precisely.” And that is why I wrote this latest book; that is exactly what the book explores. It also offers the observation that most people do not know what the true reason for their existence is—and that this is, of course, the core of the problem. I make the point that this is not our fault. We’ve been told very little about the real reason for our existence—and of the little we have been told by our ancestors, by our families, by our religions and our cultures and our tribes, nearly all of it is inaccurate.

A

s I look at life on our planet presently it feels to me that 98% of the world’s people are spending 98% of their time on things that don’t matter.

That’s a bold statement to make, I know. It’s almost an indictment. But as I look back at my own activities in the past, I see that this was true during most of my life, and only in these past few years has it changed. And I see most people across the globe living pretty much as I had been living...so I’m going to stick with my observation. In fact, I used this exact statement to open my latest book. It’s an attention getter, and I admit it: I’m trying to get people’s attention.

Why? Because I think the world is moving toward an important moment in time relating to the larger process of humanity’s evolution, and everywhere I go I see people searching for larger answers to the larger questions that face all of us in life. Questions such as—trite as it may seem—what is this life really all about? In my lectures these days I invite people to look at their own lives, and the day-today activities that fill them. Then I ask: How many of those activities have really mattered in terms of the true reason for your existence? Most people say that this would depend on how one defines that true reason.

We have been told that to be happy in life we need to get the guy, get the girl, get the car, get the job, get the house, get the spouse, get the kids, get the better job, get the better house, get the promotion, get the grandkids, get the gray hair, get the office in the corner, get the retirement watch, get the illness, get the burial plot, and get the hell out. We have been told that we need to obey God’s commands, do God’s will, follow God’s law, spread God’s word, and fear God’s wrath, for when we face God’s judgment we will be begging for God’s mercy—and, depending on our offenses, we may not get it, but rather, may find ourselves condemned to everlasting and unbearable torture in the fires of hell. We have been told about the Survival of the Fittest and that To the Victor Go the Spoils, that Nice Guys Finish Last and that The One with the Most Toys Wins, that It’s Every Man for Himself and that The End

Justifies the Means, that Money Doesn’t Grow on Trees and that We’re to Be Seen and Not Heard and that We Are Not to Color Outside the Lines and that We Made Our Bed and Now We Have to Lie in It. We have been told that There Is Only One Way to Heaven and We’d Better Get It Right, that It’s Us Against Them, and that We Can’t Fight City Hall; that we should Never Raise Our Head Above the Crowd, that We Can’t Have Our Cake and Eat It, and that We should Never Count Our Chickens Before They Hatch. And now, as if that isn’t enough, we’ve been told in most recent days and times that The End Is Near, Society’s Collapse Is Imminent, All Social Systems Are Falling Apart, and that soon our world will return to Cave Man Days. Our Minds have been filled with many, many other messages that have created a day-to-day reality so far removed from our real reason for being on the Earth that it’s a wonder we find any joy or excitement in life at all—much less muster the energy to change any of the things that really do need to be changed on our planet if a wonderful future for humanity is to be assured. Yet most of the things that are “wrong” with life on Earth in the 21st Century would right themselves by themselves if the majority of human beings simply refocused their attention on The Only Thing That Matters. And what, exactly, is that?

It is the Agenda of the Soul. It is the Sacred Journey. It is the Divine Purpose. All of these are facets of the same diamond, and in the book I explore this gem with a jeweler’s eyepiece, peering deeply into not only its breathtaking beauty, but its awesome power as well. The book makes it clear that we are on a journey here. And no, it is not the journey from birth to death. It is a journey from way before birth to long after death. Yet our here-and-now awareness of the purpose and destination of this journey can play an extraordinary effect on our day-to-day life—in some cases changing it forever, and in many ways maybe even changing the world by changing that part of the world we touch.

And speaking of tools, the text offers five remarkable devices that offer us immediate assistance in serving, first, the Agenda of the Soul—which approach, the text declares, automatically brings into our lives all the things that the Body and the Mind have been struggling to create: peace, health, safety, security, opportunity, creative expression, pleasure, abundance, joy, happiness, and love. The Only Thing That Matters invites 9-to-5, day-to-day, onthe-ground application of the spiritually revolutionary messages in Conversations with God. I have been waiting to produce this book for 15 years. Because of its daring, radical, and exciting approach to life, I wanted to try it first before I shared it, to see if it works.

