Mayor Dolon Banerjee-Arden removed her antique watch, chandelier earrings, and sequined top. She turned quietly, stood with her feet apart, and stretched out her arms. The TSA agent felt sheepish and patted her awkwardly. Reclaiming her purse and carry-on, Mayor Banerjee redressed in her bright, red salwar kameez three piece suit. The comfortable pants called the salwar had a draw-string waist, curved at the hips, and tapered down the legs tight at the ankle adorned with sparkling beads. The top called the kameez, variant of the French chemise was sleeveless and embellished with bead work, and a sheer, beaded scarf called the orna completed her outfit. Used to the profiling, she put her ballet flats back on and walked toward the gate.
Mayor Banerjee prepared to address the legislature; she knew that all human beings were suspicious of unfamiliar things because they feared what they did not understand. The mayor of a tiny borough in New Jersey boarded the airplane to Washington, D.C. to present her plans. The populace in her own town had been chary with her at first, but Dolly, as her friends called her, had managed to win their support and confidence. She was determined to get her message across nationally and anticipated the opposition. Dolly had to get them to accept new
42 ideas and prepare for the future. She reviewed her outline; hopefully, her Fabulous Four would be fab in D.C.

Illegal entry is a felony, therefore granting them amnesty requires granting amnesty to all felons. Acts of amnesty insult to law-abiding, hard-working immigrants and their families. 2. The USA is returning to an era of racism and inequality. a. Exploiting illegals for cheap labor is no better than slavery. b. Separate Spanish signage creates linguistic segregation. 3. We do indeed have the labor force here at home.

Geoffrey Rushmore, a rising star, was lurking near the baggage claim. He graduated from the same university as his father and grandfather and nurtured dreams of running for President one day. With his political connections he interceded to obtain a pardon for his cousin Ricky an exile deemed an unrepentant terrorist by the United States Attorney General. Ricky had bombed an airplane in which sixty-seven passengers were killed, including a high school choir and two NFL football players. Many were outraged when Ricky Rushmore Garnica was released from prison and granted residency in the United States. Geoffrey's mother praised him for helping the family and advised, “You must always fight for our people!”
45 Geoffrey called his cousin Ricky. They had to do something about this Indian bitch whose ideas would make criminals of their people. The mayor with the unpronounceable name was flying into Washington, D.C. Bombing another plane would be too risky. Ricky was confident, “My people can stop her at the airport.” Upon claiming her luggage, Dolly planned to go straight to the Zubin Metha concert. She would finish her speech over a late dinner at the hotel. Suddenly a cloud of smoke whirled in front of Dolly as she lost balance. Her hand clasped her forehead as she collapsed. Confused, she looked at her hand and saw something red and the glare of lights in the air…which gave proof through many nights that her life was still there...And many more nights… And many more nights…And many more nights…And many more nights…And many more nights… “Mommy? I think she is conscious! Mommy! Mommy!” Hilly hoped, hugging her little sisters. Dolly’s mind was recovering but her heart suffered worse as she found herself unable to communicate with her children. She longed to ask Hilly how she liked middle school, hug the twins, and sing their special family lullaby. As a casual violinist, she composed music no better than lyrics. The comatose Mayor was singing:

Rare are those who become legends and rarer still are those who do so during their lifetimes. Singer, actor, playwright and music composer par excellence – Pankaj Kumar Mullick was one such who through sheer dint of genius and talent not only became a Living Legend but also a revered cultural icon of the nation during his lifetime. He was the exponent of Rabindra sangeet, and was inspired by these words by Tagore himself: “All those lyrics of mine that I will not get the opportunity to set tune to during my lifetime, I leave to you to embellish them with your music.” . CAREER HIGHLIGHTS & SALIENT FACTS
(1) He joined All India Radio (AIR), Kolkata in 1927, within a month of its inception. He was an integral part of AIR for nearly 50 years. (2) At AIR he set music to the immortal ‘Mahishasuramardini’, a program that has become a part of Bengali culture and
48 synonymous with Durga Puja. It is heard every ‘Mahalaya’ morning and has had an uninterrupted run since its beginning in 1931. (3) He conceptualized and started the immensely popular livemusic class titled – ‘Sangeet Shikshar Ashar’ which he did for a record 47 years. (4) He became a part of Indian cinema right from the silent era, since 1931. He was a part of the star studded New Theatres Studio team for nearly 25 years. (5) Luminaries like K L Saigal, S D Burman, Hemanta Mukherjee, Geeta Dutt and Asha Bhosle sang under his music direction as did several other prominent artistes from Bengal and the rest of the country. Education is Important By: Shaktik Bhattacharyya 10 years A world without education would be a world where humans live like animals. It would be a world that would struggle to grow, and would be difficult to evolve in. Therefore, education is an important part of the world. Without it, there would be no communication, science, and math. These are all basic skills that people use all the time. This would make it hard in the real world, since you wouldn’t know how to survive. It is an essential part of life. If education were a privilege, rich or powerful people will only have it. Everyone is born with the natural ability to learn, so they should be able to use it. If education were a right, the world would modernize faster, and would include many benefits. Since people become educated, they can spread knowledge. Having education as a privilege would include many downfalls, which will ruin the world. Some are people with no jobs, money, or knowledge. The economy would go down.It would be like the great depression, just with an extended amount of time. Another downfall is that the people would not be able to tell right from wrong. They would do things the regular person would not do, such as drink and smoke. Crime would go up, and the economy would go down. On the other hand, rights are a better choice.

