Virgin Voyages on the Scarlet Lady Sea of Red with Epic Sunsets and Epic Rendezvous By Cathleen K. Bode

Sir Richard Branson a British billionaire, entrepreneur, and business magnate doesn’t do anything halfway. In the 1970s he founded the Virgin Group, which today controls more than 400 companies in various fields. When it comes to his epic Virgin Voyages he truly knows how to make you feel like a rockstar.

short hour’s drive from Puerto Costa Maya, making for an easy day trip to paradise where 7 shades of blue await. Bacalar is definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Other than the main attraction Bacalar Lagoon, there are Mayan ruins, historical landmarks, and cenotes.

Scarlet Lady is Virgin Voyages premium take on what luxury cruising is all about. She is beautiful and red hot! Sailing from PortMiami, Scarlet will whisk you away to amazing destinations in style.

Back onboard, Scarlet Lady is your oyster. Grab a cone from Lick Me Till… Ice Cream before heading to your suite to get ready for some fun at the DanceShowPartyThing where you shake it all out at this hype music video disguised as an absurdist style dance party. Did I mention that this is an Adult Only cruise?

We set sail the Virgin Way with Champagne in hand, saying bon voyage to Miami and here we come Costa Maya! Once a sleepy enclave of fishing villages nestled between the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, today Costa Maya is a gateway to incredible natural wonders, ancient Mayan ruins, and some of Mexico’s best diving. Bacalar Lagoon in the state of Quintana Roo is only a

From Atonement Deep Tissue Massage, Awakening Bamboo Massage, Salvation Swedish Massage to Deliverance Hot Mineral Massage, who can argue the state of well-being of Vitamin Sea? From Cosmic Blowouts and Celestial Cocktails, Heavenly High Brow Bar to Starry-eyed Lashes at the Dry Dock, there seems to be no end to the many services onboard the Scarlet! Duty Free anyone? Prices are cheaper than in the USA. Try your hand with lady luck — there’s a casino onboard too! Day at Sea—Thankfully the toughest decision was whether to spend the day by the pool or in your Yellow Leaf hammock at your Clever Cabin terrace, all the while taking in the sea views and sounds of the waves. These Clever Cabins are spaciously equipped with a glam area for you to get ready, a Roomy Rainshower and a dreamy bed. If you want to be more social, you can request for your Seabed to be transformed into a comfy sofa during the day and order in from the room service menu. For a little R&R, you can also spend some time at the Redemption Spa, their mermaid and merman hideaway. The Thermal Suite features a hydrotherapy pool, mud room (mud included), salt room, cold plunge pools, quartz beds, all for a nominal fee. If you want to spurge a bit on yourself and/or your significant other, why not get a rejuvenating spa treatment or two. You are worth it and won’t regret it! After a relaxing day at sea, we were ready to have an all-out fiesta at the Pink Agave. They’ll transport your tastebuds to the vibrant streets of Mexico City through Pink Agave’s authentic flavors and expansive array of mezcal. Pro tip: bring your camera for one of Scarlet’s best photo ops — the entrance to Pink Agave. After an incredible dinner and one too many mezcals, it was time to see one of the many entertainment shows onboard. And on this night we chose Duel Reality. This signature performance examines the age-old tale of Romeo & Juliet with a modern twist featuring acrobatic storytelling. It was spellbinding. Worthy of Cirque du Soleil and Broadway. Grog Walk did you say? A fun pub walk to discover Scarlet Lady’s best drinks and bites as we made our way to all signature bars. After that it was snooze time. Lights out. Finito. Ahhh, a new day awaits and what a treat…we have arrived in Bimini, Virgin Voyages Beach Club in the Bahamas. It is a stunning collision of restoration and exploration — with the luxury of St. Tropez, the raw beauty of the Maldives, and the energy of Ibiza. And, at the end of the night we said goodbye with a bonfire bash under the stars. What more can you ask for?

THE CLEAN GIRL LOOK The illusion of “less” is more. The clean-girl makeup look is all over TikTok and Instagram. If you haven’t seen it, the “clean girl” aesthetic is in essence, minimalist makeup. The look is focused on that barely-there appearance, so the less product, the better. It’s simple but the results are impactful! Here are the steps. PRE-MAKEUP: SKINCARE Using quality ingredients and being consistent with your skincare routine will not only leave your skin fresh-faced and set up a good base, but it’ll also reduce the amount of makeup you’ll need! Concealing blemishes, acne scars, or dark undereye circles is so much easier when you take care of your skin! (And don’t forget to wear SPF!).

DIOR DIOR ADDICT LIP GLOW OIl The Dior Addict Lip Glow lip balm is available as a glossy lip oil that deeply protects and enhances the lips, lastingly bringing out their natural color. $38 / Dior.com

NARS SOFT MATTE COMPLETE CONCEALER Get high-performance correction with soft-focus blurring: Soft Matte Complete Concealer instantly blurs and smooths uneven texture while concealing dark spots, under eye circles, redness, and breakouts with a soft-focus matte effect that wears all day. $30 / narscosmetics.com

1. PRIMER Do NOT skip the primer! Primer creates a smoothing effect that enhances makeup coverage and helps your makeup stay on longer, both essential to the clean girl look. Rare Beauty’s Pore Diffusing Primer for the face and Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion for the eyes are good to start with! 2. FACE - Tinted Moisturizer If you suffer from an oily face, you probably don’t like wearing heavy liquids on your face. That’s where tinted moisturizer comes in! It’s a sheer,

lightweight alternative to foundation that can cover up and hydrate the skin. Bonus points if it has SPF! Concealer If you skipped tinted moisturizer, wear concealer instead. The NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer is perfect for covering up any redness or blemishes! Blush Liquid blushes are perfect for natural and highquality blending- two things essential to the clean girl look! 4. EYES Mascara is just one of those things that fits everyone differently, but completes the whoel look! A any mascara that is volumizing and longlasting is great for this look. 5. LIPS Lip Oil One of the most essential products to achieve this look is lip oil. They are the most hydrating things to put on our lips that are lightweight but still give the appearance of looking put-together and classy. Dior’s Lip Glow Oil is the most popular to achieve this!

