Welcome to worship at Second-Ponce! We hope you find this hour to be joyful and transformative. Our church has something for everyone, and not just on Sundays. During the week, we have special dinners, small groups and Bible studies. Wednesday evenings, we share Fellowship Supper followed by adult discipleship and ageappropriate activities for children and teens. We hope you'll join us! And now that you know a little about us, help us get to know you better by completing the blue or green card located in the pew rack and hand it to a minister or drop it in the offering plate.

HOW TO JOIN

Second-Ponce enthusiastically welcomes you to make a commitment to Christ and our community of faith. At any time during the Hymn of Response, simply walk to the front of the Sanctuary where a member of our ministry team will greet you with warmth and joy. If you're uncomfortable being "in the spotlight," but still want to join–that's ok! Speak with of one our ministers after worship and they'll walk you through an alternative plan.

SHARING AN OFFERTORY PRAYER

Ben Allison and his wife, Pauline, have been members since 2003. Ben currently serves as an active Deacon and teaches in the Open Door Sunday School Class. Before retiring, Ben owned and operated a small landscape and lawn maintenance company. He also retired from the U.S. Army Reserve as First Sergeant. Ben still loves being outside growing flowers and vegetables.

We love to see children at Second-Ponce, and we have a Kids’ Club area just for them! It's one floor up from the Sanctuary, and our greeters will be happy to show you the way. In the Kids' Club, there’s a nursery and Kids Worship for babies–5th grade. You may take your children to the Kids' Club before the service or, if you prefer, they can stay with you in the Sanctuary for the entire hour or until the Doxology (when kids leave with children's ministry leaders). After worship, pick them up in the Kids’ Club.

SHARING PRAYER REQUESTS

At Second-Ponce, you have a church family who welcomes the opportunity to join you in prayer. Let us know your prayer needs by filling out a request card located on the back of the pew rack. You can drop it in the offering plate or give it to a member of the Second-Ponce ministerial staff after worship.

GIVING AN OFFERING

The flowers in the Baptistry and on the Communion Table are given in honor of SARA MADDOX for her birthday, August 15. They are given by her family.

Your financial support of Second-Ponce allows us to carry out the mission God has for our church. There are giving cards in the pew racks that utilize a QR code for making gifts online. You may also drop your offering in the offering plate.

Today, after worship, we're encouraging folks to get together in small groups and head out to have lunch together. Just meet at the North Bridge entrance (near the church office) after worship, find a group and a restaurant that suits you and off you go! These will be informal, light-hearted fellowship so come prepared to laugh together, swap stories and eat good food!

Join us for a delicious meal followed by our current adult discipleship series— Daniel: A Pattern and A Promise—led by Rev. John Uldrick. Throughout this August study, we'll learn about the book of Daniel including themes and messages that are still relevant for us today. SANCTUARY AMBASSADORS

There's Nothing Like Being Known

There’s nothing like being known. I experienced this feeling just over a month ago when I returned to my hometown to host an 80th birthday celebration for my father. So many of my parents’ friends came through to greet my dad and visit with my mother. I got the chance to be seen, patted on the back and encouraged by so many people I hadn't seen in decades. Time after time, conversation after conversation, I realized that those folks—my parents' friends—were paying attention to what the Georgia Uldricks had been up to all these years. They asked about the new church I’d been serving. They remarked at how much Charlie and Annalise had grown as they pointed across the room at them. They knew me. They knew my family. I felt seen in a way that is hard to describe. These interactions and conversations reminded me of why community and care are so valuable.

In this very room, we are surrounded by Ambassadors! Did you know that? A dedicated group of SPdL members intentionally looks for guests in worship each week. The Sanctuary Ambassador team serves as a connecting point, representing the warmth and connection many of us value so much at Second-Ponce. These important ambassadors spread out in our worship space, look for new faces and purposefully greet those new faces, spreading the warmth and welcome of Second-Ponce. The team takes the good information they learn and shares it with the ministerial staff, too. The work of the Sanctuary Ambassador team enables the ministers to “meet’” more people from week to week.

The Sanctuary Ambassador team is building and creating community and care in our midst. They are working to learn names and life stories, attempting to make connections that might engage worship guests and encourage them to come back to worship again. I think connection is one of the most important things we do each Sunday morning. Sure, we study Scripture together and we worship the God we serve.  But we also share life and that is so valuable.

I want to challenge you today to take on the role as an Ad hoc Sanctuary Ambassador from your seat in the Sanctuary. Don’t recognize a face? Introduce yourself! It’s ok. Learn something about a guest in worship? Share that information with Patti George and Juliane Watts. Most Sundays after worship, they’re huddled in the middle section sharing notes about the people they met. It takes each one of us to continue to build on the SPdL legacy of sharing warmth, connection and hope to our community. Won’t you join us?

LABOR OF LOVE | WRITING NOTES OF ENCOURAGEMENT

During the day, Friday, September 1, we're encouraging our church family to stop by a note writing station outside of the Chapel to share a prayer for our staff, ministers, Deacons, committees, councils, classes, etc. This act is the "Labor of Love." These notes will be delivered to the folks who have been prayed for. If you prefer, these notes can be from anonymous senders.

SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS

Holiday weekends often take our folks out of town, so we're offering a new community and discipleship opportunity on those special Sundays where attendance might be a little lower than usual. Beginning in the Fellowship Hall, we'll gather for a churchwide breakfast followed by time of blessing and prayer and then begin Sunday School at 10 a.m. Adults will remain in the Fellowship Hall for a group class. Children and youth will disperse for their usual routine. No RSVP required.
