Top 3 Wedding Ring Tips from Brisbane’s Leading Jeweller

1. PLAN AHEAD

We advise couples to start wedding ring shopping around 4 months out from their wedding day. This gives enough time to look at options and designs and be sure of the ring they are going to wear forever.

2. THINK ABOUT METALS AND DIAMONDS

There has never been more choice in metals when manufacturing wedding rings. Metals include platinum, platinum 600, titanium, tantalum, palladium, carbon fibre and of course yellow, rose, and white gold. Depending on your work and lifestyle, a particular metal may suit your needs better. There is even a choice when it comes to diamonds with both laboratory created and mined diamonds being equally as popular.

3. CONSIDER HANDMADE V CAD

At Xennox we have an onsite workshop with our own jewellers and diamond setter, so we love to hand make wedding rings. Handmade will be heavier than a CAD and there’s something special about jewellers rolling the gold for your ring and crafting it instore for you.

At Xennox Diamonds we are here to make it simple for you and be your guide in creating your perfect rings. Check out some of our happy clients here: xennox diamonds reviews - Google Search

We would love to meet you and be a small part of your special day. Book a time here to chat to the team, either virtually or in store and book an appointment here: www.xennoxdiamonds.com.au/book-appointment

& CHIL

Falling in love with Chil wasn’t like falling at all – it was like hesitantly walking into a house and then instantly having this uncharted sort of happiness from knowing that you’re home.

Congratulations CRISTEL
4.5.22 NSW

Cristel Gonzales and Chil Guño met nine years ago. “We remained mere acquaintances for over a year. We had chanced upon each other a lot and would do the occasional nod but never really spoke until we found ourselves in the same get-together with a big group. What was a full day of trivial conversations and casual banter turned into a friendship. Chil said she quickly developed a tiny crush on me until it became too big to just be ignored! Eventually our friendship turned into a steady ‘situationship’. It was everything you’d think could be love, but we were pretty good at reeling it in. It remained that way for a while because neither of us wanted to be the first to admit we were in love, but once we did, we were all in!”

“We were in Tromsø, Norway over the holidays in 2019. The original plan was to propose under the Northern Lights because the chances of it showing were supposedly really high during that season. Chil had it organised with our tour guide in advance and they even brought bubbles and an intimate picnic spread for us to enjoy a private moment away from our small group afterwards. The Aurora, however, decided not to turn up that night and remained elusive for several days! Plan B was at a very scenic viewpoint of the fjord and surrounding mountains in Senja. We got up for an early morning drive on 3rd January only to be met with a massive snowstorm. We got there eventually and the snowstorm stopped shortly after, but there was zero visibility. Chil was having an internal panic while coming up with a Plan C but within 30 minutes the sky cleared and the picturesque view finally revealed itself. Just as we were feeling small and in awe of this amazing sight of nature, Chil said her spiel. That night, the Aurora showed up as if to congratulate us.”

“We were going for a classic, romantic and elegant setting for the ceremony and tablescape for dinner. We didn’t have a specific theme in mind but had particular things we wanted to have on the day such as using the trees as the base of our arbour, the light tunnel for dinner, big white peonies or double tulips for the bouquets, and blush and toffee tones for the floral decor.”

“Waking up to a clear day after more than two weeks of rain was definitely one of the highlights. We started the day more excited than ever because we knew we would be able to have our ceremony outside of the cottage of Byron View Farm and dine under the stars with the light tunnel surrounding us. We hid our dresses from each other for about a year so we had our first look / dress reveal. We had a few bouts of emotions, partly because of each other’s radiance and partly in disbelief that we were about to finally be married. It gave us a moment together before the ceremony to connect, take a deep breath and bask in this surreal happiness. It’s something we’ll never forget. We chose to hand write our vows which made us feel more in tune with ourselves not just as we were writing them, but moreso while reading them to each other on our wedding day. ‘Your vows were very you, and my vows were very me’, was Chil’s feedback when I asked her about what she thought. It was both easy and a feat writing the best combination of words that encapsulated it all and we are happy to have put our own authenticity into it. We were surprised at how many people cried from the exchange and we were so glad they felt the profoundness of what the day meant for us.”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is be mindful of how easy it is to fall into the traps of stress from the pressures of planning a wedding. There are so many details you didn’t think you would have to decide on to make sure it will be a perfect day for everyone. Ideally, take on tasks you’re good at or have a particular inclination towards. Chil is great with design so naturally she had a lot more to say on the dining setting, arbour style and placement and colour schemes. I am a very food-driven person so I took on the menu selection and all the cake-related decisions, plus I had particular ideas on the flowers so I took those on. You’d still run decisions by each other but owning specific areas means you can each focus on what to research, which suppliers you communicate with, costing, etc. Most importantly, try to have fun with it. At the end of the day, regardless if every detail doesn’t go to plan, the important bit remains: You will be married to the person you chose to do life with.”