ROLLS-ROYCE SPECTRE THE FIRST ELECTRIC ROLLS-ROYCE IS A REPLACEMENT OF SORTS FOR THE OLD PHANTOM COUPE.

SPECTRE IS EXPECTED TO HAVE AN ALL-ELECTRIC RANGE OF 320 MILES /520 KILOMETRES WLTP AND OFFER 900NM OF TORQUE FROM ITS 430KW [576 HORSEPOWER] POWERTRAIN. IT IS ANTICIPATED TO ACHIEVE 0-60MPH IN 4.4 SECONDS (0-100KM/H IN 4.5 SECONDS).

Despite the fact that electric cars were quite popular in the early 20th century, Rolls-Royce has never built one, until now. The Spectre is the first, an ultra-luxury coupe that serves as a replacement for the old Phantom Coupe. It heralds a new era for RollsRoyce, which intends to be all-electric by 2030.

The Spectre rides on Rolls-Royce’s “Architecture of Luxury,” an allaluminum platform that underpins the Phantom, Cullinan, and Ghost. The battery pack is integrated into the Spectre’s extruded aluminum spaceframe, and while Rolls-Royce doesn’t mention the energy capacity in its press release, it does tell us the battery pack weighs over 1500 pounds. Specifications aren’t finalized, but Rolls-Royce says that the electric powertrain will offer 577 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque—similar figures to its current V-12—and estimates the range will be around 260 miles. While not quite as large as the old Phantom Coupe, the Spectre is still enormous for a coupe. Its overall length of 214.685 inches is nearly as much as a long-wheelbase Mercedes S-Class, and it weighs 6559 pounds. Despite that, it does 0–60 mph in 4.4 seconds and has a limited top speed of 155 mph.

suspension, too. It’s a development of the “Planar” suspension system used on the new Ghost, which utilizes tuned mass dampers on the front upper wishbones, and a camera system that reads the road ahead and adjusts the air springs and adaptive dampers to compensate. In the Spectre, the ability to decouple antiroll bars is added. This helps isolate each wheel from another when driving straight, but when the car figures out you’re about to start cornering, it reengages the antiroll bars. The design is typically Rolls-Royce, with a long fastback roofline and rearhinged doors that recall the old Wraith, and a backlit front grille like the Ghost. The Spirit of Ecstasy badge is everpresent on the hood, and the Spectre gets the very en vogue lighting setup of thin daytime-running lights up top, smoked headlight lenses below. Wheels are 23 inches, a necessity to balance out the size of the car, says Rolls-Royce. Inside, it’s all familiar Rolls-Royce, too, though the interior spec on this launch car is quite lurid. The signature Rolls-Royce starry night motif— which uses thousands of fiber-optic lights integrated into the headliner to recreate a starry night—now extends to the doors. Naturally, there’s a limitless amount of customization options for both exterior and interior. Rolls-Royce isn’t announcing an exact price, but it says it should be somewhere between the $350,000 Cullinan and the $450,000 Phantom. Customer deliveries are expected in about a year’s time.

San Juan Marriott

RESORT STELLARIS CASINO By: Cathleen K. Bode

The oldest city on U.S. territory in Puerto Rico founded in 1521 by Ponce de Leon, San Juan contains approximately half the entire population of the island's almost four million citizens. The 4-Star resort, with its magnificent Stellaris Casino, contains 525 rooms and was built in 1995 on the beautiful resort-filled, fine white sands of Condado Beach. The Luis Munoz Marin International Airport is a short (4.3 mi.) cab ride away. This smoke-free property is situated near the historic district of Old San Juan, with its wonderfully restored Spanish Colonial architecture and offers a multitude of amenities for the entire family. Guests can enjoy the health club, game room, children programs, Spa, all levels of dining and a casino, just to list a few. On-site, uniformed security is also provided to ensure optimum safety both within the hotel as well as in the parking areas. For a casual, laid back spot to dine, the Beach Bar offers a lunch into late evening menu of burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, salads and of course a tropical drink or two to quench the thirst, if you catch my drift! The ever-popular Coffee Merchant and Bake Shop provides that early morning caffeine 'jolt' serving pastries, sandwiches, salads and coffee drinks throughout the day and into early evening. From mid-day into the late evening hours, those seeking a more relaxed dining experience can enjoy cocktails and a full menu of international fare as well as live music and dancing on selected nights. I decided to indulge in some immediate pampering and visited the quaint Ocean Club Spa for a massage and much needed facial. Needless to say, these treatments do so much to relax ones’ self both physically and mentally, setting the tone for the entire vacation. All sorts of other bodily treatments are also available for both men and women. Wish to try your luck at the games of chance? All that's necessary is to slither into the beautifully carpeted, furnished and accessorized Stellaris casino, with its gorgeous crystal chandeliers majestically hanging throughout. You will obviously need a pocketful of cash once you settle on the appropriate game you wish to conquer, then immerse yourself into the challenge lying ahead. Remember this, if you are fortunate enough to jump out into a lead, don't get greedy, take the money and run although one enterprising older gentleman seated at my table advised me to put aside my original investment and then “just have fun with