Lest one think that this is just another metaphysical treatise, however, with little practical It does. application, I should note that what I strived for here is exactly the opposite. I believe that spirituality that has no practicality is bankrupt. I have no time for it. So, taking my cue from the Conversations with God series of books that were given to me, I looked at its core messages and sought to explain them in ways Neale Donald Walsch is the author that would cause their wisdom to be immediately accessible. of the 9-book Conversations with God Among the concepts that are rendered functional, and not merely left as points for esoteric discussion: The Body and the Mind never die. We all know that the Soul lives forever (even the world’s major religions can all agree on that), but the idea that our Bodies and our Minds are eternal as well opens us to an entirely new raison d’être and gives us an entirely new tool for the recreation of our behaviors. www.tampabaywellness.com

Your Relationship with the Sun PART ONE

At 34, I have had five skin cancers surgically removed, along with many other pre-cancerous cells via cryogenics. 14 years ago my father was diagnosed with melanoma. Knowing I inherited my father’s large thighs, short fingers, short frame and skin, my eyes were opened to the world of skin cancer. I needed to take a look in the mirror and ask myself if going to the tanning salon and sunbathing for hours to obtain a bronzed body was important (even if it did make my thighs look thinner). The awareness and demand of living a healthier lifestyle created anxiety in a myriad of ways. Changing everyday behaviors, even if it is for the better, is still change. The pressures of knowing I could be eating healthier and exercising more quickly became associated with making the decision to commit to a healthier lifestyle in regards to excessive UV exposure. I am quite certain many of us face this “pile up” and “healthy choices overload” often. The fact is nothing is wrong with baby steps to evolve into a healthier lifestyle. Focus on making one healthier commitment at a time. Along that path, others will make a presence naturally. 24 November 2012 • Tampa Bay Wellness

Is skin cancer common? The number of skin cancer cases annually surpasses all the other cancers combined. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime. About 75 percent of skin cancer deaths are from melanoma. On average, one American dies from melanoma every hour. In 2012, it is estimated that 9,180 deaths will be attributed to melanoma and 3,010 deaths from nonmelanoma skin cancers in the US alone.

FACT: UV radiation is a carcinogen. Q- What causes skin cancer? The main source of skin cancer is too much exposure to UV rays. Both UVA and UVB rays damage skin and cause skin cancer. Other causes are genetics and exposure to carcinogenic substances (arsenic, tar and x-ray radiation).

sources of UV rays (tanning lamps/beds) increase the risk to excessive exposure.

FACT: Damage to DNA in your skin cells can result in hyper-pigmentation, dryness, wrinkles and loss of skin elasticity, which results in premature aging. What are pre-cancerous skin changes? Long-term, excessive UV exposure damages the skin’s DNA which can result in dry, scaly, rough patches called actinic keratosis. A significant percentage of pre-cancerous lesions will develop into skin cancers.

How do I protect myself from excessive sun exposure?

Q- Where does UV radiation come from?

It is important to protect your skin from the hours of 10am-4pm. Wearing sunscreen, hats, shirts made with tightly woven fabrics and sunglasses are very good tools. Sun exposure adds up day after day, so try and seek shade frequently.

The main source of UV radiation comes from the sun. Sunlight can damage DNA in your skin cells. Man-made

UV exposure while driving automobiles. Certain types of window tinting are now available to block UV rays.

Are there other risks to UV radiation other than skin cancer? Yes, The sun’s UV rays also increase a person’s risk of cataracts and certain other eye problems and can suppress the skin’s immune system.

Does it matter what type of sunscreen or SPF rating? Yes, pay attention to the labels! Broad spectrum products, PABA-free with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 are optimal. Apply sunscreen first, before applying other products such as makeup or bug

spray. Don’t forget important body parts! Other than your face, arms and legs, do not forget your lips, ears, neck and hands. Most individuals do not apply the proper amount of sunscreen. Use at least one ounce and reapply approximately every two hours.

Don’t I need vitamin D from the sun? It is better to get vitamin D from your diet and dietary supplements rather than sun exposure because dietary sources do not increase the risk of skin cancer.

What types of food provide vitamin D? The best sources are fatty fish like mackerel, sardines, tuna and wild-harvested salmon. Smaller

amounts can be found in cheese, egg yolks, beef liver and fortified dairy products and mushrooms.