“We haven’t planned an official honeymoon yet because we had visiting guests from overseas and decided to spend time with them. We then spent two weeks after the wedding just enjoying every single second of each other’s company – honeymooning in our new house, or eating and drinking and laughing all over Brisbane! We’re planning to visit Manila next year to have our post-wedding party with our friends and family and then see Tassie at the peak of winter.”

For our photoshoot, we wanted to capture the real uscasual and naturally happy. Instead of the more common posed photos. After the ceremony, we opted to go around Byron town for a more urban setting and a relaxed shoot before headed back up to the Hinterland.

Congratulations DAVID & CHRIS 6.5.22 NSW

We had a very clear image of how we pictured our wedding day. We wanted rustic hinterland charm combined with the refined beauty of our local coastline. So we referred to our theme as Country Coastal.

David Natoli and Christopher Hanzic met at work. “Funnily enough our fathers had worked together for many years but the opportunity to meet each other never actually arose. Chris and I met through employment at Woolworths as teenagers. We were both hired and commenced working there at the same time. Although we didn’t really talk with each other much, we were friendly but it was more of a professional relationship. We had a mutual friend, Sabrina who worked with us and our relationship built from hanging out together as a group. We started talking to each other outside of that friendship group which led to dating. We went through university together, both studying to become Registered Nurses and have both been working in the field for about six years.”

“Marriage had always been something we had discussed although it wasn’t overly important to us. We were both just comfortable in the commitment we had made to each other. While we had no plans of getting married, after a while we found an Australian ring designer in Tasmania who specialised in making unique jewellery pieces out of non-traditional materials. We both decided on designs we liked and ordered the rings. They sat in our cupboards for some time until Easter 2020 when David proposed to me. This was in April of 2020. Shortly after, David began working with our designer again and created two one-of-a-kind pieces unbeknown to me.”

“We wanted our wedding day to be a reflection of us as a couple. We are very casual people, but at the same time we like to enjoy some of the finer things in life. The first thing we did was research venues that we felt suited us as a couple and were willing to work alongside us to bring our vision to life. Having explored multiple venues, it was Mavis Kitchen & Cabins and their amazing team of dedicated professionals that stole our hearts. We decided on warm Autumn tones for our colour theme. We created a Pinterest board and filled it was anything and everything weddings that fit within our theme and style. This formed the foundations of our wedding day. Flowers played a massive role in the decoration of our entire day. Simple garlands of greenery with a slight pop of colour are simplistic and beautiful. Rather than a traditional guest register, we had a linen bound book with blank pages as well as an Instax camera and fancy pens. Guests were able to take a photo with the camera, stick it into the book and write a message. We hired a photo booth which was awesome entertainment. Our guests went crazy with it. We were given electronic copies of all the photos.”

“We worked with Ben Carlyle to build a ceremony that was truly us. It was authentic, there was laughter, and there were tears. Ben was amazing and so engaging. A musician played live music for the ceremony, canapés and into the reception. We had a predefined point in our ceremony where our musician then turned DJ for the remainder of the night.”

The team at Mavis Kitchen & Cabins are basically magicians! They were attentive. The atmosphere they created! The food… OMG the food! They nailed the entire day.

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to budget money in the places that you value as a couple. For us this meant creating memories throughout the day. Our highlights were the ceremony, the flowers, the food, our guest book, the photo booth and the live music. Make the special moments special. We used Sparkulars to highlight our reception entry and cake cutting and had fog for our first dance. These added another element of entertainment for our guests while creating beautiful photos. Your photographer and videographer are invaluable as they create the main form of memory you will look back on so invest wisely! Settle on a theme and stick with it. It’s the small details that we really appreciate from our day.”

“We were exhausted after the wedding and spent a couple of days at Oaks Casuarina Santai Resort. We then flew to Hamilton Island and spent time relaxing by the water, taking tours to the Great Barrier Reef and Whitehaven Beach.”

The Sunshine Coast is a smaller community and our vendors are all close friends. Our photographer, Jodie introduced us to Vanessa at Uniqueness Jewellery who incorporated our love story into the most beautiful sets of rings.

Congratulations ALEXANDER & JOSHUA 6.8.22 QLD

A highlight was seeing all the love our friends and family have for us and sharing our happiest day so far with them all. Josh snuck Chanel into the room at Altitude while he finished getting ready and those moments with best friends Sean and Tara and Chanel helped calm any nerves in the lead up.