In addition to the on-site hotel amenities, there are many sightseeing attractions, great restaurants, and exciting nightlife venues. Visit Spanish Colonial towns and tropical forests, engage in water sports of all kinds, from swimming to snorkeling off coral reefs, scuba diving explorations of underwater caves, golf, tennis, horseback riding, boating, hiking, cycling and of course…SHOPPING! To arrange for these activities, we suggest planning through Travel Services, Inc., an in-house Destination Management Company (DMC) at the Marriott. From airport transfers to sightseeing trips, tours of water and land-based activities to cooking classes with renowned chefs, TSI can do it all. We opted to take their Kayaking Bioluminescent Bay Tour of Las Cabezas de San Juan, which is located on Road 987 near Las Croabas, at the northeastern-most tip of the island. This Natural Reserve is owned by The Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico and consists of 445 acres of land featuring seven distinct ecosystems including: coral reefs, sandy beaches, sub-tropical dry forests, sea grass beds and one of the few bioluminescent bays in the world. Beginning at sunset our eco-guides got us into our two person kayaks and brought all necessary safety equipment and lights. After receiving

pre-ride training covering all aspects of the tour and operation of the kayaks, we paddled to the entrance of a mystical channel leading to an area where the mangroves create natural tunnels. Sounds of wildlife surrounded us. After this 15 to 20 minute paddle under the blanket of night sky, our guide stopped to give commentary on the various points of interest: identification of bird life inhabitants, Marine life using the lagoon as a sanctuary, information on visible stars and an explanation of the bioluminescent micro-organisms that give the water its mysterious light. Awesome! (It might be a good idea to wear a bathing suit beneath your clothing, as you will almost certainly get wet along the way!). The only real downside was that it took 2 ½ hours to travel from the hotel to the Bay along slow winding roads, making three other stops to pick up others from hotels along the way. Might not be a bad idea to chip in with a few others and rent a car for a day otherwise bring your ‘Dramamine’! TO LOVE IS TO LOVE FROM WITHIN By Maha Chaudhry

Since our younger days, we’ve been exposed to the greatest love stories of all times. It began with the fairytales that were read to us and the Disney prince and princess who depicted love in the most magical way, then it eventually transitioned into romance movies, novels and social media. We are shown that love is falling in love with someone else, and were conditioned to believe that the greatest love story we will ever have is with another person. But now that I look back in hindsight, I have to say that I disagree. Although I love, love and believe that there is a special love out there for everyone, I am a firm believer that the greatest love you will ever have is the love you hold for yourself. And here’s why When you love yourself, whole heartedly, you welcome the world to do the same. It sounds pretty easy, but self-love is a journey. It consists of forgiveness, acceptance and unlearning beliefs that date as early back to childhood. It means getting honest with yourself and truly believing that you are deserving of the kind of love you desire. It is then you will better be able to manifest love with respect, admiration and lastly, unconditional love for yourself. Author Louise Hay explained it best herself when she said it is when you love who you are that you bring out the best in you. I’ve heard many people say that I will be the happiest when I meet the love of my life. The truth is, happiness is yours to claim right now, and it comes from nowhere other than yourself. Does a healthy relationship make us happier? Sure, it can enrich our lives, but, unless we feel good from within, we may struggle to accept the love with receive from others. We may find it instead to be a temporary feeling that will eventually fade or burnout. However, when you practice self-love, you are constantly putting your self-worth to the forefront, which I believe should be a prerequisite for any

relationship. For this reason, healing is imperative, especially after heartbreak. It allows you to let go of what no longer serves you, including negative and limiting beliefs, and opens you up to accepting healthy love again. When people neglect healing, they can find themselves in a pattern of disappointment, not being able to clearly understand where they are going wrong. Though you can continue to grow with your partner, as a healthy relationship holds space for growth, it’s still important to bring your authentic self into a relationship - and if that means to heal some wounds in order to give more of yourself to someone, then in that moment, that’s what needs to be done. Remember, what you give out, you get back. Practicing self -love with healing will also allow you to create healthy boundaries. It is no surprise that the best things in life sometimes come unexpectedly. There’s a reason people say love happens when you least expect it, and that’s because it happens when you are embracing yourself, embracing your own love story with your dreams, goals, desires and the things that bring you joy. When you are doing you, you are flowing in the kind of energy that draws others towards you. And that kind of energy is contagious because it vibrates high. This Valentine’s Day and always, whether you are taken, single, or unsure, practice self-love by treating yourself to something you enjoy, and celebrate you - your growth, resilience and everything you’ve endured to get to where you are today. And for anyone who needs to hear this - you are deserving of the love you seek for yourself and from others. Claim it. Own it. Embrace it. Love it. Like the great Rumi said, “What you seek is seeking you.” Fall in love with yourself, and love will always be on your side.

A new year of abundances has begun, and this is a great opportunity for us to let go

of the old, and welcome the new “ME”. We have been given a new year of new chances to set goals for our physical, emotional, mentally and spiritually in all areas of life. What happened in the past, it’s the past. The future is not the reality yet. We must focus on where we are and that where we are, it’s here in this present moment. A New Year’s resolution is important for the new beginning, to enhance the self-efficacy. It provides us the virtue of aspiring to our goals and achieving them. You will have a sense of control over what and how you would live your life. Healthy and Happy life:

THE NEW

“ME”

RESOLUTION Author : Natalie Smith

Let start the new “ME” with making yourself a priority by loving yourself first. Loving yourself first is a must! It’s the master key to a positive and happy life in all aspects of life. Only “YOU” can take care of yourself in the ways that you need the most, because you know yourself better than anyone else. Noone can complete you, but you! You can be a better version of you and will have enough love for others. Your self-love will lead to selfconfidence, self-discipline, self-awareness, self-worth, self-control, healthy boundaries and many more. Self-love activities to enhance body

Self-love activities to enhance positive

positivity:

mindset:

1. Meditation 2. Practice Gratitude by journaling 3. Exercise 4. Healthy diet 5. Spend some time outside 6. Read books 7. Attend personal growth seminars, workshops or listen to self growth podcasts 8. Reward yourself 9. Skincare routine 10. Stay hydrated

1. Be authentic with who you are 2. Stop comparing yourself to others 3. Don’t worry about other people opinions 4. Let go of things you can’t control 5. Don’t hold on to toxic people 6. Process your fear 7. Trust yourself to make good decisions for yourself. 8. Allow yourself to make mistakes 9. Take every opportunity life presents or create your own. 10. Set a healthy boundaries

By putting these elements in place, you will be more likely to achieve your goals. Your mindset has shifted to what is important for you and why it’s a must for you to check off all your goals. It’s easy to write down the goals for your new year's resolution but how come it’s hard to accomplish all of them. Because we don’t put the value in ourselves enough therefore the process of the end result is lacking. When you make yourself a priority you then want your goals to achieve because you know the value of the outcome.

