The great Italian pianist, composer and conductor Giovanni Allevi returns to Milan with his highly anticipated Piano Solo Tour. How many of us have feared that a breath, a breeze or a suddenly opened door would destroy what we’ve built with so much patience and care? We’re talking about houses of cards, veritable sculptures we’ve all tried to build, challenging our friends and rivals to make the highest. To avoid all this, Milan offers a house of cards that no one and nothing can ruin, destroy or topple. We’re free to interpret it as we wish, but we all recognise it as a healthy dose of eccentricity, creativity and imagination. To see it, we need to travel to the CityLife district, specifically the intersection of Viale Berengario and Via Benedetto Brin. It stands in front of Castello Pozzi, once the residence of Laurenzio Pozzi and now home to numerous exhibitions and private collec-
tions. This particular installation is the work of Rinaldo Denti, who currently owns the building in partnership with Elio Fiorucci and Missoni. It could be said that the intention behind the work is to celebrate the genius of Fiorucci, his brand and that of Missoni, while at the same time seeking to blend art and fashion in order to make them accessible to all.

Mudec - Museum of Cultures, designed by architect David Chipperfield, is an exhibition space that houses 7,000 pieces including artworks, textiles, and musical instruments from all continents.

Located in the vibrant heart of Milan, the Tortona neighbourhood is one of the most dynamic and culturally rich districts in the city. Originally an industrial area, Tortona has undergone an extraordinary transformation over the years, becoming a genuine hub for art and culture.
The former factories and warehouses have been converted into innovative spaces such as photographic studios, the showrooms of Armani, Fendi, Hogan and Moncler, the architecture studios of Paola Navone and Stefano Giovannoni, publishers, museums, the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation and the Armani Silos exhibition space.

The district hosts numerous cultural events, such as Design Week during the Salone del Mobile, attracting designers and enthusiasts from all over the world to explore the latest trends in the world of architecture. In addition to its vibrant cultural scene, Tortona also has a rich historical heritage. In the late March 2016, BASE Milano, a multipurpose space open to culture to promote innovation, ongoing learning and creativity, was started in the post-industrial area of the former Ansaldo factory on Via Tortona. This 12 thousand-square-meter space includes a project-house for co-working, a design hostel and artist residence, a bistro which is perfect for both working and studying, a courtyard bar on summer nights, in addition to boundless spaces for hosting events, parties, concerts and workshops. The events program is rich and varied, but one can stop every day simply for a drink or a quick lunch. The roofop terrace, full of plants and gazebos, was opened in June 2022, only in the evening for drinks. Housed in the same courtyard are the Laboratori della Scala, the

Scala Theater’s workrooms that introduce visitors to the backstage of the great theater shows and to the great names of Milanese crafsmanship and theater performances. They contain over 60,000 costumes, sceneries, sculptures and furniture that have been used for the great shows at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, whose stage for the
dress rehearsals is also reproduced at the former Ansaldo space. While the shows held at the Scala Theater are known all over the world, what happens behind the scenes is lesser known. The guided visit to the Laboratori, only on Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment, allows visitors to learn about the backstage activity, the techniques and secrets behind some of the world’s greatest classical music performances.
Milan’s Museum of Cultures (MUDEC), designed by David Chipperfield’s British firm, was inaugurated on the occasion of the 2015 Expo with a rich art collection which underlines the international and multicultural nature of Milan. The permanent collection includes objects donated to the museum by explorers, missionaries and art collectors: a journey across the world, from the Middle and Far East to Southern and Central America, from Western and Central Africa to South-East Asia, from Oceania and back to Via Tortona. The MUDEC houses also major temporary exhibitions.
On the museum’s third floor, Enrico Bartolini, the chef and owner of the highest number of Michelin-starred restaurants in Italy, carved out a space of
sophisticated contemporary elegance for himself. Awarded with three Michelin stars, his Milan-based restaurant never ceases to amaze his customers. Far from stopping to catch his breath, Bartolini keeps creating new dishes, always based on intense flavors. The dishes on the menu are a journey through the most sophisticated culinary cultures, from the tasting menu Mudec Experience to the many seasonal offerings and most original creations, a crossroads of flavors, worlds and traditions. It takes only a 4-minute walk along Via Savona to
step into the Premiata Gelateria Augusto. The icecream shop’s name and interior design evoke ancient Rome, because Stefano Garibaldi, the bold and young owner, believes in his aura of greatness. The key word for this year’s Salone del Mobile is “evolution”. A word that indicates the branch of science conceived by Charles Darwin, but also, and primarily, the ability common to different disciplinary fields to rethink themselves, make a series of adjustments, to adapt to the changing times without losing sight of tradition.
Among the main news announced for this 62nd Salone, in addition to the site specific installation by David Lynch, one of the world’s most respected filmmakers, is the continued association with architects Lombardini22,