Alexander Vlasits and Joshua Dickson met through Tinder. “It took a few days for Josh to gain the courage to send the first message but after some ‘liquid courage’ at a house party for one, we didn’t stop messaging. It was an instant connection that has continued to grow to this day.”

Joshua took a day off work to take Alexander to Granite Bay, his favourite beach in Noosa National Park. Alexander knew something was up and knew the proposal was coming as the ring was custom made and already in the house. “It was poorly hidden as he was wearing it on his days off work, even wearing it to dinner with Joshua’s parents one night before the proposal actually happened! However on the day Joshua planned to propose, the Council were doing repairs to the path to Granite Bay and the footpath was closed. After hiking a decent way on a warm day, we stopped to take in the beautiful ocean view when Josh blurted out, ‘Do you want the ring?’ and then threw the ring box at me! We then went back to Hastings Street and met with Joshua’s parents for celebratory cocktails on the beachfront. To this day, noone believes Joshua actually threw the box at me!”

The wedding theme was Native with Nude Tones. Josh’s highlight was standing under the pavilion and seeing Alexander being walked down the stairs by his father.

Alexander loved the quiet time he had in the morning with his wedding party getting ready, sharing beautiful memories and endless laughter. “One of the most special moments I had was walking up to the glasshouse and having my dad see me for the first time. I will never forget as we were walking down the stone stairs to the pavilion, how dad almost pushed me off the stairs as they were so steep. Thankfully we made it down safely and I didn’t go rolling down the hill!”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to book the vendors you connect with as they will get to know you over the first few meetings and then leave what you can in their hands. We were lucky enough to connect with so many amazing vendors during wedding showcases, many of whom were instant connections. The vendors got to know us and our ideas of what we wanted. The results were an absolute ‘A Team’ of vendors and the most stunning of wedding days.”

“We spent a few nights on the Gold Coast after the wedding and are planning a month holiday exploring Tasmania for our first wedding anniversary and late honeymoon. Our work schedules don’t allign, therefore staying at home and enjoying one another’s company after the wedding was honestly better than a honeymoon!”

“ We wanted to embrace the incredible mountain views from our venue so
our
warm, moody
incorporating as much of nature
possible with candles and grog! Congratulations DIJANNA & TANYA 16.10.21 QLD

Our wedding venue was beyond magical. If we could do it all over again we would still pick the same venue and all other vendors as they were incredible! It is amazing the difference in experience you have when the people involved in your wedding day are so warm and friendly. Jodie (our photographer) made the day complete by having such a fun and playful attitude. It really helped us feel comfortable being photographed and we had a blast!

Dijanna Lawler and Tanya Tramontin met at the RSPCA. “I was working there when Tanya came into the shelter to donate a car load of items for the shelter animals (food, blankets, toys etc). I was the person who served her at the counter. I had jumped in to help the other staff, otherwise I would not have been out there - pure chance/fate! We collect details of anyone who donates items so we can post a thank you on our RSPCA facebook page. Once we made contact, we continued talking and hit it off right away. We have been glued at the hip ever since.”

“We often visit zoos as we are both animal lovers. We were visiting Australia Zoo and had a dingo encounter booked in. There was a film crew and photographer at the encounter and they told me they were videoing encounters since they hadn’t filmed any encounters recently due to Covid. I agreed and as we were playing with the dingoes and getting photos, the zoo keeper handed me a fact sheet about them - but that was not at all the case! It was a fact sheet of the reasons why Tanya loves me. And before I knew it, she was on one knee. Dingoes giving me kisses and my partner proposing... What more could a girl ask for?”

“Our wedding day highlights were every single part of it! Everything was perfect from beginning to end, but a huge highlight was getting our photos and videos done. It was fun and playful! And how could we not enjoy the fun at the reception - dancing to the Nutbush, Macarena and Rocky Horror Picture Show!”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is don’t overthink it! Take a relaxed approach to finding vendors and to the wedding planning. It should be enjoyable for you both. We were not expecting to plan our wedding in just two months. We weren’t getting married for at least a year or two but it ended up being the best thing we ever did as it left no time to second guess our planning decisions. We embraced the fun and excitement of the wedding to come.”

“Unfortunately, due to my health (diagnosed with Stage 4 Bowel Cancer three months before the wedding, which is why we brought our wedding forward), we were unable to go on a honeymoon as I needed to stay in Brisbane for my chemotherapy treatments.”

“ Green and Glowy would be a good way to describe our wedding theme. We wanted it to be personable, but still feel lush!

Christina Shepherd and Lauren Henry met through a mutual friend on a birthday weekend getaway.

