There is also massive ravaging of land and enormous pollution of water as corporations exhaust old reserves while blocking the development of new energy technologies. Meet Artists In Their Studios
By Lisa Evans Art lovers and collectors will have one very good reason to celebrate the month of February on Maui – actually, make that over one hundred reasons. For the second year in a row, former Maui resident and gallery owner Carolyn Quan is returning to the island to oversee an event known as Maui Open Studios. With over 100 artists and an almost equal number of venues, Maui artists will be opening their studio doors and creative spaces to showcase their work, share their stories and sell their art. Maui Open Studios is a unique event, in part, because of its traveling nature. Each weekend the event features artists from a different island location, giving locals and visitors alike a month-long opportunity to tour various venues in one general area. No matter your favorite art form, there will be something for everyone as painters, glass blowers, furniture makers, sculptors, jewelry designers, and more are ready to welcome guests into the places where they produce and present their art. When asked what’s different about this year’s event compared to last year’s, creator and producer Quan said, “Additional activities have been added to week four in Hana, as well as satellite exhibitions happening in Ma’alaea.â€? She was also pleased to say that, “We’re not competing with the Super Bowl this year.â€? Another signiďŹ cant change this year is that the opening celebration will have its very own weekend (Saturday, February 4) instead of being held at the same time as studios’ openings. nection. I found this out in a very personal and terrifying way about six months ago. I was driving my 5-year-old grandson to the dentist, when suddenly my chest felt like a ton of bricks was crushing it. My breathing became shallow and I broke out into a profuse sweat. I thought, “Oh no, I’m going to die, I must be having a heart attack!â€? I ashed to a radio show where I had interviewed a number of people in their 50s who had been stricken with heart attacks quite unexpectedly. Each of them had experienced a loss of some kind in the preceding year, and were feeling grief in their hearts. My mind then raced to the next scenario where I imagined I would be passed out and the car would crash with my grandson in it. Then a voice from deeper in my being said, “OK, now get a grip. You are not going to die like this. You teach meditation and you know how to relax. You can release this death-grip on your body.â€? I then forced a deep breath down into my lungs and willed my heart to slow and relax. Ever so gently the vice on my chest released and the bricks lifted. I then focused on getting us to the dentist. I arrived at the dentist visibly shaken and still

pondering this strange event. Had I really just had a brush with death, or was my body indicating something deeper to understand? In the ensuing months, I have come to realize that I felt incredibly guilty about my grandson’s injury, as a few front teeth had gotten knocked out while in my care at a waterfall. While on a hike with me, he slipped on a rock and went down very hard. The screams were loud and the blood profuse. The trip to the dentist a week later reignited the trauma of the accident and, mixed with my guilt at the pain he endured, caused my heart to hurt deeply. You see, I had not forgiven myself for not being able to keep him safe and prevent the accident. Self -love is an important ingredient in wellbeing and I did not love myself for having brought him to a waterfall on a wet day. Though I logically knew there was no way I could have caught him before he slipped, emotionally I still felt responsible and bad, like a failure as a grandparent. Whenever we judge ourselves as bad, wrong, or no-good, we proclaim our brokenness rather than our wholeness. Self-hate is the death of self-love. As I forgave myself for not preventing Makai’s accident, I entered once again into the domain of love. My body relaxed and I regained my enthusiasm for life. I remembered that life is full of ups and downs and that if I can perceive life through the eyes of unconditional love, I will see perfection. My heart returned to love. Magnesium Assists Heart Function