Does the sun provide vitamin D? Yes and No. The sun activates your body’s hormone calcitriol to produce vitamin D. Sun exposure in the early morning or late afternoon, 10-15 minutes for light-skinned individuals and 30-40 minutes for darkskinned individuals, three to five times a week will achieve this.

Do tanning beds provide a healthy and controlled environment to receive and absorb UV exposure? Tanning bed lamps are usually calibrated to favor UVA rays, not UVB rays which stimulate

vitamin D production. Tanning beds that promote UVB rays usually still produce excessive amounts of UV ray exposure. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, those who make just four visits to a tanning salon per year can increase their risk for melanoma by 11 percent, and their risk for basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma by 15 percent. Along the path of limiting my sun exposure, I discovered a remedy for thinner thighs. To be continued…

Our Amazing Emotions E

motions are such a mysterious gift. They take us to heights of ecstasy then dash us on the rocks of despair. But emotions do much more than this. They can bind us together and tear us apart. They can move some to noble acts of courage and self-sacrifice while in others they are the force behind terrible acts of evil and destruction. Why are we made this way? To answer this question we need to look at the four-fold nature of emotions. It turns out that emotions have four different aspects, each of which is vital to who we are. The first aspect is the subjective nature of emotions. This includes how they make you feel, how they focus your energy and attention, and how they urge you to take actions to obtain the things you want and avoid the things you don’t want. If you are sitting at home and hear a window break, all of your attention and energy immediately become focused on this potential threat. On the positive side, think about how empty life would be without the experience of love and joy. A second aspect of emotions is their physical side. This includes the various parts of the brain associated with emotions, the physical reactions they cause in your body, and the ways injury, illness, or other malfunctions of the brain can affect how you think and feel. It also includes how the brain uses emotions to sort information into greater

or lesser levels of importance. Research has shown that when animals or people experience a threat, a structure called the amygdala springs into action and strengthens the memory, giving it a sort of “emotional stamp”. For example, if you are in a car accident, the sights, sounds, and thoughts associated with the accident become signs of danger. When you experience any of these in the future, they cause you to become anxious and more alert. In fact, research has shown that fearful responses can occur without the participation of any higher reasoning process. This is meant for our protection since we need to be aware of potential threats. Keep in mind that this all occurs at an unconscious level. These parts of the brain allow you to react very quickly to danger without having to think about what is occurring. Unfortunately, events and objects that pose no threat can become associated with danger and trigger a fear response when you encounter them. This can interfere with your daily life in many ways and is especially important in the development of anxiety-related problems. Another part of the physical side of emotions is the important non-verbal role they play in communication. Emotions add information to what is being said through subtle variations in tone of voice, facial expressions, posture, and gestures. Take a

28 November 2012 • Tampa Bay Wellness

moment to say the words “I love you” out loud three times, first as a question, then as a fact, and finally as a passionate affirmation. Notice the changes in your voice, face, and inner feelings as you say these words in each of the three ways. These differences allow a listener to know which meaning you intend to convey without explanation. The third aspect of emotions is their mental side. This includes the role that your thoughts play in generating emotions and how emotions, in turn, affect your thoughts. Since many of your emotions are generated by your perception and interpretation of events, common statements such as “You made me angry” and “That made me sad” are inaccurate. It is not the person or event that makes you angry or sad, but your interpretation of it.

Your emotional reactions to everyday events reveal what is most important to you and what you truly believe. For example, John likes to think of himself as a generous person. However, when asked to donate to an upcoming event, he finds himself becoming irritated when considering what he should give. His emotional response shows how he really doesn’t like to give to others. At the same time, his friend gladly donates revealing a generous spirit. So why do we have emotions? They allow us to experience life fully, to motivate us, to empower our thoughts, and reveal who we are. We just need to pay attention.

The second, who lacks confidence, is fearful because it might mean making a mistake while in the spotlight. The third who is an old hand at presenting just sees it as another task to complete. The same situation, interpreted differently, resulted in completely dissimilar emotions.

The Animal Communicator H

ave you ever had the feeling that your animal companion is reading your mind? You’re probably right! Telepathy is a form of communication using mind to mind transfer of information. It is the natural extension of intuition involving the sending and receiving energy of the feelings, images, and words, over distance, transcending time and space. Telepathy is the universal language of the soul—used by all species, and between species.