“The proposal was a mutual decision. No one really proposed although Lauren did get on one knee as a joke when we picked up our rings lol. We went into the city one day and decided to try some rings on and get some Japanese food. We walked out choosing exactly the opposite of what we both told each other we wanted and our rings actually match, both engagement and wedding bands, the only difference is mine is platinum and Lauren’s is yellow gold.”

“We designed our invitations together with our friend Kat, a graphic designer who has created several other friends’ invites. They were printed at Print Shop in Sydney. I also built a wedding website to house all information for the wedding that could be helpful and to manage RSVP’s for us.”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is don’t wear heels and find a venue as cool as Tamburlaine. Crystal was amazing and so detail orientated – We could not have done it without her!”

“We are planning to honeymoon in Asia. After the wedding we had a week’s holiday in Melbourne and stayed at The Crown. It was very fancy!”

A wedding day highlight was definitely the wine lol. We loved our cake. It was a beautiful white on the outside decorated with a white orchid but when we cut into it, it was rainbow! We also had an epic donut wall. We loved the venue’s deck which was styled with fairy lights and a lounge set-up. It was all beautiful and glowy and gorgeous. Oh! and our friend Emily made a speech that made everyone giggle which was very cool.

“ We just wanted to have a great party with no stress... a relaxed vibe with lots of colour! Congratulations GEORGIA & LIZZIE 30.4.22 NSW

Georgia Mealey and Lizzie Rix met on a dating site called Her.

“The proposal happened while we were on holidays in Mooloolaba. We spent the morning getting massages and then having lunch at a winery in the mountains. We then went to sit on the beach like we did every afternoon. I asked Lizzie (very nervously) to marry me. She said ‘Yes!’ before asking me to pass her wallet. She then took out a ring that she has been carrying for three months and asked me to marry her back!”

“Our wedding day highlights included getting ready together. We spent the morning having breakfast and even had time for a nap. Walking in together and having all our family and friends in one room and, of course, the dance floor!”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is don’t worry about what’s trending or traditions, do what you both want and don’t overthink it.”

“We are planning a honeymoon to Europe in April 2023.”

Our flower dog was our girl named Poppie. She was very well behaved and the star of the show.

Congratulations LISA & MARIA 14.5.22 QLD WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY BY SHE SAID YES!

One of our highlights was the ceremony as we got to say our personal vows. The ceremony was held in the Courtyard Garden and the reception was in the Library Bar and Rosewood Room at Hillstone St Lucia. We liked how the venue had two levels for eating and dancing at the end of the night.

Lisa and Maria met at Electra House, a bar in Adelaide in August 2017. “Maria’s brother Adam introduced us and we ended up having a conversation that felt like it lasted forever but also not long enough. We didn’t really talk again that night, but we instantly knew there was something there. A few weeks later, we bumped into each other again at the same bar and this time we ended up talking more. Then Maria asked me, ‘Do you have Snapchat?’ and I said, ‘No but I have a phone number’. I grabbed Maria’s phone from her and saved my number with my name and a love heart eyes emoji. Maria’s first text to me was 2 love hearts.”

“Maria had been planning the proposal for months. She prepared me for a night out by saying we had to attend a work Christmas function at Gambaro Seafood Restaurant. She had also booked Gambaro Hotel, which is special to us as she took me there once and I fell in love with the place. While planning the proposal, Maria also set up a Christmas treasure hunt to get me off the trail because I can get a bit nosy. The morning of the proposal Maria said she had to go into work. She came back after a few hours and off to the hotel we went. When we entered the hotel room, I was greeted with a sweet note from Maria, flower petals everywhere, a map of where we first met, champagne and a present which was a puzzle that said, ‘Will you marry me?’. I turned back to Maria shocked and confused because she was always saying she didn’t want to get married. She took the ring out and said, ‘Will you?’ and without finishing or waiting for a response nervously ‘shoved’ it on my finger. I hugged her and said, ‘Yes of course’.”

“Our wedding theme was Rustic Vibes. We wanted it to be elegant and to have a chilledout vibe for everyone to have fun.”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is think about ways you can save. When looking for professionals, follow recommendations from other people in the industry and read reviews and look at photos. Meet with them to see if you gel and have the same idea about the day. A friend made our bonbonnieres and my mum made the bridesmaid bouquets. If you are wearing a dress, practice walking, dancing, sitting and eating. Plan for some alone time after the ceremony or after dinner. It is a big day and you will need a moment to breathe and chill out with your spouse. If possible, hire professionals for planning the run through, setting up and decorating. Most importantly, do what you want! People will have opinions but you need to do what you both like. We had a wedding trivia after dinner to personalise it more.”

“We had a minimoon on the Gold Coast and are planning a honeymoon in New Zealand.”

Marrying Millie was literally the best day of my life because we just all had a great time. No pressure, no stress. Just literally a celebration.

