WORSHIP OF GOD

PRELU DE Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven arr. Innes Verleen Baerg, organ

CHORAL CALL TO WORSHIP

HYMN NO. 281 Love Divine, All Loves Excelling BEECHER

WELCOME & INVOCATION Rev. Allie Osborne

SCRIPTURE Psalm 19:1–10; 14 Jennifer Uldrick

Leader: The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims His handiwork. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge.

People: There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard;

Leader: Yet their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In the heavens He has set a tent for the sun,

People: Which comes out like a bridegroom from his wedding canopy, and like a strong man runs its course with joy.

Leader: Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them; and nothing is hid from its heat.

People: The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the decrees of the Lord are sure, making wise the simple;

Leader: The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is clear, enlightening the eyes;

People: The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.

Leader: More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey, and drippings of the honeycomb.

People: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

POSTLUDE Chorale and Variations Sweelinck Verleen Baerg, organ

Welcome to worship at Second-Ponce! We hope you find this hour to be joyful and transformative. Our church has something for everyone, and not just on Sundays. During the week, we have special dinners, small groups and Bible studies. Wednesday evenings, we share Fellowship Supper followed by adult discipleship and ageappropriate activities for children and teens. We hope you'll join us! And now that you know a little about us, help us get to know you better by completing the blue or green card located in the pew rack and hand it to a minister or drop it in the offering plate.

HOW TO JOIN

Second-Ponce enthusiastically welcomes you to make a commitment to Christ and our community of faith. At any time during the Hymn of Response, simply walk to the front of the Sanctuary where a member of our ministry team will greet you with warmth and joy. If you're uncomfortable being "in the spotlight," but still want to join–that's ok! Speak with of one our ministers after worship and they'll walk you through an alternate plan.

ADDITIONAL SUNDAY INFORMATION

CHILDCARE DURING WORSHIP

We love to see children at Second-Ponce, and we have a Kids’ Club area just for them! It's one floor up from the Sanctuary, and our greeters will be happy to show you the way. In the Kids' Club, there’s a nursery and Kids Worship for babies–5th grade. You may take your children to the Kids' Club before the service or, if you prefer, they can stay with you in the Sanctuary for the entire hour or until the Doxology (when kids leave with children's ministry leaders). After worship, pick them up in the Kids’ Club.

SHARING PRAYER REQUESTS

At Second-Ponce, you have a church family who welcomes the opportunity to join you in prayer. Let us know your prayer needs by filling out a request card located on the back of the pew rack. You can drop it in the offering plate or give it to a member of the Second-Ponce ministerial staff after worship.

A STORY OF GIVING AS LOVE Fred and Vivian Williams

SHARING THEIR GIVING STORY

Fred and Vivian Williams joined Second-Ponce in January, 2020. They were married in 1968 after meeting three years earlier as freshmen at Morris Brown College in Atlanta. After graduation in 1969, they moved to Boston, Massachusetts where Fred earned his MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration, and Vivian worked as a Secretary in the Afro-American Studies Department at Harvard College. After moving back to Atlanta in 1971, both held various positions in accounting and banking. Fred recently retired from heading his own accounting firm. Vivian was previously ordained a Deacon in a sister church where Fred sang in the choir and served on the Board of Trustees.

Your financial support of Second-Ponce allows us to carry out the mission God has for our church. There are giving cards in the pew racks that utilize a QR code for making gifts online. You may also drop your offering in the offering plate.

WEEK 2: THIS IS OUR STORY, THIS IS OUR SONG

October 8–14 Week 2 Focus: Giving is Love www.spdl.org/october

All our giving should be an outgrowth of our love for God and others. Our love flows out of what we give– not what we hoard.

• Read: 1 Corinthians 16:14; Mark 12:41–44

• Consider: What was the widow’s purpose in giving her all? What do your actions show about your love for God? Love for others? How does your life need to change to reflect those priorities? How does your giving need to change?

• Act: Generously show someone you love them by doing something special, possibly even sacrificial. Consider how you might do the same for God.

• Listen: Find our specially curated playlists at www.spdl.org/october.