By Judy Phillips Although magnesium has numerous uses in the human body, it also has an important role in the health of the heart. It has been referred to as “nature’s calcium channel-blockerâ€? because of its propensity to block the entry of calcium into vascular smooth-muscle cells and heart muscle cells. As a result, magnesium supplementation can assist in reducing vascular resistance, lower blood pressure, and lead to more efďŹ cient heart function. Just as it helps nerves perform throughout the body, magnesium is critical for managing the activity of the heart muscle and the nerves that initiate the heartbeat. If you are deďŹ cient in magnesium, you are more liable to be susceptible to arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats) and heart palpitations. Magnesium can also prevent coronary arteries from experiencing spasms, which is what generates the intense chest pain known as angina. In many cases, a deďŹ ciency in magnesium is the most frequent cause of these arterial spasms. When you relax the muscles that regulate blood vessels and permit blood to flow more freely, magnesium can play a part in diminishing elevated blood pressure, which is an important aspect in reducing the risk for heart attack and stroke. The effect of magnesium on high blood pressure is additionally enhanced by equalizing the levels of potassium and sodium in the blood. In addition, because magnesium may assist in lowering blood pressure and offset the risk of arrhythmia (two problems in people with congestive heart failure), a weakened heart can proďŹ t from utilizing more of this important mineral. Magnesium chloride, which is the common form of magnesium and is secured from sea water, is a very exceptional and potent form of magnesium. It is almost immediately assimilated by the body, through the skin, directly to the cellular level. Although magnesium chloride is the most effective form, when taken orally it is minimally effective in delivering the mineral to the cellular level where it can be utilized by the body to address all the areas of deďŹ ciency. When directly applied to the skin, it reaches the cellular level, bypassing the frequent intestinal symptoms like diarrhea and stomach cramps, which are related to oral use. There are several ways to use magnesium chloride. The quickest and most convenient way to transmit magnesium chloride into the cells and tissues is by using magnesium oil. You simply spray it on your skin, leave it on for at least 20 minutes, and you can wash it off if you wish. There is also the hydrotherapy protocol, where you can utilize magnesium akes in your tub. I Have A Gift To Give
By Amrita Grace I’ve heard bits and pieces about how we can create a new economy, and I finally got it all the way down to my toes: it’s an internal shift rather than a change to the external system. As we make inner changes, the outer reality must follow suit. Once I got this, it was followed by a tremendous inspiration: I have a gift to give, and I’m going to give it away for free! This feels like a leap into a new personal paradigm that engenders total trust that I will be supported economically. I have always held a standard of “exchange of value,” knowing my own value and charging for it accordingly, as well as feeling the pressure to make a living. What I now understand is that the exchange does not have to be a direct one-on-one exchange – I can give away as I feel inspired and receive from the abundant universe. As I embrace this concept of showing up in my life with what I have to offer others, I notice how different it feels from showing up with what I need to pay the bills. I feel free, unencumbered, light, happy, excited, and open-hearted. From this place, I have decided to give away my book, Reclaiming Aphrodite-The Journey to Sexual Wholeness. I am donating copies to shelters, recovery programs, jails, and libraries as well as making the download available to anyone who wants it. Exploring Mysticism’s Essence
By Hank Wesselman Ph.D. When my own mystical unfolding began 30 years ago, my scientific curiosity turned toward the cognitive sciences where I realized that we humans are in the process of discovering and mastering the full spectrum of our uniquely human consciousness. No matter what our spiritual practices may be, we are learning to balance and harmonize our brain and body functions, discovering that our individual consciousness is linked to a greater collective consciousness – one that is nested within a still greater collective. This phenomenon continues to expand outward as well as inward until we reach an obvious conclusion – we are connected to everything, everywhere. Through the mystical training workshops that I have facilitated since the early 1990s, I became aware that there is a major spiritual reawakening going on within a growing and important sector of the population, one that is occurring among welleducated people who are in social, professional, and political positions from which it is possible to influence the larger societies’ ideas and trends. These folks hold a set of beliefs that differ from those of the general public – beliefs that often reflect the influence of non-Western traditions. Shamanism, or more specifically neo-shamanism, is a major thrust of this movement, probably because of the ease with which this ancestral mystical method can be learned and practiced. Within the modern mystical movement, everyone is a spiritual seeker interested in reaching a state of transcendence. Everyone wants to deal directly with spiritual teachers and helpers to bring about healing and problem-solving for themselves, members of their networks, society and the world. The modern mystic is involved in an intensive, personal, spiritual quest and virtually all profess connection with some form of a supernatural god-like being or consciousness. Straight From The Heart