Congratulations MILLIE & SARAH 2.5.22 QLD

Millie Hill and Sarah Livori met through the female Melbourne motorbike scene. “Millie runs an all-female moto group – The Litas Melbourne. I had seen her group on socials and I wanted to know who this woman was!”

“I (Millie) had heard of Sarah through a mutual friend. Something intrigued me about her. Our worlds finally collided during Covid lockdowns. To this day I am grateful for this part of the pandemic and how it changed my life.”

“Millie describes the proposal in one word - fumbled! I (Sarah) proposed and Millie knew it was coming as we had been to the jeweller together to design the engagement ring. Nonetheless I was still so nervous to ask her. I’m not really sure why. I knew she would say ‘yes’ but I just wanted to make sure she felt special on the day, as if from the moment she woke up everything was tailored to her. I had planned a weekend of good food, relaxation and celebration for us. We woke up early on Saturday morning. Millie was drinking her coffee outside and long story short, when I joined her outside and it was the perfect time to ask her all that came out of my mouth was, ‘Do you wanna get married?’. From there the weekend continued including when I accidentally stabbed her in the neck with a chair and our planned dinner was cancelled due to a Covid outbreak at the restaurant. All was not lost as the following day we spent the entire day at Crown Spa in Melbourne, which was nice and without issue or injury.”

“We had an emotion-filled, intimate and most importantly FUN ceremony on a secluded beach. The weather was perfect and our vendors pulled our dream elopement together perfectly. The reception was held at the private poolside dining area at the Sea Temple in Palm Cove. The five of us enjoyed the most delicious food and cocktails and choreographed a dance to Robert Palmer’s ‘Addicted to Love’.”

“My (Sarah) wedding day highlight was seeing Millie walk down the aisle in her dress that she had been hiding for months. Also, feeling her vows and saying mine out loud and our little Robert Palmer number! Millie’s highlight was feeling the weight of my vows and knowing every word I promised was true. Also, the privacy of such a small elopement was just perfection.”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to do it exactly the way you both want. It’s your day! Have fun and showcase that love. Prepare for things not going to plan and have a backup. Also, don’t pass up the decision to hire a videographer – get the goddamn video, it’s worth it! Eloping to a different State felt overwhelming at first to be able to bring all our vendors together. Finding our planner Kylie, at Sea Temple was a life saver. She was our go to woman on the ground – find yourself a Kylie!”

“We spent our honeymoon in tropical Cairns.”

We wanted the wedding to be timeless and very relaxed. We wanted to be exactly ourselves and enjoy the day as opposed to being stressed out about it, worrying about other people’s expectations. We eloped with three of our closest friends from Melbourne to Palm Cove and had the best time.

Congratulations KATIE & LIZZIE 30.4.22 QLD

It was so important to both of us to have our families there to celebrate with us, both in person and in spirit.

Katie Beecheno and Elizabeth Hicks met online in 2015. “We spoke for approximately 3-4 months and finally decided to meet in person. Our first date was at the Coffee Club next to Lizzie’s workplace before Lizzie left on a Contiki Trip around Europe for a month, which felt like forever! When she returned, we met up again as I couldn’t stop thinking about her and I knew we had something special. She was quite unwell when she returned from the trip so I went to see her and ended up staying for a few days to help look after her. I wouldn’t say they were the most romantic first dates but it cemented our relationship and we both knew we had found our person. I mean, of course we were going to be together for the long haul - if you can get through the horror of being that sick on what would be considered the second date, you can get through anything! The strength of our relationship definitely made it easier to get through the normal relationship ups and downs but also being a same-sex couple, our relationship has had to face some difficult situations. In all honesty it just made us stronger together.”

“We went on a trip to Melbourne and I had planned an elaborate proposal which included a bike ride around the Royal Botanic Gardens and a picnic. I organised a secret photographer to catch the special moment. I had planted the engagement ring inside a Kinder Surprise Egg, which holds very sentimental value to Lizzie. Of course Lizzie nearly blew the surprise when she noticed ‘some random person taking our photos’ and was going to confront them (politely of course) to ask them to stop. I was extremely nervous as I wanted it to be perfect but on top of all of that, I had to try and reassure Lizzie that the photographer I had secretly hired was not in fact taking our photos. On this same trip, Lizzie had planned to propose to me at a concert for my favourite artist which is why we scheduled the trip in the first place. After a series of unfortunate events, we finally managed to get to the concert where Lizzie waited till the last song and proposed. Of course it was a yes!”

