HELP SALUTE OUR MILITARY

The Victorville Military Banner Program began in 2007, as an effort to pay tribute and to recognize Victorville’s military population who are serving in a presidential decreed war zone. The program is funded through sponsorships, which enable the purchase and placement of the banners on City lampposts. The banners have the service person’s name and military branch, with an acknowledgement of thanks for their service. At the end of their tour, the banners are presented to the soldier as a keepsake. If you know of a current Victorville resident who is serving in a presidential decreed war zone, please let their family know so that they, too, may be recognized.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE? Individuals who currently serve in the United States Armed Forces on active duty, in a presidential decreed war zone, and Victorville is the home of record. We invite your support and participation in this significant program. With your contribution we will continue to honor Victorville’s Hometown Heroes. Please join us with your sponsorship! To sponsor a banner, call Monica Petersen at 760-955-3306 or email mpetersen@victorvilleca.gov.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A BRIDGE MAKES

It may have been a long time in the making, but since the end of summer, residents and com-muters have been enjoying the convenience afforded by the completion of the La Mesa/Nisqualli Interchange project on Interstate 15. Whether you’re just trying to get across the freeway, or want to exit within the three mile stretch between the busy Bear Valley Road and Palmdale Road interchanges, you have no doubt appreciated the much welcomed relief this interchange has provided. It has also greatly improved local circulation within the City of Victorville, as well as the overall operation of the freeway. The interchange project, jointly managed by SANBAG and Caltrans, was in the planning and design stages since 1990, and finally broke ground in January 2012. The grand opening was celebrated by hundreds of residents with a ribbon cutting ceremony on August 23, 2013. Winter/Spring 2014