When we talk about the heart, we are not just talking about a muscle that pumps blood through the circulatory system – it’s the part of us that contains and expresses all of our emotions and identifies most with the emotion of love. Emotions are many times more powerful than logic. Our intention comes from the heart and is to know who and what we are, what we have to offer to the world, and to fully express ourselves and to set clear intentions for ourselves and remove any conflicting intentions that we currently have. Your reality is created by your present intention – if you want to change it, change your intention. Clear intentions allow you to move towards your goals. Once you clearly know your intention in your heart, you can take that knowledge to create your purpose – you can align your heart and mind. Once the heart and mind are aligned, action with the body can take place, letting go of all outcome. Intention is like planting seeds in the garden, nurturing them and allowing them to grow in their own time. Taking the time throughout the day to check in with the heart and how you are feeling allows you to be fully self-expressed in your work and to create meaning for you and to those you serve. If something doesn’t feel good, it is up to you to communicate a clear intention from the heart to your spouse, lover, kids, boss, co-workers, friends, and especially to yourself. My vision for you is that your intention and your heart’s purpose will become clear in both your business and your personal life, and that you live your heart’s purpose, loving everything that you do... straight from the heart.

The Heart Of Love

I heard a ping, and peeked down to see a zillion tiny mercury spheres lying next to the bed. Before I could even formulate a plan to clean up the mess, my beau had checked to make sure I was all right, and was corralling the beads into a growing ball of mercury. No hesitation, no eye roll, no comment, he just took care of it for me. As I watched his labor of love, I was reminded in that moment that while verbal expressions of love are beautiful to hear, it is the selfless acts of love that speak the loudest. These unspoken statements are everywhere: the husband unconsciously stroking his wife’s hair, the mother kissing her son’s scraped knee, the woman suiting up to walk her dog in the middle of a snowstorm, the parent standing in line for hours to score surprise concert tickets for his teenager – these are the wordless actions that shout, “ I love you.” If you ever wonder about someone’s true feelings for you, or how you feel towards them, watch their actions or take note of your own. When we love another deeply, sweet gestures flow effortlessly. When we are loved, the signs surround us. Talk is very inexpensive – we can state or claim anything. Deeds are a much more accurate litmus test of true love. Shower those you adore with tangible expressions of your heart. Cherish the loving tributes you receive from others, for they are some of the sweetest gifts of all, they are the heart of love. Naked To Yourself By Gangaji

In our long history of storytelling, there have been great beings with awe-inspiring stories that reveal the victory of self-discovery. What inspires us about these great people is that somehow their lives turned toward, and then reected, the sublime discovery of everlasting truth. In my latest book, Hidden Treasure: Uncovering the Truth in Your Life Story (Tarcher Penguin, 2011), I invite you to let your story contribute to the universal revelation of self-discovery, expressed uniquely as you. This invitation is not as outrageous as it may appear. Even the greatest saints had much that was ordinary in their lives. They had pain and failure; they knew self-doubt and setbacks. We have skillfully and unconsciously learned to cover our perceived aws with layer upon layer of storytelling. Our internal images and narratives are only made of pictures and thoughts, but they wield mighty power. We may know them to be at least in part untrue, but most likely we fear that what is covered needs to be covered We have become practiced at maintaining the threads of our overlapping story lines, and we