Tentativo di Volo, marking the debut into the artworld and Ex_Sistere, as international engagement. Twelve
artists, carefully curated from the landscapes of Turkey and Italy; they were together for a cultural diversity and profound reflections on the complexities of human existence. Just afer, it was presented Spazio Hasita Incubator Lab, diving into the iridescent young talents. The essence of the Incubator Lab, lies in providing a platform for artists to have the means and the audience to explore their unique perspectives and emotional details. It is more than one hundred years old, but it doesn’t show it: the Monza Circuit continues to fascinate and be a desirable destination for fans of Formula 1 and much more. The seting, the shape of the track, the history that is inextricably linked to Italy, the Ferrari red and the motorsport tradition make the Monza Circuit unique worldwide.
The scenery changes, champions who seem unbeatable come and go until a new team or a new driver picks up the baton; but the circuit is always there, with its strip of asphalt grid set in the green of the Monza park, with its charm as the third oldest motor racing facility in the world, afer Indianapolis and Brooklands. Its litle less than six kilometres have seen all the greatest heroes of the steering wheel as well as millions of fans who flock to the track
and grandstands on race days, practice sessions, rallies and guided tours in the footsteps of champions.
The place of the big duels: Ascari-Fangio, Lauda-Hunt, Villeneuve-Arnoux, Senna-Prost, Schumacher-Hakkinen, Hamilton-Alonso, now Verstappen-Leclerc, with the Ferrari driver hoping to find the Prancing Horse in front again at next September’s round. There is no driver who has not admired the Monza Circuit for its peculiarities, starting with the famous parabolic curve that once led into the finishing straight.
Over the course of its 102 years, the circuit has obviously changed somewhat in form, but litle in terms of substance: the need to increase the safety of drivers and spectators, the technological development of the cars and the need to keep up with the times have required interventions that
have taken place as early as 1935, following some very serious accidents that even caused deaths among members of the public. Afer new layouts, the insertion of chicanes to limit speed and the replacement of the road surface, which used to be made of porphyry cubes that were very slippery in the rain, the current layout was arrived at. 118,865 seats, 5,793 metres, 11 bends and that unmistakable boomerang shape make Monza the most famous Formula 1 venue in the world, and also the fastest circuit, a record held by Silverstone before the modifications that reduced the cars’ acceleration capability. Lewis Hamilton’s average speed of 264.362 km/h in his Mercedes is the still unbeaten record, albeit not achieved during a race. Just like the record of 370.1 km/h set by Kimi Räikkönen in a McLaren in 2005 has stood for 19 years.

Monza, like any other motor-racing track, has also had its toll of deaths and misfortunes, an integral part of the thrill that goes hand in hand with any speed race. The list includes names of champions, from Ascari to Peterson, and lesser-known drivers, such as Materassi, von Trips, Arcangeli, Campari, Borzacchini, Czaykovski, Sivocci or the motorcyclists Pasolini and Saarinen, whose sacrifice led to one of the greatest works of renovation of the track.
There are epic races, national popular Ferrari triumphs, victories as favourites
and successes as outsiders: it is impossible to draw up a ranking of the most exciting editions, while there is a ranking of the most successful drivers. On the top step are two Formula 1 monuments: Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton, who have emerged victorious five times, but the German did so by having ten years go by between his first victory in 1996 and his fifh in 2006.
The last victory by an Italian driver was a long time ago: in 1966 a car-driver duo on the first step of the podium, with Ludovico Scarfioti taking his Ferrari 312 to the fi-
nish line ahead of all others. But the Monza Circuit isn’t just about engines: over the years its location in the park has also meant it could be used for other types of events. Staying on the topic of global successes, the 1989 Pink Floyd concert deserves a mention, with 60,000 music fans thronging the main grandstands, while in 2017 the lighter two-wheelers (bicycles) replaced the faster ones (motorbikes): the occasion was the last stage of the Giro d’Italia, which started at the circuit with a time trial lap to celebrate the 100th year of the corsa rosa.