“Our wedding theme was Intimate, Romantic and Elegant. The whole day was amazing but we definitely have a few highlights. Our nearest and dearest were there which made the day feel that much more special. Having my dad walk me down the aisle and Lizzie’s adopted dad walk her down the aisle was incredibly emotional. My step dad and sisters also performed a ‘Welcome to Family’ (cultural welcoming ceremony) for Lizzie at the reception and this meant the absolute world to us both. It was all so special and we honestly could not have wished for anything more.”

“Our biggest piece of wedding planning advice would be to take in every minute of the day as the time goes so quickly... and have a good photographer to capture every moment. With all the nerves and excitement, time goes fast and being able to look back on every moment through photos is very special. Also, make sure you have a snack prior to the ceremony!”

“We haven’t planned a honeymoon yet as we are planning to start a family. The honeymoon may turn into a babymoon!”

Our photographer made us feel so comfortable and made sure we were able to do everything we wanted. There was a time schedule but she never once made us feel rushed. Even though there were some obstacles, she did everything possible to make sure we got some beautiful photos and memories that we will have forever.

Our wedding theme was ‘US’. We were our theme! Nature-loving, mis-match, laid back and of course Skye’s favourite colour, orange had to make an appearance.

Congratulations SKYE & SARA-STEVIE 4.3.22 NSW

Skye Valentine and Sara-Stevie Edmonds met on Tinder. “I proposed to Skye in the cutest little Airbnb cottage in Wentworth Falls. While Skye was outside relaxing in the hot tub, I was busy setting up rose petals, a ‘Will you marry me?’ hanging sign, a handwritten chalkboard and, of course, setting out THE RING! I called out to Skye for her help and when she came in, I stood there nervously looking back and forth between her and the bed while ‘Over My Head’ by The Fray was playing. Skye immediately said ‘Yes’, while hugging the nervous wreck that was me! We spent the night cuddling on the couch in front of the fireplace, eating the homemade spaghetti bolognaise I had cooked for us.”

The wedding date was originally 27 August 2021 as Sara was 27 and Skye was 21 when they met. However, due to Covid, they postponed the wedding to 04 March 2022.

“We wanted to make sure we supported as many small businesses through our wedding as possible as we knew they were struggling through the pandemic. So that was a real push for us to find local vendors, but also a struggle as we live five hours from our wedding location! Our favours were re-used baby food glass jars and handmade Australian bush green candles and labels. The morning before our wedding, the venue’s event coordinator Emma rang to update us about the rain and wet weather options. She kept us informed and we had to change our outdoor ceremony location to an inside one.”

“Our wedding day highlights were getting ready, our first look, seeing our beautiful kids all dolled up in their dresses, the food and of course, walking down the aisle to the most amazing human I have ever met!”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is don’t overthink it! I am a person who plans everything to a T. I had a timetable to the minute planned out. On the day none of it went to my exact plan, and that’s what made the day perfect! There’s so much happening on the day of the wedding - make sure you let loose a little and mingle at your own pace and spend time with your spouse once the reception settles. It’s good to ground each other, see how each other is really going and soak it all in as a couple.”

“We are yet to go on our honeymoon as we are waiting until 2023 when hopefully everything has settled and we can relax.”

“ We had our bridesmaids wear what they wanted, which made the most amazing photos and allowed them all to express themselves while standing by our sides on our special day.

Congratulations ALICE & ASH

One of us (Ash) really loves the beach and one of us (Alice) really loves bright colourful gardens, so we found a way to combine both. We loved the way the deck at Cronulla SLSC puts you right on the beach without actually being on the beach (no sand, phew!) and we had local flower wizards Aisle Of Eden create the most stunning, bold florals in a palette of orange, hot pink and red.

10.2.22 NSW

Alice Harrington and Ashley Rogers met the old fashioned way... on a dating app! “It was early in 2020, we saw each other’s profiles, and virtual sparks flew. We started chatting, went to dinner, and a week later… the whole city shut down, thanks to Covid. So we had to make a quick decision: bunker down together or put this new romance on ice for who knows how long? We chose to stick together and quickly fell into a life of puzzles, dog walks, Uber Eats and staying home – which we’re happily still doing now as married, new parents.”

“Christmas is logistically a very convenient time to become engaged. (You can tell all your family in one go when you see them at lunch!) It is also a very romantic time to become engaged. After being quite clear that a ring would not be ready in time for the holidays (absolute lies!), Ash pulled off an epic surprise by popping the question on Christmas Eve with lots of fairy lights and Violet Crumble Santas and the most beautiful custom-designed diamond ring tucked into a Christmas stocking. There were tears. It was perfect!”