work to cover the unraveling holes that life persistently reveals. This is steady work, requiring our attention day and night. In an instant, we can stop. When we are exhausted with our labor of covering what we fear we are, we can stop covering. When we are curious about what is unchanging in the midst of constant change, we can stop giving all our attention to what changes. When we are called to a life beyond our imagination, beyond our ability to construct, we can stop constructing. It is at this point that we discover that any thought of ourselves is only a thread that contributes to the weaving of a story, and that thread can be released. In this release, we ďŹ nd the strength to view ourselves without covering. Our attention can return to the silent, aware core. Silent, conscious awareness is naturally naked of phenomena and is nakedly present in the core of all phenomena. By inquiring into your life story, you can recognize the layers of ephemeral distraction that keep your attention busy with entanglements. When you recognize this, you can reclaim your attention. You can allow the distractions to fall away, or you can see through the distractions all the way home, to the silent core. Love Is A Choice By Maribeth Theisen How does it feel to be a heart? For all I know is Love, And I ďŹ nd my heart InďŹ nite And Everywhere! - HaďŹ z Love is a choice. People say, “I’m defensive, or compulsive, or reactive or (ďŹ ll in the blank) because I was hurt, wounded, betrayed or (ďŹ ll in the blank). While it can be painful when situations and people are negative or abusive, it is our choice as to how we respond. Will I become angry and get even? Will I stay sad and become a victim? Or, will I keep my heart open and keep loving? It is said that there are only two primary emotions: love and fear. If you feel angry or hurt or doubtful, it all boils down to fear. If you recognize your own inner beauty, or the innocent child that is acting out behind someone else’s unseemly actions, you are perceiving from love. Love unites; fear separates. Love feels good; it makes us joyful, connected, generous, forgiving and strong. Fear feels terrible; it makes us feel weak, less-than, lonely, and despondent. Which would you rather feel? Whenever you experience a situation or emotion that is unpleasant, ask yourself these questions: 1. What am I thinking about this person/situation? 2. What emotions am I experiencing as a result? 3. How much of my time am I sacriďŹ cing to keep thinking/feeling this? 4. What do I gain from thinking/feeling this way (including positives and negatives)? 5. Is there any way I have ever behaved similarly? (We have all behaved insensitively, even though we’ve been doing our best.) 6. If I were loving and totally unaffected by this, how would I be thinking/feeling/behaving? Visualize yourself feeling loving, and notice what it is like to feel that way. Make the experience deep and strong. The more you transform your fears into love, the easier it will become; then you can make the choice to live in that joy and connectedness from moment to moment. By Nicole Rose A disgruntled husband complained to his friend about his unhappy, uncompromising wife. The husband, fed up, was considering divorce. His friend, however, didn’t support his idea of divorce, and instead suggested that the husband “chooseâ€? to love his wife. “Love her?â€? replied the husband. “What on earth do you mean? We hardly speak...â€? “I mean love her,â€? countered his friend. “Really, really love her. Make her needs more important than your own. What’s her favorite movie, favorite ower or favorite food? Put a smile on her face! Try it and see what happens.â€? The husband did as his friend suggested, and to his delight, discovered that he was married to a very beautiful and caring woman. Now I realize that not all unhappy relationships are resolved this easily, however, in a society where so many marriages end in divorce and many relationships barely “get past goâ€? before they fall apart, this little fable yields a powerful message regarding the deeper ways of love and relationship. Channel For Masters Makes Return Visit

Congratulations on noticing all the amazing coincidences and realizing that they mean something! You understand the signiďŹ cance of synchronicities – even when you’re not immediately sure of their meaning ‌ sometimes we don’t know for months or even years. Meaningful coincidences are connections in the dimension of time, which is the basis for astrology and divination systems. For instance, when we view a person’s birth chart wheel, we are looking at a 360-degree astronomical snapshot of the sky at a moment in time from the point of view of a place on earth – i.e., your birth time and town. This is based on Carl Jung’s principle that everything that happens together is related to everything else in that situation. When using divination systems like the I Ching, the time is now and its archetypes stimulate your intuitive sense around whatever situation or dilemma you are focusing on (I am now writing a book Great Decisions, Perfect Timing, how to live a ‘synchronistic’ lifestyle). When synchronicities are popping it’s best to take notice. This guy is reecting or symbolizing something for you. Even if he’s not available, he can still be good for you—if whatever you are projecting onto him, or whatever he symbolizes for you, resonates an archetype that infuses your consciousness. For instance, if he symbolizes a warm supportiveness, it could be about your desire for protection,