DO’S & DON’TS OF

PLASTIC SURGERY

The hardest part of deciding to undergo plastic surgery is “fear of the unknown.” Plastic surgery teams often find that the most important responsibility to make sure each patient knows what to expect every step along the way. We’ve gathered for you our top ten “do’s and don’ts” of plastic surgery. Beyond choosing your plastic surgeon wisely (which is a given!) the below is the carefully curated short list of the things we wish every plastic surgery patient knew. We hope sharing our knowledge helps you with your journey to a new you! DO #1 | HAVE REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS You may want to have Kim Kardashian’s nose or Angelina Jolie’s lips, but it’s unrealistic to think that you’re going to end up looking exactly like your dream celebrity. There’s a science behind what makes each of us “beautiful” and it could very well be that Angelina’s lips wouldn’t look good on you, given your unique facial anatomy. A skillful plastic surgeon will be able to give you the general characteristics of the celebrity’s feature you desire, however, no two faces are ever the same so always maintain realistic expectations post-op. In the end, the goal of good plastic surgery is to have natural-looking results that enhance your overall appearance without looking fake or out-of-proportion with the rest of your face. DO #2 | MAINTAIN A HEALTHY WEIGHT BEFORE SURGERY If plastic surgery is part of a more ambitious plan to a healthier, slimmer new you, make sure any planned weight loss happens before surgery. Fluctuations in weight after surgery can cause

44

| STYLETOME.COM

HEALTH & BEAUTY

unanticipated volume changes, which can negatively impact the surgery results. For the same reasons, maintaining a healthy weight after surgery will maximize results. DO #3 | CONSIDER YOUR CARETAKER You’ll need someone to take you home and care for you directly following surgery, so keep the availability of your “caretaker” in mind, too, when discussing surgery dates. Plan for this person to take care of you at least until the morning after your surgery. Also keep in mind that you can’t drive while taking pain medications, so you will need someone to drive you to and from any appointments you have. How long you stay on pain medications depends on your pain tolerance. Some patients are off the pain meds in a day or two while others prefer to continue using for about a week afterwards. It’s worth noting that some plastic surgery teams, like us, partner with a caretaker service where a nurse takes you home from surgery and cares for you overnight. DO #4 | PLAN TO TAKE APPROPRIATE TIME OFF While it is certainly possible to go back to work after a long weekend of recovery, the large majority of facial plastic surgery patients prefer to take one to two weeks off work. After the first week, any stitches and bandages will be gone, but it can take up to two weeks before you’re “restaurant ready” – meaning if you were to go to a restaurant, the person at the table next to you wouldn’t be able to tell you had anything done. DO #5 | WAIT AT LEAST SIX MONTHS BEFORE JUDGING YOUR RESULTS We all want instant gratification, but recovery from plastic surgery is a journey not a race. Sure, you’ll look “restaurant ready” after two weeks, but the final results may take up to a year to fully materialize. For example, residual swelling can take many months to dissipate. Acquaintances won’t notice the swelling or small imperfections, but you will! The body’s healing process is not only complex and involved, but it also is unique to each person. Trust in yourself and in your plastic surgeon, whom you spent so much time choosing. DON’T #1 | DON’T MAKE COST YOUR PRIMARY DECISION FACTOR Sure, there’s a general ballpark that most plastic surgery should fall within, but price alone should not be your primary factor when choosing who to go with. If you want cheap, go to Mexico, but beware! There are a number of patients with botched jobs from other countries that need revisions. Plastic surgery is an investment in yourself and you should invest wisely. DON’T #2 | DON’T LET YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY DO “ARM CHAIR” DOCTORING Everyone has an opinion, and during the recovery process your close friends and family will be sharing theirs whether you want to hear them or not! Usually by the time a patient shares the concerns their friends and family have raised, they are in a near panic. Swelling, asymmetry, tightness and numbness are all normal parts of the recovery process. How many recoveries from plastic surgery have your friends and family observed? Remember, if you’ve picked a good plastic surgeon, he or she has at least eleven years of formal academic training under their belt. For goodness sake, reach out to your surgeon’s office when you have a concern or fear. Don’t let comments by your friends fester in the absence of professional guidance.

DON’T #3 | DON’T LOOK IN THE 10X MIRROR EVERY DAY After surgery, the recovery process is understandably the most important focus of your daily life. Every day, you’ll get up and look at yourself in the mirror. Avoid the temptation to get out the 10X magnification mirror and start nit picking. Think about this: you’ll see the most dramatic results when you avoid looking too closely at yourself every day. When you are closely examining every little detail on a constant basis, it’s hard to see any changes. If you want a more objective perspective of your progress, take a photo once a month and try to go easy on yourself in between photos. The recovery process is a journey, not a race and it’s unique to each person. The final results won’t appear overnight and often you’ll look worse before you’ll look better. That’s just the way the body heals. DON’T #4 | DON’T ATTRIBUTE OLD FLAWS TO YOUR RECENT SURGERY It happens so often – patients ignore our Don’ts #2 and #3 and show up at a follow-up visit demanding to know why the surgery has caused wrinkles, or some other perceived change, in another area of their face. Take a photo and put it side by side with the photo taken before surgery. Sure enough, the patient sees that the flaw was there before the surgery and it’s just because he or she is looking at every nook and cranny during the recovery process that they notice it now for the first time. Similarly, now that one part of your face is looking amazing, you may start to notice other areas of your face that don’t look so amazing. For example, patients who undergo upper eyelid (blepharoplasty) surgery may start to notice the bags or dark circles under the eyes more after surgery than they did before. The solution to this, as you might imagine, is lower eyelid surgery and this is why it’s always wise to get your plastic surgeon’s professional opinion on what surgeries he or she would recommend doing together, all at once, instead of going to your consultation with one specific surgery in mind. DON’T #5 | DON’T DRINK ALCOHOL, SMOKE OR TAKE BLOOD THINNERS IN THE 2-3 WEEKS BEFORE AND AFTER SURGERY It might seem like a good idea to unwind with a nice glass of wine once the bandages are off after your surgery, however, it’s best to abstain for from drinking any alcohol for two weeks before and after plastic surgery. As you may know, alcohol dehydrates the body, which can actually cause extra swelling, and it also acts as a blood thinner, increasing the risk of bleeding. Ibuprofen and aspirin are also blood thinners - you’ll want to avoid those, too. Aspirin is a common ingredient found in over-the-counter pain medications, so be sure to read the label carefully before taking anything not prescribed by your surgeon. Finally, anesthesia and smoking is obviously not a great mix, so smoking within three weeks before and after plastic surgery is a big DON’T! Smoking impairs the ability of blood to carry oxygen so it can influence how your body reacts to the anesthesia. Also, smoking can decrease blood flow to the operated area, preventing proper healing. If you want to ensure the best recovery possible and maximize your surgery results, then it's time to quit smoking.