The Giant Cruise Ishika Hazra 7 Years Last thanksgiving break, I went on a cruise with my family and friends. The ship was enormous and was called Brilliance of the seas.
All my friends and their families had joined us on the cruise too. The cruise was for 4 nights and 5 days and went from Miami to Cozumel and KeyWest.
My family had a small room on the top floors of the ship and most my friends were in different rooms on the same
64 floor. We had a lot of fun on the ship. We went to a daycare called daddy daycare and there we made this cool pink goo made out of toilet water, salt and pink food coloring. We also swam in the pool and got in the hot tub. We stopped at Cozumel the day after we boarded the ship. We went shopping there and I got two small turtles for my room. We also went to a butterfly sanctuary and there were lots of different colors, books and paintings of butterflies. When we got back on the ship, we ran around the whole ship and then ate a lot of fun foods like, hotdogs, macaroni & cheese. We had ice cream after every meal on the cruise.
On the way back we stopped at Key West and a storm shook our ship. I was scared when the ship rocked the entire night. I was scared because I am not good at swimming and did not want to get lost in the sea. The next day we all were seasick and we had too take medicines but thankfully we were getting off the ship and everyone was happy to finally be going home.

My Hero: Clara Barton Anandita Mitra

Today I wish to tell you a story about my hero Clara Barton. Clara Barton was born in Massachusetts on December 25, 1821. She was the youngest of five children of her parents. In 1839 Clara became a teacher. She taught school for 15 years. She moved to Washington D.C.in 1854. She was a Civil War nurse who founded the American Red Cross in 1881. After the civil war, Clara helped families find 22,000 missing homes or dead soldiers. We learned a lot of interesting facts about her. She was helpful, kind, and brave because she helped wounded soldiers and went to the battle field and also did things that meant risking herself. I even saw the battle field. Clara Barton is my hero because in her life she helped a lot of people.

Primates

Imagine that you are wandering through the rainforest hoping to find life lurking in the trees. After a long time, you start hearing chittering noises, and you look up to see monkeys peering down at you. These monkeys belong to the group that you and I also belong to: Primates. Primates are a diverse group of mammals very well known for their social statuses, geographic habitat and their genetic relations with other primates. In fact, most of the primates have opposable thumbs and toes (not human feet) used for gripping. Most people believe that primates are only arboreal, or tree-living, furry monkeys, but this is not the truth. Some primates actually spend their lives on the ground. Scientists called primatologists have separated the 300 species, depending on the body shape, and lifestyles: Prosimians, Monkeys, and Apes
Prosimians are the most primitive primates in the world. They retain characteristics that resemble those of the ancestors, hence
69 their name meaning "pre-monkeys". The most well known prosimians are the lemurs. Most live on the African island of Madagascar. Lemurs, along with sifakas, indri and ruffed lemurs, live in mainly female-led troops. The strangest lemur of them all is the elusive aye-aye. This nocturnal creature is known for its very elongated and super flexible middle finger used for grabbing grubs from tree trunks. There are other prosimians outside of Madagascar. Lorises and tarsiers are found living in the trees of tropical Asia and hunting only during the night. Bush babies and galagos live in the trees of East Africa and like their Asian cousins, they are mainly nocturnal, coming out only during the night. Monkeys are the most numerous of the three primate groups with several more species than the other groups. These very swift creatures are classified based on their locations on Earth. New World monkeys, such as marmosets, tamarins, and capuchins, live in the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. Many species of New World monkey have a prehensile tail which is used for gripping on to branches. On the other side of the world are the Old World monkeys. These African and Asian species consist of baboons, macaques, colobus, and langurs. While some are arboreal like their New World relatives, some species such as baboons are more at home on the ground. One way you can tell if a monkey is an Old World species or a New World species is by the presence of a prehensile tail. Old World monkeys don't have prehensile tails. Photo: Shayak Chaudhury