“Our wedding day highlights were all of it! The first look was extra special for both of us. We aren’t naturals in front of the camera and were a bit nervous about that part of the day, but it ended up being a perfect hour together – just the two of us, getting all lovey and kissy in front of our brand new mates, Adrian (photographer/hype man) and Issac (videographer extraordinaire) and shockingly, not finding it awkward at all! The ceremony was a real highlight. Ben Ager is a one-of-a-kind legend who told our story in the most epic way and had all of our family and friends laughing and cheering and having the most fantastic time. A shout-out to dressmaker Anna Maurer, who was the surprise MVP of our wedding day. Our postponed date meant we needed a new dress (with room for an eight-month baby bump!) and a more summer-friendly vest (so Ash could lose her suit jacket immediately after the ceremony), so we recruited Anna to turn a very basic stretchy white dress into an elegant, perfectly-fitted wedding gown. She did it! In TWO WEEKS. The magician! And when Ash’s custom vest was still not fitting right days before the wedding, she answered our desperate SOS and dropped everything to fix that, too. All while being incredibly easy going and delightful. We cannot sing her praises enough.”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to choose excellent vendors then trust them to do their thing. They’ll do it well, that’s why you picked them! We gave our florist Nikki a brief of pink and red roses the week before Valentine’s Day and we were more than a little stressed that she wouldn’t be able to find what we wanted. But on the day they created something that was so unique and beautiful and better than either of us envisioned. Every single one of our guests (including uncles who you could bet have never paid attention to a single stem in their life) commented on how phenomenal they looked. Spend on what is important to you. For us, that was photo and video. We’re big on memories! We’ve already got obnoxiously-large prints of our favourite wedding photos on our walls and we’ve watched our wedding video approximately nine thousand times. It was one of our most favourite days and any opportunity to relive it makes our hearts tremendously happy.”

“We haven’t been on our honeymoon yet. We were originally supposed to get married in October 2021, but a ‘silly little pandemic’ kiboshed those plans and we had to postpone. By the time we got hitched, we were only two months away from meeting our baby girl, so the most travel we could squeeze in was a two-night staycation at the Four Seasons and a trip to the Bump Day Spa for a pregnancy-friendly massage. We’ll hopefully be able to enjoy a real honeymoon… in around 18 years, or so!”

The stormy weather that rolled in right on start time gave us the most spectacular double rainbow after the ceremony. So we can’t be too mad at Mother Nature for that!

The weather was beautiful. It wasn’t a hot summer’s day, which we were worried about. It had actually rained the morning before our ceremony. We were thankful that we got to have our ceremony in the beautiful gardens of Bulong Estate.

Congratulations TARRYN & ALISON 8.1.22 VIC

Tarryn Boydle met Alison Blencowe over 20 years ago. “We were both in the local CFA as volunteer firefighters. At the time I met Alison she was in a heterosexual relationship. We were best friends and I had this massive crush on her! We would spend time together on the weekends like ‘friends’ would do. My feelings were developing but I kept them from her. A few years passed and we got back in touch with one another. My feelings were still there for Alison. We started talking and spending a lot of time together again. Alison had broken up with her partner at the time and I was there for her all through her break up, being there for her when she needed it. A few months passed and she asked me to move in with her and her children. It was at this point that I knew I had to get the courage to finally tell her the truth about my feelings for her that I have had since I was 15. We were at home having a few drinks by the fire when I finally told her how I felt. Alison’s feelings had developed over time and she realised she felt complete with me. From that point on we have been together and are now happily married.”

“We had much discussion in the past about getting married and how we would do it. During a romantic night at home without our kids, we had a bubble bath by candlelight and were in conversation about our future together when Alison asked me to marry her. I was so happy, I cried and we cuddled. The love of my life proposed to me!”

“Our wedding theme was Native and Rustic. Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to consider a wedding planner to help you organise your big day and make it less stressful. Jenny at Yarra Valley Pop Up Weddings did an amazing job at fulfilling what we wanted out of our wedding day.”

“We spent our honeymoon locally as we didn’t want to travel too far. We stayed at a beautiful rainforest retreat in Narbethong, about 15 minutes from Marysville. It was very relaxing.”

“ We went dress shopping together and ended up choosing dresses that had the same underlay colour. Our dresses perfectly
each other! Congratulations BRITTANY & ELLEN 4.9.21 & 12.3.22 QLD

Ellen proposed to Brittany in August 2020. “We were meant to be going away for a long weekend in Burleigh after all of the Covid lockdowns. The day took a slight detour when Britt had to unexpectedly go to the dentist in the morning. I changed my plans from proposing at the accommodation to having my family set up balloons and flowers in our house while we were at the dentist. When we got home, I got down on one knee and asked the question. We still got to spend the rest of the weekend celebrating down at the beach. It was perfect.”