RED FOR EVERY SKIN COLOR The colors we wear can either make or break the vibrancy of our skin. When it comes to makeup, we should match our lip shade the same as we would match foundation or face powder. Once you understand your own skin, you will know the hues that work best for you. The first step in defining your skin tone is by determining the undertones of your skin. The best way of recognizing your undertone is by looking at the veins in your wrist. If they appear to be blue or purple, you have cool undertones. Cool undertones call for lipstick colors that have deep blu-ish shades. So instead of an orangey red, you would go for deep, purple-tinted red. Also,

dusty purple and berry shades compliment your skin! If your veins are slightly more green, you have warm undertones. Vibrant colors are your friend! You can go for an orangey shade or bright red! Peachy-pink shades are also a match for you. If your veins seem to be a mixture of these colors, then you might have neutral undertones. Neutral undertones basically just means you’ve been blessed with the ability to rock basically any shade of red. Orangey reds, pink-reds, berry-reds, wine red. My best advice to anybody with a neutral skin tone is to rock the everlasting classic Marilyn Monroe red...just because you can!

GLOW GIRL Makeup to make you blinding! We all know the feeling of a killer highlighter to accentuate your sharpest features, but there are other ways to make you radiant. An easily applied balmy eyeshadow adds shine and gloss to wake up your look, and glitter gel smudged underneath your eyes can hide dark circles. High-shine lip gloss circa-2005 is also making a comeback to complement this year’s trend.

Whether paired with blazers and slacks for work or with a sweatshirt and high-waisted jeans for the weekend, white sneakers are the fashion glue that brings together a lot of looks, casual or otherwise. The best white sneakers for women aren’t much different than those for men, apart from the size and width. Still, sneakers are, in fact, unisex and the market is not lacking for options. You can spend a ridiculous amount on sneakers, but, if you do your research, you’ll find that many of the most iconic pairs cost less than $150. To determine the best sneakers from the just-ok and over-hyped ones, we considered a few different factors, including the quality of the design, materials, fit and overall value for the price. CELEBRITY SOUP

ACTORS WHO’VE SUCCESSFULLY PLAYED ROLES WRITTEN FOR

SOMEONE ELSE CAN YOU IMAGINE THESE ICONIC FILMS WITHOUT THEIR RESPECTIVE STARS? I KNOW I SURE CAN’T! By Riesa Pascal

62

| STYLETOME.COM

CELEBRITY SOUP

One of the most difficult jobs in Hollywood is undoubtedly that of a casting director. Oftentimes, script writers will have a specific actor in mind from the very start of a project. Sometimes everything works out as intended, but there are also plenty of times where filmmakers and casting directors do not get their first choice and go on to see their movie become a massive flop. However, let’s not forget the memorable times where an actor has absolutely slayed a role that wasn’t written for them! Take a look at the following celebs who were cast to replace an entirely different actor, but completely nailed their role.

Audrey Hepburn In Breakfast at Tiffany's Of course I had to kick off this list with the absolute classic that is Breakfast at Tiffany’s. With all the glitz and glam of the film, it may not surprise you to learn that Truman Capote was actually picturing his friend and famed actress Marilyn Monroe when he wrote the book on which the film is based. He borrowed many qualities from Monroe in conceiving the character while Audrey Hepburn’s background was entirely different. In spite of the book's intentions, Director Blake Edwards chose Hepburn to play Holly Golightly which resulted in her giving the incredibly iconic performance that earned her a 1962 Academy Award nomination for Best Lead Actress.

Wesley Snipes In Blade The comic book character Blade is a half-human, half-vampire hunter whose life mission is to slay vampires. When writing the 1998 screenplay and envisioning the comic book’s move to the big screen, David S. Goyer originally had LL Cool J in mind as he knew he wanted a rugged actor who always looked ready for a fight. As the movie's projected production budget grew, the studio realized that a bigger celebrity name was needed to justify the cost which opened the door for Wesley Snipes to step into the role. Needless to say, the decision proved to be a wise one as Blade became an international hit, spawning two sequels and bringing Marvel to theater screens a full decade before the formal start of the MCU (take that Iron Man!)

Chris Tucker In The Fifth Element If you have never seen The Fifth Element, I need you to drop everything you’re doing and go watch this cult-classic film at once! The 1997 comedic sci-fi epic not only stars Bruce Willis, but also features a supporting character named Ruby Rhod. The character is a hyper-sexual, intergalactic DJ with an androgynous fashion sense that is not unlike that of Prince. In fact, Writer/director Luc Besson actually conceived of Ruby Rhod with the famed pop icon in mind and even got him to sign on for the role. However, a

conflicting tour schedule forced him to drop out and saw comedian Chris Tucker brought in as Prince’s replacement. To say it worked out well is quite the understatement. Tucker was an excellent fit for the role and stole every scene he was in which has helped the film’s continued popularity nearly 30 years later.

