September 8th, the sweet 16th

Finale Season of Project showed at NYFW. The show was a full house of anxious and excited faces filled the crowd. With Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia and Zach Posen as regular judges and Jessica Alba as guest judge, celebrating models of all sizes walking in each of the final collections. Margarita Alvarez’s debut collection “A Fish out of Water” was dedicated to her loved ones with influences from her native

CELEBRATING SWEET 16 Puerto Rico. The fabrics and details had the perfect vibe with bold colors and styles to fit every woman. Brandon Kee designed his “Layers of Love” collection, celebrating ethnicities showing a wide variety of fabrics and cuts. Pants with side slits and soft peachy colors that left the crowd cheering. Kentaro Kameyama was influenced by Japanese culture. Stunning pieces walked the runway that showcased edgy, beautiful and

fresh designs. Ayana Ife shared a multi-cultural collection with a luxurious feel to her designs. The incredible green evening gown left the audience stunned. Her designer collection made for an alluring show. After deliberation from the judges, the stand out winner was Kentaro Kameyama, who will no doubt be a celebrated designer for years to come. We can’t wait to see what’s next from his future collections.

Naeem Khan at NYFW By RebeccaMarie Backstage at Naeem Khan was a busy day, full of excitement. Models everywhere were getting made up by Maybelline and TRESemmĂŠ, while Louboutin iconic red-sole heels were displayed on the table complete with ribbons to wrap around the ankles, incredible Indonesian jewelery and beaded clutches. I just about died and went to heaven when I turned and saw the collection. Bursts of colors were everywhere and the fringe factor in his clothing details made me want to dine with the ladies wearing his gowns. Naeem Khan is never one to shy away from the bold and colorful, making his collections in fact, one-of-a-kind.

Standing out from the crowd and seeing what was about to walk down the runway alone was incredible. The modelsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; hair was adorned with lovely floral accents and up dos. The makeup was smokey eye and bold rich red lip. The bustle of the backstage was thrilling with celeb interviews and introductions, including Czech model and philanthropist Petra Nemcova. Naeem went over the gorgeous details of the gowns with me and shared about the beading, bold vibrancy of the fabrics and how they came together to create his masterpiece collection inspired by Russian dancer Anna Pavlova. The Russian prima ballerina

made her breakthrough performance in The Dying Swan in 1905, making her recognizable across Russia. The Spring 2018 ready-to-wear collection was ready to walk down the isle as I made my way to my seat with celebs like Paula Abdul, Kristin Cavallari and Pretty Little Liars, Shay Mitchell. Like the Russian ballet, each design debuted down the runway, an elegant and effortless flow of fabric on the models. The sway of the fringe and structure gave everyone in the audience something to look forward to during the evening full of gratification and what fashion should always be. Art.

aris Haute Couture Fashion Week is the event to attend when one is looking for chic, bold, innovative high end design. The extravaganza in July 2017 did not disappoint. Designers such as Guo Pei, Zuhair Murad, Elie Saab, and many more delighted and stunned us with their gorgeous new Fall/Winter 2017-18 collections, which could not have been any more perfect for Novelty Bride’s Romance Edition. Guo Pei herself summed up the debut of these masterpieces perfectly when she said, in reference to her own collection, “...it’s a tribute to the era of haute couture, when life was more beautiful and dresses were more beautiful as well.” ovelty Bride is thrilled to highlight some of our favorites from the runway. Many of the designers showcased rich velvets paired with soft sheer fabrics in their designs, as well as remarkably detailed embroidery. uo Pei pleased us with off-the-shoulder gowns in delightful colors and gorgeous side ruching that flattered every model. Her line seemed an homage to the most classic styles through different eras. We adored her ball gowns especially and her creative use of metallic fabrics. eorges Hobeika refreshed us with some higher hemlines that brushed gracefully just above the ankle. We loved his choice of colors: periwinkle, teal, plum, and red. Every gown was ornate with ethnic details in the bead work. His line also featured high splits, gorgeous hooded cloaks, and perfectly trailing trains. His final look was an absolutely stunning veiled bridal gown adorned in floral details.