Acknowledging them as total spiritual beings, many humans have learned to communicate with them and assist the pet owners professionally. This specialty is known as Animal Communicator, Pet Psychic, or Animal Whisper. A session with an animal communicator can deeply connect you with your animal companion and truly help resolve challenges in regards to behavior, health, relations, and attitude.

St. Francis Of Assize was an animal communicator and animal welfare advocate. He was recognized as one of the first people in recorded history to value the life of animals as highly as human life. He spoke openly to animals and unabashedly considered them as equals. His legacy of reverence for all life continues to inspire the world today.

A professional animal communicator will facilitate the conversation between you and your animal friend using the telepathy. What is being communicated is an impression of the total experience which is a composite of all the animal sees, hears, tastes, smells, and feels at any moment in time. The telepath receives the message, decodes it, and

translates it into language so it can be related to the person doing the inquiry. It is like a 3-way call with the telepath acting as a telephone line between the two. Most animals love to communicate and are enthusiastic about sharing their point of view. As a professional animal communicator for 12 years I have had many occasions to work in tandem with a client’s veterinarian. A client had called to request my help in regards to their very sick dog Phoenix. Although the all parasitic lab tests came back negative, Phoenix‘s message was certain that the second set would find the cause of her illness. With this encouragement the second set of tests were performed and indeed diagnosis had found the parasitic worm, which was then treated. Often my telepathic skills are instrumental to ensure the life of pet is happy and comfortable during the

Listening to the animal’s concerns and asking questions is an effective way to provide for the animal’s well-being, wishes and needs. Animal Communication sessions will enlighten and guide you in a new direction that is more harmonious for your household or barn. Individual animals, just like individual humans, have their own personalities and perspectives on the world in which they live. Explore and celebrate your relationship with animal companions; listen to what they can teach us about love, life, and being human. Christine Goldman has been professional animal communicator 12 years . During this time she has worked with professional organizations and families successfully assisting in solving medical health problems, healing past traumas, behavioral issues and understanding attitudes. She is committed to communicating intuitively and telepathically with animals to share their messages with the people that love them. 773-499-4909. www. ChristineGoldman.com.

Meditation has its origins within the Indian sages about 5,000 years ago, when they were first deliberating over human existence. Asking the question of where we have more control in life overall, the external world or the internal world, they chose the internal. Hence, a system was developed for managing this internal world through working with the mind, and meditation was born. What we think of as Yoga, or the asanas - body postures - came later. Buddha, approximately 2,500 years later, took the meditation part and made that the cornerstone of Buddhism, leaving the asanas behind for the yogic sages.

The Mind Body Spirit Connection It’s More Than Just Something to Believe In

I

t seems like there is a conundrum that if we stepped outside of it, we would be better off. We are a human. Us humans are comprised of a trinity: mind, body and spirit. The Chinese culture does not separate out the spirit from the heart; they’re the same word, shen. When looking at a client’s pattern behind the imbalance that has lead to their disease, or lack of joy, I look at their most frequently felt emotions and beliefs. So I am going with a physical illness (body) inward, to the mind and spirit. Emotions, or e-motions as energy in motion (think e=mc²) I

suggest as a link between the mind and spirit, depending on type of emotion. If a natural emotion, like joy, then it is of the spirit. If it is a negative energy, like worry, then it is of the mind. According to TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) every organ in the body corresponds to an emotion; the lungs hold sorrow and grief. The kidneys take fear. These classifications of emotions linked with a specific organ go with the mind based emotions, according to what was just simplified above. So heart based emotions would then therefore be spirit based emotions, when considering that Chinese classification of the term for heart,

32 November 2012 • Tampa Bay Wellness

shen, being the same as spirit. So, for example, if we habitually worry, then we are actually having an impact on our entire system, with the bulk of it being taken by the kidneys leaving the kidneys weak and vulnerable to disease. Ultimately, any excessive “mind-energy” that consistently goes in the same direction, and is negative, then impacts our organs negatively. Therefore, it could be said that this is yet another plus of learning to work with our mind through some form of consistent practice, preferably something as systematic and tested throughout time, as meditation.