either in the form of receiving it from someone else or learning to give it to yourself. The point is that, whatever the meaning is, it’s coming from the imaginal, creative realm where synchronicity operates. It’s not really about him as a person, it’s about you! Add some “applied synchronicityâ€? in the form of an I Ching reading to awaken your intuitive sense in order to be able to better decipher the meaning. Synchronicity describes how an authentic I Ching or Tarot reading reects what you are focused on when you cast the coins or shuffle the cards. One bonus of a divination experience is that you also get insight and advice – a good sense of whether you should make a move, stay still and do nothing for a while, or take a strategic retreat from whatever changes you are considering. It’s wonderful that you are freely receiving signals from your collective unconscious. They happen all the time, but our intuition is usually blocked or distracted. This is an opportunity to learn something important, or get to know someone who could play a role in your life, even if indirectly. This guy symbolizes something signiďŹ cant to your psyche. By Karen Frangos, N.D. In some people, blood cholesterol builds up as plaques that line the inner arterial walls - a disease called atherosclerosis. The customary medical advice is to limit dietary cholesterol (from certain animal fats), therefore reducing the risk of atherosclerosis. This is, however, only partly true, and does not address the cause of the problem, which is inammation within the bloodstream that damages blood vessels. Blood cholesterol actually helps by patching the damaged vessel from the inside like ďŹ xing a at tire. Cholesterol gets the bad reputation as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, but it’s actually inammation that starts the trouble! Fortunately, like cholesterol, systemic inammation can be measured in the blood. Elevated serum levels of Creactive protein can be detected in those with chronic infections or inammation. Once an infection is ruled out or treated by a doctor, steps can be taken to diminish the CRP levels and, therefore, the risk of heart attack or stroke. The most effective and safest way to reduce inammation is to eat an anti-inammatory diet. This would include daily intake of essential fats from foods like salmon, tuna, walnuts and olive oil. Couple this with the avoidance of hydrogenated oils (also known as “trans fatsâ€? found in most margarine and many processed foods) and fried foods, then your body can produce its own anti-inammatory and anti-atherogenic (heart protective) chemicals. As an aside, this can also replace the need for anti-inammatory medication in those with pain. This process of internal anti-inammatory chemical production also requires protein, magnesium, zinc, and vitamin C, and little to no sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and stress. Eliminating Elusive Parasites
By Jackie and Dave Reed Intestinal parasites are dangerous to our health and can cause disease and even death. They are elusive, widespread and often poorly understood. In Ayurveda they are known as krumi. We are all susceptible to exposure. Children pass the parasites around in school. Pets are another high-risk source. Drinking or bathing in contaminated water or eating sushi, salads and raw foods increase our risk. Certain parasites such as giardia and amoeba can remain in the body for years in a dormant cyst form until a stressor causes an activation. Candida is a common companion of intestinal parasites. Unfortunately a diagnosis of parasitic disease may be elusive. The patient may experience only vague symptoms. Their complaints may range from nail fungus, intestinal bloating and gas, diarrhea, constipation or both, fatigue, poor concentration or motivation. Less obvious symptoms include eczema, adult acne and arthritic pain. An Ayurvedic consultation may reveal that the patient’s pulse indicates a krumi overgrowth. Pancha Karma (Ayurveda cleanse) is the most powerful tool Ayurveda employs to eradicate the parasites. Vidanga is the best herbal choice for the cleanse but should be used carefully. Sometimes the person will experience digestive upset, low-grade fever, u-like symptoms, body and joint pain, and fatigue. This may be a typical die-off reaction caused by the dead parasites. The worst die-off reactions occur with a massive yeast overgrowth, as