Having lived in Rome for many years, I have a particular taste for coffee. So for me, the best one in Venice is the one served at Harry’s Bar. Arrigo, the legendary Arrigo Cipriani, owner and patron of Harry’s bar, knows how to do everything well. So also his coffee is of the highest quality. Shopping food & wine Caffè Avendo abitato per molti anni a Roma, in fatto di caffè sono molto esigente. Per me il più buono di Venezia è quello dell’Harry’s Bar. Arrigo, il mitico Arrigo Cipriani proprietario e patron dell’Harry’s Bar, sa fare tutto bene. Quindi anche il suo caffè è di altissima qualità.

Vicino al Mercato di Rialto è da sempre l’unica vera drogheria in città dove si può trovare qualsiasi spezia.

The artisans are returning to Venice, a symbol of the city’s quality and ancient history. There is Orsoni who makes and restores mosaics for museums and basilicas around the world. He will also make the mosaics – all made by hand in silver leaf and platinum bronze – for the domes of a small church which has been transformed into a private residence, and the one I am designing as interior designer. The work is carried out in collaboration with the Cicognani-Kalla studio of New York and for the architectural part, we are using the Gobbato-De Luca studio.

Stanno tornando gli artigiani a Venezia, testimoni di una vera qualità e di una storia ancestrale. Innanzitutto, Orsoni, che fa e restaura mosaici, servendo musei e basiliche in tutto il mondo. Eseguirà pure i mosaici - tutti realizzati a mano, in foglia argento e platino bronzo - per le cupole di una chiesetta trasformata in residenza privata che sto allestendo come interior designer. Un lavoro condotto in collaborazione con lo studio Cicognani-Kalla di New York e, per la parte architettonica, con lo Studio veneziano Gobbato-De Luca.

A bacaro is the typical Venetian bar where they serve snacks and sandwiches – the so-called cicheti – accompanied with a glass of wine. One I can highly recommend is La Vedova in Cananregio located in Strada Nuova near the Ca’ d ’Oro. Here everything is prepared on the spot, something that is quite rare in a bacaro. Restaurants

I have my favourite restaurant. It is run by an Apulian couple. I hope the Venetians don’t mind! If you go there saying, “I am a friend of Matteo Corvino and I want the “sòpa de scoasse” – in Venetian: garbage soup – you can be sure to eat one of the best but is served with slices of toasted bread; seasoned with garlic for those who love it. The Osteria Ca’ del Vento is located in a windy street that leads to the Zattere, almost on my doorstep. Bookshops

The Human Safety Net, the foundation created by Generali is transforming what used to be a shop selling glass objects in Piazza San Marco into a small bookshop of art. And I hope that by the end of the year, there will be again a proper bookshop of art in the heart of Venice.

Un bacaro, ovvero il locale tipico di Venezia dove si servono stuzzichini e tramezzini – i cosiddetti cicheti - accompagnati da vini al bicchiere, che mi sento di consigliare è La Vedova a Cananregio. Si trova in Strada Nuova vicino alla Ca’ d’Oro. Qui fanno tutto espresso, caratteristica ormai piuttosto rara tra i bacari. Ristoranti Ho un mio ristorante del cuore. È gestito da una coppia di origini pugliesi, non me ne vorranno i veneziani! Se ci vai dicendo “sono amico di Matteo Corvino e voglio la “sòpa de scoasse” - tradotto dal veneziano: zuppa di spazzatura - sarai certo di mangiare una delle migliori zuppe di pesce del mondo. Non è passata, come vuole la tradizione locale e si accompagna con fette di pane abbrustolito. Insaporite con aglio, per chi lo ama. L’Osteria Ca’ del Vento, in una calle ventosa che porta alla Zattere, è quasi sotto casa. Librerie

The Human Safety Net, la fondazione creata da Generali, sta trasformando quello che era un negozio di oggetti in vetro in piazza San Marco, in una piccola libreria d’arte. Finalmente, spero entro l’anno, nel cuore di Venezia tornerà una vera libreria dedicata all’arte.

The people who visit here are well-learned and curious about the true existence of the city, rather than just visiting the usual places”