Afer the first runway show in June 2021, which took place on the assembly line of the Maranello factory, subsequent collections have been presented during Milan Women’s Fashion Week, retaining the strong DNA that stood out in the initial collection, yet shifing increasingly towards contemporary elegance, impeccable tailoring and sophisticated crafsmanship. The SS 2024 collection focuses on the sublimation of desire, an all-powerful emotion that strips away frills to make room for a simplicity that verges on purity.

“What these clothes are celebrating is the durability and tension of this force that runs through us all, giving them new forms, new mystery and new destinations”.
Shapes shorten, lengthen and widen with curving lines, rounded sleeves, anatomical fits and exaggerated volumes. The brand’s stylistic codes - racing, workwear, tailoring - are filtered, condensed and amplified to place the body at centre stage, accentuating beauty and sensuality by means of essential shape, colour and substance. The palete presents a series of colour layerings in constant crescendo, starting with white and exploding into Ferrari red, which becomes identity and desire. The spirit permeating the entire Spring/Summer 2024 collection is embodied by top model Anja Rubik, who perfectly epitomises the new Ferrari aesthetic, presenting a cleancut and minimalist image.

It was originally a fortress built by Gian Galeazzo Visconti in the 15th century. One hundred years later, Francesco Sforza made it his noble residence afer taking possession of Milan. Ludovico Sforza founded one of the most sophisticated courts in Europe and called the best artists of the time to embellish the castle, including Leonardo da Vinci and Filarete. The imposing building today is a unique museum complex divided into the Civic Museums, which house permanent exhibitions and a rich program of temporary art shows and events. Designed by Giuseppe Mengoni, this shopping center’s foundation stone was laid in 1865 by Vitorio Emanuele II, hence its name. From its inception, the Galleria was a meeting place for the Milanese bourgeois, earning it the nickname Milan’s living room. It has a cross plan with an octagonal iron and glass roof, 47 metres high. The visitor’s gaze is drawn toward the floor mosaics, which represent the coats of arms of Rome, Flor-

Milan’s skyline was redrawn thanks to the Porta Nuova area, the city’s most contemporary neighbourhood and home to the Torre Unicredit, designed by Cesar Pelli, who was also behind the adjacent piazza Gae Aulenti, an open-air shopping mall. In October 2018, the Biblioteca degli Alberi Park was inaugurated, designed by the Dutch landscaper Petra Blaisse. Not too far away, Stefano Boeri’s award-winning residential buildings are atention-grabbing: the two innovative towers, known as the Vertical Forest, are standing side-byside almost entirely covered in vegetation.

Nestled in a large private garden with swimming pool and tennis court downtown Milan, Villa Necchi Campiglio was completed in 1935. It was designed by architect Piero Portaluppi for the Necchi Campiglio family, members of Milan’s wealthy and elegant upper middle class in the 1930s. In the second postwar period, the Villa was renovated by architect Tomaso Buzzi, who sofened Portaluppi’s linear style by adding 18th century-inspired, in particular, Louis XV-style furnishing elements.

The Fondazione Feltrinelli Porta Volta building is an urban cultural center designed by architects Jacques Herzog & Pierre de Meuron. In 1999, Lia Rumma opened her art gallery’s branch in Milan, in the Brera neighborhood, with the solo exhibition by Enrico Castellani. For ten years, the gallery hosted a number of site-specific projects completing the exhibitions held in Naples. In 2010, Lia Rumma started the current gallery conceived for Art and Artists. In 2019 Massimo De Carlo has acquired a new iconic building in the centre of Milan, which has become the epicentre of its activities. One of the most famous projects by Portaluppi. The spiral staircase on the exterior of the building, for example, had been used for the “Casa del Sabato per gli sposi”, shown at the Milan’s Triennale. Over the years, the gallery’s artists such as Maurizio Catelan, Rudolf Stingel, Piotr Uklański, Diego Perrone, Paola Pivi, Yan Pei-Ming, Kaari Upson, Andra Ursuta and Andrea Zitel have all gained international recognition, have been shown in galleries, museums

Established in 1885, the museum has been located in the 18th -century Palazzo Morrigia, designed in 1775 by Giuseppe Piermarini close to the vast Brera complex, since 1951. In 1900, the Palazzo- which during Napoleon’s age housed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and, later on, the Ministry of War- became the property of the De Marchi family and then donated to the City of Milan

There are many entrances with a recognisable appearance scattered throughout Milan, all designed by some of the most famous architects of the 20th century. But the most instagrammed? The entrance hall of Palazzo Ina by modernist architect Piero Bottoni, who also designed Monte Stella and Qt8. An atrium with Palladian Carrara marble flooring, while the walls are covered with powder pink and cobalt blue tiles: a perfect mix for Instagram.