yeasts are more numerous than the parasites, being an overgrowth rather than an infection. Prevention is always the best cure. Eliminate harmful foods and sugar. When treating parasites make sure you are not re-infecting yourself. Treat your whole family including pets. By Eliza Bassett As we move further into the shift between the old paradigm and into the one ‘we have been waiting for,’ it is important to pay attention to the heart. The physical and spiritual hearts are being asked to release old patterns, bonds, cords and ancestral inherited diseases. Perhaps you’ve noticed that during the past 6 months situations have transpired that remind you of a prior event that wounded your heart. Maybe a recent incident allows you to remember something from childhood, a schoolroom conict, which you had totally forgotten. Pay attention to these small and subtle messages, as they represent old wounds that can lead to an energy pattern that echoes through your body. The small ones can be addressed through ho’oponopono prayers. This time around, with our increased awareness along with spiritual and emotional tools, the pain can diminish and we can discern the lesson from the wounding and truly release the root cause of the re-injury. By Debbie Dehm Many people living on Maui have big hearts and go out of their way to help others. Some would say that this is the spirit of Aloha and I agree that people in Hawaii are raised to be Aloha. I have learned so much about how far a little more politeness, kindness and generosity of spirit can help someone. But what happens when you give so much of yourself that you are not taking care of you? Mother Teresa said that you must keep oil in your own lamp to be a light for the world. In this time of great changes in our world, many of us call ourselves light workers. Well, to be a light you need to keep your lamp lit. To me this means taking care of ourselves ďŹ rst - loving ourselves, being kind to ourselves, taking care of our bodies with proper rest, food and exercise. Not saying “yesâ€? to everything and everyone when we just want to take a nap. We need to help others, but we are not that useful if we are worn out and possibly resentful. Women are especially prone to giving too much and not taking care of themselves. I am a massage therapist and see women all the time who do this. Getting a massage is one step they take towards self care, and this is great, but there is more they can do every day. Take at least 15 minutes twice a day to pray, meditate, have a cup of tea, be quiet while alone. You deserve at least that much time to yourself! German New Medicine Explained

German New Medicine is a form of talk therapy that directly releases the unconscious triggers (or tracks) that are initiated by unanticipated events; the events set into motion repetitive physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual disturbances that manifest in disease or psychosis. Matters Of The Heart
By Maurgana Stiastny When we grew up, we learned that the heart was a muscle and a pump that pumps 1,900 gallons of blood per day, 48 million in a lifetime! That is not bad for a 10 ounce pump. Then we heard stories of people’s lives changing after they received a heart transplant. For instance, there was a man who had a heart transplant and then fell in love. It turns out he fell in love with the widow of the man whose heart he had received. There are many curious stories just like that. The heart has long been considered the source of emotion and there is now scientiďŹ c evidence that demonstrates how the heart affects mental clarity, emotional balance and effectiveness. Neurophysicists have discovered that the heart is densely populated with the same type of neurons as the brain. There is a dynamic ongoing two-way dialogue between the heart and the brain, with each organ continually inuencing the function of the other. The heart is an organ of intelligence and simply knowing that can improve the quality of your life The language of the heart is love. Having intentional good feelings can work wonders. Have a “heart to heartâ€? with yourself. Focus on the actual physical location of your heart and think of something that brings you joy – a rainbow, your pet, your favorite music, getting a massage. That will create a coherence in the heart’s ďŹ eld that will help you bypass your habitual patterns of responding to stress. There have been many studies on positive and negative emotional states. But once I moved here, my experiences seemed to be the opposite of what I considered heart energy. There were times when I went through deep emotional roller coaster rides in regard to my ďŹ nances, partnerships, career and social contacts. I felt deep disappointment and was often on the edge of giving up. But, thanks to my Lomi Lomi and my Hawaiian teachers, I never did. In the Hawaiian card deck ‘Journey to the Kanaka Makua,’pu’uwai is the word for heart, pu’u meaning protruberance and wai meaning water. The heart is a place where a mass of water (feelings) ows, a place of unending supply and nurturing. The card suggests that we let go of resistance, recognize fears and take deep breaths over and over. I deďŹ nitely needed to do that many times to continue my life here. The universe of Maui showed me one place of resistance or fear after another that needed to be cleared and released. It was an ongoing process of transformation to become more uid and loving. Letting go of old rigid patterns, mindsets and paradigms took me to a new level of love. And the increase of deep self-love allowed me to receive and experience more love from others as well. It also deepened my love for humanity and the great joy to live here on my beloved Mother Maui! The Gift Of Kukui
By Maluhia Zorz One of the ďŹ rst lessons for a cultural practitioner to learn before gathering or entering into the forest is to chant/pule (pray), asking permission to enter the wahi (place) where one is gathering. I have spent many hours, many months gathering Kukui nuts for oil. In the days of old, hale were dim lamps and were called lama, meaning “light,â€? or kukui, after the tree which bears the nuts used for the oil burned in Hawaiian lamps. It takes hundreds of nuts just to extract one tablespoon of oil. Lamps were made in three different facets: KÄ lÄŤ kukui was the simplest, containing roasted kukui nuts skewered on dry coconut leaet midribs. Several of these were burned simultaneously because they shed weak light. Second was the pĹ?ho kukui, a hollowed stone that held the extracted oil and wicks of folded wauke cordage or kapa. And ďŹ nally, lama lamps (still used in some cultural ceremonies today) are made with ‘ohe (bamboo) ďŹ lled with the kukui nuts, which burn down one after another. This type of lamp produces a smoky light with a caution that the ‘ohe could ignite itself as well. The lighting from the lama is very useful when illuminating one’s path in the early morning hours. Kukui nut oil has been used by the early Hawaiians for generations to help soothe their skin from sunburn, wind and other natural elements. Mapping Human Design
By Beverly Bright The Human Design System is a synthesis of the modern day sciences of physics, genetics and biochemistry, and the esoteric systems of astrology, I-Ching, Kabala and chakras. These systems are woven together, producing charts for all things on earth. Through his intuition, the system was received and transcribed in its entirety by Robert Alan Krakower (a.k.a. Ra Uru Hu) in 1987. Working with accurate birth data, astrological charts are created by dividing the sky into 64 segments relating to the I-Ching, the Chinese Book of Changes (which describes 64 facets of the human experience) and the 64 codons of the human genetic code. Unlike astrology, which reads only the birth chart, Human Design uses two charts – one from the birth time relating to the soul’s innate nature, and a second snapshot taken three months before birth that relates to the genetic material inherited from our ancestors. From these calculations, the whole genetic makeup, both conscious (soul) and unconscious (ancestral), is registered in the hexagrams of the IChing, and charted onto a body graph synthesized from the Kabala’s Tree of Life and the chakra system. The Tree of Life is a mystical Judaism symbol of developmental pathways. It provides
the foundation for the 36 Human Design circuits – the ways in which energy travels between the nine chakras (energy centers) in the body graph. These nine centers express the unique energies of all individuals including mental, emotional, will, drive, health, manifestation, and identity. The 36 channels consist of 64 gates, or half channels, which correspond to the 64 hexagrams of the I-Ching. Information from the astrological calculations is colored into the corresponding gates in the body graph. The result is a ‘map’ of the genetic makeup of the person, and charts his or her unique energetic circuit board. According to this system, this ‘map’ describes the design that each person is here to live out in this lifetime, with speciďŹ c tools and instructions of operation. It is similar to learning about the car you are driving and how to optimize its performance while enjoying it for what it is designed to do. The result is you are given your own personal owner’s manual for how to most optimally use your human vehicle to ourish and succeed this lifetime. Discovering my personal Human Design changed my life. It gave me a deep acceptance of my true being and empowered me to leave an outdated career, stepping into my true soul path as a spiritual teacher and healer. It showed me how to appreciate how different we all are and helped me to drop my judgments of myself and others.