ringing a fresh and more casual look to the runway was design team Ralph & Russo. Their Spring 2018 ready-to-wear collection featured a variety of looks that one could easily wear for an afternoon shopping, or possibly even to work. They shined with their use of metallics (love the rose gold!), pant suits, and multi-pieced sets. They also made sure to include pieces that could be worn to formal events. he black and white motif of Zuhair Murad’s line was nothing short of stunning. Every single creation was extravagant, formal, soft, feminine and beautifully tailored to each model’s form. His accents of ostrich feathers and sparkly embroidery added to sheer fabrics were the perfect finishing touch, and his elegant powder blue gowns were wonderfully well done. dding some variety to the week was Georges Chakra with a whimsical line including shortened gowns and ornate thigh high boots. He dazzled us with black, teal, blue, purple, and wine colored velvets, and even dared to reminisce with polka dots. y particular favorite line from the week came from designer Elie Saab. Nothing says romance like an homage to the Medieval/ Renaissance Era. Every single gown that came down the runway was packed with feminine power. His use of luxurious velvets, perfectly paired with sheer fabrics and gold embroidery achieved a level of female empowerment to make Wonder Woman herself weep with pride. Feminine, delicate, soft, yet bold and confident is the only way to describe this magnificent line.

WINTER SKINCARE TIPS BY MAKEUP ARTIST KRYSTAL B. ARMSTRONG

The winter months are notorious for giving us drier skin, and this winter didn’t disappoint (well, it kinda did because my face and scalp are paying for it). When my skin goes haywire, I turn to some favorites from my line, Andrelle’s Natural Skin Care, to give my skin just what it needs. Here are my goto items, along with some tips. Deep Pore Cleanser – The winter months bring cold, dry air and some serious wind. This can cause debris to enter our pores and dry out our skin. Using an all-natural cleanser, like the Simply Sebaceous Cleanser with lukewarm water will allow you to achieve a squeaky clean feeling without stripping your skin of necessary oils. Exfoliation is major – When the skin is extra dry, exfoliation is key but it has to be mixed with the right kind of hydration. The Creamy Coffee + Sugar Scrub is a staple for the winter months. This scrub has a butter base so it leaves a thin layer of butter that after you rinse melts into the

skin leaving it soft, smooth and hydrated.

Deep Romance – The Dark Lip By Stephanie Klasse I have done makeup for hundreds of weddings over nearly two decades of being a professional makeup artist. One trend I see are brides going for is a soft lip. Pale pinks, soft plumbs and the nude glossy lip seem to rule the bridal beauty requests. I understand why. First, it is a classic look that won’t be dated by trend. Second, a softer and more muted lip requires less maintenance throughout the long wedding day. Third, a dark lip is a look a lot of women aren’t used to wearing, and the wedding day isn’t the time or place to try and pull this off is a bride isn’t used to bold color. But what about the bride who loves a deep, romantic, dark lip? It is a gorgeous and fashionably relevant look for a fall or winter bride. That was me, and I’ve got you covered.

The third step is choosing a color. I combed the aisles of Sephora with my intern, and I am pretty sure we tried every dark lip option there was out there. What is really surprising are the lack of dark shade options or undertone choices from many brands. The deep berry and plumbs were especially hard to find, and they are traditionally the most flattering type of dark lip. The deep brick shades and red-browns can be hard to pull off for many women and are less universally flattering. Tom Ford was the winner for the most color and texture choices. There is nothing like Tom Ford lipstick. Some of my favorites were the Lip Slick in Bitten Berry and Hibiscus Kiss, the Ultra Rich Lip Color in Purple Noon, and the Patent Finish Lip Color in Bruised Plum.

The first step to rocking the deep lip is all about proper lip preparation. Exfoliation is a must. I love the Max and Madeline Vanilla Lip Scrub. It uses Vitamin E and antioxidant-packed sunflower seed oil and raw cane sugar to gently buff, hydrate and heal lips. Another great product is the Lip Scrub by Sarah Happ uses grapeseed oil, jojoba, macadamia and sweet almond oil along with ground sugar crystals to exfoliate and hydrate. This scrub comes in a range of yummy flavors. Simply massage a scrub into the lips while you are washing your face for perfectly smooth lips.

BITE Beauty had many options, and I love the High Pigment Pencil crayons that give superb control. They are creamy and pigmented with a slight shine. Some are more sheer and can read more red than plumb. Tannin and Amarone are also fantastic shades.

The next step is to hydrate. Lucas PaPaw Ointment is one of my favorites. This 100-year-old formula is a makeup kit staple of mine. It uses PaPaw extract to deeply heal and hydrate the lips (and can be used all over the body). It is actually antimicrobial and antibacterial but leaves a beautiful finish on the lips. Another go-to hydrating product of mine is the Smith’s Rosebud Salve. This is another skin multitasker and lip-healer that should have a home in any makeup bag. However, make sure you let it all soak in or blot down with a tissue before color is applied.

For Dark Lips that really last, Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick is a constant go-to. They are very matte and the shade range is incredible. Exorcism is super deep but tends to dry down more brownish.