Building on this and then we’ll return, kidneys, amongst other things, are responsible for regulating the distribution of primal essence we use for energy, or jing. Jing is one of the “Three Treasures” in Chinese Medicine. These three treasures are a cornerstone to Chinese medical theory, a holistic model in which it is a given that there is a connection between the mind and the body, and that our emotions directly effect our level of health. For us Westerners, here is something more tangible: the adrenals also sit at our kidneys. Adrenal burnout, I have come to see over the last two years living here again locally and taking what had been my part time holistic health & coaching business full time after ten years of living in Asia, is the most frequently misdiagnosed “syndrome.” It frequently gets labeled as chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, lupus and others. We need primal life force energy to live a vital, happy life. If we maintain our daily life with a certain level of stress that isn’t counteracted by our daily lifestyle choices of say sound nutrition, exercise, a mind-body practice like yoga, chi gong or tai chi, then we go beyond our chi, known as another of the three treasures in Chinese Medicine, www.tampabaywellness.com

horoscopes ARIES Use the simple approach combined with a bit of daredevil to find the best solution to difficulties. Give ample room for last minute shifts in plans and preparation. Seek to make more of your ideas known to a wider group of associates. Take some time for play for this will help you ease built-up stress and thus improve your focus.

LEO Who needs you now? There is a need to be more observant to those who may need an extra helping hand. Your efforts to support and uplift will be appreciated as well as providing you with a deeper sense of fulfilment and purpose. Understand that often in the simplest of gestures lie the seeds of great reward. Look for unexpected opportunities to be of service!

SAGITTARIUS Give the rigors and routine of daily life a rest. Eliminate the more superficial aspects of your life in favour of deeper connection and reflection. Stop any tendencies to engage in pretence with others. Do not ignore issues that need your attention. This time is much like a sweeping of the old in order to free up the space to make new!

By Imsara

TAURUS Don’t wait too long, putting up with the status quo when bigger opportunities may lie just over the next hill. Ships come in when supported by both vision and action. Let new growth happen via creating the space that can both embrace it and support it. Think about both long term and short -term goals outlining a more methodical and grounded process.

VIRGO Celebration is the key to a more fulfilling month. Take some time to rest and just simply enjoy what has been accomplished thus far this year. Contact an old friend or two and go out. Explore your neighbourhood in new ways. In sum, it is time to refresh and reopen areas of your life that have perhaps been overlooked or ignored. Enjoy yourself.

CAPRICORN Connect what you are thinking with your capacity to set bigger goals. Break free from what is constraining you as you also open your mind to take on new challenges. Rewards will come front wedding risk with prudent introspection. Be sure to communicate to those who matter, laying your cards on the table as necessary.

Imsara is an evolutionary astrologist, acupuncture physician, writer and speaker. She holds a Doctor of Oriental Medicine and a Master’s in Public Health. Imsara is offering a www.tampabaywellness.com

GEMINI Bridge the optimism and delight you feel with more constructive thought and action. There can be deeper and broader linking between what you do, places you do it in and the people you can touch. Give up the old outworn methods simply hung onto because it is the way you have been doing things. Branch out and try some new ideas. Test the water—you will find it fine!

LIBRA You will want to attend to any shortfalls in your relationships to others. Beware Pollyanna attitudes that gloss over critical details. There is value now in sharing with others who have perhaps shared similar struggles. Oftentimes the only thing that can heal the past is the passage of time with deeper insight prevailing. Whatever you do, understand that nothing can be gained by going over the same old ground. Let it go.

AQUARIUS Certain things may appear to grow dormant for a time. Do not worry—a time of new developments and productivity will arrive soon enough. Take some extra time then to reflect and review what needs to be corrected. Often the most prudent action is to ensure whatever is growing has strong roots in place. Do not try to rush things but instead regroup and recharge.

series of exciting new classes both in St. Petersburg and at Om Gaia in Bradenton, Florida. Imsara also offers a unique set of services both in Oriental Medicine and energy

CANCER Lift your eyes above the ordinary; transcend any problems by striving to see the bigger picture! Nurture inspiration, zest and your capacity to embrace a deeper wisdom as well as new points of view. Review your life for its capacity to not only support your needs yet also gives you sufficient room for new growth!

SCORPIO Identify ways in which you may be overindulging. This excess can take any form—even that of asking too many questions or perseverating on issues that are of really no concern to you. Now is the time to focus more deeply, eliminating any extraneous situations that re not relevant to you living a more optimal life.

PISCES Deeper messages of inner peace and love await you—just look around. Resolve any unrest by returning to what truly matters to you. Give up any assumptions or expectations as to any outcomes. Hold true to your set direction and watch for any newsworthy announcements—one or two may surprise you!