Low-rise houses, pastel shades, small balconies and flower gardens. The houses in Via Lincoln, a former working-class district now known as the Rainbow district are all painted in different colours. The architecture of the museum offers a varied choice of views and panoramas to take a good photo. For example, the Upside Down Mushroom Room: a dreamlike installation by Carsten Höller that enriches the Atlas, the permanent collection of the Fondazione Prada, and attracts the curiosity of many visitors. But also the Bar Luce, designed by film director Wes Anderson: pastel tones, jukebox, pinball machines and a refined vintage atmosphere to feel like being in a film while sipping a cup of coffee.

This building is a great example of eclectic architecture. It was built by Giuseppe Pestagalli in the 1860s and features a Neo-Renaissance façade on the outside. If you stand in the middle of the courtyard open to the public and you look up, you will see how its structure frames a portion of the blue sky in a perfect octagon.

These are just three of the art installations found at Artline, the park in the shadow of the skyscrapers of the City Life district, that is enriched every year with new installations. A new life for the old headquarters of the army in Piazza delle Armi, that was used for military exercises until 1923.

Located along the Navigli, Vicolo dei Lavandai offers a picturesque view of the old Milan. You can see the stream, the canopy still supported by small wooden beams and the old lavoir. The people who came here in the past to wash their clothes were not women, but men, members of a trade association active in Milan since the 18th century.

A contemporary botanical garden located among the skyscrapers of Porta Nuova with paths that merge with each other forming geometrical patterns, circular forests and flower gardens. The Biblioteca degli Alberi is one of the most representative parks of the new Milan, greener and more sustainable, where you can spend time among nature and attend artistic and cultural events.
The green skyscraper overlooks the BAM - Biblioteca degli Alberi between the districts of Porta Nuova and Isola. It is one of the first examples of a building with a new style architecture based on biodiversity, which pays attention to the relationship between man and other living species. The façade changes its appearance every season: full of flowers in spring, bright green in summer, and with the warm colours of the foliage in autumn.

The bicycle is a green and convenient way of geting around in the city. Bike Sharing is available, either from fixed collection and drop-off stations, or with free-flow bikes. The BikeMi service operated by ATM and the Municipali-
ty of Milan allows visitors to hire bikes through its website and app. Meanwhile, electric scooters can be hired from Voi, Wind, Bit, Lime, Dot, Helbiz and Tier. We advise checking websites for the rules you must follow.
In Milan there are more than a hundred bus routes and 4 trolleybus lines, making this one of the best ways of geting
around the city. On Fridays and Saturdays, Milan’s night buses run every hour between 2 am and 5 am. Tickets for the bus (and other public transport) can be bought at metro stations, newspaper kiosks, tobacconists’ and from the ATM Milano app.
A standard ticket is valid for 90 minutes and covers one journey on ATM public transport; it costs €1.50. You can also choose a daily ticket (€7), a three-day ticket (€12) and other options.
With five lines, 111 stations and 94.5 kilometres of rails, Milan’s metro system is the largest in Italy. It operates every day from 6:00 to 00:30 (7:00 to 19:30 on 25 December and 1 May). The frequency of trains at major stations varies from 2 to 4 minutes, depending on the month and the timetable.
Milano Centrale station is the main hub connecting Milan to major Italian and European cities, and Cadorna station offers links to destinations in Lombardy. Other state-run railway stations are Garibaldi, Lambrate, Milano Rogoredo and Porta Genova. The
main overland stations correspond with the metro lines, making travel in the area easy and quick.
Milan Malpensa international (Code IATA: MXP) is the largest of the city’s airports. It is 49 kilometres north-west of the Lombardy capital, with connections by Malpensa Express train or numerous shutle bus services.