MILK is a newer brand that has me very excited. The shade range is small but the options for dark lips are good. The Lip Vinyl in Queen is a deep cranberry with a high shine. The Lip Color in New Whip, Drip Out and Grrl range from a berry to a muted deep plumb that would look wonderful on most women.

Another favorite line is the LimeLight by Alcone Enduring Lip Colors. Sugar Plum and Devil’s Food are two of my favorites and I love to layer them under a traditional lipstick to give wear and comfort. The Onyx Collection from LimeLight is must, but they are limited edition and my favorite, Black Cherry is sold out!! (Fingers crossed it will be added to the regular

line, because I can’t live without it). Get the shade Black Tie while you still can.

and won’t budge. The Graftobian dual-finish powder can be used to set the edges and you are finished!!

No matter the shade, application and maintenance is key in pulling off the perfect dark lip. I prefer to use a lip brush to apply the products. The London Brush company lip brushes are my all time favorite. I start in the center and draw the cupid’s bow and apply the product liberally. You might not want to follow your exact lip shape too. Above all else, go for symmetry. I love using a liquid lipstick as a base and top it with a traditional lipstick.

I am not afraid to kiss off my dark lips. It’s part of the fun. I prefer a more hydrating texture and maintaining over something uber-longwearing that can feel dry and crack over time.

I perfect the shape with a lip liner like the Buxom Plumpliner or the LimeLight by Alcone lip liners. They have the fantastic dark color options. I finish with a waterproof concealer to clean up the edges and keep the color from bleeding. Kryolan Dermacolor is a must for this step. It is pigmented enough to cover tattoos

The dark lip is a more rare bridal, but it is perfect for the autumn/winter wedding look, it is very romantic and leaves a lasting impression. Play with colors and brands to find what is best suited as far as shade, undertone, texture and finish. Lipwear is personal and specific. Try different options out ahead of time and see how you feel and how they wear. Finally, I always tell brides to purchase your own lip color for touch ups but also as a bridal keepsake. Don’t be afraid to go deep and dark on your winter wedding day.

An Interview with Colin Cowie By Amy Rivers

When it comes to wedding planning, Colin Cowie is a master at making bridal dreams a reality. His reputation as a lifestyle guru, television personality, and event planner have made Cowie the go-to for celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Tom Cruise, Jennifer Lopez, Oprah Winfrey and Kim Kardashian. With global tastes cultivated through extensive travel, and a keen eye for detail, Cowie is determined to give every bride the wedding of her dreams. In a recent interview, Colin Cowie gave us some insight into his wedding planning methods and what he hopes to achieve for the couples he works with.

Novelty Bride: What do you love about wedding planning?

NB: When you work with a bride, what do you hope to achieve for them?

Colin Cowie: One of my favorite things about planning a wedding is having the knowledge that I’m helping to create the most important and memorable day of the couples’ lives. I take pride in knowing that they will forever look back on the memories of the event, and that motivates me to make each and every wedding my best one yet. I’m always honored that they’ve entrusted me with such an important responsibility and take every measure to create a wedding experience that is nothing short of fabulous.

CC: When it comes to the bride, I hope to make her feel that her and her grooms’ DNA has been embedded in the event; that every single detail was decided taking her dream into consideration. We are storytellers. When all is said and done, I want them to feel that their special day was everything they had ever dreamt of, and then some. NB: What are some of your favorite wedding experiences?

CC: My favorite part of every wedding is during the dinner, when the wine has taken its effect, the candles are burned half way down and everyone has a smile wrapped two and a half times around their face! NB: What takes a wedding from ordinary to extraordinary? CC: When I take on an event, I take every small detail into consideration: the season, the time of day, the location — everything. Sprinkle onto that the five senses; what you smell, touch, taste, see and hear. What takes a wedding from ordinary to extraordinary is making it more than just a wedding. This goes for the couple and the guests. I aim to create a memorable and magical experience that tells the couples’ story and represents their unique DNA; a series of WOW moments that create a lasting impression. NB: What are the touches and elements that say “luxury” to you? To the bride? To the wedding guests? CC: Let’s start by defining luxury. The obvious appears to be champagne,

stunning and abundant flowers, choice of a main course, etc. But I think that luxury is the experience and how we make you feel. For me luxury is starting on time and not keeping the guests waiting. Making sure the music is not too loud when you are dining. Enjoying well-prepared food that is served elegantly and timely. Enjoying wine that is paired well with the food. A great band or DJ who knows how to build energy, and a team of producers who are constantly looking for opportunity to make it better, i.e. dimming the lights, making sure the volume is right, ensuring the drinks are flowing, and keeping the party going.

