There are many reasons to love the Golf Club Cortina d’Ampezzo: nine holes with a view of the Dolomites, top-quality facilities and - starting from last summer - even a champion as an instructor. After spending the last twenty years around the world, professional golfer Giulia Sergas has settled here, ready to pass on her experience to both expert and novice players. Her list of achievements is impressive: as an amateur, she won two medals at the World Championship and ranked the European individual event, she became a professional and joined the European and American tours. She enrolled at the University of California in Los Giulia Sergas Angeles on a sports scholarship, and this opened a whole new world for her: golf is one of the most popular sports in the United States with a large ticipated in 41 major championships – important tournaments at the same level of Wimbledon and Roland Garros in tennis – 8 times in the top 10. In the Dolomites, she discovered the local golf course designed by famous designer Peter Harradine and architect Silvio Bernardi from Ampezzo. Il suo curriculum è impressionante: da dilettante vince due medaglie ai Campionati del mondo e il titolo europeo individuale, diventa professionista ed entra nel circuito europeo e in quello americano. Frequenta l’Università della California di Los Angeles per meriti sportivi, e scopre un nuovo mondo: negli Stati Uniti il golf è considerato uno degli sport più tecipa a 41 major championship - i grandi tornei, come Wimbledon e Roland Garros nel tennis - e raggiuge 8 top ten. rienced players really like it. “It has a strong character”, Giulia says. “It does not offer many opportunities for long shots but can reward those who know how to manage the ball and take advantage of its qualities. In the mountains, the golf course has to adapt to the landscape, and not the opposite. The layout develops within the woods, and the fairway is scattered with actual boulders: these are too large to be moved and are now an integral part of the picture. At the same time, it is one of the most well-kept golf courses I have seen in Italy. The grass is of the highest quality and the vegetation is kept perfectly. You notice these things. And then we have the amazing panorama: golf, if you put aside the competition, is basically a stroll among nature. Playing can be much more pleasant in a place like Cortina: you only need to look up to admire the Cinque Torri and the Tofane group.” Another place which is also very popular is the Club House, owned by the centuries-old Regole d’Ampezzo collective group. Last summer, Giulia Sergas along with Andrea Signor, the director of the Golf Club Cortina d’Ampezzo contributed to the creation of a calendar of events that offered opportunities for fun and relaxation outside the competitions such as the aperigolf, an aperitif party for amateurs held every Thursday: it is a way to involve everyone in the activities of the club, inviting those who live here or who have just come on holiday to discover a new passion and share a special moment of sociality. Giulia is also about to launch a online Golf coaching platform in Italy. And the background in her video lessons - with many useful technical tips on how to improve your swing - will be, of course, Cortina. “Ha una forte personalità” racconta la campionessa. “Non offre tiri lunghi ma premia chi sa gestire la palla e sfruttare le sue caratteristiche. In montagna è il campo ad adattarsi al territorio, non il contrario. Il disegno è stato creato all’interno del bosco, e nel fairway si incontrano veri e propri massi: troppo grandi per essere spostati, fanno parte integrante del quadro. Al tempo stesso, è uno dei campi più curati che abbia visto in Italia. L’erba è perfetta, il sottobosco tenuto benissimo. Dettagli che si notano. E poi abbiamo un panorama unico: il golf, al di là dell’aspetto agonistico, è essenzialmente una passeggiata nel verde. In un luogo come Cortina giocare diventa molto più appagante: basta alzare lo sguardo per ammirare le Cinque Torri e le Tofane.” Molto apprezzata anche la Club House, di proprietà delle millenarie Regole d’Ampezzo. La scorsa estate, insieme al direttore del Golf Club Cortina d’Ampezzo Andrea Signor, Giulia Sergas ha contribuito alla creazione di un calendario di appuntamenti a scopo non solo agonistico, come l’aperigolf per i dilettanti, tutti i giovedì: un modo per aprire le porte del circolo alla comunità, invitando chi vive qui o viene in vacanza a scoprire una nuova passione e condividere un prezioso momento di socialità. La campionessa si prepara inoltre a lanciare un nuovo pro-