“Our wedding date was originally 4 September 2021 but was postponed until 12 March 2022 due to Covid restrictions. We were legally married on 4 September 2021 in a small ceremony with just our immediate family and some friends in Brittany’s parents’ backyard in Palm Beach. It was still important for us to celebrate the day and go ahead with all the plans we had originally put in place and we did that in Mermaid Beach in March 2022. We now have two dates that are special to us!”

“It was important to us that we spend the day together. We were able to get ready together and enjoy it all as a couple. We woke up really early, because we were so excited, and even enjoyed a coffee on the beach while the sun rose. I couldn’t have imagined doing the day without Ellen by my side through it all. It made it so much more amazing! It was also amazing that we were able to go ahead with the day without any of the restrictions, no masks and everyone was able to dance and enjoy the night together. It really does all go so quickly, like everyone said it would.”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is definitely don’t overthink or stress the small stuff too much and just do what will make you as a couple enjoy the day as much as possible. We picked a restaurant that we both love as our reception location and now it’s even more special and memorable for us.”

“As international travel had only just come back, we decided to enjoy some local stays in Palm Beach, Hervey Bay and 1770 for our honeymoon. We’re looking to do a bigger overseas trip to celebrate soon!”

We didn’t necessarily have a theme in mind. We both knew we wanted a wedding that was simple, elegant and fun. As we had our ceremony in a nursery (we also had our first date in a nursery), we were able to use all of the lush greenery as our backdrop and continued this through at our reception with a grassy champagne wall and eucalyptus leaves and candles on all of the tables.

“ We said our vows in front of our closest friends and family members, officiated by the fabulous Melissa Coe in the 17F (-8.33C) temperature. Congratulations KARLY & TRACY 22.2.22 OREGON, USA

Karly and Tracy asked for three things at the beginning of planning their wedding...

1. FURS and FLANNELS vibe

2. A ceremony in the SNOW - so guests could ‘freeze their butts off’

3. To just SHOW UP

Well, we delivered and so did the weather gods! After not having snowed for six weeks at Lake Creek Lodge, we all showed up to Lake Creek to settle in. On the morning of the welcome party and wedding, we woke up to a total of about 4-5 inches of snow! Prior to the ceremony, guests gathered at the lodge for a Hot Toddy, Hot Buttered Rum or Spiked Hot Cocoa Cocktail before being escorted to the ceremony overlooking the frozen pond.

Guests were given fur and flannel blankets, not only to keep warm at the wedding but to also take as a parting gift. After the ceremony, guests made their way back to the lodge, where they warmed up by the fire (both inside and out!) with specialty cocktails, beer and wines. A delicious Huckleberry Mule was served as an homage to Karly - it’s what she’s known for and it was delish!

After enjoying some delicious appertisers and cocktails, guests made their way into the dining hall, where the wooden tables were covered in red flannel linens and the chairs had a sheepskin fur hanging over them. Blum provided red roses and tulips with touches of greenery. Wooden chargers were set on the tables and oatmeal coloured napkins were tied with leather among wooden engraved place cards with each guest’s name. Dessert was served outside by the cauldron where guests enjoyed s’mores by the fire as we flipped the dining area into a dance floor. Event Team kept the dance floor packed all night playing the greatest tunes. It was such a fun night, even making waking up to belowfreezing temperatures all worth it!

“Our theme was Vintage Boho. The highlight of our day was having the most perfect weather and being able to share it with our families and closest friends.”

RACHEL & GENEVIEVE (2020)

“Our ceremony was held under a Jacaranda tree, so we knew we wanted purple to feature.”

“Our wedding advice is to make sure you stop and savour the day with your partner as it really does go fast! And don’t let a little rain dampen your day. In the end, most of your guests won’t even remember it rained!”

CAMERON & HAYDEN (2020)

“Because of Covid restrictions, we were unable to have a proper dance floor. Our first dance was part of the ceremony with our parents and wedding party holding the end of streamers that wrapped around us as we slow danced. “Our dream day was ‘go big or go home’. We had a black and white theme. Our guests wore black and white which looked very classy.”

“We were married exactly five years after we started dating. We saw our wedding as more of a casual dinner with our family and friends set in a beautiful and relaxed location, which is why Mavis Kitchen & Cabins was the perfect choice for us.”

ELIZA & JO (2021)

“We were married exactly one year after our engagement date. Our wedding inspiration was ‘as close to Canada as Covid would allow’. Jo wore a forest green velvet tuxedo as a nod to the deep green forests of Canada.”

HANNAH & HANNAH (2021)

“We wanted to go for a ‘Wedstival’ vibe where our guests could enjoy the days before and after the wedding and make a holiday out of it as the wedding was located at Worrowing - Jervis Bay (2.5hrs out of Sydney where the majority of our guests live).”