CC: The wedding is totally uniquely and categorically all about the bride and groom and the story they want to tell. We listen and look, and then come back with an idea that tells their story NB: What is the most important piece of advice you could give any bride in planning her wedding?

CC: There are always the basics, pre-ceremony, during the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, dancing, wedding cake, speeches, nightclub are the obvious. What’s important is how you bring them alive.

CC: Do NOT stress about the little things! There are a dozen people around you who are going to handle them for you. Focus on the fun and understand that this day is all about YOU. Spend time realizing that after this, you get to spend the rest of your life with the person you love. I have done dozens of weddings where something seemingly catastrophic happens — the weather shifts unexpectedly, a performer can’t make it — never once has it caused the wedding to go downhill. With everyone there to celebrate such a momentous occasion and my capable team’s experience, any “catastrophic” mishap can be managed.

Romancing the Stone: Tips for making your wedding day romantic By Ruth Shilling, Managing Editor

f you’re anything like me, you started planning your wedding day long before meeting your fiancé. We had a relatively short engagement, so it meant planning and being efficient with decisions and bookings. With a short timeline, I found myself at times with a short fuse, allowing the stress of the situation to affect my reactions to those in my wedding party, family or even my beloved.

ome people might refer to this as the bride turning into a bridezilla. It

took me a while to admit I had gone there. However, I do remember moments when details weren’t working like I had planned. My knee jerk reaction was to freak out. I know I’m not the only one. Being more than a decade out from my wedding, I find it happens with many brides. It’s easy to do, especially when expectations are engrained from such a young age.

very detail has to be perfect for the ideal wedding, right? On my wedding day, I found the opposite to be true. While we didn’t have any major mishaps, there were some oversights that meant details were overlooked or later than I had planned them. Decorations for the reception weren’t done by who I had planned on. We didn’t have programs for guests (I may be dating myself, but yes, that was an expectation to have). The photos with family and

the wedding party took much longer than I had realized they would. Although I had a few inconvenient moments, I have incredibly fond memories of the celebration that took place that fall afternoon in 2000.

While the bride typically is the one who plans her own wedding, being the only one who knows the vision will mean they are the fixer, not the enjoyer. In addition, delegate to the right

people. The decorating didn’t happen on time at my wedding because I delegated the task to someone who was very creative and had an eye for beauty, but was not known for being on time. This meant, I had to figure out who would fill that role for the belated decorator from the confines of my bridal quarters while I should have been enjoying getting pampered and spending time with my ladies. This didn’t help me to enjoy the time before the wedding.

e in the moment and practice gratitude. These two don’t stray too far from one another usually. Your wedding is an extraordinary event by its very nature. It lends itself to happiness if one is paying attention. Popular author, Brene Brown states, “I don’t

have to chase extraordinary moments to find happiness – it’s right in front of me if I’m paying attention and practicing gratitude.” This is a practice, especially when so many emotions are tied into the planning of this event. Practice makes perfect. It may take some time, but start now, even if your wedding is far off. By the time your wedding rolls around, hopefully you’ll be in the moment and thankful for the little moments that comes your way, allowing you to take part in the romance. (Continued on next page)

had to make a decision with each unplanned surprise and, at the same time, choose to enjoy the moment. My advice is to plan and delegate, but when it comes down to the event, enjoy the people youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re with no matter what happens. Choose to be in the moment and find what you are grateful for rather than looking for flaws in the vision from your childhood. The wedding day is meant to be full of romance and beauty for the couple â&#x20AC;&#x201C; a day to celebrate with loved ones and friends.

On the 15th of June 2017, Chinese Actress Yang Zishan and Taiwanese actor Matt Wu held a gorgeous ceremony to celebrate their marriage. The couple had actually married in an intimate ceremony two years prior but were unable to hold an event with their families and close friends until recently, due to their busy work schedules. The couple met while filming a romantic drama, short film in 2011 and since then, both Yang and Matt have won awards for their work in the film industry. As with many Chinese weddings, the day began with a morning ceremony which holds much historical and cultural significance. For this part of the day, the couple wore outfits in the traditional

style. The bride was wearing an elegantly, simple pink dress adorned with a single gold necklace. Her loose hairstyle and natural makeup contributed to the soft romantic feel of the day. This romanticism was carried on into the evening with the exquisite wedding gown by Tony Ward. The A-line gown featured long sleeves and a flowing train. The lace was incorporated floral and lattice work patterns, which created the most beautiful contrast between geometric and organic. We wish the couple only the best in their future together.