Whoopi Goldberg In Sister Act There’s only one celeb who comes to mind when you think of the 1992 crime comedy Sister Act! Of course I’m talking about the one and only Whoopi Goldberg who was cast to play Deloris Wilson, a lounge singer forced to join a convent after being placed in a witness protection program. The film was an instant hit and remains one of Goldberg’s most iconic comedy roles today, but did you know it was originally offered to Bette Midler? The actress once discussed turning down the role in an interview about her career mistakes saying, “There was Sister Act, which was written for me, but I said: ‘My fans don’t want to see me in a wimple.’ I don’t know where I got that from. Why would I say such a thing? So Whoopi did it instead and, of course, she made a fortune.”

Eddie Murphy In Beverly Hills Cop Although we see it all the time now, back in the 80s it was almost unheard of to cast comedians in action movies. One of the first films to break this unspoken rule was Beverly Hills Cop which saw Eddie Murphy come in as freewheeling Detroit cop Axel Foley. Believe it or not, the original script was actually written for Sylvester Stallone with the intention of lightly spoofing his toughguy image. Two weeks before production began, Stallone got cold feet and took it upon himself to rewrite the script as a more typical action flick as opposed to the action-comedy we know it to be today. The executives at Paramount Pictures didn't take too kindly to their script being changed so Stallone got the boot and Eddie Murphy was brought on into the signature role that defined his career and arguably turned him into a full-blown movie star.

Sam Neill In Jurassic Park If you need any proof that the original Jurassic Park was an absolute masterpiece, just think about the fact that we are still making spin-offs today and building entire theme park areas about the films (I’m looking at you Universal Studios). The beloved Steven Spielberg adaptation of Michael Crichton's best-selling dinosaur novel was supposed to see Harrison Ford cast as Alan Grant. The part was even written to fit Ford's personal and onscreen strengths, but for reasons he has never publicly stated, Ford turned the role down and Sam Neill stepped in instead. Fortunately for Spielberg, Jurassic Park was a massive box-office hit and what Neill brought to his role was vital to its success.

Regardless of medical school class rankings, graduates are all referred to as “DOCTOR.” With this revelation, we should all know that when choosing a physician, one must accept responsibility for adequately researching the doctor he or she is considering. Within our present day society, most licensed to practice medicine are truly miracle workers whether they are completely restructuring someone’s face or saving a life. Over a decade and a half ago, in search of better therapeutics for her patients, she began training in other healthcare modalities. In the scope of her practice at that time, she was somewhat limited, offering only pharmaceutical or surgical treatments. She sought an approach that also embraced functional medicine, addressing the root cause of symptoms and conditions to truly influence patient healing… to treat the patient from the inside out... to teach them how to achieve their best health… Additionally, Dr. Ericsson was keenly focused on anti-aging and aesthetics and recognized how wellness and hormone replacement therapy was inextricably intertwined with optimal outcomes in aesthetics and anti-aging. She wanted to help patients live better lives at every stage. That concern necessitated sexual health optimization as well. Determined to do all of this, she set out to practice in an arena to address this fundamental array of patient needs. The practice style and philosophy of AgeRejuvenation fit her ideal therapeutic approach. Dr Ericsson treats every patient as a unique individual. She spends time with them one on one, evaluating their medical history, lifestyle, and personal goals to best serve their needs. She enjoys not just placing a band-aid on patient symptoms, but addressing the cause of the them. Her skillset includes bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, thyroid hormone balancing, sexual health therapy, sexual dysfunction treatments (including the O-shot™ and P-shot), Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) procedures, stem cell and exosome therapy, dermal fillers, Botox, sclerotherapy, mesotherapy, and cosmetic lasers. Lauren E. Grandpre, M.D. Emergency Medicine Physician I view my work unequivocally as a calling and tend to think of the ER as society’s “Ellis Island” of medicine. Tired, poor, or breathless, we are here at all hours to help you survive against any odds. Serving as an ER Doctor during the COVID-19 pandemic pushed me to discover what I thought may be true, but had never been battle tested, which is that I would put my life at risk for a chance to save yours. The ER family has endured unspeakable losses in recent years, and I would like to honor those colleagues who made the ultimate sacrifice as we held the line together. My professional life did not always occupy the front line of healthcare, and the pandemic highlighted an auspicious nexus between my present efforts and prior work in clinical research. Following my graduation from Smith College, to whom I owe an extraordinary degree of credit for nurturing and shaping the person and physician I am today, I ventured to Boston to engage in the fascinating and essential work of vaccine development and clinical trials. There, I enjoyed a 6 year tenure at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School as a Research Associate before going on to earn my medical degree at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, followed by completing my Residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. It has been humbling to learn that my former research had incrementally contributed to the development of future vaccine candidates, including those for COVID-19. I could only hope that the seeds planted at the proverbial bench might grow to support a larger cause in public health while I pursued my advanced medical training to save lives in the flesh. I am honored and privileged to serve as a Board Certified Emergency Medicine Physician in multiple area hospitals in Pinellas County, and also in the capacity of a traveling physician to help with staffing shortages where and when needed beyond the Bay. Should we ever encounter one another in the ER, I pledge to serve you with skill, compassion, and kindness, no matter how daunting the challenge or dark the hour. Living in the Tampa Bay Area means being surrounded by vast natural beauty, which in turn nurtures sense of adventure and curiosity in each of my undertakings. When not in the ER, you may find me tossing the Frisbee around, or simply walking the beach to relax and find inspiration. If there is a game on, count on me root, root, rooting for the home teams as a sports fanatic here in “Champa Bay”…Let’s go Rays, Rowdies, Bucs, and Bolts! Andreas Grossgold, MD The Grossgold Clinic Dr. Andreas Grossgold has a passion for anti-aging medicine and integrative wellness. He has put his expertise in Integrative Medicine to use at his practice in Clearwater, Florida, helping his patients look and feel their best. Dr. Grossgold graduated from the New Granada Military School of Medicine at 24 years of age. He completed his internship and residency at University of Texas Medical School in Houston. He then dedicated himself to the field of Integrative Medicine, graduating with a doctorate at Capital University in Washington, D.C. He went onto complete a postdoctoral fellowship in neuroscience, cell and gene therapy at Baylor College of Medicine. He is currently a Lieutenant Commander with the US Navy Reserves. Dr. Grossgold also has extensive education in aesthetics medicine and has been the speaker at the International Skin and Age Management Congress in France, Spain, Germany, Italy and South America. Dr. Grossgold uses his extensive education and experience to treat patients with a whole body approach. He knows one of the secrets to feeling your best is looking your best, too. That is why Dr Grossgold founded The Grossgold Clinic, a medical clinic and full-service med spa, where he offers his patients many types of anti-aging and detoxification treatments to keep them looking and feeling “forever young”: IV therapy, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), stem cells, peptides, laser skin resurfacing, bio-identical hormone replacement, weight loss programs, facials and therapeutic body treatments, as well as Botox and fillers. The Grossgold Clinic also houses an IV lounge, where patients can get IV drips for hydration, nutrition, energy, immune function, and detoxification. These powerful blends include vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants like glutathione and NAD+. The clinic frequently hosts educational seminars, Botox and IV parties, classes and charity events. Dr. Grossgold is a provider of the Vampire Series of treatments, which make use of the patient’s “own stem cells,” platelet-rich plasma (PRP) all over the body. PRP can be micro-needled into the face to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture. It can also be injected into joints for age-related bone degeneration or used on the scalp for hair loss. Another usage for PRP is to improve sexual satisfaction and performance for both men and women. Anti-aging and Aesthetics medicine isn’t all Dr. Grossgold performs. As both a traditional internist, pediatrician and military surgeon, as well a doctor trained in Integrative Medicine, Dr. Grossgold treats a myriad of complex cases, including Lyme and associated diseases, mold and heavy metal toxicity, neurological disorders, and genetic and autoimmune disease. What distinguishes Dr. Grossgold from other western medical professionals is his mission to find the root cause of diseases and not just treating the symptoms. Photo by: Kimberely Jefcoat