On the quantum level, we are nothing but conscious atoms in constant communication, so it seems that we can never be alone. Healing Our Core Wounds
By Jacyntha Kamor Taylor Our root chakra is the energy root of our earthly existence. This chakra (Hindu force center) is located in the depths of our consciousness and in the base of our pelvic area. The energy circulates for physical survival. The core wound that lives in the root chakra is rejection. The primary emotion is fear. The divine state of this chakra is trust in abundance. The rejection wound often gets confused with the abandonment wound, which is the core wound in the sacral chakra. The abandonment wound is an experience of absence, loss, and an emotional vacuum. The rejection wound is a feeling of being cut off and unloved by a presence that still exists. Rejection is an experience of being totally or partially shunned, unloved, disliked, pushed away, unaccepted, unsupported, unnourished and undernourished, and alienated from God, mother, father, siblings, friends, society, and/or the earth. The primary emotion of the rejection wound is fear. Fear causes contractions in our subtle energy body, eventually leading to emotional constriction, and then muscular contractions, and other survival responses. These create a deep experience of separation. Feeling separate is not the same as feeling unique. When we feel alienated, we will actually forego our uniqueness in a desperate attempt to belong, and therefore survive. There is a sacred paradox between our uniqueness and our inter-connectedness to the unity of the cosmos.When we heal the core wound of rejection, we begin to feel our unique selves woven into the loving fabric of the universe. We thrive in the abundance of tangible expressions of love specifically for our physical existence. Drumming For Health!
By Nancy Friedrich The drum and the rattle are humankind’s oldest musical instruments. Drumming has been used cross-culturally around the planet for healing and community ceremonies. Most indigenous people feel that the drumbeat imitates our heartbeat. The first drumbeat every human heard was from the womb: our mother’s heartbeat. Perhaps that is why it is such a primal sound. In Native American traditions, the drumbeat is considered mother earth’s heartbeat and drumming is used to call a sacred space, to honor the earth and connect to our sacred connection to life. There is an old saying, Great Spirit loved the drum so much he gave everyone a heartbeat. In The Four Fold Way studies, developed by anthropologist Angels Arrien, we learn that drumming a simple hand-held drum will soothe, heal and connect a person to his or her heart; it is medicine for the heart and any issue of the heart. Researchers now know that drumming facilitates the slowing down of brain waves into the easy meditative rhythm of the alpha brain wave. This facilitates a gentle shifting of our consciousness and concentration, helping us to get out of our head. In other words, the drum meditates you. People with no musical experience are benefiting from programs that bring people together with the knowledge that drumming in groups can reduce stress responses, improve self-esteem and even increase immunity. For this reason drumming is being utilized as a complementary tool to help improve immunity in cancer patients, to heal trauma for veterans, to assist teens with self esteem, even helping Alzheimer patients to focus their attention. Practice Expansive Breathing
By Heather Ardoin, MPT, CPI, RYT Your heart resides in the thoracic cavity, surrounded by a bony cylinder of the ribcage, the sternum in the front, and the spine in the back. There are ligaments between each pair of vertebrae in the spine, and ligaments that hold each rib onto its adjacent vertebrae. Your diaphragm muscle forms the floor of the thoracic cavity. In an ideal situation, the soft tissues supporting the bony cylinder remain flexible over a lifetime, so that it is able to expand freely with each breath. If it becomes stiff and rigid, like armor, the lungs can’t completely expand to receive a deep full breath. This shallow breath pattern can restrict movement in the ribs and connective tissue. Conscious work with the breath is one of the best ways to improve ribcage mobility, stretch connective tissue in the thoracic cavity, and open the heart space. When people are in pain, or feel threatened in any way, they usually go into a shallow breathing pattern. This shallow breathing pattern is part of the fight or flight response of the body. By practicing a slow expansive breath, you can work towards stretching out the thoracic cavity, and opening up your own heart space.
