Michael shares their love stor y: “We had been together for four and a half years. On our way back to Tambo from Brisbane, we stopped at a coffee shop in Marburg to ask if there was somewhere which offered accommodation and maybe something to eat. We were directed to a stunning heritage proper ty on the hill.

After a delicious dinner in the venue’s restaurant, I knew I had found the right place and time to pop the question. I was so ner vous, but when Randall said ‘Yes’ straight away, my ner ves quickly turned to elation. I had the ring for 11 months and was just waiting for the right time.”

“We both loved the atmosphere at the venue so much that we decided it would be perfect for our commitment ceremony. After speaking with the wedding coordinator, who agreed to how we wanted the day to run, we put the plans in motion. When it came to choosing our Celebrant, we researched online and chose Kerrie Barber-White when we saw she mentioned ‘same-sex’ on her website.”

“Half of our guests were from our home town. We had a weekend celebration. Friday was the meet and greet, followed by a BBQ in the evening. Saturday was the par ty, with a hear ty, English-style countr y meal. Ever yone enjoyed a Sunday breakfast before heading home.”

The venue’s formal, elegant setting created a wonderful mood for the speeches. Randall’s parents had both passed away two years before (6 weeks apar t). Their memor y was subtly incorporated by placing two lanterns on the bridal table. The lanterns had their initials engraved on the front and their names on the back. Each table had glass mirrors with a fishbowl containing a fighter fish, also as a tribute to Randall’s dad.

To set the mood, Piper Joe (from Ipswich) star ted playing bagpipes ever y half hour from noon. At 3pm, he played for the guests as they waited for the ceremony to begin.