Dedicated to providing exceptional care, Dr. Pfaff relates to her patients on a personal level, saying, “I knew I wanted to be a surgeon when I had thyroid surgery as a third-year medical student. That experience shaped my career as a physician and led me to pursue otolaryngology–head and neck surgery.” In addition to her passion for minimally invasive thyroid and parathyroid surgery, Dr. Pfaff ’s commitment to patient care was recently recognized by Inspire, naming her as a Physician of Excellence. Dr. Pfaff is among just a few physicians in Florida to perform the Inspire implant procedure, offering her patients the latest innovation in the surgical treatment of sleep apnea. For those with obstructive sleep apnea who do not benefit from traditional CPAP therapy, the Inspire device is an effective alternative, treating the underlying cause of sleep apnea, not just the symptoms. There he published five research papers and was asked to give a national talk on his research over his two-year span at the University. He continued on to the University of North Carolina for his Internal Medical Residency where he reaffirmed his interest in aging and adult medicine. After residency, he found his way back to Florida at Tampa General Hospital. Dr. Saran’s empathy and compassion for his patients drove his search for ways to provide better hands-on medical care for his community. Leading him to found his outpatient practice, The Health Associates of Tampa, in 2012. He continued his inpatient service as an internist at Tampa General Hospital and HCA Florida South Tampa Hospital, where he took on leadership positions. Starting as Vice Chief of Medicine and moving up to become Vice Chief of Staff for over 6 years. During this time, Dr. Saran also helped found The Florida Physician’s Alliance. This organization of 650 private physicians helps coordinate the care for patients between all their providers in the Tampa Bay Area. Dr. Saran has modeled his outpatient practice to best serve patients as a whole, specializing in patients above the age of 65 and Medicare Advantage. The practice uses a multidisciplinary approach with an innovative and patient centered model. His success comes from educating his patients so they may actively participate and engage to promote their own health. Dr. Jeetpaul Saran continues to provide the latest medical advances to his patients at The Health Associates of Tampa. Advances such as Vitalize, an IV age defying and cancer repelling therapy and Embody, a cutting-edge medical weight loss therapy program, all starting in March of this year.

Dr. Francisco M. Torres, M.D. Medical Director Wellness Program Florida Spine Institute Dr. Torres was born in Spain and grew up in Puerto Rico. He graduated from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine before performing his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at the Veterans Administration Hospital in San Juan. Later he completed a Musculoskeletal Fellowship at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. For three years, Dr. Torres served as a Clinical Instructor of Medicine and Assistant Professor at LSU before joining Florida Spine Institute in Clearwater, Florida, where he is the medical director of the Wellness Program. Today, Dr. Torres practices Interventional Physiatry, specializing in diagnosing and treating patients with spine-related pain syndromes. He is certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Board of Pain Medicine. He has authored and co-authored eight books and numerous articles in various medical journals. Dr. Torres has presented at multiple medical conferences across the country and is a recurring guest on the KevinMD podcast for healthcare practitioners. Dr. Torres's primary interest is in preventative medicine and using the sciences of epigenetics and psychology to drive better health outcomes for patients. In his latest book, Epigenetics and the Psychology of Weight Loss, Dr. Torres discusses findings from across scientific fields to shed light on how simple daily choices can help keep us healthy and young. He recently wrote about how mental and emotional wellness is essential to accomplishing desired physical health outcomes. "As a doctor, I realize I cannot help my patients if I do not take care of myself first. Before taking care of my physical and emotional well-being, I could not be the doctor I am today. I can better help my patients by being more alert, having more energy to attend to their needs, and showing them that change is possible. As a pain management physician, I noticed similar and more severe problems with my patients. Many of them had worked for a retirement they could no longer enjoy under the weight of crushing disease brought on by unhealthy lifestyles. They were not only sick; they were unhappy. My purpose is to instill hope in people that they can age with dignity and continue living on their terms. I want to inspire men and women of all ages to respect their bodies and treat them with care. I want to promote a culture of health so that I can see fewer patients suffering unnecessary pain so that fewer people might have to endure the crippling anxiety of poor health and low selfesteem." "I apply these same principles to my own wellness," Dr. Torres explains. Photo by: Kimberely Jefcoat

CELEBRITY SOUP

SUCCESSFUL ACTORS WHO STARTED THEIR CAREER LATER IN LIFE WHO SAYS YOU CAN’T TEACH AN OLD DOG NEW TRICKS? By Riesa Pascal

| TAMPASTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

CELEBRITY SOUP

We so often hear about child stars who successfully transition into successful adult actors that it can be easy to forget that this is not everyone’s story. Here are six renowned actors who gave up unrelated careers to pursue acting in their adult life and managed to make a name for themselves.

Ken Jeong Ken Jeong had an interest in comedy from a young age, but his early career path led him to become a licensed physician. Though he practiced medicine by day, Jeong moonlighted as a comic by night and eventually took his talents to Los Angeles where he continued to work as a stand-up comedian, actor, and doctor. After scoring several small roles, Jeong's medical background came in handy when Judd Apatow needed an actor who had medical knowledge for his 2011 romantic comedy, Knocked Up. At 39 years old, the role proved to be a game-changer and Jeong quickly became a household name landing numerous other hilarious roles in The Hangover series, Community, and more.

Terry Crews In 1991, Terry Crews was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams to play defense, but he ultimately played for several different teams over his five seasons of professional football. After making the difficult decision to retire at the age of 30, Crews fell into a depression before picking himself back up and deciding to try his hand at acting. He landed a series of small roles before securing his breakout role as the ex-con Damon Pearly in Ice Cube's cult hit, Friday After Next. Crews continued to show off his comedic skills on the big screen in the films White Chicks and The Longest Yard. Today, Crews is a household name with a starring role in the long-running sitcom, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and several memorable commercials for Old Spice.

Danny Glover Though Danny Glover acted throughout college in the 1960s, he decided post-graduation to work for the city of San Francisco as an evaluations specialist and program manager. A call to take up acting struck Glover in his late 20s and led him to set his sights on Hollywood. His breakthrough role came in his early 30s when he was cast in Steven Spielberg's Academy Award-winning drama, The Color Purple. In 1987, Glover became a household name when he co-starred opposite Mel Gibson in the actioncomedy Lethal Weapon, which turned into one of the most successful franchises of the 1980s and '90s. Glover also appeared in Predator 2 and Angels in the Outfield and remains an active actor today.

Mr. T Before he was a 1980s pop-culture sensation, Mr. T was just Lawrence Tureaud. His football talent as a youth earned him a university scholarship to play at Prairie View A&M University, but he was ultimately expelled after just one year. Tureaud then served as a military policeman in the Army. In the 1970s, he worked as a nightclub bouncer in Chicago and developed his Mr. T persona. At the age of 30, Sylvester Stallone saw Mr. T in a televised strongman competition and cast him as the trash-talking boxer Clubber Lang in Rocky III. The movie became a huge box-office hit and his famous catchphrase, "I pity the fool," became a part of the '80s lexicon. In 1983, Mr. T landed the role of B.A. Baracus on The A-Team and became so popular that he even got invited to the White House to meet Ronald Reagan… talk about a successful career transition!

Wanda Sykes The daughter of an Army colonel, Sykes worked as a procurement officer with high-level clearance at the National Security Agency after graduating college in Washington, D.C. However, Sykes knew she had a talent for making people laugh and often performed as a standup comedian while working at the NSA. Sykes's first opportunity to truly pursue show business came as a writer and performer on The Chris Rock Show in her late 30s which even earned her an Emmy Award. Sykes also landed impressive gigs on HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm, MonsterIn-Law, and even ABC's hit comedy, Black-ish among other hits. Today Sykes continues to be one of the top female stand-up comics in the country.

Jon Hamm Never thought I’d be jealous of a random high school in St. Louis, but I was after I found out that handsome Missouriborn actor John Hamm spent two years teaching high school drama there after finishing college! Maybe enough students (and their moms) told him he looked like a movie star, because in the mid-1990s he decided to head to Hollywood with the dream of becoming an actor. It wasn’t smooth sailing right away though and Hamm had to pick up waiting tables to make ends meet. Finally, at the age of 36, Hamm won his breakout role as Don Draper on the hit AMC drama Mad Men, eventually going on to even win an Emmy Award for his performance.

In this way, the new BMW 7 Series has been designed to meet the needs of a modern target group that sees itself as committed to meeting challenges in a responsible manner – and one that views personal mobility as a way to experience unique moments in everyday life and on trips away.

A symbol of innovative strength and a milestone in the current model offensive. The new BMW 7 Series incorporates a modern style that focuses on the essentials in its exterior and interior design. The front-end design for BMW vehicles in the luxury segment is dominated by features that are typical of the brand, but a clear distinction is maintained between these models and the others in the BMW range. Innovative features such as the BMW Theatre Screen, the multi-sensory vehicle experience BMW iDrive with the latest generation of BMW Operating System 8, plus the BMW Curved Display and the Manoeuvre Assistant for automated parking and manoeuvring, highlight the progressive character of the luxury sedan. In addition to the enhanced level of comfort and the unique in-car entertainment system, the Executive Lounge option for the rear with optimised reclining seat position and new BMW Individual Merino leather/cashmere wool interior trim takes a pioneering route to maximising wellbeing inside the car. 45 years on from the debut of the BMW 7 Series, the seventh model generation takes to the stage as the most advanced and innovative vehicle in the luxury segment. At the same time, the new edition captures the imagination with an overall design coherence unmatched by any rival. The BMW 7 Series is therefore once again a symbol of the BMW Group’s innovative strength. The world premiere of the new BMW 7 Series in April 2022 and its global market launch starting in November 2022 are the key milestones in the brand’s current model offensive in the luxury segment.
